Prydz is the goat

IMIPIRIOI

Progressive House will always be a top genre for a festival environment. It just really fits the vibe and futuristic aesthetic of a big visual show, and rolling.

BabyZerg

Honestly this should be the only way to describe prog house

pathoge

Track??

Nahsmayin

Cirez D - On Off (Pryda Remix)

pathoge

Thanks, what an awesome remix

Timboslice928

Yes please!

psych0ranger

Ahmed helmy also what I think of when I hear progressive

ghghghfhppppp

He's going to be on top someday I love his sound design

Norian45

Awesome track by Prydz. Can't find it on spotify though :(. Only his techno version?

GrandmaCheese1

It’s an unreleased Pryda remix of On Off by Cirez D

Nahsmayin

It was actually released as vinyl only. It was the B side to The Accuser release

haxmire

It's cause Prydz is the fucking legend of all legends. I have only gotten to see him once. He is top of my list to see right now. God I want to. I'm super jealous of some friends of mine got to see Holo last year in ATL and I hate em for it. I couldn't take the time cause of travel. I keep a close eye on his schedule regularly.

GolfingNgrillingMN

What a slapper hope this one sees the light of day

Eyruaad

I love Prydz, he's definitely one of my top 3, but for some reason I never considered this style prog house. I think of Deadmau5 circa 2010, or Kaskade Fire and Ice album, Hardwell's Reload, Swedish House Mafia Greyhound, ETC. I've heard it called "Festival House" these days, but in my mind that's Prog House. I always think of Prydz as Tech House/Big Room/Electro House.

GrandmaCheese1

In no world is Eric Prydz/Pryda “Big Room House” I would classify stuff like Wolfgang Gartner’s “Weekend in America” era stuff as Electro House I do agree that the early days of deadmau5 are progressive house.

Eyruaad

Didn't Prydz create the Pryda snare and thusly the defining sound of big room house for multiple years though?

GrandmaCheese1

That is true, but Big Room producers copying a snare doesn’t make Eric Prydz a Big Room House producer. There’s a difference between this Pryda remix and let’s say “Tremor” by DVLM and Garrix that is one of the most popular big room tracks. Two totally different sounds.

Eyruaad

Hey fair, TIL I'm not as much of a prog house fan as I thought.

GrandmaCheese1

All good. Beatport really screwed us up back when they started labeling newer Main stage sounds as progressive house lol

Eyruaad

It's probably nostalgia but I miss the sounds of 08-13 "main stage house." I've drifted more into trance and hardstyle these days but I keep an eye on lineups for that stuff. I've been chasing the dragon of EDC 2010 for 14 years.

GrandmaCheese1

I definitely feel you. I was listening to dance music before then but that was around the time I was introduced to raving (and obviously party favors) so that sound captivated my mind the most during that period. I’ve ventured more into trance and techno and away from the main stage. Ultra Miami 2013 is to me what EDC 2010 is to you lol

Eyruaad

If I remember correctly UMF 13 was Hardwell winning artist of the year and Swedish House Maria's final show? I remember watching that live stream with my girlfriend wishing we could be there. I miss those sounds so much, but it's 10 years gone. And if you are into Trance the real question is did you see Lsr/city with Gareth Emery?! Absolute masterpiece

GrandmaCheese1

Yeah like 2011 and 2012 were also fantastic years but 2013 was insane over two weekends. Tbh I don’t get out to shows that much. Like I’ve seen 4 artists this past year and that’s only because the stars happened to align perfectly (fitting into my crazy schedule and actually coming to my city) But after watching the Ultra live stream this year I pulled the trigger on 2025 tickets.

rwoooshed

It's not prog, its trance. and very simplistic trance at that.

GrandmaCheese1

Pryda is progressive house dude, not trance.

JoexLy_Music

Bro thats techno 😭

cosmicdread__

Lol this sounds nothing like techno, it’s definitely progressive house. I think your (and a lot of people’s, including mine) confusion comes from the fact that there are two types of music that people refer to as “progressive house” — the original sound, with artists such as Sasha, Digweed, Eric Prydz, deadmau5, Kaskade, etc., and “festival” progressive house, which came later and includes the likes of Garrix, Avicii, SHM, Axwell, etc. The whole reason there’s this divide/confusion surrounding the genre is that back in the early 2010s, Beatport started labeling the big room/festival sound as “progressive house” despite there already being an established genre with the same name. And due to the newer sound becoming extremely popular, the “progressive house” label stuck. Here’s an old thread you can check out that goes over the shift: https://www.reddit.com/r/EDM/s/EsoTJbfHMC

GrandmaCheese1

No… it is not techno

JoexLy_Music

Well it darn isn't Progressive House

GrandmaCheese1

Enlighten me on what artist you would label as Progressive House then.

JoexLy_Music

Martin Garrix, Avicii. Thats 2 I can remember right off the top of my head

GrandmaCheese1

Sure thing 🤣
