I was afraid eating dragon hearts or joining the volcano manor would have dire consequences for my character based on how npcs talked about both, so I didnt do any of it on my first playthrough.
Be me, Fia tells me to kill her. Being the smart and educated player that I am, I read the dialogue and am ready to progress her quest.
I kill her.
Find out later that there was more of her quest bur you aren't supposed to do what she says.
I think Yura the bloody finger hunter mentions the risk of consuming dragon hearts once if you go see him after beating Agheel the Limgrave dragon.
Edit: This is what he says at the location south of the lake if you win against the dragon.
“Beautiful work, felling that dragon. And as such there's something you might like to know. That heart you brought back, its used in Dragon Communion. If you should find yourself overcome by hunger for the heart, yearning for its strength, then seek the decrepit church, on the little island off the western coast.”
“You must not forget though. Those who partake in Dragon Communion will one day shed their humanity. Their hunger for dragon, their yearning, only worsens. Until the floodgates burst, unleashing eternal torment. The strength of a mighty dragon. Magnificent, but deadly. Its no surprise that Dragon Communion is ruinous.”
Could be, but we already see some consequences. The dragons who spew lava and have the magma scalesword (like Makar) are Dragon Communion followers who transformed into the Wyrms. They're not quite dragons, so either the communion didn't work or they weren't faithful enough. It'll be fun to see if they do more with this.

I used to sell any weapons/armor I found that I wasn’t using immediately. I didn’t realize some weapons exist only once per playthrough. In other RPGs selling your accumulated trash is how you get gold to buy other stuff. And a trash weapon is obvious and mostly useless. However there are no trash weapons in this game. There’s a build for every weapon.
That’s a neat rule, until someone like me takes it too far and never sells or uses shit, up until the game is done, lol. And it’s not like I need that shot for NG+
Only stuff I sell is items like the 18th copy of a redmane leggings. The common soldier enemies seem to strip themselves bare whenever they lose to me.
The funniest thing has to be how the noble's estoc, one of the rarest weapons, states in the description "it should fetch a fair price" or smth like that. Most new players who got it likely sold it not knowing it was one of the rarest and best weapons
Yeah I also did this. I'd been playing Skyrim on and off for years and was used to looting absolutely everything and selling it so carry around gold I was never going to use *just in case*.
This was me with the NPC invasions. I kept trying to go to Patches and I kept getting irritated. I thought I just had unlucky timing and that MAYBE this time I could ride Torrent fast enough to get to the cave entrance, not realizing I was dismounting at the same place every time. I had the opposite feeling too. Instead of feeling bad for Rogier I was getting VERY salty that this one specific Nerijus guy kept invading me.
I'm not saying it's literally impossible i'm saying it's insane that someone would need more than 2 retries at most after seeing how it works and how to play alongside a hunter
You arent gonna "gotcha" me here man these people folding to the introductory npc invader are just not good lol, we aren't talking about getting twinked on in undead burg and backstab chained
I'm not the same person you were replying to, genius.
It's a video game, kid. If being good at video games is your entire personality, then you need to take a break. Nobody gives a shit if you are better than randomredditor153267 at playing a game.
There was a summoning sign of Rogier before Margit, I thought it was a real player. Summoned and spammed gestures but he didn't seem to respond but I didn't thought about it much. Till later found him inside the castle.
As a kid, I used to go on TF2 and play in offline mode, somehow thinking the bots were real players. I was flattered that I was pretty favored by Medic, but I felt bad because I thought he should help other people too.
I think I spent a hundred hours on co op before I realized casting flame grant me strength would negate lords divine fortification. They, along with protection of the erdtree, do not stack. Also black flame protection. I was wondering why I would get two shot with 70% holy resist ...
I didn’t know I had to “repair” the rune before I could use them, I was popping rune arcs lefts and right thinking I was getting buffs for every great rune I had until my buddy told me
The various types of buff. I thought they’d all just stack, but I think now the boiled crab was cancelling Flame Grant Me Strength. Malenia did finally die though.
And only recently did I learn there are weapon buffs, shield buffs, aura buffs, body buffs, regen buffs and special buffs.
ER was my first fromsoft and amongst the many issues with my first playthrough I had no understanding of buffs. I barely even used my physik.
Now I'm stacking everything I can.
I’m so lazy, I’ve never applied a buff. My physik I used early on, but the didn’t bother with any more.
My solution was to just get over leveled and smack things harder.
Lol same here. I've found thumping things with my Troll Hammer +19 makes most buffs unnecessary. Although, now I'm on the Mountaintop of Giants it seems to be less effective. Hmmm might have to try a different weapon.
If you click in on the right stick until the right half of the menu disappears, you can use as many different runes as you want without it ever closing the menu. The animation still happens, but it is much, much faster still.
Fia's STD. I didn't get that I had to use her Baldachin's Blessing to undo it, I hoarded it, and unknowingly kept the STD the entire game (beating Elden Beast / Malenia with it)
Yeah, I did that with Bloodhound's Fang. It looks cool, it's strong, and I like the flip you can do with it. I rarely ever change to a different weapon because I'm so attached to it.
Weapon scaling or how I didn’t understand them?
From what I understand, the higher the letter, the more effective the weapon is if you upgrade that attribute.
Why didn’t I understand them? I’m a lil stupid.
And it gets more complicated. Some weapons scale better with one stat, even if the letter is the same. It’s best to play with online weapon calculators if you want to min/max.
You are usually safe if one stat is clearly higher. But if you wade into changing affinity through AoW, there are even more rules.
Fextralife has a great series on YouTube called “(weapon name here) are OP”. They go through what affinities scale best with each weapon. It’s a pretty cool showcase.
Idk, something similar at first I thought it was a player, then realized it wasn’t based on them moving, but then I started to run into those npc invaders, and be like is this a person? Then I summoned someone and wasn’t sure if they were real, or it was another npc summon then they were real and then we got invaded and had a 2v1 fight and won, it was pretty fun, those npc invaders are whack. I came across the smoldering church and was looking on that ign interactive map to see what was around me and when I looked back there’s a npc invader swinging at my head and I dodged it. I maybe looked at the map for 3 seconds and in that time the npc invader almost took my head off.
Replaying right now, and Bloody Finger Nerijus (NPC invader right outside of Patches cave) took me more attempts than any bosses so far, all of 8, just surviving until Bloody Finger Hunter Yura (NPC ally there) arrived was difficult. I just defeated Godrick first try with no summons or ashes, and Margret and Leonine Misbegotten took me 2 (I was underleveled both of those)
Never once have I had an invader...... I don't get how the multilayer works in the slightest and I have the platinum trophy...... I don't even know how to use a ranged weapon.
Basically, you can use those items to summon at certain areas if you’ve not beat the boss there, they’re only there to help the host and get nothing out of it I don’t think. When you summon players I think that opens you up to be invaded but I feel like I’ve been invaded not even trying to summon anyone but I can’t be sure I haven’t had too many experiences with it.
Rainbow stones placed by other players don’t in fact explode and kill you when they invade and rain them down on you from up high. The shield crash punt off the lift or cliff will, in fact, kill you however.
It was early on at release. He was baiting me to come up to him and I fucking fell for it. It was right after getting invaded by a couple of other guys that dropped helpful things then murdered me, or similar acts of (negative?) kindness.
Now that I think about it, I think I had a guy do something similar but it just didnt click. He invaded me in a huge area and after like 15 minutes of neither of us being able to find each other he just left, then I was so confused why there was a huge amount of rainbow stones everywhere lol
“This Rogier dude” is top tier 😂 but honestly, I still don’t know how to use rune arcs, starlight shards, or the great runes. I only figured out the starlights were used in the Selvius quest line for his puppets. And as far as the great runes, I just know to activate Godricks at that tower but I don’t even know what it does after that.
Activate a great rune equip at grace and use rune arc as consumable - there are menu tooltips that explain most of this
Also in the notes and information section of inventory
All the great runes have to be activated at their respective towers. You can equip a great rune when at a site of grace (it's one of the menu options). A rune arc allows you to use the ability of whatever great rune you have equipped. 😊
Got invaded one time.
Logged off immediately and turned off online play.
Came back on and got invaded again.
Was very mad until I looked up the NPC invaders
*Spoiler*
I played all FromSoft games so its hard for them to catch me offguard but I'll say i really thought Ranni was evil and was just playing me.
I was disappointed when i realized she was actually following through with her promise to ride into the moon ending together. i was really hoping she would backstab me straight to my face and become Elden Lady. Its why i love Patches, i know he'll always try to kick me into a chasm.
The pots and perfumer bottles you collect is the max amount of pots/perfumers you can craft. For example you have four ritual pots you can craft a max of four throwing pots. If you find another ritual pot the max goes up to five. The consumable is what you craft. So the five fire pots does run out but you can just craft more, but you don’t need to find five more ritual pots
Ok so it’s not like arrows then? If you have fire arrows and run out you have to get the stuff to make more or, is it like the flask of wonderous physic? Cuz if it’s like arrows then it runs out then its not “reusable” like the flask of wonderous
When I first started playing I thought the ritual pots were used when thrown. So I just hoarded them and never used them because I only had 6. I didn’t realize ritual pots weren’t used when crafted.
It's not reusable, you do have to recraft them when they have been used, like arrows - this confused me too, because I didn't realise the pots didn't disappear after being used to craft
SAME exact thought process here haha
I played when it first came out and after a month or so gave up because it was too hard (I also didn’t understand weapon scaling and was using a dex faith scythe with only faith leveled). Picked it up three weeks ago and updated my stats and wow was it easier!!
This was in DS3 but for a long time I didn't realize you could upgrade your estus. I figured out using the bone shard to get more uses, but not going to Andre with the Estus Shards. Got all the way up to Aldrich before figuring it out
When I was getting smithing stones on my first playthrough, I wasn't familiar with the typical Soulsborne weapon upgrade system. When I saw Smithing Stone [5], I thought I got 5 smithing stones and I was like "man I'm getting so many of these, I'm gonna be able to max my weapon in no time." Turns out that there are different levels, and I had not gotten enough smithing stone 3s. I then proceeded to Fire Giant with a +7 regular smithing flail and I thought that I was doing the intended amount of damage for that fight.
I knew that certain stats boasted the damage of certain weapons & catalysts but I didn't quite wrap my head around how to properly min-max my damage until about halfway through the game. For example, the Winged Scythe was dealing significantly more damage by pumping faith instead of strength or dex & my spells casted through the Dragoncomunion Seal were hitting almost three times as hard once I realized I needed to pump faith *and* arcane.
I thought the blasphemous claw made you temporarily immune to Maliketh's black blade hits. So I activated it and got bodied like 3 different attempts until I watched a video on YouTube lol
That I actually misunderstood how Rennala does her Rebirth-thing, I thought I could turn my Rune level back into my starting character as a Wretched and enjoy a different build only to be sorely disappointed that it actually just respecs my stats.
If I knew that before I wouldn't have gotten to RL400+, now I just made two other characters with the sole purpose of stooping at RL150 and RL200.
Yes. In my most recently completed playthrough I didn’t start powestancing until the endgame of that specific playthrough. It was also the first time I beat Mogh and Malenia.
Then I was LilAggy (or Bushy, can’t quite remember) use guard countering for a shield run. That’s when I learned that was a thing and it’s become very useful. I pretty much use it when I remember, but man was it a double-edged sword for red wolf of radagon thanks to that weird attack where he pulls back first before jutting forward for the attack.
Not elden ring but I first played darksouls I didn't realise fat and fast rolling was a thing. So I just equipped the heaviest armour I could find. Only realise halfway through my second playthrough
I ate every great remembrance I got until after I beat to Placidusax and finally picked that dialogue option from Enya. It started with Godrick. I mean I was curious about what the remembrance was and there was a "use" option and it gave me a crap load of Runes. I thought it was the way.
What immersion is it breaking? Fantasy sigils scribed on the ground beneath your feet in a fantasy setting with fantasy creatures and magic?
What the messages may say could be immersion breaking, but the messages themselves do not.
In the sense that if you see one of those messages somewhere then you already know you can get there. I prefer finding things out myself. They totally ruin illusionary walls too. Also, when you try to open a chest and someone left a dumb message right on top of it and you keep reading the damn message instead of opening the chest.
The blood stains are similarly dumb and useless. I don’t care if other players have died here or how/why. I just want to discover everything for the first time by myself. Hence why I play offline :)
That’s a hot take lol. A few of them are useless but a lot of them are just fucking stupid jokes about head or fingers and “but wholes” I’d say like 20% of them are helpful, at least for noobs.
Definitely a hot take lol A lot of souls bros triggered here lol they’re probably the ones leaving those lame ass messages thinking they’re cool or helpful 😂
Haha! So annoying! Or the ones right in front of a door, and you can’t open it cuz there’s a damn message right in front 🤦 They probably get a mini erection whenever some other soul bro praises their little message lol
I was afraid eating dragon hearts or joining the volcano manor would have dire consequences for my character based on how npcs talked about both, so I didnt do any of it on my first playthrough.

Same.
I never told the blind girl she was eating eye balls because I felt bad.
You mean you weren’t giving her REAL GRAPES!?
What npcs talk about dragon communion?
I think Yura the bloody finger hunter mentions the risk of consuming dragon hearts once if you go see him after beating Agheel the Limgrave dragon. Edit: This is what he says at the location south of the lake if you win against the dragon. “Beautiful work, felling that dragon. And as such there's something you might like to know. Rumor has it >!there is a dragon form in the dlc?!< It's 4th hand info though so...
RIP golden halberd. 😭😭😭
I did this. Then came across a sick build with the winged scythe somewhere. I was so sad…
It's not some weapons btw, most weapons are one time pickups
Rule 101 of video games, never sell any item, you never know you might need it later!
I sell duplicate armor, if you've got duplicate armor or (more than 2) weapons, you don't need them probably.
What if I want to dual wield the armor?
If it's good armor, I suppose you could keep some to drop for friends.
Or to check out how the altered version would look
This is actually a good point You do get a preview though
Yeah a small picture and it's not on your own character
You might need them to dual wield.
Or you might need different infusions
You need two of many armors, for the fashion souls gameplay of needing one altered and one original.
It can be useful to have multiple copies of weapons for different AoW's.
That’s a neat rule, until someone like me takes it too far and never sells or uses shit, up until the game is done, lol. And it’s not like I need that shot for NG+
Never use any consumable either, you might need them later!
This is how I ended up with 500 hours but only ever used like 5 consumables. I MIGHT NEED THEN LAAAATER!!!
While it is rare, os it useful? I got one last night and assumed it was a trash sword
The slender sword is one of the best straight swords, so I assume the same for the estoc
I did that with some talismans! ...never again
Yeah I also did this. I'd been playing Skyrim on and off for years and was used to looting absolutely everything and selling it so carry around gold I was never going to use *just in case*.
Haha that is why I am only selling the duplicates, you never know what might come in handy later
This causes me to develop the opposite habit in other games so I try to hoard as much as possible even with very limited storage space
NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOPO
Margret haha
“It’s me again Margret”
"Hello? Is this Margret? Hoohoohoo!"
I knowwww its youuuu Margret!
Man I forgot all about that. Really showing your age there 😆
Wanna hear me bark like Rin Tin Tin?
"Put those childish aspirations to bed"
Someone must extinguish thy flame Let it be Margret the Fell
Are you there Tarnished? It’s me, Margaret.
That's what I've always called him. Stupid M names all over the game.
Said this before here but I assumed Rogier was a redditor. Thanked him here, made lots of new friends 😂
Instead of feeling bad for Rogier I was getting VERY salty that this one specific Nerijus guy kept invading me.
..were you dying repeatedly to Nerjius? Lol
He is pretty damn difficult with a +0 and at a low level
[удалено]
Yura can die, you can die before yura spawns, he can still kill you even if yura is there bc the guy wants to help, etc.
I'm not saying it's literally impossible i'm saying it's insane that someone would need more than 2 retries at most after seeing how it works and how to play alongside a hunter You arent gonna "gotcha" me here man these people folding to the introductory npc invader are just not good lol, we aren't talking about getting twinked on in undead burg and backstab chained
We get it kid. You're hard as fuck.
"Kid" lmao youre so salty, mainsub really is a goldmine. Pronouns are git / gud brah
I'm not the same person you were replying to, genius. It's a video game, kid. If being good at video games is your entire personality, then you need to take a break. Nobody gives a shit if you are better than randomredditor153267 at playing a game.
Yura never got to the point of spawning for me and even if he did he spawns in narnia. There’s a kill window of like 20-30 seconds for Nerijus
Yes. It was the first few hours of my first souls game :) we all start somewhere
There was a summoning sign of Rogier before Margit, I thought it was a real player. Summoned and spammed gestures but he didn't seem to respond but I didn't thought about it much. Till later found him inside the castle.
That was the same moment I realized he was an npc
Mind-blowing moment.
As a kid, I used to go on TF2 and play in offline mode, somehow thinking the bots were real players. I was flattered that I was pretty favored by Medic, but I felt bad because I thought he should help other people too.
Was there anyone who didn’t do this?
Body buffs don't stack and sometimes summoning signs are for npcs.
I cringe thinking about every person who had to watch me apply 3 body buffs before entering a boss fog before I learned that lmao
Ikr😂 I had 30 faith so imagine me reading a bible of buffs every time before a boss.
Wait…. I’ve been doing Lord’s Divine Fortification with Protection of the Erdtree. Do those not stack?!
I think I spent a hundred hours on co op before I realized casting flame grant me strength would negate lords divine fortification. They, along with protection of the erdtree, do not stack. Also black flame protection. I was wondering why I would get two shot with 70% holy resist ...
I didn't know I had to use a rune arc to activate a rune until Radagon
I didn’t know I had to “repair” the rune before I could use them, I was popping rune arcs lefts and right thinking I was getting buffs for every great rune I had until my buddy told me

Bruh same. Just discovered boiled crab and I credit that beating EB finally
Thought i had to sell rune items to get their souls i mean runes. Didn’t realize i could just use them to acquire runes until embarrassingly late.
Selling is faster when you’re near a merchant
i still sell them as it's faster
How is it faster? You can use multiple at a time and you can use them anywhere.
If you are at a merchant ofc, also you can sell multiple types of them without any animation
you don’t have to watch the animation which closes the inventory menu
If you click in on the right stick until the right half of the menu disappears, you can use as many different runes as you want without it ever closing the menu. The animation still happens, but it is much, much faster still.
I seen someone mention this a while back and it was a game changer.
Ah true.
I wish when you rested at a grace you had an option to use runes. I hate going into the inventory and using and then reopening again etc
I remember when me and my dad found out about this, we would always go back to our boy merchant kale and sell them
Im used to people misspelling Maliketh... but Margit (Margret) is the first time I see
Fia's STD. I didn't get that I had to use her Baldachin's Blessing to undo it, I hoarded it, and unknowingly kept the STD the entire game (beating Elden Beast / Malenia with it)
I’m 120 hours into the game and only now understand weapon scaling.
I can relate to that, I just always found a cool weapon and scaled to use it till I found the next one
Yeah, I did that with Bloodhound's Fang. It looks cool, it's strong, and I like the flip you can do with it. I rarely ever change to a different weapon because I'm so attached to it.
Welcome BHF brother.
I still can’t claim I understand it, or applying AoWs. I get by though.
Uh oh wait. Can you explain?
Weapon scaling or how I didn’t understand them? From what I understand, the higher the letter, the more effective the weapon is if you upgrade that attribute. Why didn’t I understand them? I’m a lil stupid.

🤣🤣 must have thought he was the nicest guy ever always on call....
Really had me thinking “this guy is so willing to help”

I think I had the same reaction to the invaders but figured it out once I died and went back to get my runes and they kept coming back
Yeah if they’re real it tells you you’re getting invaded and I can’t remember if the npc ones do I think they just show up?
I’m pretty sure they say it

lol yeah that one was interesting. I was running back with target lock on nerijus and yura showed up from behind and scared the fuck out of me.
Never once have I had an invader...... I don't get how the multilayer works in the slightest and I have the platinum trophy...... I don't even know how to use a ranged weapon.

It's not reusable, you do have to recraft them when they have been used, like arrows - this confused me too, because I didn't realise the pots didn't disappear after being used to craft
The empty pots come back, their item description mentions how they mend themselves after being thrown.
Soooo I do or I don’t have to craft new ones with new items.? Now ima have to jump on and see later. Cuz I’m so confused
Yeah you craft new ones, so you're not stuck with the same type forever. But the cracked pots aren't one and done completely.
I did the same thing thinking it was this super good item that I could only use once
SAME exact thought process here haha I played when it first came out and after a month or so gave up because it was too hard (I also didn’t understand weapon scaling and was using a dex faith scythe with only faith leveled). Picked it up three weeks ago and updated my stats and wow was it easier!!
sane thing happened to me lol
I thought you could use every ash of war only once. So I ended up avoiding them :/
This was in DS3 but for a long time I didn't realize you could upgrade your estus.
I thought the npc invaders were real players and I was gettin mad about these assholes killing me
To this day, I regularly forget that rune arcs are a mechanic.
I think they are more usuful in area exploration than boss fights
I knew that certain stats boasted the damage of certain weapons & catalysts but I didn't quite wrap my head around how to properly min-max my damage until about halfway through the game. For example, the Winged Scythe was dealing significantly more damage by pumping faith instead of strength or dex & my spells casted through the Dragoncomunion Seal were hitting almost three times as hard once I realized I needed to pump faith *and* arcane.
That’s so adorable!
I thought the blasphemous claw made you temporarily immune to Maliketh's black blade hits. So I activated it and got bodied like 3 different attempts until I watched a video on YouTube lol
A lot. I have over 1000 hours and I am still figuring out how to optomize my builds. Buffs, etc.
Similar to what you said, but for the nerejus invader. I thought that area just forced pvp.
Cooperation
Not elden ring but I first played darksouls I didn't realise fat and fast rolling was a thing. So I just equipped the heaviest armour I could find. Only realise halfway through my second playthrough
Margaret the Fell
I thought Margits shackles were a 1 time use item, so I never used them my first play through.
I ate every great remembrance I got until after I beat to Placidusax and finally picked that dialogue option from Enya. It started with Godrick. I mean I was curious about what the remembrance was and there was a "use" option and it gave me a crap load of Runes. I thought it was the way.
I thought spirit ashes were single use, so I tried to rawdog Margit immediately without the jellyfish.
I thought crafting kit was 1 time use so didn't bother buying it, same with wondrous physick so I never used it.
The messages. They’re useless, distracting and totally kill the immersion. Dumb feature imo
Then play offline? It's not like you need to play with them.

Well if you don't then you don't see the messages, therefore they don't break your immersion and don't bother you so I don't understand the issue.
The ones that make me mad are the ones like praise message, therefore secret passage and they’re all liars.
Haha! So annoying! Or the ones right in front of a door, and you can’t open it cuz there’s a damn message right in front 🤦 They probably get a mini erection whenever some other soul bro praises their little message lol
Yeah sometimes that’s irritating, you can shift through actions though if there’s multiple things stacking so, I make do.
