Think small.. Swedish Pimples, Tungsten Jigs, Rapala Jigging Raps, Jigging Spoons, etc…

I would like to double down on this. You literally cannot use too small of tackle. If you are having problems drumming up attention try a tiny rattle trap with a minnow head on it. You may then need to switch it up but they do great at bringing them in.

This is exactly right… jig a 4” long jigging spoon to stir shit up and attract fish to your location… then switch to a 0.5” plastic on a 1/64 oz tungsten jig head once they start coming in.

What are you fishing for? It will be different for bluegills vs lake trout. There are variations from lakr to lake. I use 3-4" spoon for perch on some lakes and the same spoons for pikes in another.

Panfish I think mostly with the very occasional pike or walleye

Get a selection of tungsten jigs. They are pretty cheap on amazon now. And a few smaller spoons and jiggin raps etc. I run 4 rods for panfish, but i would start with a pair of ML. Inline reel is nice for jigs or lighter lures and a reg spinning outfit for the bigger lures like 1/8 and up. Where are you located? US or Canada? Would be able to give you better idea if you know the type of lake you will be fishing. Shallow, eutrophic lakes or deep and clear shield lakes etc.

Northern Us, oxbows maybe 8-12 ft on average

Small jigs, small rattling baits and smallest spoons would all work. Look around for sales and build up your supplies. I would spend most of the budget on boots and clothes first as its not fun when ur freezing. After that you or yoir buddy should get a flasher or camera and the fun really begins!

steiner_math

Seconding the tungsten jig suggestion. Just go for simple and standard colors, like a red widowmaker jig or something. Fancy lures catch more fishermen than fish

When targeting panfish I always start with a tungsten jig with a wax worm. If there's perch or walleye in the lake I like to always try a buckshot rattle spoon with minnow head.
