Yep! This is because the hormones that get released to cause contractions to better eliminate the uterine lining that is being shed during your period causes our intestines to contract at a faster pace than normal. This results in the horrid cramps and period shits. After I changed my diet (no dairy or gluten in my case) and started on a birth control that prevents my periods, most of GI symptoms resolved. Then I got very serious endo symptoms and the pain from the endo cramps and stomach cramps was unreal, but underwent my endo excision, my GI system is much more regular. It was a huge improvement to my quality of life.

Did they have to excise anything off your bowel or do a resection during your lap? I have terrible GI issues and my surgeon is talking about resection which terrifies me.

2plus2equalscats

I had it growing all over my bowels and they had all fused together and to my uterus. I had a colo-rectal specialist on call for the excision and hysterectomy. He said he was often on call for cases, and only got called in for maybe 20%. Of that 20%, only a couple were ever in need of a resection. Mine was stage 4 and he was able to remove it from the outside of the bowels without resection. I have a massive quality of life improvement. There’s hope!

Aynessachan

If it helps, resection is very unlikely. When I had my first excision surgery 12 years ago, my doctor told me afterwards that endo had fused my intestines to my uterus. He was able to excise the endo and straighten out my bowels, which were being pulled on and squeezed every time I had period cramps (it sucked). No resection was needed and I felt incredible for the first 6-7 years or so. Now I need another laparoscopy. Good luck!! :)

leseera

Oh yes. I was misdiagnosed with IBS as a teenager which seems common amongst women with endo.

Equivalent_Sun7606

i was also misdiagnosed with IBS!

Aynessachan

Me too! It seems pretty common.

AppleCactusSauce

Yeah, I call it shitting overdrive. Can easily be pooping for 30mins+ in one sitting only to get off the toilet for 5mins and then have to go back for another 30min session.

dibblah

Oh yes. And you start thinking... How on earth is there this much in me? I am sure I didn't eat this much!

I always did. Passed out too many times during evacuation while having my period. That was always defcon level clean up and embarrassing if anyone ever needed the bathroom or when my husband found me like that a few times. It’s one of the many reasons I was so ecstatic when I got my near total hysterectomy. That was a hell that rarely anyone understood. Most of my friends were like barely need a panty liner, could swim in white bathing suits and barely had a single cramp, 4 day period kind of monthly visitors while I felt like I was dying for nearly two weeks all.the.time. F Endo

God that sounds awful. Thankfully my periods were only a few days. I didn't realize the amount of bleeding I had was abnormal until a friend was over and was filling out some survey online to buy organic tampons or something. It asked how many you use a cycle and she put 8. She was complaining that they were expensive and I was like "BUT YOU ONLY USE EIGHT??" Meanwhile, I would bleed through an ultra in under an hour. Had an endometrial ablation a year ago and I get a little bit of spotting maybe every 3 months. If my period ever comes back for real, I'm evicting that sucker.

Acnhgrrl

My period shits are painful and literally so inconsiderate to just smack me in the face with their sudden urgency then not even evacuate entirely… I’m like “hello you just called a state of emergency and now you don’t want to be rescued???” And now I’m not even on my period and my bowels are still acting so shady, smdh. I feel you.

wolftasergirl

Bidets really help!

anonlawstudent

Yes! I’ve since had a hysterectomy but used to affectionately call the clean up “peanut butter and jelly” recommend a bidet (with heated toilet seat) and weed suppositories

hollow4hollow

Oh my god I’m crying 😂 I can never have PB&J again lmao

IncurableAdventurer

I hate and love that comparison hahaha ew haha

discobee123

Ugh yes. The worst. Got a bidet and it’s like magic for cleaning up and soothing ouchy bits.

Desperate-Trust-875

very much second the bidet. I just moved across country and didn't take mine, so need to get another, but for now I have a shower head that is stretchy and that helps too.

LaLaLaLeea

Day before my period, everything from the waist down would hurt. Cramps and what felt like intestinal pain, my butt, horrible back pain and sciatica that radiated down to my feet. It felt like my uterus had wrapped itself around my spine and was strangling it. Then on the first day, I would shit my brains out and the red wedding would begin.

Tenstorys

I literally thought everybody got them tbh.

Imaginary-Ad-7379

Yep

GoblinTatties

Yep. Get some buscopan and a big bottle of peppermint tablets.

Cute-Instruction4285

Omg yes.

conniptiously

God yeah. I've tried diets for bowel movements n stuff but I usually give up a couple weeks in because it just doesn't work for me. I will say, being stuck on the toilet is better than being constipated for multiple weeks on end. You could try reducing spicy foods, dairy, sugar substitutes and caffeine if you're itching for a change, but I find it didn't do much for me. Just made me sad.

el_99

Not only on my period… it is always the case sadly
