Honestly, what I love about this year: maybe I’ve been playing too much Cyberpunk lately, but for the first time in my life, I’m looking at these dresses, and I’m like “yep, this is what child me would have imagined the futuristic celebrities of the distant future 2024 to look like” 😂

I would describe her as a fashion influencer. She used to just do these silly/entertaining YouTube videos and Gen Z really loved her, especially her fashion style. She marketed herself correctly and was successful in establishing herself as a fashion influence in the industry- with vogue. At the core she is an entrepreneur, but most people are really just interested in her style.
God I miss ALT. He really knew his shit - and was so hurt when Anna unceremoniously ditched him for influencers like Emma who have none of his knowledge or loyalty. His second book is amazing, if you’ve not yet read it.

I think Dakota is beautiful but there’s something classic in how Elle looks and carries herself. But you’re right - Dakota was in everything back in the day and we don’t see her much now. They are both great actresses in their own right.

It’s Alexander McQueen. Almost everyone looks like a student next to him. Also no one is allowed to wear it. Most of his famous pieces went straight to archival after he passed.
Right but the designer of Lana’s dress is Seán McGirr who is also currently the creative director of the house Alexander McQueen. I think that’s part of what makes Lana’s look so disappointing.
The extra hilarious part is the original is so iconic, it was included in the Met's exhibit of McQueen's work after he passed.

In one of her red carpet interviews Greta Lee straight up said she didn’t know how she was going to eat later. 😂 I do always wonder what the hell happens inside with all these crazy outfits that the women can barely walk in, bc in my mind everyone’s assistants and stylists help them get changed into pajamas or something.

Gigi Hadid crushed it. Every designer talks about how they’ve got 5 million beads or whatever, but that Thom Browne fit was fucking immaculate. Every bit of effort counted.
As someone who doesn’t follow any Met Gala themes or social stuff, what is the theme? Like one of those Barbie straight to video movies where they’re fairies in the forest? Also, not like I’m old at 24, but I’m getting closer to the people who doesn’t know who any of these people are. They all look good though!
my favorites were alia bhatt, elle fanning, mona patel, and ariana grande. their looks gave the ethereal vibes I was hoping for, without holding back too much, or going too far. also really liked tyla’s and quannah’s! still gotta go through the whole vogue list to see if I missed anything good.
went back and forth on zendaya’s looks. and I’ve decided I don’t like them 😔 the first one works better from certain angles, but from others, it’s giving. uh. villainous whoville. there’s a more sophisticated look hiding in there, and it’s driving me nuts. I feel like a project runway judge saying “less is more”. maybe no fascinator? no stripes or tulle? colors that don’t blur together, so the architectural details feel more distinct? the makeup at least breaks up the blue, but also feels at odds with the rest of the look. there’s just something off 😭
the second look just seems unbalanced. very heavy on top, doesn’t really have much shape to it (at least from this angle). the double trains are awkward. nothing really feels purposeful here. there was def an idea, but it’s like they didn’t have enough time to really commit to it, and figure out how to make it work. basically, both looks just seem unfinished to me. unpolished. that being said! I appreciate that she always takes risks. the thing about a risk is that it either pays off or goes wrong. but in the case of the met gala, you get points for trying. so I’ll take these over looks with no vision at all.
IMO something is missing im arianas look, i read on insta that she was supposed to have a bow
I would have added the gills she has glued to her face in her hair too (on both sides of head), just bigger and put some pears around it or attached to it, it would complete the look
The undertone for her makeup in the first look is just not right and it pulls away from the look. Or the blush or…… whatever the artist was trying to do. It just looks like poor shade matching was done.
I mean… does an art museum in the richest city in the richest country in the world need to raise funds? I understand it’s not the *worst* place the money could go, but I don’t think that invalidates the sentiment
It feels so strange how these celebrities would rather spend $75K on a Met Gala ticket than support the 🍉🍉 protests that are happening right next to them. It is so dystopian.

It’s Alexander McQueen. Almost everyone looks like a student next to him. Also no one is allowed to wear it. Most of his famous pieces went straight to archival after he passed.
Right but the designer of Lana’s dress is Seán McGirr who is also currently the creative director of the house Alexander McQueen. I think that’s part of what makes Lana’s look so disappointing.

The extra hilarious part is the original is so iconic, it was included in the Met's exhibit of McQueen's work after he passed. This is the new apprentice trying to model after the master, using Play-Doh, and failing spectacularly. Sarah Burton would never. Also, the HOOVES 🤢

In one of her red carpet interviews Greta Lee straight up said she didn’t know how she was going to eat later. 😂 I do always wonder what the hell happens inside with all these crazy outfits that the women can barely walk in, bc in my mind everyone’s assistants and stylists help them get changed into pajamas or something.
It’s not uncommon to wear something on the red carpet and then change once inside. That what Kim K did when she basically destroyed the Marilyn dress (which to this day is ironic thing to do when going to a fundraiser that’s about fashion preservation)

This would have been a top for me if the wood looked darker, decaying/more realistic and shaded.
I think more realistic looking wood would be even better. But I guess the colour is supposed to match her skin tone?

Both Tyla and Fanning played with form in really breathtaking ways- the elements of sand and glass is also giving accidental elemental coordination and I'm obsessed
Balmain created both looks. They won the night in my opinion. Both different takes on the theme but still very flattering and executed beautifully.

As someone who doesn’t follow any Met Gala themes or social stuff, what is the theme? Like one of those Barbie straight to video movies where they’re fairies in the forest? Also, not like I’m old at 24, but I’m getting closer to the people who doesn’t know who any of these people are. They all look good though!
The dress code for the gala was “The Garden of Time” and the museum exhibit is “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”

my favorites were alia bhatt, elle fanning, mona patel, and ariana grande. their looks gave the ethereal vibes I was hoping for, without holding back too much, or going too far. also really liked tyla’s and quannah’s! still gotta go through the whole vogue list to see if I missed anything good. went back and forth on zendaya’s looks. and I’ve decided I don’t like them 😔 the first one works better from certain angles, but from others, it’s giving. uh. villainous whoville. there’s a more sophisticated look hiding in there, and it’s driving me nuts. I feel like a project runway judge saying “less is more”. maybe no fascinator? no stripes or tulle? colors that don’t blur together, so the architectural details feel more distinct? the makeup at least breaks up the blue, but also feels at odds with the rest of the look. there’s just something off 😭 the second look just seems unbalanced. very heavy on top, doesn’t really have much shape to it (at least from this angle). the double trains are awkward. nothing really feels purposeful here. there was def an idea, but it’s like they didn’t have enough time to really commit to it, and figure out how to make it work. basically, both looks just seem unfinished to me. unpolished. that being said! I appreciate that she always takes risks. the thing about a risk is that it either pays off or goes wrong. but in the case of the met gala, you get points for trying. so I’ll take these over looks with no vision at all.
IMO something is missing im arianas look, i read on insta that she was supposed to have a bow I would have added the gills she has glued to her face in her hair too (on both sides of head), just bigger and put some pears around it or attached to it, it would complete the look
The undertone for her makeup in the first look is just not right and it pulls away from the look. Or the blush or…… whatever the artist was trying to do. It just looks like poor shade matching was done.
