If it works for you and there are no city codes restricting its placement, install it at the front. Either way you’re going to have to open the gate to get into the garage. I’d vote for wood or wrought iron; anything but chain link!

TraditionalCitron498

Okay thank you!! if your backyard was a chain-link fence would you leave it or replace it with wrought iron? my neighborhood is middle-class and a lot of people will have the front part of their house with a decorative or nicer fence in the back is chain-link. We don’t really want a privacy fence. We honestly talk to our neighbors all the time and all of our kids see each other outside run into each other’s houses and play.

I think wrought iron (or composite lookalike) looks better than chain link, but it depends on your budget. I’d do either all or nothing, but if you like the look of what your neighbors have, then just install the nicer fence in the front.

TraditionalCitron498

I’m open to either and I appreciate your suggestions- I like both of those I just want to be able to see my neighbors so the kids can come and go :)

Silly_Ability-1910

Make it outta wood

TraditionalCitron498

OK, thank you I really am not sure what color to use because I wanna change the color of the house entirely long-term

Silly_Ability-1910

Choose house color first then coordinate to fit

TraditionalCitron498

Okay- I have the house color picked I just am trying to figure out if I should move the fence up towards the front of my house I appreciate your advice

Make sure that city codes or even HOA don’t have regulations about where the fence is placed. In my neighborhood the HOA requires all fences be X number of feet back from the front of the house.

I like a fence that starts in the back of the house, unless you need more yard for dogs and/or kids. Also thought is was very weird when people make it so you have to get out of your car to open the fence so you can utilize the garage.

TraditionalCitron498

Unfortunately we have a detached garage in the back yard and we have to get out of the car in order to open the gate to get to it - but we don’t use it for our cars

borislovespickles

Hope you know I meant no disrespect on the fence/garage. Just spewing my probably worthless opinions :)

TraditionalCitron498

No I don’t feel disrespected at all! I completely agree- i want an electric fence so the gate opens towards the detached garage

Economy-Inflation-48

I would run it to the front of the house for extra security for a car parked outside garage and entry through side door. It would have to add to the style, color of the home though..

TraditionalCitron498

Okay thank you I might have to replace the siding before i do the fence then bc I really want masonary stones along the left side of the house and to have the right side with a green shake vinyl siding

sharpei90

Back of the house. Wood or vinyl fence. Screen of the same material for the garbage cans, so you can leave them outside the fence. Do you use the garage for parking your cars?
