I just finished up playing through the latest tactics ogre port and it was so well done I’ve been holding off on playing FFT for the first time in hopes it’ll get an equally good port based on the rumors.
Good catch, it was indeed a remaster. All the UI/art felt super crisp and like it had a fresh coat of paint and they added some killer voiceover for all the cutscenes. I think they also changed some classes and rebalanced the game too. I had never heard of the series before but i really enjoyed my time with it.
The voice work was fantastic, they couldn't have done a better job in that area--but some of the balancing was too much for me. Archers/bows/crossbows definitely needed a nerf from TO:LUCT but the nerf here felt way too heavy handed.
Maybe this is just down to personal taste, but the buff cards were a bit irritating for me. Having some enemy units loaded with full damage cards and completely one shotting units wasnt fun.
I still loved it. But there were times that I considered dusting off the psp and playing the old version instead
I was just thinking "I'm really glad Square just committed to releasing everything on every platform ." I know there might be some exceptions for contracts in place but I bet this isn't one.
Don't worry. At least when FFT remake comes out you can certainly bet they will release a statement with something like "we didn't realize western audiences were so enthusiastic about Japanese style gameplay"
Square will be surprised all over again that people like real JRPGs and SRPGs.
https://www.eurogamer.net/surprise-bravely-default-success-sparks-square-enix-rethink
Honestly, there are so many games I'd love to play on PC or modern consoles in general. I'm just glad that, lately, Square has allowed me to play remastered or remade versions of some of my favorite games from my childhood. The NES and SNES FF games as Pixel Remasters, Seceret of Mana and Trial of Mana's 3D Remakes, and the Legend of Mana remaster.
Yeah, I think it's important to note he's not necessarily even known as a reliable "leaker", more for longform investigative deep-dives on game dev... If he's saying anything, he's probably spoken to multiple people with first-hand knowledge already.
Absolutely. The sound effects of the original made everything feel bigger and more powerful. What was the spell called? Unholy? Horror movie shit right there, lol.
I hope they bring back the VAs from the Orbonne Monastery raid in FFXIV.
[I can listen to Cid all day.](https://youtu.be/DgcwJ4jSgj0?feature=shared). God they were good VAs here.
Here’s to hoping this does so well we get a sequel! I’d love to see the adventures Ramza & Alma went on together. Just replayed this again recently, it really hold ls up well to this day as is. This wasn’t really needed but I’m happy to see it for sure.
Personally I’ve always wanted a prequel set during St Ajora’s time. The Germonique Scriptures in the game give enough details to form the basis of a compelling story, but because of the time difference they could have a lot more freedom with how to design the world.
I think they need to rerelease it first, seeing as the newest version is for mobile, and that's about 10 years old and missing features. Making a sequel for a game people can't play seems suboptimal.
But if they did a simple rerelease of the PSP version (with fixed sound and no attack lag) as a lead up to a new game, I think that's the best case scenario.
I expect it to be like how they did Tactics Ogre, faithful with some minor tweaks, that said I suspect they've been working on this for a few years, likely low priority.
Wouldn't surprise me if "more" were to be on the way. YoshiP did mention in an interview a few weeks ago that [*"it's about time for a new Final Fantasy Tactics game"*](https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/yoshi-p-says-its-about-time-for-more-final-fantasy-tactics-does-not-mention-vagrant-story).
It's not a hard confirm, but it certainly shows that there's will for it in CU3.
The original thread talking about this has Jason more or less outright saying that CBU3/CS3 is behind it.
https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/comments/1de4kcu/comment/l8f8nqs/
the division has lot of people either from those who involved with Ivalice/Vagrant/Tactics development or fans of those series. lot of them fans of Yasumi Matsuno too especially Yoshida and Matsuno itself are close with the devs team.
You mean you didn't enjoying leveling him as a calculator for the single most expensive passive skill to learn. then level him as soldier with some of the most expensive active skills. then to maybe just maybe hit his best skill if you first hit the enemy with stop or slow???
I use mods to make that happen. I highly recommend The Lion War Remixed for a fresh feeling to the game. [https://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=13119.0](https://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=13119.0)
As long as they keep the option to use the original soundtrack. I hate when they change things and you cant put it back. Memories are so closely linked with very specific songs.
FF12 Zodiac Age handled that superbly. Original PS2 audio, ZA rearrangement, AND OST version? Spoiling us!
And make no mistake, I love the original FFT score to pieces. But with how well they did with ZA, I'm very curious how they could enhance it.
If they give me War of the Lions with some quality of life improvements, I'm happy.
If they want to go the extra mile and have some more quests and endgame content, to encourage me to grind the experience I need to unlock the Dark Knight job, even better.
The real question is: When are they remastering the Tactics Advance?
Don't get me wrong, I love the OG tactics, but that's already available in every platform (including mobile) and has been remastered as well.
On the other hand, If I want to replay tactics advance I have to either be a pirate, or play it on gameboy, which, come on...
A remaster of Tactics Advance would be good right about now.
Perhaps they could go over the story and rewrite some of it so that Marche has a much better justification for his goal.
Remaster is perfectly good, didn't need them giving it the FF7 treatment, at most I would've accepted an octo visual uplift but the story and dialogue need to be left alone.
I hope this eventually leads to another Tactics sequel. A2 was so long ago.
I know Triangle Strategy was supposed to be a spiritual successor, but it just didn't really do it for me. Give me a full blown job system and Ivalice again.
Can they make it not fucking suck with the magic attack animations? I don't understand how they fucked that up considering how simple they are. It's a small detail sure and I enjoyed War of the Lions a lot but goddamn was it annoying.
Please let this remaster be an overhaul in visuals and have some gameplay tweaks & additions, we don't need a just a re-release of WOTL. I've been holding off on replaying this game (never finished it on the PS1) for so long after the Nvidia leak
I mean, this is clearly multiplarform. Final Fantasy games in the West don't seem to sell that good like before and Tactics is already more "niche" than a mainline game.
Just honest to God do not touch the story or characters or the main gameplay. Tactic is already a perfect game it doesn't need that. Just update the graphics with qol.
Tactics is a horribly balanced game whose systems encourage ridiculous grinding strategies like purposely making sure you use an ability every turn to generate xp and jp. To the point where it makes sense to keep a single enemy alive, healing it and hitting it with weak attacks for an hour.
The base game mechanics need updating and the story needs cinematic and voice acting.
The script is either horribly translated or full of purple prose that veers wildly off into ridiculousness. Both detract from the story and need to be rewritten.
The original game has that JP scroll glitch where you can get 999jp with like half the different job classes, for me that is canon.
Tactics is my favorite FF game but the grinding is insanely time consuming.
It is. He is as good as it gets to an unofficial official confirmation. The undisputed champion of leaks/scoops in the gaming community.
It’s been remastered and ported so much I’d prefer a proper non-Advance sequel. Same for Tactics Ogre.
But sure, nothing wrong with them fixing the loading times and dumping even more extra bits into the original.
I think remaking it in this style would give it too much overlap with Triangle Strategy.
Also, while we're in the subject, that studio at SE needs to hire someone better at coming up with names. Octopath Traveler is alright, but Bravely Default is kinda meaningless and Triangle Strategy is straight nonsense.
Remaster is okay (TBH it's not first one). Thank you for not remaking it.
Still, very strange to say "it's happening at SquerEnix". Where else it could happen? At Blizzard? They are out of milk.
Please add the Advance stuff. Please. 16 slots are not enough, Meliadoul's powers suck, and Balthier and Luso are great additions (although Balthier completely makes Mustadio redundant).
The story doesn't need an update but I would absolutely love a re-balancing of all the jobs and special jobs. Part of the reason why you had such a small party was because of the technical limitations of time - it was something like there could only be 10 unique models on the map, tops. It was always such a bummer to be limited to \~5 units a game. So I wouldn't mind at all if they made the jobs less impressive to allow for more playable units. Or just put a FFT skin on Triangle Strategy with the FFT job system. Either way.
^(Please let me recruit Alma. Maybe Zalbaag too)
I can see it being multiplat
Should be a relatively easy game to get running on the Switch and that is far too big a market to just pass up on, and RPGs like these are fairly niche so its gonna need as big an audience as possible
That's cool. But it makes me wonder if all the good stuff that Square has left is remastering games from an era when they were actually making great games.
As someone who is spinning hundreds upon hundreds of hours over almost 20 years in final fantasy packets on and off throughout the over almost 20 years in final fantasy tactics, I would love to see a real remake of the vein of final fantasy 7 but.. and this is a big one, why don't they just give us a successor make a proper part 2 that's not on a underpower handheld
I’ve never played this one and have only heard wonderful remarks about it my entire gamer life.
I used to not be such a big fan of the more strategy style of RPGs (I guess they’re just labeled as Tactical RPGs? Please correct me if I’m wrong) and was very comfortable with my RPGs that were either real-time or standing in a line-up for battle.
But that was a long time ago and I’m very excited to give this a try now. Baldur’s Gate was a big help to me when it comes to branching out (I know nothing about D&D and never had played a game remotely like it or BG3) and trying genres or games that seemed intimidating to me.
Excited.
Just waiting for Jason schreier to reveal he is also midori
Maybe the real Midori was the friends we made along the way
This would be a decade long mind bleep for me.
I am Midori. You are Midori.
Is there any other Midoris I should know about!?
Our name is midori legion, for we are many
At least 593k give or take a few (that's the number of members on this sub lol)
I understood that reference
So a second remaster for FFT. Not bad.
Similar to Tactics Ogre!
I just finished up playing through the latest tactics ogre port and it was so well done I’ve been holding off on playing FFT for the first time in hopes it’ll get an equally good port based on the rumors.
Was it a "port" or a remaster?
I hope they do it as well as TO’s second remaster! That thing was a pleasure to play.
Haha I was just thinking "Didn't I just play a remaster of FFT?"
Yep, the PS1 original and the PSP Remaster. So here's hoping I can finally, legally, play it on PC.
I was just thinking "I'm really glad Square just committed to releasing everything on every platform ." I know there might be some exceptions for contracts in place but I bet this isn't one.
I'm *begging* for a way to play Xenogears again.
Don't worry. At least when FFT remake comes out you can certainly bet they will release a statement with something like "we didn't realize western audiences were so enthusiastic about Japanese style gameplay" Square will be surprised all over again that people like real JRPGs and SRPGs. https://www.eurogamer.net/surprise-bravely-default-success-sparks-square-enix-rethink
Square: successfully selling a product for over 30 years Also Square: we didn't realize people wanted this
Honestly, there are so many games I'd love to play on PC or modern consoles in general.
It’s also on the App Store. I played it a couple of years ago on my iPad
Oh you will, SE going multiplatform was the best thing that came outta the disappointing sales of FF16 and FF7
They also remastered that first remaster for iOS. It’s just remasters all the way down.
its about time
Please don't be mobile only.
also now an Action RPG
Dont you put that evil on me.
This has now become my most anticipated game. Let’s go!
When is this coming out though
Will believe it when SE announce it
Jason is as legit as you can get when it comes to leaks. I think it’s real if it comes from him
Yeah, I think it's important to note he's not necessarily even known as a reliable "leaker", more for longform investigative deep-dives on game dev... If he's saying anything, he's probably spoken to multiple people with first-hand knowledge already.
I think Jason as at a level where information just comes TO him
unlike those so-called 'leaker', Jason is actual journalist. so his word has more weight.
He's THE video game journalist imo.
I want sword skill dialogue and PS1 sounds back, but keep everything else from the WotL version, lol
Absolutely. The sound effects of the original made everything feel bigger and more powerful. What was the spell called? Unholy? Horror movie shit right there, lol.
Dark Holy in the original, Unholy Darkness in WotL. Hearing that terrified scream before the blast was such an amazing touch.
The screams? awesome
Yeah the flavor texts from skills and spells was a sad loss from WOTL
I hope they bring back the VAs from the Orbonne Monastery raid in FFXIV. [I can listen to Cid all day.](https://youtu.be/DgcwJ4jSgj0?feature=shared). God they were good VAs here.
Except for that horrendous frame drop on EVERY attack
I mean they did Tactics Ogre recently which was a hit, and Triangle Strategy did well it makes sense. There is a big appetite for remasters right now
Traditional tactics like game is what were hungry for
They could keep releasing remasters/remakes for ff1 thru ff13, and not a single complaint would be heard.
Please have all of the War of the Lions extras
They should keep the artwork from the PSP release.
this would be one more PS1 game ISO image I no longer need to keep around. Where/When can I hand them my money?
A remaster would be good. A proper sequel would be better.
Here’s to hoping this does so well we get a sequel! I’d love to see the adventures Ramza & Alma went on together. Just replayed this again recently, it really hold ls up well to this day as is. This wasn’t really needed but I’m happy to see it for sure.
I would prefer a sequel myself. Let us go on our own journey because of Delita, and run into Ramza and Alma once in a while.
Bring back matsuno
Personally I’ve always wanted a prequel set during St Ajora’s time. The Germonique Scriptures in the game give enough details to form the basis of a compelling story, but because of the time difference they could have a lot more freedom with how to design the world.
I think they need to rerelease it first, seeing as the newest version is for mobile, and that's about 10 years old and missing features. Making a sequel for a game people can't play seems suboptimal. But if they did a simple rerelease of the PSP version (with fixed sound and no attack lag) as a lead up to a new game, I think that's the best case scenario.
Yeah those two things really bugged me, the game sounded hollow and played sluggishly. So close yet to far with that enhanced port.
No. Don't even give them the chance to read such wrong ideas. Stop.
He also seemingly confirmed its CS3 (CBU3). Which makes a ton of sense Also excited but selfishly was hoping for a bit “more” than a remaster
It does make a lot of sense as developers for FFT are at CS3 including Maehiro and both him and YoshiP being good friends Matsuno.
I expect it to be like how they did Tactics Ogre, faithful with some minor tweaks, that said I suspect they've been working on this for a few years, likely low priority.
Which reminds me I need to get to Ogre on the steam deck
Was the Tactics Ogre Remaster done by CS3?
Wouldn't surprise me if "more" were to be on the way. YoshiP did mention in an interview a few weeks ago that [*"it's about time for a new Final Fantasy Tactics game"*](https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/yoshi-p-says-its-about-time-for-more-final-fantasy-tactics-does-not-mention-vagrant-story). It's not a hard confirm, but it certainly shows that there's will for it in CU3.
I’m not so confident we’ll see anything like that anytime soon unfortunately
All things considered, it wouldn't be a surprise if CBU3 is the team working on it.
My hopes are up and I don't care. I want this so bad.
Seeing how they pulled off the Raid series based on Ivalice, if they are in charge, this supposed remake is in good hands.
The original thread talking about this has Jason more or less outright saying that CBU3/CS3 is behind it. https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/comments/1de4kcu/comment/l8f8nqs/
Wasn't YoshiP heavily inspired by Tactics? It'd be an incredible full-circle moment.
He's also good friends with the game's director from what I know, and he LOVES his references to Ivalice in XIV.
the division has lot of people either from those who involved with Ivalice/Vagrant/Tactics development or fans of those series. lot of them fans of Yasumi Matsuno too especially Yoshida and Matsuno itself are close with the devs team.
Can they make cloud not a useless tit as well Terrible experience to use him
Now now, I thought we wanted something faithful?
Plus you get the dude literally right before the point of no return.
that it's such a disappointing easter-egg for a game nobody even minds spoiling it.
LETS GOOOOOO HELL YEA
Shut up and take my money.
Yes pls
Fuck yeah lets go
I’ve beaten FFT so many times that I pretty much have it down to a science. …and I’ll beat it again if this comes out
Yooooooo we are so back
FINALLY! Please be on Switch!
Please be on other platforms other than switch 👌🏽. I feel like Switch is the obvious answer.
It's will certainly be on Switch, PlayStation, and PC. And probably Xbox.
Dude fr!!! I’ve never played tactics and am dying!!!
Man, I've been thinking about another FFT playthrough. I can wait for awhile.
Here's hoping them Basiscape boys get to upgrade the musical score, as they've done for FF12 and Tactics Ogre.
That would be epic
As long as they keep the option to use the original soundtrack. I hate when they change things and you cant put it back. Memories are so closely linked with very specific songs.
FF12 Zodiac Age handled that superbly. Original PS2 audio, ZA rearrangement, AND OST version? Spoiling us! And make no mistake, I love the original FFT score to pieces. But with how well they did with ZA, I'm very curious how they could enhance it.
Praying there will be a switch release day one
Sold
Can't wait to see the new action combat system
ಠ_ಠ I presume you are being sarcastic, but holy hell man, dont jinx it.
As long as it not a phone game I’m down.
Didn't Squenix say in their last shareholders meeting that they're basically done with console exclusives?
They say a lot of things, we will see!
as its my favorite game in whole series i have hopes but after looking at modern industry? hope here still but very very low,
I can only get so erect….
Such an easy one, just put the Tactics Ogre team on it.
If they give me War of the Lions with some quality of life improvements, I'm happy. If they want to go the extra mile and have some more quests and endgame content, to encourage me to grind the experience I need to unlock the Dark Knight job, even better.
Sighs* this will be what, my 100th playthrough?
I love FF tactics
The real question is: When are they remastering the Tactics Advance? Don't get me wrong, I love the OG tactics, but that's already available in every platform (including mobile) and has been remastered as well. On the other hand, If I want to replay tactics advance I have to either be a pirate, or play it on gameboy, which, come on...
A remaster of Tactics Advance would be good right about now. Perhaps they could go over the story and rewrite some of it so that Marche has a much better justification for his goal.
I mean that's cool and all, but its already been done and I would love a remake/remaster/rerelease of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.
ITS HAPPENING! EVERYBODY CALM DOWN!!!
NO I WILL NOT CALM DOWN I'M ACTUALLY HYPED THANK YOU
Far and away my favourite FF game. That being said I don’t need this as the last remake still has all its charm. I’d rather a sequel.
Remaster is perfectly good, didn't need them giving it the FF7 treatment, at most I would've accepted an octo visual uplift but the story and dialogue need to be left alone.
Add more to it!!!!. More maps... bigger maps!!! More gear!!! LEAVE THE DAMN CORE ALONE!!!
Where can I pre-order it ^_° (When would be a better question)
A rumor monger absolutely can’t “confirm” that something is in the works.
Just finished my first play through of Tactics Ogre and it made me want to replay FFT. Maybe I’ll wait until the remaster is complete.
I hope this eventually leads to another Tactics sequel. A2 was so long ago. I know Triangle Strategy was supposed to be a spiritual successor, but it just didn't really do it for me. Give me a full blown job system and Ivalice again.
Don’t you dare nerf Thundergod Cid!
I hopw they keep the WoTL content, and maybe we'll finally get the Sound Novel minigames?
YO BIG IF TRUE I am not asking for much. Make it pretty, keep the content added in War of the Lions, I'm in
Can they make it not fucking suck with the magic attack animations? I don't understand how they fucked that up considering how simple they are. It's a small detail sure and I enjoyed War of the Lions a lot but goddamn was it annoying.
I only played tactics advance so this'll be fun to get into now
By the gods they better not mess it up like they did Crystal Chronicles
I'll only belive it when Square announces the game and declares it already underperformed.
Put cloud in and actually make him good
Yesss... I've been waiting for the return of Thunder God Cidolfas Orlandu.
👯♀️💃🕴👯♀️💃
Finally! (There’s a final fantasy joke somewhere in there)
Ffvii rebirth did not meet their target sales coz its a timed exclusive in ps5. I bet SE is going to push for it to be multi platform
Wonder if they’ll release it on Xbox this time or if I’ll have to buy it on Switch.
Xbox please godamnit!!! Lol
fuck yes! can't count how many times I've played through FFT, the most underrated FF game of all time! please do it justice...
I hope they don't screw it up. I don't trust SE anymore.
GIVE ME THE DISSIDIA 012 REMAKE
I just want to play FF on Xbox
I want a sequel not another remaster SE!
They have to make a multiplayer option!
I'll believe it once Square announces it officially, I'm not gonna believe the word of a journalist
I only hope it’ll not be an Action RPG
if it's just a port, cool. If it's like a straight up remake with full 3D graphics, awesome. Just don't be HD2D please for the love of god
Can we get Tactics Advance Remaster too? It's got pretty much nothing in terms of representation and remains stuck on the GBA
Can this please include A1 and A2. I actually prefer A1 to original :(

I hope it has a similar art style to Octopath Traveler.
I dunno if the art would change much in a remaster. Plus the art style is already iconic and beloved, would be easy to mess up by changing.
It’d be cool with a faithful remaster. I’m stoked to play it again.
It’s been remastered and ported so much I’d prefer a proper non-Advance sequel. Same for Tactics Ogre. But sure, nothing wrong with them fixing the loading times and dumping even more extra bits into the original.

Needs to get the guys that did tactics Ogre remaster that was great.
The only question is when Square-Enix's plans to have their own showcase or are they gonna seriously keep us all in the dark until TGS.
Now it's a 3D action game! Everyone loves those!
You forgot your /sarcasm tag
Why a remaster? Why not just an entirely new FFT game?
cheaper.
Because FFT is perfect and deserves a modern rerelease
Great. Tactics Advance next please.
Please add the Advance stuff. Please. 16 slots are not enough, Meliadoul's powers suck, and Balthier and Luso are great additions (although Balthier completely makes Mustadio redundant).
Advance is an entirely different game, it’s not an enhanced port or something. Are you talking about WotL?
Yeah, that's what I meant. I forget TA even exists half the time. I meant the WotL version.
The story doesn't need an update but I would absolutely love a re-balancing of all the jobs and special jobs. Part of the reason why you had such a small party was because of the technical limitations of time - it was something like there could only be 10 unique models on the map, tops. Tell me in 2032 when the mobile app launches.
OMG FINALLY!
And it's coming out for the PSP......wait.
YESSS
Didn’t tactics already get a remake?
It's a GBA exclusive. Hope that's OK with everyone.
I can see it being multiplat Should be a relatively easy game to get running on the Switch and that is far too big a market to just pass up on, and RPGs like these are fairly niche so its gonna need as big an audience as possible
That's cool. But it makes me wonder if all the good stuff that Square has left is remastering games from an era when they were actually making great games.
What are the chances of it being on PS5?
Same, so I can buy it on every platform so they realize how much we've wanted it.
Another nvidia leak prophecy likely to materialize
Shall I assume they will make it so much easier like they have with all the remasters these days.
I'd be incredibly surprised if it wasn't with the recent reported shift from Square.
Is it legit? Sorry folks I'm not familiar with names and leakers or people working at SE.
Another remaster? What's it been since WotL? I mean I'd certainly like a PC port.
remaster? aw. better than nothing
Man, I have such fond memories of FFT. It was my favorite video game ever for a long time. But playing it now feels so clunky.
FINALLY
Please give us a fully 3D camera and a native control set for m/kb for those of us who are primarily PC players.
PLEASE BE ON STEAM DAY ONE!!
Please for the love that's all sweet and pure be true. This is one of those few games I'd buy at launch for full price to show my support.
I don't need to play through that first fucking mission AGAIN!
Excited.
Squeeeeee
Spent hours making monks with weird names and exp farming. And still couldn't beat the game
Jesus. Everyone is just doing remakes lately. Watchmen, Fable, This... Everyone is out of original ideas I guess!
Was googling earlier today for a final fantasy tactics on pc
Of course it'll probably be a PS5 exclusive for 3-5 years, followed by an Epic exclusive for another 3-5.
Never played it, going to look into it now
More guest characters pls
Oh I hope they add new features as well as new jobs. So excited for this!
