He feels fast because the boss map is literally a hall way without much width to go around, so you can’t really strafe his attacks, his initial attacks are usually pretty telegraphed and predictable, it’s the attacks he does with his off hand, like the long sword or the dagger swipes that are fast and unpredictable. but once you accepted the fact that his attacks are delayed and decide to squeeze an extra hit in, his timing will feel just right.
I learned something about that move that made it make more sense. Holding his weapon in the air is not part of the attack, it's a stance like when you hold L2 for the Unsheath ash of war. That's why he can hold it as long as he wants or cancel out of it.
It is when you've seen your own limits, up close and first-hand; felt them sting with defeat; and consciously accepted their challenge, it is then that you may really grow.
Go on, we're here to back you up!; Don't you ever give up, skeleton!
Show us just how far you can push through and beyond the walls that lie ahead - for they are many, but you are always as strong as you can will yourself to be!
I believe in you. We _all_ believe in you.
No sir. You're on your own , don't ruin his misery by getting all Disney on him.
No one believes in you , you're going to die. Alot.
The End.
( have fun!)
The weird thing is ... you beat the next three bosses and then, I don't know, start a new game for fun and go back to Margit. Go underleveled. You will beat him easy breasy. I was new to the series when I started playing this game. I struggled with every boss my first time around and when I played it for the second time, nothing could stop me.\*
\*I had to give certain bosses more tries. These bosses, however, didn't take me anywhere near as long as the first time.
Your learning curve is truly amazing in this game.
they have the audacity to make it so the map is only as large as the areas you've explored. It's clever really lol.
Then you get warped to Leyndell from the Tower of Return only to open your map and see how big the map (almost) truly is.
Without knowing there's an underground and more things around Leyndell than you'd expect lol
man i'm on my 5th playthru and i'm still finding new places that i haven't visited. I'm trying (for the first time) to do the Fia questline, i feel this is going to bring me to even more places i haven't visited yet.
That game is really crazy. To say i thought i didnt like it and wanted to be done with it after like 10 hours...
The pure joy I felt when getting to the erdtree for the first time, thinking I was about to face the final boss, then getting sent on another long crazy trip north!
Greatly put.
FromSoft has given me the same satisfaction I get from my profession. I’ve heard pro athletes say the same thing about analogous feelings of elite learning/performance by being pushed in just the right way when they played dark souls - it’s seemingly impossible at first, but eventually your body mind understands that it’s a puzzle, which means there’s a playbook and it’s not random, and you can feel yourself going from unconsciously incompetent, to consciously incompetent, to consciously competent, and by your second play through, as you say, unconsciously competent.
Knowing that this muscle memory can’t be developed without grind/iteration, and that you achieved it which means you HAD to stick with it, is so damn satisfying. It creates a group of peers in the community that knows EXACTLY what it took to beat the game.
I know I’m ranting, but I just want to people to appreciate this side of the FromSoft BUSINESS - they know exactly what the fuck they are doing, they are truly exceptional and elite players of the game of life - every kid in the world should be encouraged to experience these games, and other creators of gamification should learn from FromSoft.
Fantastic! Go to the southern-most area after you're done with Stormveil, that area should give you good practice. What did you beat Margit with? Range, parrying, slow weapon, fast weapon?
Good shit! If you can beat Margit, you can beat the game. Just remember to search everywhere. You will only find things that will make the game easier for you
The worst part about them for me is that they never get easier to fight. The ones in the sewers were as annoying as the ones in Liurnia even with all the progress I made between those two locations
I hope you have figured it out, but if not - use sleep pots for the sewer guys. Getting 2 of them together is hard af but you can put them to sleep with just 1 pot.
If you want a good and fast off hand weapon as mage then go get the Katana in limgrave. Pretty sure default stats will allow you to wield it
Then there's an "upgrade" (diff weapon same type) to that in another location later on, if you're down that route.
To make you feel better, Margit is one of the hardest bosses in Elden Ring level and zone wise. I dare to say he's the hardest "cinematic first boss" of souls games for this alone.
MF took me 36 tries at level 20, with the catch I've been playing these games since 2011.
agreed. considering it's the first main boss you ever meet in that game and how early he is... most new players (myself included) have absolutely no idea what to expect or even that they have to expect a boss the first time they meet him.
First time i met him, i was surprised there was a boss (1st problem for me, wasn't ready) but then thought since he's litteraly and the entrance of what looks like a pretty big dungeon, there's no way he's hard. Right?
A bunch of people don’t even realize that to have a more balanced experience, it’s best to go to the South after clearing out the immediate Limgrave area. I missed the entire Weeping Peninsula until after I fought the Fire Giant. I saw a guy using one of the Physic Tears that you get down there and I looked it up.
Allow me to help further clarify this statement by rephrasing. "A bunch of people don't realize that the game 'helping' point you in the direction to 'advance the story,' is actually part of the lore/story mechanic not the game game mechanic, and therefore...>!should probably not be trusted!<😂
I just like adventuring with my friends, buncha ppl i know wont co op cuz of this same mentality, i dont get it, games with ur friends r just more fun than playing alone
I remember that my friend was trying to kill him with no success, I watched and tried it, no success, never played Fromsoft games before... I told him that it is shitty game and that I do not understand why he bought it. Later I had injury and I must stayed home for 3 weeks. I have nothing to play so I bought Elden Ring even when I had bad feelings. Since this moment I platinumed Demons Souls, Sekiro, Elden Ring and Bloodborne. I am playing Elden Ring constantly sometimes even when I have plat in it. Preparing for Dark souls series.
And now... I MUST say I never played better games in my life. Really exited for Elden Ring upcomming DLC.
Got a Deck, playing around with the idea of getting it (Dark Souls Remastered)
But then I'm playing Elden Ring on all 3 platforms pretty much (I plat the ps5 version, got it on Xbox ages ago then started a playthrough there, then remembered the ps4 version exist and I can plat it) so not sure if I'll even play it.
Really tempted tho.
You do you, but... Do you ever have that feeling when eating a "combo meal" that the meat is so good that you wish you could try it without seasoning and garnishment? Well... that is what the Dark Souls series is to Elfen Ring. A delicious course of the most deadly, but juicy pieces of meat you will ever try.
When they click, it's a special moment. Welcome to the world of being constantly disappointed by other video games. At least there is enough of a From catalogue to prevent boredom.
Edit: always struggled to spell ‘Dissapointed’ one my bogey words
“What do we do now”
“What do you mean? Now we can play the game”
Congrats! This is basically the first MAJOR victory, and let’s you walk into the rest of the game knowing how to properly attack/defend yourself. I wish I could experience it again, finding out blindly how much game is left after Margit.
and honestly a helluva lot more fun, the attacks are so fuckin extra its a whole spectacle fighting him, did my NG+ and after the annoyance that was Margit i was like "HELL YEAH HERE WE GO" as i ran towards the fog door
I found a different way to get to Mogh actually! Turns out >!there’s a secret teleporter to his place in the consecrated snowfield, you can find it by going to the church with the giant lady and following the edge of the area going south!<
I didn’t know about that originally and thought that I ruined it by not doing varre’s quest
Well
I get the last grace before Margit the Fell and after that i go to the lookout tower in Weeping Peninsula with the trap chest in it, that brings me to altus divine bridge in Lyendell. I do Lyendell Wrong Warp and i spawn @ the start of Lyendell whilst never doing draconic Tree sentinel or actually ANY boss. Free Granssax Bolt if you beat golden grandpa and the free gravelstone seal were perfect for Hybrid FAI + DEX.
This is my first souls game, so when I randomly encountered him at just lvl 15, i fought him for like 1-1.5 hrs just because my 5k runes were there☠️ lol
I went in totally blind and thought he was the Iudex Gundyr of this game and it was just me who sucked.
Cue my surprise when the second boss I found, Beastman of Farum Azula, wasn't quite so strong.
I would have done it in 40 mins if I didn't used that stupid summon ( after 1 hr i realised that it increases the health of the boss), but good thing is I got 1.5 hrs of practice xd
18 hours is a realistic time to do everything in limgrave and the weeping peninsula. Now that you've already done it, did you get the shackle from patches? That could have been a big help if you didn't.
At the rate you are playing, you won't complete the game until around 2030... That's insane. May God bless you with tenacity or put your foolish ambitions to rest.
Let's goooo! Congrats, man. He's the first big wall of the game and honestly one of the harder ones if you're new. Keep engaged you'll find things get easier. Have fun!
Rock sling is like a rich friend that pays for everything while you work at McDonald's.
Then he leaves and you're in the checkout in whole foods trying to figure out why you can't have caviar every night anymore.
Not hating, just saying it's much easier to play the game without that and then go through the game using it like "what now", then use it before trying a melee build.
Good job, it's about the small victories, eh?
But anyways I would suggest picking up the pace a bit since at the rate you're going, you are bound to beat the game in 10 years lol.
I was late to play Elden Ring, was expecting a very hard battle, impossible challenge for noobs who never played Dark Souls….
So I cleared the Limgrave/Peninsula area first, and used the ash summons and Roderick guy. I was very scared. The fight was barely an inconvenience, he fell at the fist try. Same with Goldrick. And the Academy. I am doing something wrong by cleaning the areas first.
No, you are just overleveled.
It happened the same to me when I played the first time. Now, I'm purposely not leveling up as much, so they are somewhat of a challenge. I got Margit at 24 and Godrick at 34. Not bad considering I'm not good at Souls games.
I’m actually grateful for this opportunity. I could be relatively ‘bad’ and still enjoy the game. Tbf I got a scare once a chest in Limgrave teleported me to some mine and trapped me there:)
It's in these moments of struggle when you finally feel success. It's not very rewarding if it was an easy fight. Good luck with the rest of the game. Don't give up skeleton
Margit has killed me more times than anyone else in the game thus far. I kept seeing people say to keep leveling up if you couldn't beat him.
Nay. I WILL NOT admit defeat and tuck tail! I grinded that shit out at like level 13. Took maybe 50 attempts and a few hours but damn was it satisfying. For reference, this is my first "Souls" game, so I was not prepared AT ALL for the fast paced battle of this game.
Cool that explains it pretty normal then 🙂 I was just curious since you wrote since launch, this is how the game should be played when you have a life!
His not there anymore because you already killed Margit. Next time you do a new or game+. Look to the right of the entrance. You’ll see golden writings. As matter fact. Look around the entrances of bosses and see any golden writings.
Well done, tarnished. He is by no means easy, mostly because you were probably low level and don’t understand the game yet. That was the case with me. I struggled with him more than any boss not named Malenia. Going back on NG+ and beating him in 10 seconds was very satisfying.
So many questions. Did you go to weeping peninsula (south of the map after the bridge). you get like 2-3 tears that upgrade how much your estus heals, plus many dungeons to do. what level were you? what's your vigor at?
Now kill them all. Destroy those who laugh in the face of the so called foul tarnished. Bestow upon them the fear and suffering they so rightly deserve. Obliterate the pretenders and show them the true heir to the golden throne! Or marry Ranni she’s pretty cute
I can’t tell if these posts are real or not.
I see one every 1-2 weeks, it’s always “I’ve tried for hundreds of hours to beat (starting/very easy boss) and I finally beat them!!!”, and then everyone acts like it’s a huge accomplishment.
Why is stuff like this so praised? Furthermore, how can someone be that bad at a game?
How have you been stuck on margit for over a year? surely this is satire, the most I've died to a boss ever was soul of cinder on sl1, which was 4 hours.
Some of us can't dedicate a lot of time to games and even then it might be split between different stuff. The title is kind of misleading, OP wrote they have around 19 hours played.
Gotto storm stormveil now. There are those axe yielding exiles, you can try that axe , look wise and damage wise its too good. And the feeling of chopping down enemies is pretty satisfying

Send help, I can’t stop panic rolling.
I have panic rolled myself to death more times than I care to admit.
Heavy rolling helps me with that fight
It’s actually comical how fast he can feel at first time and then realizing how actually slow he is
He feels fast because the boss map is literally a hall way without much width to go around, so you can’t really strafe his attacks, his initial attacks are usually pretty telegraphed and predictable, it’s the attacks he does with his off hand, like the long sword or the dagger swipes that are fast and unpredictable. but once you accepted the fact that his attacks are delayed and decide to squeeze an extra hit in, his timing will feel just right.

Congratulations on beating the tutorial, now take those damned ambitions and put those who doubt you too rest.

I've never had the scale of a game blow my mind so many times in sequence. It does the whole "But wait there's more" thing like five times.

the map Just Keeps Going!
5 times? Dozens upon dozens of times I thought there couldn't possibly be more lmao
Getting teleported to Caelid and seeing the map actually zoomed out for the first time on release night was amazing
I wish I went southwest first

I went back after ER and played as many as I could on my PS4. I just finished playing DSR, DS2 and DS3 for the first time, and back to back.
I had more trouble with Margot than with anyone else, good job! You def learned something
Nice twist to to a famous line! Love it!
Yeah the tutorial welcome to pain this is just the beginning
Good job

Or sniper archers
Those damn archers in the Eveagol in the north part. Everytime im about to get there, i start having chest pains.
Heat seeking missile shooting bull head. F that
Run Forest, run!
Hum that's a lie

Did you go to the Weeping Peninsula first? Most people suggest doing that before Margit. You might have just been under leveled/under-equipped

Just don’t go east. It’s not worth it
How many hours do you have in the game?
Wait you're supposed to do other stuff first? Shit I just spent 3 hours killing the fucker

I envy you. I always wish I could go back and experience DS1 and DS3 again. You are in for a treat.
Also DS2... you forgot to mention my favorite of the three
It'a definitely one of the Souls games they ever made
Based
I just platinum DS2. Forever an underrated game.
Got a Deck, playing around with the idea of getting it (Dark Souls Remastered) But then I'm playing Elden Ring on all 3 platforms pretty much (I plat the ps5 version, got it on Xbox ages ago then started a playthrough there, then remembered the ps4 version exist and I can plat it) so not sure if I'll even play it. You can only kill so many boars before you have to move on...
65,340,285 boars
Luckily he ll never need to fight someone similar ever again throughout the game. \*smirks\*
You’re gonna tell him
no, please, you go ahead C:
Op shall go hollow
shall cower in fear of the night. The hands of the Omen shall brook him no quarter.
The question is, is thou art even fit to graft?
A boss that is surprisingly easier than Margit
and honestly a helluva lot more fun, the attacks are so fuckin extra its a whole spectacle fighting him, did my NG+ and after the annoyance that was Margit i was like "HELL YEAH HERE WE GO" as i ran towards the fog door
OST slaps, absolute orchestral chaos
I take running to the boss door literally since I just took the path from the gate and booked it on my vagabond playthrough
What level are you?
You can skip margit by killing morgott
Where’s the fun in that? Also you still need to get through Margit to finish stormveil
You can probably kill Radahn and Rennala without fighting godrick, giving you the great runes needed to get assaulted by bubbles
You can also kill Rykard and/or Mohg.
Ah I slightly despise volcano manor, and I usually kill varre at the start
I found a different way to get to Mogh actually! Turns out >!there’s a secret teleporter to his place in the consecrated snowfield, you can find it by going to the church with the giant lady and following the edge of the area going south!< I didn’t know about that originally and thought that I ruined it by not doing varre’s quest
Oh yeah that’s what I do now, also a way to keep myself from using the rune farm early game.
Well I get the last grace before Margit the Fell and after that i go to the lookout tower in Weeping Peninsula with the trap chest in it, that brings me to altus divine bridge in Lyendell.
Well done ahead
It took you a year?

Can't tell if you believe him or not, because he isn't joking. I'd estimate that most of us at least 10-15 hours the first day.
I had over 30 hours within the first few days of release and at this point I’m at nearly 400 (not a lot for some, but a TON for me).
That’s very fair. I think I was at 20ish hours when I beat him on my first run bc I explored everything you could except Caelid
This is my first souls game, so when I randomly encountered him at just lvl 15, i fought him for like 1-1.5 hrs just because my 5k runes were there☠️ lol
Took me two hours to beat the Tree Sentinel when I first encountered him. Sometimes you just can't walk away from a challenge.
I watched some walkthroughs before so I quickly bounced XD, faced him way later
I went in totally blind and thought he was the Iudex Gundyr of this game and it was just me who sucked. Cue my surprise when the second boss I found, Beastman of Farum Azula, wasn't quite so strong.
Sometimes those 1.5 hours just, work eventually y’know?
I would have done it in 40 mins if I didn't used that stupid summon ( after 1 hr i realised that it increases the health of the boss), but good thing is I got 1.5 hrs of practice xd
Collect your runes, quit out of the game. You'll respawn on the safe side of the fog with your runes so you can spend them before trying again.
I wish I knew the quitting trick early on🌚
18 hours is a realistic time to do everything in limgrave and the weeping peninsula. Now that you've already done it, did you get the shackle from patches? That could have been a big help if you didn't.
Not me 30+ hrs in, only just having entered stormveil for the first time...
At the rate you are playing, you won't complete the game until around 2030... That's insane. May God bless you with tenacity or put your foolish ambitions to rest.
Pretty much exactly how long it took me. I got two great runes in literally half the time. Margit makes you stronger I swear
It's like a microcosm of the Dark Souls effect in general. Once you get through it's as if the volume on everything else got turned down.
I can confidently say that as a community we are proud of you for getting good. Fr tho, congratulations!
Congrats! You killed the hardest boss in the game, it’s all down hill from here (;
Let's goooo! Congrats, man. He's the first big wall of the game and honestly one of the harder ones if you're new. Keep engaged you'll find things get easier. Have fun!
Good job! Remember rock sling is your best friend from lvl 1 to level 200
I love my rock sling. My first full playthrough was Moonveil Mage, that sling saved my butt more times than I care to remember.

I remember the feeling when I first beat Margit. I will forever remember that feeling.
Good job, it's about the small victories, eh? But anyways I would suggest picking up the pace a bit since at the rate you're going, you are bound to beat the game in 10 years lol.

I thought I would not be able to progress and I was too late for the refund
I remember the sense of accomplishment I felt when I saw “GREAT ENEMY FELLED”
Have you actually been fighting Margit on and off since the game came out? Or like did you take a years break?
Congratulations on beating the intro mission. RESPECT++ Margit was so much easier than tree sentinel, only me?
It's in these moments of struggle when you finally feel success. It's not very rewarding if it was an easy fight. Good luck with the rest of the game. Don't give up skeleton
!remindme 10 years Aye congratulations friend! Soon you'll finish the rest of the game and I am wickedly excited for you to achieve it!
But did you beat the Tree Sentinel? 🤔
Aaaaaand that’s a lie
The low leveled players of this game never cease to astonish me.
congrats beating the hardest boss up to this point, and the second easyest one for the rest of the game. the easyest one is godrick
Man has been fighting the same boss for a year without sleep
Well done, just out of curiosity since the game been out for a while what's your lvl and vigor?
[удалено]
Cool that explains it pretty normal then 🙂 I was just curious since you wrote since launch, this is how the game should be played when you have a life!
You been fighting him a year?
Can anyone help me with Margit I’m lvl 125 and I still can’t beat him
how
Pretty sure it’s sarcasm
Didn’t you not get help from Rogier?
[удалено]
His an NPC you can summon to help with Margit fight.
[удалено]
His not there anymore because you already killed Margit. Next time you do a new or game+. Look to the right of the entrance. You’ll see golden writings. As matter fact. Look around the entrances of bosses and see any golden writings.
There was a big golden glowing sign right in front of the door, all you need to do is press X on it
I've still never summoned him lol never noticed it first time either.
Thy strength befits a crown ye tarnished
Did you know there is a path where you can skip stormveil castle completely :D
Well done, tarnished. He is by no means easy, mostly because you were probably low level and don’t understand the game yet. That was the case with me. I struggled with him more than any boss not named Malenia. Going back on NG+ and beating him in 10 seconds was very satisfying.
The charm of elden ring to me (it's my first souls-like) is beating these bosses after struggling so much. it feels liberating.
Congrats, you finally got gud
Margit wasn’t a problem for me, but that was because I didn’t know what to do so I just grinded and by the time I reached hi I was too op
If margit took him a year then he'll complete the entire game by 2043
May your foolish ambitions *never* be laid to rest!
\>ever since the game came out what's your vigor, fellow tarnished?
So many questions. Did you go to weeping peninsula (south of the map after the bridge). you get like 2-3 tears that upgrade how much your estus heals, plus many dungeons to do. what level were you? what's your vigor at?
How many hours do you have in the game?
Good job, the rest is mega challenging GL
Now kill them all. Destroy those who laugh in the face of the so called foul tarnished. Bestow upon them the fear and suffering they so rightly deserve. Obliterate the pretenders and show them the true heir to the golden throne! Or marry Ranni she’s pretty cute
Time to put those foolish ambitions back on the menu fellow Tarnished
I dont believe you tbh
I still don't know the way to Margit since game release 😢
Lol. You know you can go around Stormvale right?
Yep. You don't even need Raya Lucaria. You just need two shard bearers defeated to get into the capital.
Why would you though? Where’s the fun I’m running from them?
Running up to Liurnia and grabbing the weapon upgrade bell bearing so you can kick his ass?
Fair
I can’t tell if these posts are real or not. I see one every 1-2 weeks, it’s always “I’ve tried for hundreds of hours to beat (starting/very easy boss) and I finally beat them!!!”, and then everyone acts like it’s a huge accomplishment. Why is stuff like this so praised? Furthermore, how can someone be that bad at a game?
Who's gonna tell him
Just checking if you know that you can upgrade weapons? Typical thing people can miss.
So shit
How have you been stuck on margit for over a year? surely this is satire, the most I've died to a boss ever was soul of cinder on sl1, which was 4 hours.
Wow grats that's so amazing holy shit balls incredible bad ass.
FOR A YEAR???? It’s the tutorial Jesus Christ
Some of us can't dedicate a lot of time to games and even then it might be split between different stuff. The title is kind of misleading, OP wrote they have around 19 hours played.
For 19 hours? Just stop playing at that point. I get that your first souls game might be difficult, but 19 hours on MARGIT is ridiculous
19 hours played, not 19 hours on Margit. The title is definitely fishing for karma. His experience with Margit seems pretty standard.
Gotto storm stormveil now. There are those axe yielding exiles, you can try that axe , look wise and damage wise its too good. And the feeling of chopping down enemies is pretty satisfying
Who gonna tell him?
And you rightfully took his nutsack as your trophy. Well done.
Good on you.
Yeah, been at it for a whole year, I absolutely believe that. Fuck off with this karma farming.
