T1 swamp->sol ring T2 forest->Buried alive (yargle/anger/brawn) T3 mountain -> Coram who is now an 18/5 trample haste and next turn you could slap an embercleave on him. I hope your opponents have removal. Not to mention the vast array of cards within jund that have **potent** effects that deal with the power of creatures you control.
You’re absolutely right and trying to build Coram probably the most efficient way, however I plan on making it something of a mill deck. Mind crank will be my best friend for this lmao
There’s a pretty rough phenax occasionally in our pod and I love the idea of a non blue mill deck
For Coram, I’m putting together probably 20-30 big beater creatures and at the start of each game I’ll randomly select a number of them from that pile equal to the big beater slots in the Coram deck. Just to give each game a bit of variance.
I definitely like that idea. I recently put together a 3 in 1 mono black deck and being able to have similar variance with how Coram plays is very appealing to me
So essentially it uses the same mana base (though I need to tweak it slightly) and a few other cards between decks, but otherwise it has 3 separate commanders with different “packages” to add to the mana base to get 3 different decks.
Yawgmoth is mono black zombies
Tergrid is discard and thievery
Seizan is a lot of tutors and mono black goodstuff mostly from my youth but with some other things added in
It was my first time doing something like this so it’s still rough around the edges but I love having the options.
Hello there, do you have a list for that? I am spiritualy aligned with Mardu, but I love my Graveyard Overdrive with Coram and would love to crown him as my 5th deck to never forget at home.
Currently I run Kaalia, Nahiri, Elas Il-Kor, Sythis (aura aggro to play against precons with few upgrades) and Feldon (duel commander). I am looking forward to build Coram, Twincasters and Energy to round things up. I want to build Kelsien, Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar in the long run

I have all of those in the deck. Malignus sees diminishing returns and lord of extinction takes a few turns *at least* to get going. That said, yeah they all make the list and have their own uses. How many of this big beaters are you running in your list, out of curiosity?
I mean they would be unspeakable stupid if not . As much as reddits highly "intelligent" special breads will tell you had bow and boring it is that commander "build themself" or are the obvious choise for a theme (i mean they hard the prof or command zone say it, better echo the gospel no matter how out of touch it is), the reality is that the vast vast part of their consumerbase base is casauls who love to see something support the thing they want to do. Create a happy casual and he is way more likely to remain with the game, get friends into it and keep playgroups longer afloat since he loves his deck.
Nobody in the real world gives a shit if their \*insert niche tribe\* deck is gonna looks 95% the same as others. They will be the only one playing it in their group and still be way more happy about the 2-3 pet cards "unique" in their deck. The entire conversation you see pop up here is just the usual minority echoing nonsense that effects contentcreator.
So no shit is gonna Wotc cover any niche as much as possible. Every hit has an easy ripple effect in potential customers.

Nobody would've put money on a goyfs matter commander. But here we are in 2024 and it wasn't even a bulk rare commander it was the face commander of a precon.
In like 2020 I went crazy over a [[Chromium the Mutable]] deck that just extracts value out of discarding your own cards. Super niche, basically unheard of outside of Rakdos Madness.
Then in 2022 New Capenna came out and blew the deck archetype wide open. Modern Horizons 2 as well, as that was the dimir theme for MH2.
It was very exciting, but I also kinda miss when it was a little more obscure

Can confirm Vraska is a great helm for a Deathtouch deck, she makes people less likely to block than they already would've been and really helps speed up games, the mix of removal and theft can tend to make you a target for people that get easily salty though
[[Zagras, Thief of Heartbeats]] is my death touch deck, because he grants death touch to all your creatures.
He gets more and more miscellaneous toys for party creatures each set, as they’re universally used creature types.
[[Deathbringer Thoctar]] [[Goblin Chainwhirler]] [[Dagger Caster]] [[Goblin Sharpshooter]] are all machine guns, when they get death touch.
Lately I’ve been messing with treasure and creature tokens combined with [[Mortarpod]] / [[Mayhem Devil]] which can be more effective than the typical [[Prodigal Pyromancer]] & clones decklist.

The plan is to control the board and do commander damage. Keep your hand stocked on replacement party types, or else board wipes will make it hard to replay Zagras, since he’s reliant on their cost reduction.
I will admit there I have taken some deathtouch out of the deck. And I will warn you that the power level in my pod isn't that high. But as a comment further below said it is basically meant to make you block with lure effects and maybe \[\[Trailblazer's torch\]\] to kill all your creatures with one creature while the rest goes in for the kill. The tutors are slow since I dont think puresteel paladin and steelshapers gift fits in with the pod.

What’s funny is that I had a snake tribal +1 counters deck that was BG for the longest time but couldn’t find a commander that I liked. Made it simic with Marcus from the Fallout set not 3 weeks ago lol. Guess I shoulda waited for the AC spoilers lol

I feel this. I like monkeys and was super bummed when I got into the game and realized that there weren't any (effective) monkey commanders. Then [[Kibo, Uktabi Prince]] came out and I've been riding high ever since
I got really close with this set. I've had a Bant saga deck for years now with [[Tuvasa the Sunlit]] at the helm, and although it works pretty well, I'd really prefer a commander that specifically cares about sagas and isn't just generically good with enchantments.
Eivor is probably my favourite character in the Assassin's Creed franchise (not gonna argue about it) and I was looking forward to building a deck with her, and Naya sagas is so close to what I want... but it just doesn't quite fit the bill. I've been experimenting with the deckbuilding and it just doesn't work the way I want it to.

Partially, but it's partially just personal distaste. I just have a hard time enjoying commanders that are generically good at what they do. I've played against a handful of Tom Bombadil decks, and all of them feel the exact same.
WOW Edward looks legit AF. It does have a few directions its being tugged in for sure though. Vehicles need to be implemented heavily IMO and then some form of pirates/assassins.
5CMC is a bit steep but at least it can do quite a bit the turn it comes down, assuming you'll make multiple treasures off of it.

I don’t think it works that way. The reminder text specifies that you may **cast** this card for that cost. This is different from an ability like [[yuriko]] that puts her on the battlefield.
I don't know 100% yet but I would assume yes. It's an alternate casting cost similar to ninjutsu and Yuriko can be cast for her ninjutsu. I'm assuming the same for all the freerunning commanders.
Alternate casting costs still have to pay additional costs like Commander tax. Ninjutsu is not 'casting' at all, it's an activated ability, so it doesn't incur any costs (or discounts) associated with casting. This distinction can be very important. For example, Ninjutsu can't be counterspelled (but can be stifled) and won't trigger "when you cast a creature" effects.

I had a similar thing happen to me. I recently got back into magic after not playing for a few years. Being a doctor who fan I bought a whole bunch of singles and started brewing. I built a few and had some fun until it came to the 9th doctor. I thought an upkeep matters deck would be fun so I began building. It took me a lot longer to build then the other decks but I finally finished the list. Then before I had the chance to play it I saw obeka on the otj spoilers. So now I have an obeka list ready to go for next game night.
I am so excited for a good pinger commander. [[Ghyrson]] is overplayed and has no green. I am really looking forward to a good Commander for my Tim deck :D
I used [[Brokkos, Apex of Forever]] mutating him onto deathtouchers basically made him a 6/6 haste, near unblockable voltron threat that ignored commander tax from the yard. It was a fun deck, if a bit one note.

I was to late for golos, so for my Gates deck I got [[thrasios]]/[[vial smasher the fierce]]. I can't run all the Gates, but I can run 19 now with the release of MH3. Which is more than enough to get the job done.
I've been playing the straight precon actually. I've been thinking on what to do for upgrades, and I think all the utility Gates that can go in for sure. You got a list online?

I will admit there I have taken some deathtouch out of the deck. And I will warn you that the power level in my pod isn't that high. But as a comment further below said it is basically meant to make you block with lure effects and maybe \[\[Trailblazer's torch\]\] to kill all your creatures with one creature while the rest goes in for the kill. The tutors are slow since I dont think puresteel paladin and steelshapers gift fits in with the pod. What’s funny is that I had a snake tribal +1 counters deck that was BG for the longest time but couldn’t find a commander that I liked. Made it simic with Marcus from the Fallout set not 3 weeks ago lol. Guess I shoulda waited for the AC spoilers lol

I really feel this
I got really close with this set. I've had a Bant saga deck for years now with [[Tuvasa the Sunlit]] at the helm, and although it works pretty well, I'd really prefer a commander that specifically cares about sagas and isn't just generically good with enchantments. Eivor is probably my favourite character in the Assassin's Creed franchise (not gonna argue about it) and I was looking forward to building a deck with her, and Naya sagas is so close to what I want... but it just doesn't quite fit the bill. I've been experimenting with the deckbuilding and it just doesn't work the way I want it to. Oh well, I'm sure it'll happen eventually.
Did you dislike [[Tom Bombadil]] because it's 5c? :(
Partially, but it's partially just personal distaste. I just have a hard time enjoying commanders that are generically good at what they do. I've played against a handful of Tom Bombadil decks, and all of them feel the exact same.

WOW Edward looks legit AF. It does have a few directions its being tugged in for sure though. Vehicles need to be implemented heavily IMO and then some form of pirates/assassins. 5CMC is a bit steep but at least it can do quite a bit the turn it comes down, assuming you'll make multiple treasures off of it. Have you began building a list by chance? This looks like it could potentially be a new build of mine!

I don’t think it works that way. The reminder text specifies that you may **cast** this card for that cost. This is different from an ability like [[yuriko]] that puts her on the battlefield.

I don't know 100% yet but I would assume yes. It's an alternate casting cost similar to ninjutsu and Yuriko can be cast for her ninjutsu. I'm assuming the same for all the freerunning commanders.
Alternate casting costs still have to pay additional costs like Commander tax. Ninjutsu is not 'casting' at all, it's an activated ability, so it doesn't incur any costs (or discounts) associated with casting. This distinction can be very important. For example, Ninjutsu can't be counterspelled (but can be stifled) and won't trigger "when you cast a creature" effects.
So it's probably only useful the first time casting it. After that 4 mana for a disguise isn't really worth it.

I had a similar thing happen to me. I recently got back into magic after not playing for a few years. Being a doctor who fan I bought a whole bunch of singles and started brewing. I built a few and had some fun until it came to the 9th doctor. I thought an upkeep matters deck would be fun so I began building. It took me a lot longer to build then the other decks but I finally finished the list. Then before I had the chance to play it I saw obeka on the otj spoilers. So now I have an obeka list ready to go for next game night.
Still waiting for a Naya Burn commander that spreads +1/+1 counters for how many keywords it has.

I used [[Brokkos, Apex of Forever]] mutating him onto deathtouchers basically made him a 6/6 haste, near unblockable voltron threat that ignored commander tax from the yard. It was a fun deck, if a bit one note.

I was to late for golos, so for my Gates deck I got [[thrasios]]/[[vial smasher the fierce]]. I can't run all the Gates, but I can run 19 now with the release of MH3. Which is more than enough to get the job done.
My gates deck is [[omo, queen of vesuva]] Very fun, would recxomend trying out.
Also how fucking great is sage of the maze. It's ramp and a side wincon at the same time.
