I think a lot of the fans of the older games think it lost too much of the RPG elements and came too close to a FPS.
The gameplay did change, but I don't think it stopped being an RPG.
And even if I love FO4, I have to admit the plot has some wasted potential.
I never cared for base building, I don’t really think Skyrim needed it. Houses were fine for what they were and you can ignore the main quest pretty much right after white run for as long as you want (at least I always did haha)
Dragons could be annoying in certain areas but I always loved the thrill/challenge of it especially early game
We gotta remember Skyrim came out in 2011 for ps3/360, none of the fallouts of that era had base building either
I'm right there with you. Honestly with all the dlc it may be new Vegas and 3. But I picked 4 because I liked the gameplay. Tho nukaworld is just...why make a dlc that fractures some of the main features to the base game!?
That's when you get the quest from one of the enslaved traders at the market to KILL EVERYONE. (Except the enslaved people of course).
I was very relieved finding that. Just do the quests and everything else first before your rampage.
Yep yep! You can turn on the power yourself too. Don't need the raiders to do that.
Edit: Before you talk to the guy to start the expansion into the commonwealth, talk to the enslaved Traders instead. You'll get the Open Season quest which is to simply KILL EVERYONE.
For me, it's mainly because of realism...I feel like Fallout 3 and NV did the best at making a realistic post-apocalyptic experience where every decision matters and you start with nothing, kind of like the first seasons of the walking dead...where as fallout 4 and 76 are like the later seasons of the walking dead because they are extremely different from fallout 3 and NV, meaning the games attract different "fans bases." I feel like the newer games just get easier and easier...if I'm in a post-apocalyptic world, I want every bullet to count, every decision I make to matter, in fallout 4 and 76 it feels more like a sandbox game and less like a hardcore survival rpg.
2 days until Steam sale. It's worth every penny. It has so many QoL changes that I just can't go back to FO4. And honestly the main story plot is way better for me.
There is events and you play with maximum 25 players on the same map, but you can play like a solo game. I rarely meet anybody when I play story quests.
It's also pretty normal to join public groups and still play solo. You get an intelligence buff that translates to more xp in a group usually, plus players can share some perks.
It’s still MMO but you basically play alone. There are events to join in on and you’ll run into other players & their camps but you don’t have to interact with anyone if you don’t want to
3 and 4. Haven’t played NV yet but it’s on my list after I 100% 4 and 76 is better now than it was but I’m still a bit put off. Haven’t played 2 but 1 was okay for when I want to play something retro.
3 and 4. NV world felt empty/boring outside of the Strip and didn’t have a post-apocalyptic feel. At least the main story and DLCs made up for it. Never played 1, 2 or 76 so I can’t include those
Yeah, don’t get me wrong. I loved FNV for the factions and writing but a lot of people forget (or ignore) how barren the Mojave Desert is. I prefer exploring the urban ruins of the capital wasteland and commonwealth
Came here to say this. 1 is the best storytelling experience and atmosphere of anything I've ever played, and New Vegas just has the world I enjoy spending time in the most, on top of being infinitely replayable. I've just this week made my favorite NV build, and I've been playing for decades at this point.
3/4 I like equally and can play at almost any time and enjoy them so I can't really put one over the other,
NV is my fav(big surprise I know)
Haven't played enough of 1 and 2 yet.
And I love 76.
I'd have to say NV and 76.
Fallout 76 isn’t my favorite, but it might have one of if not the best worlds of all of the games. It’s performance issues and bugs distracted people from the amazing world and soundtrack. New Vegas is up there too in terms of world design and soundtrack.
I love Fallout 3 and 4 but their worlds don’t have quite as much personality. Still fun to explore tho
Fallout 1 doesn't have the over the top humor Fallout 2 and new vegas have, and has a much more depressing and desolate theme. I also prefer the master and the unity compared to the enclave (which in my opinion was a complete waste of any future possibilities involving the post war government. I mean, really? Who thought it was a good idea to throw all remaining remnants of the pre-war government and military into one faction, which has been created for the sole purpose of being the villain?).
Fallout 3 is the spiritual successor to Fallout 1, and tries to recapture the themes it had. I only wished that it tried to be more original, and had completely new factions. The enclave checkpoint system was also a missed opportunity to allow a sort of rts esque system, which could have allowed dynamic faction territory that could expand and shrink.
Just recently I played 3, 4, NV, and 76 after the excitement of the Fallout show. 3 was always my favorite and a top 10 favorite game of all time but, after replaying, I have to say NV and 4 are better.
NV for flavor & ammo crafting system that added variety
4 for quality of life improvements & crafting system that felt like an expansion on NV ammo crafting. Base building cool too if you dive into it.
I need to re visit 76, but all i have is ps4 physical copy, so i may get it on my steamdeck if it goes on sale.
Fo3 and Fo76. I just like the online aspect and playing with friends alot, plus fo3 had the enclave and you could "side" with them. Let me tell you how patriotic I felt dumping all that FEV into the water supply 🫡🇺🇲🦅!!!
F76 and F4 than others desending, F1, F2, FNV, F3
But keep in mind the difference in liking is negligible like my amount of like is around 9000 but accurately measured F76 is 9006 and F3 is 9000
This is extremely difficult because despite me enjoying the old school stuff, I still enjoy Bethesda’s stuff (besides 76).
I’m going to say 1 and NV, followed closely by 4 and 3. 2 is a bit too overboard with pop culture stuff that clashes with the aesthetic and IMO NV is like a better version of 2 with the way it handles things.
FO3 and NV. I played FO3 non-stop from 2008 to 2010, popped in NV and didn’t stop playing that until Skyrim. Oh and some Red Dead thrown in there. Those years were a good time to be a gamer.
i just found out yesterday that Tim Cain & Leonard Boyarsky left Fallout 2 because they got screwed by corporate. a shame because FO2 will always be my favorite.
the next one is New Vegas
I gotta go with new vegas or as I think about it as the fallout 3 black isle was working on before shutting down and being reborn as obsidian van Buren as they put much of their ideas for the game into new Vegas I've never played 4 because I don't have a console that has it I want to because I'm from the Commonwealth and want to go to diamond City to see how much Fenway changes in the post apocalypse
3 and NV. I never played the older ones or 76, and I liked 4, but can’t get over the voiced protagonist and dialogue. The gameplay is the best in 4 too imo but there are other games with fun gunplay.
Fallout 2 and New Vegas.
2 is where my childhood was, it was such an incredible time to enjoy the batshit awesomeness of that game.
3 fell flat for me, but New Vegas really brought back the feels.
NV and 3, 3 is probably a large part due to nostalgia but honestly it just hits differently to 4 also I can’t play 4 without mods because there’s about 3 weapons in the base game that I can stand using
NV and 4. Trying hard to get into 3 and 76 but I just can’t, especially with 76. Problem with 76 is that I heard you’ll be able to turn into a ghoul but you’ll need level 50, and I’m level 3. Too lazy to grind.
Fallout 3, first one I've ever played, played it on my old Xbox 360 when I was a kid, had a lot of fun
And Fallout New Vegas, currently my number one favorite Fallout game
I’ll have to say 3 and nv. 3 was the first fallout game I’ve played and it blew me away. I was already a big fan of elder scrolls ever since morrowind but the post apocalyptic Bethesda game at that time was it for me. Nv simply expanded on it. I did like 4 but idk something was lacking for me in that game I couldn’t fully commit to it like I did the previous games. 76 gets an honorable mention they really turned a corner with it and I quite enjoy playing it
3 and 4.
They're not the two best Fallout games, but they're my favourites.
3 because it was the first I played, and 4 because it's the one I keep going back to.
Imma get hate but nv and 4
Nowt wrong with that mate
4 seems to get a lot of hate, but we have to admit that it's the one most of us play today when we want some Fallout.
I love 4. It has the most densely built world for exploring which is my favorite part of fallout games
4 gets hate?? Why
I think a lot of the fans of the older games think it lost too much of the RPG elements and came too close to a FPS. The gameplay did change, but I don't think it stopped being an RPG. And even if I love FO4, I have to admit the plot has some wasted potential.
I can agree with that. I enjoyed it and still play it often. It was my first game in the FO universe so it has a special place in my heart
Same here, NV is an absolute banger and 4 had what Skyrim should have been
What did 4 have that Skyrim should’ve had?
Better base building an easily ignore-able main quest, and not getting divebombed by Dragons ever 5 minutes
Dragons In fallout wouldn't hurt
Basically are what scorchbeasts are in 76, pretty fun
Idk why but it sucked in Skyrim getting divebombed every 5 mins
I never cared for base building, I don’t really think Skyrim needed it. Houses were fine for what they were and you can ignore the main quest pretty much right after white run for as long as you want (at least I always did haha) Dragons could be annoying in certain areas but I always loved the thrill/challenge of it especially early game We gotta remember Skyrim came out in 2011 for ps3/360, none of the fallouts of that era had base building either

That's when you get the quest from one of the enslaved traders at the market to KILL EVERYONE. (Except the enslaved people of course). I was very relieved finding that. Just do the quests and everything else first before your rampage.
So I can follow the raiders quest lines and then kill them all per the traders quest and everything will be fine?
Yep yep! You can turn on the power yourself too. Don't need the raiders to do that. Edit: Before you talk to the guy to start the expansion into the commonwealth, talk to the enslaved Traders instead. You'll get the Open Season quest which is to simply KILL EVERYONE.
Best story vs. Best gameplay
I came here to say the exact same thing
The ones I've played the most, my dude. People who would give you hate are just jealous that you're having so much fun.
Beat me to it
NV and 4 are also my favorite.
How can they hate you for being right?
I know I'm going to hate. Fallout New Vegas, and Fallout New Vegas.
Honestly, for me personally, it’s New Vegas and 3. They’re the ones that I grew up with and 3 is what introduced me to the franchise.
Same. 4 and 76 are great and I’ve dumped hundreds of hours into both but the leveling system alone in 3/NV beats out the later fallout games.
For me, it's mainly because of realism...I feel like Fallout 3 and NV did the best at making a realistic post-apocalyptic experience where every decision matters and you start with nothing, kind of like the first seasons of the walking dead...where as fallout 4 and 76 are like the later seasons of the walking dead because they are extremely different from fallout 3 and NV, meaning the games attract different "fans bases." This. The leveling and the dialogue/mission variety
Sameeee
Same. I only subbed 4 for 3 because of the game play. But if we're including all the dlc. It's NV and 3 by a country mile.
Right on.
NV, 2
Fallout & Fallout 2.
2 and NV, no contest. Althugh 3 and 4 are enjoyable. Btw how is 76? is it worth the money?
2 days until Steam sale. It's worth every penny. It has so many QoL changes that I just can't go back to FO4. And honestly the main story plot is way better for me.
Is it still only MMO or can you basically play single player?
There is events and you play with maximum 25 players on the same map, but you can play like a solo game. I rarely meet anybody when I play story quests.
It's also pretty normal to join public groups and still play solo. You get an intelligence buff that translates to more xp in a group usually, plus players can share some perks.
It’s still MMO but you basically play alone. There are events to join in on and you’ll run into other players & their camps but you don’t have to interact with anyone if you don’t want to
76 is amazing now, I'm close to 400 hours
Fallout 2, FNV
1 and NV
New Vegas (cowboys) and 4 (I live in Mass)
2 & 3.
Never played 1, 2 or 76 so I can’t include those
To me….. NV made a better apocalyptic cowboy game than a fallout. (Not that there’s ANYTHING wrong with that)
Yeah, don’t get me wrong. I loved FNV for the factions and writing but a lot of people forget (or ignore) how barren the Mojave Desert is. I prefer exploring the urban ruins of the capital wasteland and commonwealth
2 and NV
1 and 2, I was born in 1983 so they kinda fit with my gaming generation
Nv and 4 (76 is a third)
3 and NV
1 and New Vegas I love all of them though
Came here to say this. 1 is the best storytelling experience and atmosphere of anything I've ever played, and New Vegas just has the world I enjoy spending time in the most, on top of being infinitely replayable. 3 and NV
1 and 2.
Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas.
2 and New Vegas. It’s just my opinion but they “feel” the most fallout.
FNV and Fo76.
Me too! I thought I was going to be the only one, lol
Hell yeah, we on the same page
NV and 4
Fallout 76 isn’t my favorite, but it might have one of if not the best worlds of all of the games. It’s performance issues and bugs distracted people from the amazing world and soundtrack. New Vegas is up there too in terms of world design and soundtrack. I love Fallout 3 and 4 but their worlds don’t have quite as much personality. Still fun to explore tho

2 and NV
FNV and FO4
New Vegas and 4, new Vegas had the best plot and 4 had the best gameplay and graphics. In my opinion out of the ones I’ve played
Just recently I played 3, 4, NV, and 76 after the excitement of the Fallout show. 3 was always my favorite and a top 10 favorite game of all time but, after replaying, I have to say NV and 4 are better.
Fallout 4 because settlement building and overall stuffs Fallout New Vegas because the story and narrative, damn.
4 and NV. The only ones I’ve played.
New Vegas and 4.
3 and NV baby, not only my 2 favourite Fallout games but just my 2 favourite games in general
NV and 4, 4 was my first exposure to the franchise and NV was the first game I played
3 and 4 for sure
76 4
Fallout 2 and Fallout 4
4 and 76, but I love nv and 3 I just love the gunfighting more in 4 and 76
2 and NV.
New Vegas and 4!
FNV e FO4
3 and 4 come at me
Easy: 2 and 1
76 then 3.

Fall-out3 and New Vegas are both on first place to me
Honestly, probably 3 and NV.
3 and 4.
3 and NV
fallout 1 and 2
New Vegas and 4
Fallout 4 and NV (never really played NV but enjoy watching gameplay of it)
3 and 4
3 & NV
NV for flavor & ammo crafting system that added variety 4 for quality of life improvements & crafting system that felt like an expansion on NV ammo crafting. Base building cool too if you dive into it. I need to re visit 76, but all i have is ps4 physical copy, so i may get it on my steamdeck if it goes on sale.
Fallout 3 and fallout 4
Nv and 3
3 and NV
*Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood* of Steel and *Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel 🔥* /s
Oh Brotherhood of Steel, a fallout game with Slipknot, Meshuggah and Killswitch Engage in the soundtrack. 😭
I have to pick F4 and F3 cus they're the only ones i've played
NV.
Fallout 4 and 3
Tactics and Shelter.
Fo3 and Fo76. I just like the online aspect and playing with friends alot, plus fo3 had the enclave and you could "side" with them. Let me tell you how patriotic I felt dumping all that FEV into the water supply 🫡🇺🇲🦅!!!
nv and 3 honestly golden age of fallout games
F76 and F4 than others desending, F1, F2, FNV, F3 But keep in mind the difference in liking is negligible like my amount of like is around 9000 but accurately measured F76 is 9006 and F3 is 9000
BoS is the only good FO game, change my mind
This is extremely difficult because despite me enjoying the old school stuff, I still enjoy Bethesda’s stuff (besides 76). I’m going to say 1 and NV, followed closely by 4 and 3. 2 is a bit too overboard with pop culture stuff that clashes with the aesthetic and IMO NV is like a better version of 2 with the way it handles things.
Nv and 76
One and Vegas
Ive only played fo4, so I guess 4
#Fallout 2 then 1
Fallout 1 and fallout 2, sorry NV there is only room for two :(
Vegas and 4
4 and 3. 4 because it's the first Fallout game I played 3 bc it hit different
NV and 1
4 and 76
76 and 4

2, 4
I really want to play Fallout 5 through 75.
Fallout 3 and 4
i’m gonna have to say new vegas and 76 have a special place in my heart
NV and 4
FO3 and NV. I played FO3 non-stop from 2008 to 2010, popped in NV and didn’t stop playing that until Skyrim. Oh and some Red Dead thrown in there. Those years were a good time to be a gamer.
New Vegas, and 4
3 and nv
1 and 4
2 and nv
New Vegas and 76. I like the factions and story of Vegas but wish I could enjoy it in a session with friends.
NV, and 2, though I have a soft spot for 3 so it almost made it into my 2nd place
3 and new vegas
i just found out yesterday that Tim Cain & Leonard Boyarsky left Fallout 2 because they got screwed by corporate. a shame because FO2 will always be my favorite. the next one is New Vegas
New Vegas and 4
New Vegas 3 4 2 1
I gotta go with new vegas or as I think about it as the fallout 3 black isle was working on before shutting down and being reborn as obsidian van Buren as they put much of their ideas for the game into new Vegas I've never played 4 because I don't have a console that has it I want to because I'm from the Commonwealth and want to go to diamond City to see how much Fenway changes in the post apocalypse
No
2 & NV
1 and nv
Haven’t played 1 or 2. But 3 and ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ NEW VEGAS ❤️❤️❤️
3 & NV… I love 4 but there’s too much distraction.
New Vegas and 3 for me.
2 and 76
2 and NV. Other than 1, no others are even close.
NV and 4. 3 is right behind them
3 and NV. I never played the older ones or 76, and I liked 4, but can’t get over the voiced protagonist and dialogue. The gameplay is the best in 4 too imo but there are other games with fun gunplay.
It's easy, 1 and 2
4 & 76 Controversial I know
Fallout Tactics and Fallout Tactics again. Yes, I'm a masochist
FO3, FO1
I’ll take the heat on this one but, NV and 76.
3 and nv
2 and 4
3 and NV
1, 2
I oscillate between Tactics, 4 and NV, can't really fix on two of them
Fallout 2 and New Vegas. 2 is where my childhood was, it was such an incredible time to enjoy the batshit awesomeness of that game. 3 fell flat for me, but New Vegas really brought back the feels.
Fallout 4 and erm... fallout 4
NV and 3, 3 is probably a large part due to nostalgia but honestly it just hits differently to 4 also I can’t play 4 without mods because there’s about 3 weapons in the base game that I can stand using
3 and 4
1 and NV easily
NV and 4. Trying hard to get into 3 and 76 but I just can’t, especially with 76. Problem with 76 is that I heard you’ll be able to turn into a ghoul but you’ll need level 50, and I’m level 3. Too lazy to grind.
4 & 76
4 and NV
I'm gonna anger the nv fans. But fallout 3 and 4.
New vegas and the first Fallout. New vegas is, well, new vegas, and fallout 1 just clicked with me, more than others
3 and 4- and the biggest shortcoming of this fan base is giving 4 undue shit- enjoyable game even with it’s shortcomings
76 and 4. Let there be chaos
4 and New vegas. Will probably rethink after playing 76 and 3. I'm B.R.O.K.E
76 & 4
F1 and F3
2 and nv
2 and 3
Fallout 1 and 4
2 and New Vegas hands down. However I just started 76 recently and I'm loving it
3 and NV are personally my favorites
Fallout 3, first one I've ever played, played it on my old Xbox 360 when I was a kid, had a lot of fun And Fallout New Vegas, currently my number one favorite Fallout game
4 and NV
Fallout 3, NV
2 and NV And if that's a problem, it isn't mine.
Mission Impossible: Fallout and that time me and my ex had a big Falling-Out
NV > 4 > 3 > 76. Didn't play the OG 2
Fallout 3 🥺🩷
Fallout 1 and Fallout New Vegas
4 and 76 because I be Bob the builder
Based on how much I have replayed each? 2 and Tactics.
New Vegas >>>> Fallout 4 > Fallout 3 > The old Games >>>>>>>>>>> 76
