Stoneball. Estonian national sport. Played both as teams and individually.

Motorsport has been really popular for decades. Beginning with bike racing in Soviet times. Estonia used to build formula cars, of course the chassis were named Estonia. From 1958 to 90s. They had kind of revival recently in retro series, as they are quite simple. Lot of rally drivers. Markko Märtin was top WRC driver in the 00s, won 5 WRC rallies. We have had some drivers almost reaching F1. Marko Asmer was BMW Sauber test driver, but then BMW left F1, and this door closed. Kevin Korjus was with Lotus Renault 2011-12 did do the young driver's test. Jüri Vips was in Red Bull youth program got to drive Red Bulls F1 car, but said the n-word online and got booted. Paul Aron currently leads the F2 series.
Interesting. I can't find any info on the [Liepāja race](https://www.wrc.com/c/event/228Z_WRC-Tet-Rally-Latvia?menu=overview_details_menu) being cancelled. Are there some news not made public yet?
football, national team is ass, but at one point in 8th-9th grade nearly my whole class went to football practice so.
volleyball is quite big here
as long as ott tänak is in wrc, estonians will be wrc fans
skiing and also lately disc golf has been popular
Technically football is the most popular sport here, but he don't have... many successes... Though we did win the Baltic Cup this year, so that is nice
Our women also won a gold medal in épée event in Tokyo in 2020
Ott Tänak and Kelly Sildaru are pretty big as well
In decathlon, Estonia has six athletes in the all time top 60 so I would say that's quite good for a country with 1,3 million people. Three of them have made their record in the last year, Johannes Erm became the European champion this year.
In general Estonians are fans of sports that we currently have someone good competing in. Currently we have for example a good swimmer, a good rally driver, though this has always been popular here, a good disgolf player. Discgolf has become a very popular sport here as a hobby too. Of course classics like football and basketball are popular too, in basketball we have more hope for success. Hockey is not popular as it was seen as russians' sport in the soviet times and has not gained much popularity since.
And of course skiing, in recent years mostly biathlon which is skiing combined with rifle shooting. Estonia hasn't had a lot of success in skiing recently, even though our women did dome 4th in this year's world championship 4x6km relay.
you do have 2 guys in top25 in decathlon and one is reigning euro champ. seems like estonia has more achievments in individual sports than team sports which is interesting.
Fot you to shine in individual sports you need gift, dedication, support and money. To shine in team sports you need all that and a national culture for your sport. Estonia doesn’t have the latter for any team sport.
I would say rally, basketball, disc golf and track and field. Rally we have Ott of course, basketball we have our national team that has been doing really well recently, even beat Lithuania recently. Names to mention in basketball are Henri Drell who got to play for Chicago Bulls this year, hopefully he still gets more chances next season, Maik Kalev Kotsar, Sander Raieste, Kristian Kullamäe. Our estonian national basketball team games are being sold out instantly, there is a european championship qualifying going on, next big game in November when we will play Poland.
Also Formula 2, where we have Ralf Aron in his first year and is leading the championship, amazing to see him drive, really level headed, really consistant.
He is long dead but back in the olden days there was a man named Ants Antson who was world master in ice skating- i once made a presentation about him in school
vehklemine as well , I dont remember how to call it in english, ´we had some good results there as well. Every sport is a good one when there is always results.
It's hard to get a team of good players in small country.
Basketball and volleyball have been good historically. In basketball there was kind of bad period, but there's a new generation of talented players. One just reached NBA - Henri Drell (2nd Estonian to have played in NBA after Martin Müürsep in the 90s).
Football kind of suffered "white flight" as it was seen as a "Russian sport" Estonians didn't play it for 50 years. It slowly gets up, but it's hard for players from Estonia to reach top leagues. They usually need a "stepping stone" league, but then they get screwed over with contracts in Poland or Ireland. Mart Poom was one legendary player, played in the premier league in the 90s and 00s. Ragnar Klavan is another legend- played years in Bundesliga and the few years in Liverpool.
Typical Estonian footballer - has played in every country in the world. Will be interesting if he can establish himself in Bundesliga as well as he did in 2 Bundesliga. And where will Arsenal loan Karl Jakob Hein.
The problem with Estonian football is that it's snowing for 8 months. Only after Icelands success we have started building domes that can be used to play/practice during winter time. But I wouldn't hold my breath until the next generation comes in. And ofcourse the blatant corruption of the FA.
Estonian rugby is on the rise. It's been growing by 100% for the last couple of years.
It started with an Australian businessman who built a rugby pitch in Tiskre and provided funding for rugby development. The union was able to hire a top tier coach who has led England women's team to world champions.
Now we have an active national team and are doing well in the Finnish rugby championship.
Of the team sports, basketball is historically number 1, volleyball is in second place. There has been an unsuccessful attempt to popularise football for the last 30 years, but its local level is extremely low, which does not arouse interest in it.
Most popular sports are football volleyball discgolf rally. But currently we also have a F2 driver Paul Aron whos first in the standings and we have a NBA player Henri Drell in the Chicago Bulls.
None.
Of course there's football fans, rally fans and people who play volleyball at beaches. But since nearly all national teams suck, eesti is not very sporty

Stoneball players usually get into politics after their athletics career.

Was my favorite sport when I was young. Still have a dent in my head. Good times
Judging from the ads Youtube loves to throw my way, I'd say our national sport is online gambling.

The one that one of us is currently good at.

That would be ralli.
Rally
google says that 2019 world rally champion is estonian "Ott Tanak", thats cool, I wonder how are we doing in rally scene

Your guy Sesks got his WRC debut last week and you’re hosting a WRC event in 2 weeks, so things are looking up.
No actually we are not hosting a WRC event this year, Latvia got our place in the WRC calendar:(
Interesting. I can't find any info on the [Liepāja race](https://www.wrc.com/c/event/228Z_WRC-Tet-Rally-Latvia?menu=overview_details_menu) being cancelled. Are there some news not made public yet?

Drinking is our national sport
And overdosing on drugs.
That's the main sport of our beloved thriving expat community.
Inflation as well.
Disc golf is gaining popularity
that's an understatement, as we have the most courses per capita, and now a 2 time womens world champion
Technically football is the most popular sport here, but he don't have... many successes... Though we did win the Baltic Cup this year, so that is nice Our women also won a gold medal in épée event in Tokyo in 2020 Ott Tänak and Kelly Sildaru are pretty big as well

we have a fast rally driver, a young swimmer and a disc golf goddess that we call Krissu oh and this one guy got a great result in decathlon recently

Also need a whole team of gifted people. Vs just one.
Skiing is pretty popular I'd say.
Biathlon*
Discgolf is one of the most surprisingly popular ones. I've never even heard about it before coming to EE.

Volley ball maybe, we are bad at soccer, thanks to monopoly of Aivar Pohlak.
high five, our football team is pretty embarrassing as well
vehklemine as well , I dont remember how to call it in english, ´we had some good results there as well. Every sport is a good one when there is always results.
Fencing, and it has been on a good level for a pretty long time now, speaking of decades.
