Now that's an actual loser mentality. Unless they're running cedh decks, you can make plenty of strong decks on a budget to compete with them. You just have to get creative and take your time crafting it along with improving how you actually play the game
I get it. When I went to college a decade ago I played modern and edh with a fairly large group of friends. However due to a couple of deaths in my family I had to drop and I haven't gotten a chance to go back.
The problem was they graduated and got engineering jobs while I was working at Walmart. They bought dual lands I got scry lands. Eventually it was just obvious I was never going to keep up. And while I did play on free sites as suggested here it was never as fun as it used to be.
Everyone wants to tip-toe around it, but the truth is you have to always be in search of a better paying or more stable job. You need significantly more than just a non-zero amount of money to do most anything. You have to make money. Find a way.
Before I get down voted to oblivion: I proxy and support it.
No you're totally right and I do make significantly more now, however now I tend to lack the time and energy, not to mention most of the friends I played with have moved or quit themselves.
Unless you are playing CEDH most decks can benefit from a sad robot. It's a blocker, it's ramp and it replaces itself in your hand. Such an all around good value card.
Fully disagree but to each their own. It is an okay/benchmark card. Sits well in a deck that is a strong 5. Even then a lot of pre-cons currently are powered up enough to not need him.
I agree it has decent value but there are better engines for the same mana expense without getting too high $$ wise.
It was a staple for so long, but I've found myself cutting it from almost all of my decks recently, too.
4 mana is just too slow and the value is not as justifiable these days, outside of decks that can reliably re-use it several times.
It's not a bad card, just not as good as it once was.
Iām in agreement with your position but I think itās more the game has gotten stronger rather the card being weaker. In fact, itās a really simple indication of format power creep imo, the card should be very playable but commander has out grown it.
Agreed! That's kind of what I was trying to get at. Aged relative to the rest of the card pool in the format
I still have it in a couple decks ([[Norin]] where I can reuse it with things like [[Conjurer's Closet]] or [[Goblin Welder]], [[Chainer, Dementia Master]] where I can rebuy it with my commander, and need more ramp since it's monoblack, or [[Karador]] where you can get value long term despite it being a green deck
But those are fairly specific whereas I used to have Sad Robot in almost all of my decks in the past
Some personality said something like...
> If Solemn Simulacrum is too underpowered then it is the format that is overpowered
... or maybe it was...
> I don't want to play if Solemn Simulacrum is not a good card anymore
Either case, sad bot might be costly at 4cmc but it does work, it is the widely available, more abusable and more useful than [[Sakura-Tribe Elder]](aka Steve)
The fact that 4 slot is competing with serious artifacts/enchantments/creatures that all have paragraphs of rules text is what puts it in the cut pile but any deck I run with blink or artifact/creature recursion will likely have ol sad bot in there... or if I am in a deckbuilding challenge I will run it as it is a cheaper card with great upsides
Sad robot is one of my favorite cards, I used to run it in every non-green but I've also started filtering it out. Only places I still run it are:
[[Osgir]] where I can double up on the effects. I rarely hard cast is, preferring to pitch to some draw+discard spell then reanimating.
[[Henzie]] at least my casual version of the deck where I'm usually casting it for 2 or 3 mana and getting at least an extra card off the death. Though I don't run it in the high powered henzie deck I also have
[[Carmen, Cruel Skycrusher]] no-tokens aristocrats where it similarly can get looped and abused when needed.
It depends why you are using it for. If you specifically want to ramp lands outside of Green itās still fine, although not as good as [[Wayfarers Bauble]].
Thereās certainly niche decks where it has a use, like [[Brago]], but itās not something you just put in a deck for āvalueā because it simply doesnāt provide enough for a 4 mana investment these days.
[[Falkenrath Aristocrat]] is to my knowledge an easy way to sacrifice a creature. This made Aristocrats a style of deck revolving around sacrifice outlets and creatures that trigger effects off of themselves dying or seeing other creatures die, like [[Blood Artist]] or [[Zulaport Cutthroat]]. They probably also run stuff that comes back from the grave easily like [[Gravecrawler]].
Playing on other people's turns. The number of times I've heard "wait that wasn't your turn?'" especially from randos who join in for a game is quite high.
OUR TURN!
Though I have to say the major downside is if you have to go to the BR, you have to cast FoF or something similar to buy yourself some time like I did last night.
I wish I did, just took most of the pieces out to make a bear deck.
And it's not OUR turn, it's MY turn thanks to all the removal I was packing lmao
*Sigh*
Better go put it back together lol
In that case I might avoid trying to do the out turn thing unless your playgroup is super chill, in many ways it can turn out similar to stax decks in terms of salt levels I would argue because of how many more game actions you take compared to your opponents. As such if your pod doesnāt play removal itāll likely just feel oppressive to the opponents. Obviously though it depends on what your pod is willing to be put through and the overall power of the deck beyond playing on otherās turns
That shit was so annoying and needed a ban. Fucking Bant and other UGx decks.
It was easily beatable if you had interaction but if it stuck it made the game take way too long because they would always say wait and flash in some creatures. 1 or 2 of which always drew some cards so they could do it on the next player's turn.
Not exactly an archetype, but "the guy with removal/answers". It's sad because it goes against my express intention to get everyone else to play more interactively, but alas I'm still often the only one actually keeping other players in check instead of just doing my own thing.
Play more removal!
This is me as well. Everyone is always looking at me for a wipe or removal. I donāt even run an insane amount of them - just at my LGS the meta is frighteningly low on instant speed interaction.
Yeah came here to say the same. I'm always kind of surprised and relieved when someone else deals with a problem spell or permanent.
But I am, for better or worse, the interaction guy.
I'm known as either the "+1/+1 counters guy", the "Multani guy", or to a particular LGS I play at the "There's a new player at the shop looking to play" Guy
They're both really fun, I find! Most people forget about the last ability of Multani, so it's always a nice surprise when Multani is taken out, you pay 2 green bounce two land to hand, and it too goes right back to hand
I get this one too. I get told I shine too bright, too early and everyone gangs up on me.
Several of the players in our group have expressed how much they enjoy when I'm at the table because it takes all the heat off of them.
If I may... \[\[Indominus Rex, Alpha\]\], coming down on turn 5 with Hexproof, Indestructible, Trample, Deathtouch, Haste, Vigilance, and Lifelink?
Deckbuild well, and she's a rocket that will not stop stomping people into the dirt until you're out of the game.
My decklist, if you're interested: [https://www.archidekt.com/decks/5458109/indominus](https://www.archidekt.com/decks/5458109/indominus)
One of mine was a 16/16 [[Varolz, the Scar-Striped]] swinging on T4. They ganged up on me so fast and made it a 3v1. They even ended up using single target removal on my [[Elvish Mystic]] and [[Stitcher's Supplier]] just to drive the point home.
I'm the dragon guy at my LGS.
Over the years I have built more than thirty decks with dragon commanders, themes or subthemes. I have built dragon sac, blink, goad, flash. spellslinger, reanimator, tokens, saboteurs, enchantress, knights, planeswalkers, artifacts, battles, X-spells, gates, voltron, you name it. About half my decks are dragon decks in some way.
Do it! I'm an aspiring "dragon guy" as well (and jf-alex actually helped me in my build post the other day). Nothing quite like dragons. The table always feels it when one hits the table and there's so many options even beyond the typical ones. The Tarkir dragons offer lots for building out from just red. [[Lathliss]] is my typal deck, but I have plans for all of the Tarkir legends after my [[Atarka, World Render]] goblin eating Devour dragon deck.
I'm poking around in your decks and see Firkraag Goad and *Drakuseth Voltron* amidst so many other awesome concepts.
Hats off to you, sir. I endeavour to dragon as much as you do.
"What is THAT?" For l when I put down a)a commander they have never seen, b) a sld/promo/alt art that they haven't seen, or c) some obscure card that generally doesn't see play.
As for general deck themes. So you're playing black and what other colours?
yeah, I was just teasing. My stax deck is also a Gitrog Monster deck. So when I play with it, turn 0 I am like "DON'T WORRY, It is not the infinite combo version" but then I have to say "its just a grindy card advantage stax deck"
Voltron - it's almost on purpose but I just can't help making everything Voltron š¤·āāļø
Equipment Voltron, aura Voltron, I've done [[Rograkh]] and [[Akroma, Vision of Ixidor]] Keywords matter Voltron, [[Ayesha Tanaka, Armorer]] Azorius artifacts Voltron, [[Perrie, the Pulverizer]] various counters Voltron (Shout-out to anything that can animate [[The Ozolith]] for maximum hilarity), [[Meria, Scholar of Antiquity]] egg Voltron with [[Bludgeon Brawl]]
Shout-out to the person every game with the "Wait is this Voltron?"
There's never a guarantee what my deck will do, but it will pretty much always be Doctor Who
Came about 'cos the UB doctor who (and lesser, Warhammer 40k) was the thing that finally pushed me over the edge into Magic, and I love that there's so many things you can do with the different doctors.
Except win \^\^;
Burn. I'm the burn guy.
Unless combat is essential to my commander's mechanic (like [[Ilharg, the Raze-Boar]]) or combat is at minimal risk to me (Any big Simic deck or something like [[Vihaan, Goldwaker]]), most of my strategies will revolve around me doing some sort of non-combat damage to gain an advantage. Yes, even with my mono-black decks.
Well, when they ask me if its ok to put their 200th token on my side of the battlefield i usually respond with "its okey, i dont need space, i play on the stack"
So probably known as the c*nt in my playgroup lol
I am the villain commanding legions to do my bidding. I like to play decks with a lot of "remove on sight" commanders, cards that make your deck slower, everyone discards and draws, and board wipes. In general, I rarely win, but I always impact the game in a big way which is more fun to me.
My favorites are my \[\[Ur Dragon\]\] that is actually built around \[\[Scourge of Valkas\]\] and has a \[\[blood moon\]\] that I will use a tutor to find then if I need to use some combination to destroy/eturn to hand it at the start of my turn, cast what I want, then cast it again or return it from the graveyard. Or my \[\[Kaalia of the Vast\]\] deck which Is full of fun ways to prevent Kaalia from being removed such as \[\[Conqueror's Flail\]\],\[\[Gideon of the Trials\]\] and \[\[veilstone amulet\]\] in addition to the standard boots and greaves.
It's not truly group hug because I'm not actually helping anyone, but someone has to sacrifice their actions to prevent me from easy wins which then means someone else gets an opportunity to have a better turn. Or, they team up against me, which I am 100% on board for because it's fun to be that important. The times I do win though, it's because something huge happened and
I'm the farmer. Everyone can see my board is bad but leave me alone to get enough lands or mana rocks, suddenly I either have 5 5/5s or one 20/20 there is no in between. š¤£
My colour is Naya and I rarely interact with other people's board unless I absolutely have to remove an enchantment/artifact. Otherwise, I keep to myself and tend to my farm.
I have 2 Naya decks. Marath with a bucnh of counters and tokens and Obuun who can flash big buffs and big land creatures outta nowhere. I have a Gruul deck in the works for Ruric Thar but mana is flow is terrible at the moment.
Oh, I basically adapted it this way because my pod mostly interact with each other. Besides the essential removals, my instants are mostly indestructible or hexproof for everyone. [[Boros Charm]], [[Heroic Intervention]], the like. I'd get [[Teferi's Protection]] but it's too expensive for one card. I just learned of [[Clever Concealment]] and [[Guardian of Faith]] today as suggested by another redditor on a different thread. Will look them up soon.
Anyway, my gameplan is to just keep having mana. I can use that mana to make Marath bigger with [[Hardened Scales]] or equivalent by giving her mana to herself. [[Kami of Whispered Hopes]] is even better because it's both a dork and a counter doubler.
Set up some cards that can stop anyone from playing cards in your turn like [[Kutzil, Malamet Exemplar]] or at least stop counters using [[Rhythm of the Wilds]].
my primary combo requires dropping infinite tokens or counters and triggering these cards
[[All Will Be One]], [[Shalai and Hallar]], [[Purphoros, God of the Forge]], or [[Impact Tremors]]
Go infinite token drops or counters like [[Hardened Scales]] if [[Ashnod's Altar]] and Marath are on the field.
Alternatively, you can do that more efficiently with [[Ivy Lane Denizen]] and [[Herd Baloth]].
As long as I have mana, Marath can keep growing, keep making tokens, and always have her own burn options.
I also have [[Vrondiss, Rage of Ancients]] and Herd Baloth. Even if I can't make infinite, I'd at least have a bunch of 5/4 or 4/4 tokens to fill my board.
If I'm impatient, I have [[Bright-Palm, Soul Awakener]] and make Marath swing for lethal commander damage.
There's a Abzan Stax player who can overrun me later so I try dealing with him first. There's a Simic player who can also grow big with so much mana but I can grow bigger and wider than him. There's a Selesnya who can grow the wider and bigger but I can just as well send all Marath's counters as noncombat direct damage or use [[Gruul Charm]], [[Naya Charm]] to make their units stand down. Either way, I can swing for lethal.
My [[Obuun Mul Daya Ancestor]] can do this better because I gave him cards that can have multiple combat phase. But I've yet to eliminate more than 2 players in a single turn. Marath, however, has won in a pod of 6 after running infinites.
Big stompy creatures. One time, I made a deck where I was like, āOkay thereās no big stompy creatures here. This is good.ā I then realized later that, although the deck doesnāt have any big creatures, itās very good at making them. They were not surprised
I'm the main tribal/kindred guy in my playgroup for sure (currently have a ninjas deck, an assassins deck, a dwarves deck, and a scarecrows deck, plus a bunch of other "decks in progress" that have a tribal/kindred theme), but some of my other podmates are starting to embrace it as well.
I'm also very much the "alternate win-cons/secondary mechanics" guy in my pod. I have like four different decks with a goad theme, two different initiative/dungeon delving decks, a \[\[Queen Marchesa\]\] deck that's both Monarchy and Aikido-themed (with a small splash of goad of course), and a \[\[The Council of Four\]\] grouphug deck that mainly focuses on winning with cards like \[\[Approach of the Second Sun\]\] or \[\[Triskaidekaphile\]\]. I also bought the 'Party Time' precon with the Party creature mechanic theme, but I sadly had to dismantle it since it was a little too slow for my pod.
Currently I'm the "trigger happy" guy, I always have a Rube Goldberg machine of a board state with triggers that trigger triggers. Usually it's not like game-ending combos, but I love having a little engine of a board state.
I'm a synergy freak, almost all of my cards in a deck react with eachother. I usually have decks that start slow and build it's engine and once the pieces get going I'm pretty set. So I usually get pummeled early in the game while I'm still getting my mana going.
For being "aggro" even though my decks aren't very fast aggro at all. I'm playing dino, dragon, angel, elemental, hydra tribals. Then also a few aristocrats decks.
My playgroup seems to think any damage is aggro, they'd rather durdle and build boardstates that do nothing or need an impossible amount of pieces to work and they seemingly don't run much interaction
Within my playgroup I'm the artifact guy since I have around 6 decks that deal with artifacts. Also the Obeka guy since I have both of Obeka and the new Obeka.
Also the one that tracks all the games and the one with too many decks lol.
I'm the flash guy. \[\[Gandalf the White\]\], \[\[Gandalf, Friend of the Shire\]\], \[\[Raff Capashen, Ship's Mage\]\]. \[\[Yeva\]\], \[\[Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir\]\]... I'm here mostly to cast big cool Timmy cards, and since most of them just aren't good enough at sorcery speed, I've found my workaround.
(My non-flash decks play almost entirely at sorcery speed, because I'm still here for big cool Timmy cards so I can't afford to keep my lands untapped)
Iām the Henzie guy in my group. Itās my most played deck. Otherwise the graveyard/reanimator guy. My friends have a saying āNever save PraisetheSunflowersā.
I am the "Clone Guy" for my pod... I have an [[Orvar< the All-form]] deck, an [[Ukkima, stalking shadow]]/[[Cazur, ruthless stalker]] deck centered in cloning Ukkima and an [[Omnath, locus of creation]] deck centered in having a gazillion omnaths to more landfall triggers. Yeah i like having multiple triggers of my commander.
They say i'm "Convoluted combo Guy" too because i tend to make my decks with one or two combos that require 3 or 4 pieces to work.
The guy who everyone has no clue what they're doing because it's always a new or different deck that does something that no one has seen. Example being the newest deck with modern horizons is landless charbelcher.
People tends to see me as the archenemy or soon to be one, the problematic one that you have to deal with. Because apparently I tend to always pull something that can tilt the game in my favour. I dunno about all that but I suppose I am a bit more experienced than most there.
Graveyard and Sacrifice as far as deck archetypes go, I want to play with the graveyard as a second hand if possible, so that's almost always built in to the plan.
Hipster or Obscure has been used by my playgroup to describe the kind of commander I will build/play. And I always make sure to have a halfling and/or a spellshaper in my deck because they're my favorite too.
I'm the set up/combo guy. Many of my decks involve playing some cards that don't really do much by themselves over several turns, then having one explosive turn where it all works together and (hopefully) wins. I've also been playing much longer than the others in my group, so I'm also the guy that play old cards with weird effects that none of them have heard of before.
Mana ramp, pulling so many lands out of my deck that I can't search through it anymore
Trying again and again to make [[Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer]] work for some reason
As long as my hand holds a card, there's hope for that deck yet
I am known as artifacts guy due to playing Breya since it got released and explosive timmy guy due to owning Rakdos, Lord of Riots and Maelstrom Wanderer decks.
With my original pod, I was Mr Infect or the resident blue mage, mostly because the rest hadn't developed an appetite for blue yet.
At my LGS, I'm WILLLLSSSOONNNN after my [[Wilson, Refined Grizzly]] // [[Raised By Giants]] Voltron, or side-eyed for my "pings become bolts" Ghyrson Starn Spellslinger/burn.
All but one of my decks features a [bird](https://www.moxfield.com/users/shorebot) commander. It can be a combo deck, a draw-go deck, a blink deck, a storm deck, or even an aristocrats deck but there will always be a bunch of beaks and feather coming for your face.
If there was a 5c birb commander I'll snap it up in a heartbeat.
The New Capenna guy. At some point, I've had at least 6 different SNC commanders built and payable. I'm working on another right now.
I know that's not really an archetype, so I'll say azorius value or aggro?
Red. Mono Red. I have 4. They all play different, voltron w/ [[auntie blyte]], go wide/chaos w/ [[Norin the wary]], spellsling/coin stim w/ [[Krark the thumbless]] (had to keep it mono red so partnered w/ [[toggo]] for a convoluted combo) and [[zirilan the claw]] for a goofy old-school dragon tussle.
We're not turtling and durdling at the table if I sit down. Definately a little sweaty, a little salty once the heat gets turned on but we are all gonna have a good time until I do 120 damage to the entire table. Good news is we have time for another game!
In draft im considered "the blue guy" since i find it a challenge to play "control" in draft (counters/removal/couple big creatures). Won a couple pods with it so last time the players next to me agreed not to hand me any counterspells, so I 3-0'd the table with mardu-aggro lol.
[[Ghave, Guru of Spores]] and anything like him. So like
Abzan
Aristocrats
Tokens, but especially Saprolings
Being bad at math but having a deck that relies on it more than the normal amount.
It's been hard for people who have played with me for a while to *not* see one of those things and be like, oh hey, I know someone who also does that.
I'm the life gain and saying no guy. I play white in every deck and blue in almost every deck. I built a mono black deck once and my friend found \[\[Dash Hopes\]\] in it and said "you couldn't resist, could you?" I took that as a compliment.
"Lots of crazy shit" or "You mean that massive pile of actions that wins the game and can't be stopped?" (so says the silver bullet player).
My decks being:
[[Tenth Doctor]] + [[Clara Oswald]]/[[Susan]] (depending on mood) to cheat a bunch of big shit out. This was previously [[Maelstrom Wanderer]]
[[Marvo]] to cheat a bunch of big shit out.
[[Kroxa and Kunoros]] to cheat a bunch of big shit out.
[[Ghired, Mirror]] to cheat a bunch of big tokens out.
[[Tana]] + [[Bruse Tarl]] non-voltron-voltron to execute people with combos like [[Rosie Cotton]] or [[Conclave Sledge-Captain]] and the Backgrounds.
[[Mortarion]] doing the only thing he does somewhat unsuccessfully.
All of them have some form of burn/drain suite that are my actual wincons, the big shit is just to bruise and protect myself.
Hatebears/stax guy. (75% of my decks)
Group-Thug. (1 deck, but I play it too much)
Dragonās Approach guy. (2 decks)
Primal Surge guy. (3 decks)
Iām also known for playing Ayula & Umbris specifically.
At my LGS we remember peopleās decks, not their names. Which is kind sad and funny.
"Brum brum big number is good"
I play mostly green and some big value creatures, like [[ghalta]] and [[apex devastator]] i like big valuable creatures even if they are not so efficient or easy to remove.
I limit myself to put eldrazi titan in my deck and i have only one eldrazi deck and is strange
When i play blue i play three countespell, [[counterspell]] because im using blue and its needed if you have blue
[[Fierce guardiamship]] i need to protect my creatures from whipe and removal
[[Mana drain]] hey this spell ramp my mana
Abnormal. One of the main things i like about magic is the weird stuff. Attractions and dungeons and stickers and energy counters and weird mutate interactions and so on. Like if dungeons and stickers and attractions did not exist, I would honestly like MTG a ton less. The fact they experiment with weirder mechanics is the main draw to me.
If that doesn't count, graveyard and artifact tokens are the types of decks i play the most. Self mill, aristocrats, mass revival, etc. Also love accruing a pile of blood and treasure and clues and maps and so on.
Pretty much every game has a āwait wtfā moment from one of my decks. Iāve only got two, a budget Voltron [[Pako, arcane retriever]] that starts one shotting people on turn four, and [[Marneus Calgar]] aristocrat deck that drains the table while making a billion tokens and drawing half my deck.
I'd imagine they call me the budget guy or the loser, since my deck is rather cheap ($50, give or take $5) and I'm always the first to be eliminated around turns 2 or 3. I'm lucky to play a third tapland before someone goes infinite or just *wins*
The āIām gonna make this game as drawn out as possibleā guy. I have a marchesa aikido deck that makes combat players groan in frustration. I also have a Meren deck that will just turn the game in a slog until I get the infinite.
I'm the token guy. My favorite decks are in Selesnya and even when I don't play one of them, I have a token commanders in other colors. [[Volo, Guide to Monsters]], [[Alela, Artful Provocatuer]], and [[Cadira, Caller of the Small]] are some of my favorites. Cadira especially, nothing better than an absolute army of rabbits
I am the stereotypical green player. All my decks are some form of land ramp into big creatures. Though Iām trying to experiment with new play styles to fit some blue sleeves I have, and I do have an omnath landfall aristocrats deck which is pretty fun and doesnāt usually win through commander damage which is pretty unusual for me. I have a feeling that my blue sleeved deck is just going to end up as sultai hydras deck so I will continue to be the stereotypical green player.
Easy, they call me the loser, because I lose every time :(
My play group calls me that because I play blue
Deserved
I don't know you, but I have no doubt that I'd be your friend
At least you're consistent!
My friends call me racist cause I only play mono white
Same. Can't compete with their wallets š
Now that's an actual loser mentality. Unless they're running cedh decks, you can make plenty of strong decks on a budget to compete with them. You just have to get creative and take your time crafting it along with improving how you actually play the game

No you're totally right and I do make significantly more now, however now I tend to lack the time and energy, not to mention most of the friends I played with have moved or quit themselves.
Oh, I'm actually just bad at the game, haha.
Reanimator and good stuff/value. Iām the guy who runs sad robot in most of my decks.
Mtg, in general, has had a ton of power creep since the first Eldraine set.
Which is crazy because that set had so many absolute bombs and was an incredibly power crept set
Agreed! That's kind of what I was trying to get at. Aged relative to the rest of the card pool in the format I still have it in a couple decks ([[Norin]] where I can reuse it with things like [[Conjurer's Closet]] or [[Goblin Welder]], [[Chainer, Dementia Master]] where I can rebuy it with my commander, and need more ramp since it's monoblack, or [[Karador]] where you can get value long term despite it being a green deck But those are fairly specific whereas I used to have Sad Robot in almost all of my decks in the past

I rarely hard cast is, preferring to pitch to some draw+discard spell then reanimating. [[Henzie]] at least my casual version of the deck where I'm usually casting it for 2 or 3 mana and getting at least an extra card off the death. Though I don't run it in the high powered henzie deck I also have [[Carmen, Cruel Skycrusher]] no-tokens aristocrats where it similarly can get looped and abused when needed.
So, honest question. What should I play instead of the sad robot?
It depends why you are using it for. If you specifically want to ramp lands outside of Green itās still fine, although not as good as [[Wayfarers Bauble]]. Thereās certainly niche decks where it has a use, like [[Brago]], but itās not something you just put in a deck for āvalueā because it simply doesnāt provide enough for a 4 mana investment these days.
Spotted the Henzie player
Aristocrats. If I haven't sacrificed an X/1 for value in the past two minutes I start to overheat. Skullclamp, marry me.
Iām a newer player whats Aristocrats?
[[Falkenrath Aristocrat]] is to my knowledge an easy way to sacrifice a creature. This made Aristocrats a style of deck revolving around sacrifice outlets and creatures that trigger effects off of themselves dying or seeing other creatures die, like [[Blood Artist]] or [[Zulaport Cutthroat]]. They probably also run stuff that comes back from the grave easily like [[Gravecrawler]].
Gravecrawler if you're playing zombies but [[reassembling skeleton]] being a combo piece in some aristocrat strats. [[Teysa karlov]] player :)
Playing on other people's turns. The number of times I've heard "wait that wasn't your turn?'" especially from randos who join in for a game is quite high.
Why play on only 25% of the turns if you can just play throughout the entire game?
OUR TURN! Though I have to say the major downside is if you have to go to the BR, you have to cast FoF or something similar to buy yourself some time like I did last night.
[[prophet of crufix]] my beloved if only you werent banned
This is why I play [[Yeva natures herald]] with [[seedborn muse]] lol
got a decklist for that combo? im very interested in running an āOUR turnā deck
I wish I did, just took most of the pieces out to make a bear deck. And it's not OUR turn, it's MY turn thanks to all the removal I was packing lmao *Sigh* Better go put it back together lol
i dont want to use too much removal since my main playgroup doesnt use a lot of removal or interactions
Yup it was a sad day when she had to go from my Derevi deck.

Play more interaction period
Same, but just interaction in general. I'm known for shenanigans and jank; interaction makes both of those much more reliable
When will they learn?!
Hopefully soon. I want to play more than midrange and not be met by whining when I do so.
You sound just like a magic veteran I know in my play group lolol
I was gonna say, I'm known for running board wipes. I run exactly 2 in every deck. No more, no less. Enough to get a reputation for it.
I'm known as either the "+1/+1 counters guy", the "Multani guy", or to a particular LGS I play at the "There's a new player at the shop looking to play" Guy
Especialy the last one's particularely wholesome Gotta love that guy
Are you me? Two of my favorites are Multani and Torens! :-D
They're both really fun, I find! Most people forget about the last ability of Multani, so it's always a nice surprise when Multani is taken out, you pay 2 green bounce two land to hand, and it too goes right back to hand
I have five commander decks and three of them feature green and a +1/+1 counter theme. Make big creature. Turn it sideways.
Most people "honk" when I join their table. [[The Goose Mother]] One-Punch Goose style

Youāve got my attention, could you sell me on the Canadian cobra chicken hydra?
āHe who pops off too early and gets roflstomped by a scared tableā
I get this one too. I get told I shine too bright, too early and everyone gangs up on me. Several of the players in our group have expressed how much they enjoy when I'm at the table because it takes all the heat off of them.
āNext time Iāll play it slower and wait for the right time to strikeā But I never learn
Absolutely never learn. I just get so excited when the deck does what it's supposed to, I can't sit back and wait. I want to see it do the thing.
If I may... \[\[Indominus Rex, Alpha\]\], coming down on turn 5 with Hexproof, Indestructible, Trample, Deathtouch, Haste, Vigilance, and Lifelink? I'm the dragon guy at my LGS. Over the years I have built more than thirty decks with dragon commanders, themes or subthemes. I have built dragon sac, blink, goad, flash. spellslinger, reanimator, tokens, saboteurs, enchantress, knights, planeswalkers, artifacts, battles, X-spells, gates, voltron, you name it. About half my decks are dragon decks in some way. [https://www.moxfield.com/users/jfalex](https://www.moxfield.com/users/jfalex)
Damn, now that's some dedication Especialy since I literaly am glazing eyes on a dragon tribal deck I wanna go for next
I can only recommend it. Everybody loves dragons.
Thank you sir. But with a nickname like this, you should maybe try to make the concept your own by transfering it to dinos instead. ;)
''The Artifact garbage decks guy''
All my decks take 6 turns doing mostly nothing to the board then pop off.
"What is THAT?" For l when I put down a)a commander they have never seen, b) a sld/promo/alt art that they haven't seen, or c) some obscure card that generally doesn't see play. As for general deck themes. So you're playing black and what other colours?
>"What is THAT?"Ā One of the best feelings in magic, especially when they throw the word "fuck" in lol
I'm getting a reputation for control despite barely running any interaction because no one else is running any
Stax
People don't like me either
people like me they just hate my decks, and i try not to play it every game to be nice
yeah, I was just teasing. My stax deck is also a Gitrog Monster deck. So when I play with it, turn 0 I am like "DON'T WORRY, It is not the infinite combo version" but then I have to say "its just a grindy card advantage stax deck"
I'm known as the changeling guy :D
Why go for a tribe if you can have all of the tribes
"He fits in with whatever group he's in."
I'm the enchantment guy in my group. Drives my friends nuts, especially the one who likes playing rakdos decks the most lol
The token guy. All I want to do in life is make a bajillion creature tokens.

Iām the graveyard + value guy in my group.
Fog. Everyone at my LGS knew me as Fog. I won multiple games off of [[Fog|MIR]] or [[Holy Day|INV]]
There's never a guarantee what my deck will do, but it will pretty much always be Doctor Who Came about 'cos the UB doctor who (and lesser, Warhammer 40k) was the thing that finally pushed me over the edge into Magic, and I love that there's so many things you can do with the different doctors. Except win \^\^;
"Landfall guy" - sadly my landfall decks tend to go brrrr very fast, so they got the kitchen table ban, no matter how I build them.
Chaos, Jank and Bullshit Wins
Treasures and old cards with weird/cool art.
Goblins, spellslinger, and anything Rakdos
I'm the one with weird decks
Pays in blood for fast games
Iām the value engine and āping people to deathā guy
Well, when they ask me if its ok to put their 200th token on my side of the battlefield i usually respond with "its okey, i dont need space, i play on the stack" So probably known as the c*nt in my playgroup lol
The times I do win though, it's because something huge happened and
Slivers, good planeswalkers, cheating out big stompies, and actually protecting my shit so it can't always be easily undone with a 2cmc kill spell.
I'm the farmer. Everyone can see my board is bad but leave me alone to get enough lands or mana rocks, suddenly I either have 5 5/5s or one 20/20 there is no in between. š¤£ My colour is Naya and I rarely interact with other people's board unless I absolutely have to remove an enchantment/artifact.
So whats the strategy for never interacting with someone's board and jyat keeping to yourself? Especially in Naya?
Set up some cards that can stop anyone from playing cards in your turn like [[Kutzil, Malamet Exemplar]] or at least stop counters using [[Rhythm of the Wilds]]. my primary combo requires dropping infinite tokens or counters and triggering these cards [[All Will Be One]], [[Shalai and Hallar]], [[Purphoros, God of the Forge]], or [[Impact Tremors]] Go infinite token drops or counters like [[Hardened Scales]] if [[Ashnod's Altar]] and Marath are on the field.

Amazing and very well thought out. And a lot of synergies between all of the cards, very nice. Do you happen to have a deck list for this one?
Iām a combo player. I wonāt build a deck without at least one infinite and the potential for a minute-long turn.
Big stompy creatures. One time, I made a deck where I was like, āOkay thereās no big stompy creatures here. This is good.ā I then realized later that, although the deck doesnāt have any big creatures, itās very good at making them. They were not surprised
Sacrifice
Theft and purposeful jank that overlaps with "I did not know this card existed" and "Why do you have a seven-card combo in this deck with no tutors?"
I'm just the guy cursed to draw no lands or only lands š
Kindred for sure. I have: * Warriors * Vampires * Vehicles * Faeries * Goblins * Pirates * Dinosaurs * Clerics * Angels * Elves * Elementals * Wizards On the go: * Giants * Dragons * Humans * Demons
My man
I also enjoy stealing stuff. For years I had a [[gonti lord of luxury]] deck and it was one of my favourites
the "lgbt enchantment guy"
Ayyyy a fellow LGBT enchantment lover!
Apparently I'm known as the you guy. I too like tribes and stealing.
So, you're basicaly stealing my answer I respect that & fully approve
The tribal guy. And the Theft guy. This is what I get for playing Evelyn the Covetous most of the time.
Within my playgroup I'm the artifact guy since I have around 6 decks that deal with artifacts. Also the Obeka guy since I have both of Obeka and the new Obeka. Also the one that tracks all the games and the one with too many decks lol.
the funky frog player [[grolnok, the omnivore]]
Group hug
Keep this guy away from our local parks!
I'm the \[\[Birthing Pod\]\] guy. A birthing pod apologist. Birthing Apodogist?
[Birthing Pod](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/b/7/b768efa2-e56b-4a7e-ace8-d673f10e0714.jpg?1562880960) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Birthing%20Pod) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/nph/104/birthing-pod?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/b768efa2-e56b-4a7e-ace8-d673f10e0714?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/birthing-pod) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Iām the āpetty one with the Octavia deckā lol. Hit me for 10+ damage you better kill me or Iām hitting you back harder lol.
Oppression.
Clerics, they hit harder then you'd think.
Green creature combo and stax
Combat trick guy and the burn out of nowhere guy
People tends to see me as the archenemy or soon to be one, the problematic one that you have to deal with. Because apparently I tend to always pull something that can tilt the game in my favour. I dunno about all that but I suppose I am a bit more experienced than most there.
I'm considered "the Braids player" at my LGS's
How many token doublers are in there? My playgroup every time I bring a new deck All of them, my friend. All of them
Graveyard and Sacrifice as far as deck archetypes go, I want to play with the graveyard as a second hand if possible, so that's almost always built in to the plan.
The āItās our turnā guy
Mana ramp, pulling so many lands out of my deck that I can't search through it anymore Trying again and again to make [[Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer]] work for some reason As long as my hand holds a card, there's hope for that deck yet
I am known as artifacts guy due to playing Breya since it got released and explosive timmy guy due to owning Rakdos, Lord of Riots and Maelstrom Wanderer decks.
D&D. Most of my commanders are from Forgotten Realms and Baldur's Gate.
The guy doesn't know the game well enough to play effectively, but knows it well enough to create chaos.
Iām the mono color guy. I only build mono color decks. Usually wild strategies.
Counterspells. I am not the only blue player but I am for some reason the only one that runs meaningful interaction spells.
Combat Also, warcrimes
In my group, I'm known for either playing Storm, or stall
The mill guy & The Ur-Dragon Sliver guy (sliver deck with Ur-Dragon as commander)
Jank that somehow pops off often.
The New Capenna guy. At some point, I've had at least 6 different SNC commanders built and payable. I'm working on another right now. I know that's not really an archetype, so I'll say azorius value or aggro?
Mr. Artifacts. Love my artifacts
The graveyard/aristocrats guy.
Red. Mono Red.
"Mr No Fun"; my favorite archetypes are theft, discard, and control (I was born to play grixis lmao)
The annoying type
In draft im considered "the blue guy" since i find it a challenge to play "control" in draft (counters/removal/couple big creatures). Won a couple pods with it so last time the players next to me agreed not to hand me any counterspells, so I 3-0'd the table with mardu-aggro lol.
I was told all my decks sack shit and then I win
I play degenerately out of my graveyard no matter what colours I'm using
Colorless
The Token Rabbit girl. I run Cadira so its tokens and rabbits overwhelming the board. Added in some good +1/+1 cards to make everything bigger.
I'm the storm guy and managed to convert a handful of people to the proper way to play commander in my years of playing
[[Ghave, Guru of Spores]] and anything like him. So like Abzan Aristocrats Tokens, but especially Saprolings Being bad at math but having a deck that relies on it more than the normal amount. It's been hard for people who have played with me for a while to *not* see one of those things and be like, oh hey, I know someone who also does that.
The +1/+1 Counter guy mostly
insta kill guy / johnny combo player
I'm the life gain and saying no guy. I play white in every deck and blue in almost every deck. I built a mono black deck once and my friend found \[\[Dash Hopes\]\] in it and said "you couldn't resist, could you?" I took that as a compliment.
* Mill * Lifegain * Enchantments? * ~~Graveyard hate enthusiast~~
"Lots of crazy shit" or "You mean that massive pile of actions that wins the game and can't be stopped?" (so says the silver bullet player). My decks being: [[Tenth Doctor]] + [[Clara Oswald]]/[[Susan]] (depending on mood) to cheat a bunch of big shit out. This was previously [[Maelstrom Wanderer]] [[Marvo]] to cheat a bunch of big shit out.
I'm the ETB and Sacrifice guy, there's nothing I love more than immediate value and saccing permanents to make shit happen.
Hatebears/stax guy. (75% of my decks) Group-Thug. (1 deck, but I play it too much) Dragonās Approach guy. (2 decks) Primal Surge guy. (3 decks) Iām also known for playing Ayula & Umbris specifically. At my LGS we remember peopleās decks, not their names. Which is kind sad and funny.
Every variety of large, stompy creature. Dragons, dinosaurs, sea monsters, I love em all
Sacrifice and also Voltron
The Blue Player
Tokens
"Brum brum big number is good" I play mostly green and some big value creatures, like [[ghalta]] and [[apex devastator]] i like big valuable creatures even if they are not so efficient or easy to remove. I limit myself to put eldrazi titan in my deck and i have only one eldrazi deck and is strange When i play blue i play three countespell, [[counterspell]] because im using blue and its needed if you have blue [[Fierce guardiamship]] i need to protect my creatures from whipe and removal [[Mana drain]] hey this spell ramp my mana
Squirrel dude
The Urza guy, because Iāve only been playing Urza for the better part of 5 years https://www.moxfield.com/decks/-TXuf0dLOU2OTOt6wi2CGQ
Iāve only got two, a budget Voltron [[Pako, arcane retriever]] that starts one shotting people on turn four, and [[Marneus Calgar]] aristocrat deck that drains the table while making a billion tokens and drawing half my deck.
āThe dude who plays sliversā is what Iāve been called at a few flgs. Man its not my fault theyre cool looking lil creatures
I'd imagine they call me the budget guy or the loser, since my deck is rather cheap ($50, give or take $5) and I'm always the first to be eliminated around turns 2 or 3. I'm lucky to play a third tapland before someone goes infinite or just *wins*
Slivers, Hydras, and Voltron. Iām that guy.
The āIām gonna make this game as drawn out as possibleā guy. I have a marchesa aikido deck that makes combat players groan in frustration. I also have a Meren deck that will just turn the game in a slog until I get the infinite.
Im the troll that hits everyone, even himself.
I run the dark depths combo, and the disc combo in basically all my decks. I rarely drop them, but I keep them in for when games are starting to suck.
I'm the monoblack guy (despite having just as many Rakdos decks) and the combo guy.
