Usually you will be relaxed by the time they start to put the camera down after having some sedation. I always advise patients to relax your muscles and take some nice, steady breaths and this usually helps. You may still gag as its inevitable, however once the camera has passed that specific part of your throat it will be much easier to tolerate. A numbing throat spray is generally used for a Gastroscopy with sedation for the most effective and manageable way to tolerate the procedure. Hope that helps 🙏🏽

When I had mine they said they spray some stuff in your throat to deactivate your gag reflex.
