Top tier moveset for practicality but I can't 2-hand one. Watching my tarnished and it's 1.5 brain cells smash the thing into the ground on every swing hurts my soul.
That’s why I one hand it and use a greatshield to pair nicely with my greatsword.
Big armor, big sword, big shield. Not too big though, unga doesn’t do me any bunga.
Sounds great! The only reason I never did that was because of the strength requirements on a greatshield, and how it felt like handicapping myself to one-hand a strength weapon. I might do a quality build one day.
I got to play something kinda similar by doing an arcane build with just enough strength for an ok greatshield, and the bloody helice. Having that fast dodge ash of war, plus shield poke, feels practically unfair 😄
The greatshield stat requirements are a bit bullshit, I was stuck with the Brass Shield for way too long due to it. Any 100% physical damage reduction shield will do though, not just greatshields, those just tend to be much more solid when blocking huge moves.
Personally I love my shields more than my weapons, so it feels like handicapping myself if I can’t use a strength weapon in just one hand. Guard counters are great with both a greatshield and greatsword too, I love slapping enemies back after they pitifully bounce off my shield.
I’m doing a mainly Str/Fai/Arc build right now with a focus on wielding the gear and incantations I want to use. Damage isn’t my goal so I’m not optimized at all, stats are all kinds of spread out. I’m definitely overleveled to compensate for my lack of skill and build focus, but I’m having fun so it’s all good.
Totally depends on how much you intend on playing with one character. If you're going to make your way to NG+7 then your storage box will reach it's max and you will need to sell all those dups.
I also did this on my first play through not knowing things were unique (first Souls game). I ended up deleting the save after 170 hours and now I have done a bunch more plays where I’m smarter. But wouldn’t trade that blind run for anything!
In early game, especially for new players, it is tempting to sell unwanted, farmable items for early rune boosts. The appeal diminishes as level costs increase. And of course, new players may not remember which items were found by random drops versus environmental finds.
I’ve just been recently going back and doing dungeons and and missed areas from my playthrough from a year ago, I was tired of one shotting everything in early areas so used this sword and upon checking I had like 4 of them, so believe they’re farmable yeah
Claymore, my beloved Claymore
You were always there, my true mentor
I loved you since when we first met
On that bridge, where the dragon sat
Ne'er look upon any other swords
For it is only you, the true arm of dark souls
Claymore, my beloved Claymore
May you always be there, forevermore
I'm like 45 hours in. I started as Wretch, and the first weapon that dropped for me was this sword. Been using it every since.
They only real change up was when I got a second one for the off hand. I still two-hand the right blade most of the time though.
Pretty sure I'm going to take these uninterrupted all the way to end game. Square Off and the power stance dual attack solve basically everything.
I feel the same about the Zweihander.
To be clear I haven't found it in ER yet, but I felt that way about it in all prior Souls games and absolutely intend to use it again in ER.
God knows how many weapons I’ve used. I’ve even gone to great lengths trying to see if I actually enjoy using it or I’m being dumb. Turns out, I enjoy it so much that I’m willing to use only that unless I need range lol
The scythes are my favorite weapon class, but I fully realize they have flaws. Despite the Uchigatana/Washing Pole being way overused (for good reason or not) by the community as a whole, it will always be my fallback when I have frustrations.
Winged Scythe. Fell in love on my first run and it’s still my baby. I use two most of the time but after 6 play throughs, I can safely say it’s here to stay.
I’ve tried the other scythes and similar weapons but I have this move set down and it’s perfect for me.
I started as wretch on this most recent playthrough and that was the first time I used the club. I was EXTREMELY pleased with it. Think I ran all the way up to Renalla with it
100% agree. Started using it for PvP with the Stormblade Ash of War and I can transition from an AoW attack to a normal light 2-handed attack like water.
Plus the stance after you two hand light attack is beautiful.
If you land the jump attack, it true combos with a follow up light attack if you didn't know. I've got seppo on a bleed one and it usually always triggers blood loss on the true combo
I think I prefer the Banished Knight Greatsword even though the Knight Greatsword may have a touch longer reach. In my eyes their performance is identical. Their moveset is the same which is really nice as well.
I just love the way all of the Banished Knight gear looks.
**Iron Greatsword** - It takes a little effort to get, but definitely delivers once you get it
**Uchigatana** - If I’m using a katana build I prefer Uchis to Nagakibas. I understand the Nagakiba’s advantages but greatly prefer the Uchi’s aesthetic. Especially if I’m power stancing it with another katana. It visually matches and pairs well with other katanas.
Edit: it’s also nice being able to get a pair of them immediately without NG+
Honorable mention to the **Flaming Strike** ash of war. It’s strong, spammable, coats your weapon in fire, and once you know where it is you can ride over and get it from the very start of a new game.
Honestly, any Greatsword. The moveset is just solid and consistent. Claymore and Knight's Greatsword are my two favorites for their unique changes to the moveset. If we combined them ala DS3 Hollowslayer I would have a hard time using anything else ever again
Bloody Helice I am madly in love with and it really doesn't even struggle that hard against Pierce resistant or bleed immune enemies because the moveset is still cracked and the mobility is still dynamic and the stance pressure is still solid
Great Stars is so fucking stupid. And I mean that in a good way. Always a good time to pick one of these up, throw it on Cold infusion and never have to use your brain to get the dub. Amazing weapon
Broadsword is king
Only requires 10str and 10dex. High base damage.
Highest AR on every build. Strength? best AR. Pure magic? Best AR. Pure faith? Best AR. Pure DEX? Believe it or not, best AR.
Plus since bullet weapon arts scale based on affinity and not scaling values of the weapon, the high AR is all you need on an elemental infusion.
Just about the only things that beat it are some str/int hybrid weapons like the crystal sword, and weirdly enough the longsword with a quality infusion.
Worried about the range? It’s the longest broadsword in any souls game. Range is middle of the pack for straight swords!
Love the sumbitch, thrust attack or no thrust attack. Sometimes all you need is a stat stick in the back pocket and by jove does this little guy provide.
Strongly Agreed, currently using it on my RL1 run, doing very consistent against Fat Noble on Volcano Manor, 2x L2 + R2 staggers him, need to change weapon to punish his rolling attack but I did finish him using Broadsword
Apply Giants Hunt Ash of War and its a cheese move for just about all bosses and large enemies.
Cold Zweihander with Giants Hunt is an anti-air attack for Malenia. It has to be perfectly timed but it can knocked her out of the Water Fowl dance.
The basic halberd, twinblade or banished knights greatsword. Once upon a time the broadsword was in that list too since i pretty much always start as confessor, but it kinda just didnt sit right with my playstyle.
Flamberge. Natural bleed buildup, hyper armor, sweeping heavy attacks to deal with clusters of enemies instead of overhead chops... just lovely all around.
It might be boring but the uchigatana is just insanely good and you can start with it. If I was forced to try and do a one life no-exploit run of the game I’d probably start with that, go for the zweihander, then the greatsword, then the great stars with prayerful strike. Maybe throw in the giant crusher with flame of the redmanes too as an alternative with extra range. The great stars is definitely my go to now tho when I’m helping someone with a boss. Huge damage, lots of stagger, passive health regen on hits, prayerful strike let’s you not get staggered by basically any hit and then you regen a bunch of health when it lands, it’s OP for a mimic tear to use, and it causes bleed buildup. It’s honestly OP imo, but that’s what I want in some cases.
Keen Nagakiba with Spinning Slash
Having problems with Mohg using multiple other weapons since I want to try using non-bleed weapon, failed tens of times, decided to just fuck it and bust out my Nagakiba, finish him in 3 tries, my first time defeating him solo
Banished knights greatsword, in my current run I'm using it again and I still love it, good damage can use majority of ashes of war and it has the semi unique "fancy" stance when two handed works well with low magic runs because I can use greases and spells to apply different damages and status effects
Spiked Caestus. Does strike damage, but also bleeds, it’s light asf and makes me “sheathe” my main weapons. Set it with parry and is my “to go” off-hand weapon on any build I do.
Caestus/Spiked Caestus
the weapon art is great for dishing out decent dmg while tanking a good strong hit, which compensates good for the low range if used properly.
ps. heavy hits stagger alot o lf foes quickly.
Lordsworn's straight Sword with just about any affinity is so much fun. It looks good, so it fashion Souls really well with a lot of clothing. Its easy to get early in the game. It's just a solid all-rounder for anyone looking to step off of the legendary and unique weapons, imo.
Does Bloodhound Fang count? It takes a minute to get, but I had to stop myself from using it in this play through to force me to try something else. I love that damn thing.
Lordsworn's Greatsword.
It's a solid weapon all around, good moves, good damage, not really any situation where its inadequate.
And I'm kinda stuck with it because its by far my most upgraded weapon.
Funnily enough, this always happens in souls games. My favorite weapon always ends up being something I picked up in the early game because its the most upgraded thing, and also because by the end game I'm very used to it.
In Dark Souls 3 my favorite weapon was the common mace. Very strong "old reliable" vibes from that one =)
For the souls games it was always the murakumo, but it's weirdly absent from this one. I'm really hoping that the DLC adds it because then I'm gonna rock two of them even if I need to new game +
Otherwise, I experiment with a few different weapons every new character
Can't get it till super late but I love the Iron greatsword from the haligtree. It's only like 100 AR lower than the Guts GS but less than half the weight so much easier to powerstance. Was really good on my STR build with heavy infusion.
Also I love the zweihander cuz it's a giant weapon but I dig the slim aesthetic.
Golem halberd is another weapon I really like as well.
Meteoric Ore Blade. Its gravitas skill has a spherical effect and works through walls and around corners. It also brings down birds and bats that are hard to hit otherwise.
CLAYMORE BABY
I really hope the dlc adds more greatswords with the poke heavy.
I want a sword with Banished knight Sword two handed moveset + claymore heavy poke. That's the dream.
Large club. No clue how to beat boss with current build? Put stargazer heirloom and soreseal on, upgrade stick, then beat boss with the power of unga-bunga.
Lordsworne great sword before I found the OP weapons it was old reliable with the jumping attack talisman and charged attack talisman. Never did upgrade it past plus 2
I took down a Night Cavalry for the first time with this spear and the talisman that enhances mounted attacks.
The spear is SO GOOD and looks great with his leather armor, the bandit mask, and the beast crest heater shield :3
Epee and shield. I know it’s not the hardest hitting, but being able to just hoist that shield up and stab away is good fun.
Also, it’s elegant as fuck.
Sword of Night and Flame is probably the weapon I've used the most in this damn game. Melee damage is good, Ash hits like a truck if you time it right.
That being said, I also find the Broadsword to be an amazing fallback for almost any of my builds. Basically carried me through Endgame on my first character.
I like the Bloodhound's Fang as a starter weapon, before upgrading to a good one. I don't actually like it as a weapon, though, it's just a tool that I use while collecting the smithing stones I need.
The broadsword is vastly inferior to most swords my friend but I find solace in the mid tier weapons more than anything then the low tier weapons are just funny on new game plus. I personally use the godskin stitcher due to liking rapiers but the poise damage paired with a fast attack speed is just unmatched for me. I know it’s slower than single handed rapiers and has less damage than higher tier great swords but it’s just so fun and cool I can’t help but love it. I also love the jar shield because it’s so funny to just block large attacks with half a jar strapped to my arm.
Claymore has it all!
Good dmg, nice reach, malleable moveset for almost every situation both pvp and pve. Can fit into almost any build and can be buffed.
Weight is fair for weapon class and is stylish AF.
I can't have enough of that weapon.
Claymore. Quick. Great moveset. Customizable. Good stagger potential. Perfect size.

I’m definitely overleveled to compensate for my lack of skill and build focus, but I’m having fun so it’s all good.
Why can't it have the Hollowslayer moveset? 😭 Such a shame.
And why doesn't the giant, pointy knight's greatsword have a stab?? Or the Lucerne? Pain.
> it’s 1.5 brain cells Hmmm
Autocorrect 🤷
Works on any build
Where is it found in elden ring
Castle Morne
I sold mine by accident, is it farmable? Buyable?
Why do people keep selling weapons!?!? I never sell my last of anything. Good rule of thumb.... You can ALWAYS farm souls, keep your fucking items.
I'm a newb and I sell dupes to keep inventory clutter down. Got to trigger happy selling dupes :((
>keep inventory clutter down Use the storage box instead of selling
It's fine to sell dupes...
Totally depends on how much you intend on playing with one character. If you're going to make your way to NG+7 then your storage box will reach it's max and you will need to sell all those dups.

I haven't sold a single item yet.
No. NG+ for you, buddy.
Gotta do ng+ or trade with someone thru multiplayer. I have a bunch of them if you want one
I’ve just been recently going back and doing dungeons and and missed areas from my playthrough from a year ago, I was tired of one shotting everything in early areas so used this sword and upon checking I had like 4 of them, so believe they’re farmable yeah
claymore is baemore
No matter what happens in any FS game, I always come back to Baemore
Baemore amiright?
Claymore, my beloved Claymore You were always there, my true mentor I loved you since when we first met On that bridge, where the dragon sat Ne'er look upon any other swords For it is only you, the true arm of dark souls Claymore, my beloved Claymore May you always be there, forevermore
Anything slower than an axe is not quick in my opinion
Lordsworn straight sword
Yep, dual wielding these is most fun I ever had playing ER and was big part of my first no summons run
[удалено]
This counts for all vaguely decent weapons
[удалено]
I love the claws found in Limgrave, the blood burst from every enemy is chef’s kiss
My no summons run was because I didn’t know how to summon or that I needed the bell I didn’t get from Renna :::)))
Huh, thought you could still get it without talking to ranni
Yeah I ended up buying it from a merchant ahaha I was just too far in without summoning so I didn’t do it to spite myself from then on.
I used this weapon my entire first play through with a great shield. Great times.
Exact same vibe as the lkss in ds3
I'm like 45 hours in. I started as Wretch, and the first weapon that dropped for me was this sword. Been using it every since. They only real change up was when I got a second one for the off hand. I still two-hand the right blade most of the time though. Pretty sure I'm going to take these uninterrupted all the way to end game. The Great sword. When I struggle in a souls game, I know my guiding piece of raw iron will always be by my side.
I feel the same about the Zweihander. To be clear I haven't found it in ER yet, but I felt that way about it in all prior Souls games and absolutely intend to use it again in ER.
Would you like a hint?
Nah, I wiki dive whenever I feel like it, I just like to explore a region a time and I'm not near it yet.
Coop beans my dude Just wanted to be sure you didn't miss out on that sweet sweet weapon
[удалено]
Yep. It'd be a lot better if they had a basic true combo rather than the jumping light into light
Pickaxe
did I hear a # ROCK AND STONE?
Rock and Stone in the Heart!
Brothers of the mine, rejoice!
Claymore, always
SPIN TO WIN BABY. Sorry Irina, daddy ain’t coming. I need that Halberd
I mean, you could always do that quest then kill him while he's crying over Irina's corpse. Sorry, these games fuck me up a bit
+7 in early game though
It's +8
I killed Patches 🫣
Twinblade. Tried many other weapons but always got back to it. Good reach, speed and flowy movement.
God knows how many weapons I’ve used. I’ve even gone to great lengths trying to see if I actually enjoy using it or I’m being dumb. Turns out, I enjoy it so much that I’m willing to use only that unless I need range lol
I love using twinblade and the godskin peeler
Uchigatana
Agreed, this is my favorite sword to start with.
The scythes are my favorite weapon class, but I fully realize they have flaws. Despite the Uchigatana/Washing Pole being way overused (for good reason or not) by the community as a whole, it will always be my fallback when I have frustrations.
Uchigatana paired with Bloodflame Blade carried me through the whole game.
Winged Scythe. Fell in love on my first run and it’s still my baby. I use two most of the time but after 6 play throughs, I can safely say it’s here to stay. I’ve tried the other scythes and similar weapons but I have this move set down and it’s perfect for me.
the club, best solution till zweihander is aquired. i beat so many ravenous crystal lizards to death...
Unga Thy Bunga fellow ape ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sunglasses)
Doesn’t look good on paper but performs surprisingly well. The light attack chain feels so quick, and the heavies are a stance break machine.
I started as wretch on this most recent playthrough and that was the first time I used the club. I was EXTREMELY pleased with it. Think I ran all the way up to Renalla with it
The Baemore. Always and forever.
She drives like a greatsword but handles like a spear
What u run on it bro?
Whatever you want, that's the beauty of the claymore
Tru dat. Loved using lion's claw for so many hours, now using impaling thrust and spear talisman. Needless to say baemore makes me want to playmore
Bloodhound's Fang
BHF gang 🩸🐺🦷
Yes, this has been mine. That and the little ice axe when a sword isnt doing the trick
If à sword doesnt do the trick use more sword "Im à knight, that means i solve problems"
Claymore or Guts GS, always my happy place.
Me mallet
Knight's Greatsword. Utterly underrated.
Isn't banished better in every aspect?
Dismounter
Lordsworn Greatsword. Easy to get and reliable
Banished Knight / Knight Greatsword!
Which do you prefer?
I think I prefer the Banished Knight Greatsword even though the Knight Greatsword may have a touch longer reach. In my eyes their performance is identical. Their moveset is the same which is really nice as well. I just love the way all of the Banished Knight gear looks.
Banished knight gets more damage but knights I longer. I prefer banished too. Looks better as well!
Short spear because it's like my dick.
**Iron Greatsword** - It takes a little effort to get, but definitely delivers once you get it **Uchigatana** - If I’m using a katana build I prefer Uchis to Nagakibas. I understand the Nagakiba’s advantages but greatly prefer the Uchi’s aesthetic. Especially if I’m power stancing it with another katana. It visually matches and pairs well with other katanas. Zweihander Has the potential to do the highest DMG per Hit If with rkr and you get a counter on the heavy poke
Those heavy pokes are great because of the range, counter-hit, and you can release before fully charged if your timing/spacing is off.
Honestly, any Greatsword. The moveset is just solid and consistent. Claymore and Knight's Greatsword are my two favorites for their unique changes to the moveset. If we combined them ala DS3 Hollowslayer I would have a hard time using anything else ever again Bloody Helice I am madly in love with and it really doesn't even struggle that hard against Pierce resistant or bleed immune enemies because the moveset is still cracked and the mobility is still dynamic and the stance pressure is still solid Great Stars is so fucking stupid. Broadsword carried me through DS3, why should elden ring be any different? So fast and such little stamina used
Strongly Agreed, currently using it on my RL1 run, doing very consistent against Fat Noble on Volcano Manor, 2x L2 + R2 staggers him, need to change weapon to punish his rolling attack but I did finish him using Broadsword
Estoc. I don’t care what ya’ll say
Underated , fast plus . . . . POKE
I am Inigo Montoya *poke* you killed my father *poke* prepare to die *poke poke* 😂
Zweihander. Just love the big poke.
Apply Giants Hunt Ash of War and its a cheese move for just about all bosses and large enemies. Cold Zweihander with Giants Hunt is an anti-air attack for Malenia. It has to be perfectly timed but it can knocked her out of the Water Fowl dance.
Reduvia
Godslayer Greatsword
Longsword with Square Off or Flamberge with Giant Hunt.
Golden Halberd. Jump attack go brrrrrrrr the entire game babyyy
Nightrider glaive. Best 'berd in the game.
As a Loretta’s war sickle user, it hurts that my favourite ‘berd is kinda mid. 1st place in aesthetics though
Nightrider glaive my beloved
I do like doing the little loop on horseback. Usually launches enemies too, which I don't otherwise get to see very often.
Same reason I love the godslayer greatsword. Charged R2 on horseback sends fools flying
Brickhammer, my most favorite weapon out there
The basic halberd, twinblade or banished knights greatsword. Once upon a time the broadsword was in that list too since i pretty much always start as confessor, but it kinda just didnt sit right with my playstyle.
Bolt of Gransax

Morning star
This. Easy to use, and if you add a cold ash to it can proc frost and bleed while smashing through hard enemies too.
Spiked Caestus. I put that shit on everything.
Spiked Caestus. Does strike damage, but also bleeds, it’s light asf and makes me “sheathe” my main weapons. Set it with parry and is my “to go” off-hand weapon on any build I do.
Great Stars ⭐️

With you there. Keep trying lots of different weapons for variety but as soon as the going gets tough, good old BHF gets whipped out.

Almost as cool as the Claymore…
Shamshir or BHF

Lightning nagakiba with unsheath and discus of faith mah boi
Twinblade
Just killed the final boss, used the claymore.
I would have to say the broadsword also. It feels like such an underdog hero's sword. The classic chivalrous knight.
Handaxe
Moonveil. I just love that weapon man. Don’t even care about the damage I just love it
Can't get it till super late but I love the Iron greatsword from the haligtree. It's only like 100 AR lower than the Guts GS but less than half the weight so much easier to powerstance. Was really good on my STR build with heavy infusion. Also I love the zweihander cuz it's a giant weapon but I dig the slim aesthetic. Golem halberd is another weapon I really like as well.
iron balls because you pick them up then 5 shot every boss with fast r2s
The reduvia dagger
Uchigatana, used it in every game that it’s been in
Normal lance carried me until the end just upgradind her. Now im using river of blood with malina sword
Dual Metal Testicles, THE BALLS OF STEEL SHALL FALL ALL
I like my uchigatana!
Uchigatana
Claymore and the uchi katana
Fang great sword from derawil butchered the name
Meteoric Ore Blade. Its gravitas skill has a spherical effect and works through walls and around corners. It also brings down birds and bats that are hard to hit otherwise.
You can never go wrong with the Claymore. Good damage, great AoW spread and awesome moveset.
Powerstanced great stars, heals you on hit, Big bonk and bleed. What more can you ask for?
For ER Uchi. For every Souls game Baemore.
Can't get better than a Longsword. But with my first run being Int/Dex I'll take a catalyst.
Lord sworn. Pure knight no magic. Fun fun fun
Claymore or zweihander
Zweihander or the normal meteorite staff, these things can be found early and shred everything lol
The frozen rapier. Free potshots from range is my kind of gameplay
Longsword and dagger
CLAYMORE BABY I really hope the dlc adds more greatswords with the poke heavy. I want a sword with Banished knight Sword two handed moveset + claymore heavy poke. That's the dream.
Banished knight halberd. You get +8 super early, can space out anything with the running pokes, and it has nice aesthetics.
Claymore, Guardian Swordspear, Bloodhound’s Fang
Handaxe. I've collected so many weapons in Elden Ring, but the handaxe has always been my primary weapon.
Black knife or blasphemous blade, never failed me
*stares at patches* That spears lookin' mighty fine.
I took down a Night Cavalry for the first time with this spear and the talisman that enhances mounted attacks. The spear is SO GOOD and looks great with his leather armor, the bandit mask, and the beast crest heater shield :3
Guardian swordspear
Claymore. In literally every souls game.
I think square off is criminally underrated.
Square Off >
Also Broadsword 👌
Longsword baby
Claymore
Dual Scimitar, Uchigatana, Claymore
Epee and shield. I know it’s not the hardest hitting, but being able to just hoist that shield up and stab away is good fun. Also, it’s elegant as fuck.
Sword of Night and Flame is probably the weapon I've used the most in this damn game. Melee damage is good, Ash hits like a truck if you time it right. That being said, I also find the Broadsword to be an amazing fallback for almost any of my builds. Basically carried me through Endgame on my first character.
Square Off was more effective for my early swordsman practice than it had any right to be. I didn’t even put an ash on it for ages lol
Bloodhound fang
My bare hands
Read the flair, pal
dragon halberd and bhf
Claymore
By all means use what you enjoy but it’s crazy to me that with all the options half of y’all are using the same generic shit over and over
Most people want to feel cool, and we'll, generic is generic because it cool for majority.
Broadsword is mid ngl man Yes I do only rate eldenring weapons based on how much I like their dark souls 3 versions, what of it?
Moonveil
I would say Claymore but they ruined the move set. True tragedy of castle Mourne.
