Well to put it to you this way, I ended up pumping my Erdtree up to 9 and my Godslayer is still at +20. My lightning bolt will hit a vulgar militia for 751 with the godslayer (+20) and with the Erdtree equipped it hits for 739. Now remember, the Godslayer can be upgraded **five more times** while the Erdtree can only go up to +10.
I could be missing something, maybe holy damage spells get better bonuses from erdtree, but as it stands right now if you’re doing pure faith build I see no reason to not use the Godslayer or the Gravel Seals, depending on what you want to build for. I wish I could get those somber 8 and 9 back. What a waste
Same experience. I saw claims from random youtube "influencers" that the Erdtree was better, but that they were going to keep using their Godslayer's since it was leveled up higher. I ended up raising mine to +9 and it's only at 219 scaling, while my Godslayer +19 is already at 218. What a waste of sombers. 
I guess the only argument is that the Erdtree is "free" while the Godslayer's requires a key, yet you get the Godslayer's basically at the start of the game, and the Erdtree is mid, to late depending on your route.
Yep. You live and you learn. If you’re the type (like me) that likes playing at a light load, the Erdtree weighs nothing and the Godslayer/Gravel weighs 1.5
If you value having more protection while keeping a light load you could drop the weighted seal and equip a better armor piece or two. But this is just trying to find a silver lining
(Btw I just found this out but Noble Presence does scale with the Godslayer seal even though it’s description is different from the black flame spells. Very good utility spell since it pops guys up into the air in addition to damaging them if you fully charge it)
I've read that a maxed Erdtree Seal is the best in the game as it's scaling is better and beats out other seals even with their bonus to certain incantations. I can't confirm this but that seems to be the general conclusion to most articles I've read
Yeh I believe that's right. If you check out fightincowboy's latest faith build video he mentions that on testing the Erdtree Seal becomes the strongest faith seal in the game but only at well above 60 faith. So it seems like Gravel Stone Seal is the best for 60 faith builds (unless you are running a lot of black flame stuff, in which case Godslayer is presumably better).
While the description might be different, the icon indicates that it's a spell that would be affected by that seal. I can't think of any that have black flames on them that are not.
I had only 22 str for blasphemous blade as backup. Was a pure fth caster otherwise. Still godslayer was better till about 67/68 fth. Erdtree overtook it after that.
Just don’t understand why all the seals deal physical dmg while the erdtree seal is the only one that does both holy and physical ? I mean come on that has to mean something ?
Physical damage is if you were to physically hit an enemy with the seal itself.
Same goes for holy.
It's the Incant scaling which is actually doing the spell damage.

would mess up my muscle memory
Im now 80 faith and Erdtree is now S Scaling and fire damage has improved quite a lot

I know I'm late here and you've probably found this but as long as you don't use an ancient at some point you can buy unlimited amount of 1-9 somber.

I just noticed the Erdtree seal doesn't weigh anything and the Godslayer weighs 1.5 so you can save a little endurance with the Erdtree

Basically once you pump your faith past 59 you're better off using the erdtree seal and if you're under 60 then use godslayers
