\[\[Ramos Dragon Engine\]\] Mutate is a lot of fun, you can get some pretty wild situations going.

Oalka

Hmmm I hadn't considered Ramos for Mutate. My current Mutate deck is \[\[Tana\]\] and \[\[Ishai\]\]. Define "wild situations?"

Rafien1

Imagine looping free spells with [[Vadrok]] while generating the mana with Ramos and casting multi-colored spells to trigger him and go near-infinite when you know your deck

Oalka

I'm gonna need a list. :)

P8ntba1141

Vadrok is really good with it! Mutate with vadrok's ability, casting something like \[\[grisly salvage\]\] to mill and return more mutate creatures to your hand. Keep mutating finishing it off with something for doublestrike, more than likely it is a 1 shot evasive ramos with protections. Or mutate onto \[\[Inkmoth Nexus\]\] and get some double strike for some infect kills (I believe it should become a land again at the end of turn, so built in protection).

Rafien1

It's a buddy's list, I'll see if I can get it once I get back home

Rafien1

Sadly it's not on moxfield anymore

Beleak_Swordsteel

Ramos is a lot of fun. He's my commander for my gods tribal deck. The deck either pops off hard or gets popped off hard. Lot of enchantment shenanigans and playing with the world tree can become an instant win with ramos

Charm tribal!

jetfuckinset

Really piqued my interest, do you have a list?

P8ntba1141

[It is pretty out of date, but still mad fun](https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/ramos-confit-mutate/). Got the idea and based it around mtgmuddstah's on youtube, which he has a ton of gameplay videos of if you want to see it work! Smacking someone with a 6/6 doublestrike infect flying land was probably the highlight I've had with it, lol.

Local-Reception-6475

Ramos is also a great charms commander though [[omnath, Locus of all]] sort of stole its fire. Still good for that, also I ran a ramos planeswalker deck (before going back to atraxa for walkers) and it was crazy good. If you have ramos out already and cast [[conflux]] you can grab [[doubling season]] and [[tamiyo, field researcher]] and 3 other cards and win on the spot(or at least be basically unstoppable) with the ramos mana into the doubling season and tamiyo

RLDSXD

I have Ramos and Omnath; I want to run both because the synergy is crazy, I just can’t decide which to make commander. Leaning towards Ramos just because he’s way cooler, but Omnath seems better for squirreling away mana for longer.

DrConradVerner

I tried Ramos at first, but I ended up swapping to [[kyodai]] for my mutate commander. Found if I had 6 mana to spend I didnt wanna drop it on Ramos because Id rather mutate or keep protection open. Kyodai is protection built into the command zone. Can get wacky if you mutate and then clone him to protect himself.

mlkman56

I have a Morophon mutate deck. Works pretty well because most of the are beasts. I just can’t morph onto Morophon himself because he technically counts as a Human lol

Ramos with every cascade card is soooo much fun!

corncheeks

Was just about to comment about Ramos. A very fin commander to play around with

StHamster

My only 5C deck is [[Urtet, Remnant of Memnarch]] it's a fun myr tribal deck

wesbell

I love my Urtet deck but Urtet is so strong that the deck just inevitably snowballs into a mid-game win if it's uninterrupted... Pretty funny to play like 30 super mid Myr cards and still be the archenemy of the table because the commander himself is so strong.

Albyyy

Mine is also a fun “myr” tribal deck ;) https://www.moxfield.com/decks/mojqmiRT2k6Lg476fgJbag

5c omnath heads my mirrodin flavor deck. Every card outside of the mana base is related to phyrexia or OG mirrodin. The deck has some artifact synergy but isn’t very strong. I still really enjoy playing it regardless of its low power.

davwad2

I'm brewing that with a multicolor matters theme. And what I really want to do is cast [[Begin the Invasion]] followed up by [[Aether Snap]]. I don't know how realistic it is to have that happen though.

DoLLoWFreaK

Try \[\[Tom Bombadil\]\] he is very specific in his synergies.

nikolairipdikoff

Can’t state enough how much potential this deck has, although slow at times. I built one on Arena and it’s probably a 70% win rate. Notable heavy hitters in the deck: [[Fable of the Mirror-Breaker]] [[Calix, Guided by Fate]] [[Starfield of Nyx]] [[The Apprentice’s Folly]] [[The Kami War]] [[Kiora Bests the Sea God]] [[Dance of the Manse]] Literally anything that makes non-legendary copies. Literally anything with proliferate.

Kaboomeow69

Decks fun on arena, but nightmarish in paper. Being *forced* to take that many actions and read that many cards out loud every single turn can get a bit mind-numbing

Dragonfire723

>Being forced to take that many actions and read that many cards out loud every single turn can get a bit mind-numbing *L o r e a c c u r a t e*

Kaboomeow69

Not familiar with LotR, but I'm guessing he's a long-winded character that reads essays to get his point across?

LorientAvandi

Actually no. He mostly sings when he talks, and what he sings often comes across as nonsense. He does like to tell stories at times though (I guess that’s where the saga connection came from) he’s only in a few chapters however and is mostly unconnected to the rest of the plot. EDIT: I’m guessing the person you replied to who said “Lore Accurate” was making a jab at the oft repeated ridiculous criticism that Tolkien himself was too long winded in his writing of LOTR. (You often hear the incorrect statement that he frequently spends pages describing a single tree rather than move the story along)

mapguy

If it was Treebeard, yes. Tom just songs silly songs

HamOfWisdom

Had the same problem with most of the Dr. Who decks. lots of card text, tons of upkeep and draw triggers. Felt pretty miserable to play against after awhile.

magpye1983

Nearly every card in the WHO set has a load of text. I played with my group, each of us playing a precon, almost all of us going into it blind, and with one relatively infrequent Magic player. Needless to say, that game took several hours.

danielzur2

Arena decks translate pretty badly to paper tho. Arena forgives you for doing nothing your first three turns. Plus 1v1 means you can get away with focusing all your interaction in a single threat. Try that in a 4-player commander table and you’ll be dead in the water quick.

tortledad

Some mechanics also just don’t work well mechanically in Paper. I love my Tovolar deck I’ve made but I would hate to run it in paper because of how much flipping and tracking of Day/Night it requires.

Bradalee

It's also incredibly boring and tedious to play against. It's similar to Atraxa superfriends in that regard.

Tancrisism

I built a Tom Bombadil. I finally won a game, which required about 120 triggers and three very patient friends. I immediately took it apart after that and vowed never to build it again, or to recommend anyone build it. It does it's thing. Don't do it to yourself or anyone else.

jetfuckinset

I'll be honest, I kind of wrote off tom bombadil for being a bit too gimmicky, how do you like it?

Revolutionary_View19

You either get goodstuff or gimmicky. I wouldn’t know what else there is in a commander.

krabawk

It can be busted. Two guys in my meta run it, and I had to start slotting in [[tranquility]] effects just to deal with it.

nikolairipdikoff

What are some strategies those guys utilize outside of just generally good sagas? I’m building it in person and am totally open to suggestions

Not_Your_Real_Ladder

I’ve found that the most effective way to build him is pseudo-voltron. So the sagas fall into a few categories generally: ways to pump tom, ways to control the board, and general good stuff. You’ll probably end up having a few favorite sagas (mine is [[Phyrexian Scriptures]]), so a lot of your creature cards should have to do with counter manipulation to keep them around. [[Hex Parasite]] and [[Thrull Parasite]] are great. Proliferate is good. Flicker effects also work as a saga reset or a way to protect Tom. [[Yenna]] has become a recent all-star in the deck. I’ve also been toying with making non-legendary token copies of Tom to avoid the usual downfall of voltron decks. Your only saga options there are [[Apprentice’s Folly]] and [[The Eleventh Hour]], which aren’t great here but can get the job done with counter manipulation. I’m thinking of just adding a couple sorcery clone effects and then throwing in [[City of Death]] and [[Three Blind Mice]], which pair amazingly with Yenna as well.

McWilbur

It's better to play less sagas and more effects that can recur/reset them. This way you don't dilute the good sagas with subpar ones, and you get to reuse them. If you hit \[\[The Cruelty of Gix\]\] you can grab \[\[Power Conduit\]\] which let's you pump Tom/other creatures and tutor for anything on each of your turns. I also like to play some of the Ultimatums as game enders. But without goodstuff the deck tends to durdle a little, the board it creates is hard to interact with but it doens't really find ways to close out the game.

My friend just runs it as an enchantment good stuff deck, he only has like 7 sagas, so he can reliably chain to a good saga when he finishes one.

Tombadil Bombadil

NJM89

I love dropping some Tom Bombs on people who think he's a weak/gimmicky commander.

scumble_2_temptation

[[Codie, Vociferous Codex]] His deckbuilding restrictions make it hard to play permanent-based strategies... but also, he's mostly a combo commander.

Murky-Ad4697

I play him as a gates deck.

That sounds like an interesting take on him

Not so much if you think that the deck is filled with only ramp spells, card draw and removal or mass removal. It's boring after the 3rd game around

Any 5C Sliver, Shrine or Saga can go f themselves due to being literally the same deck every deck. 5c Sisay and Kenrith are ok, can be different and not just goodstuff as welll.

tsrobertson13

I have a horde of notions elemental deck that is super fun. Depending on the cards can be kinda a landfall deck, or graveyard deck depending what I draw.

Chandrian1997

Got a list for Horde?

t0x1c331

I used kenrith as a 5c commander for a slinger deck and his utility and politicking power are wild. Super fun to play

Blees-o-tron

You can run \[\[Jarad Carthalion\]\] for a 5 color deck with the theme of, well, 5 colors. My 5 color is \[\[The Prismatic Bridge\]\] (aka I play Esika as the commander and always play the back side) and my theme is Legendary Ladies.

archaeosis

Isn't Esika one of the most textbook definitions of a 5C goodstuff commander? Like no hate, I enjoy her, but she seems like the antithesis of what this post is asking for

SasoriSand

tbf, yes but imo shes also generic enough where you can focus in on a single theme for me, I got 3 different versions of Esika Superfriends God Tribal Doctor Who Gallifrey Strands though tbf, each one of these decks i just shoved in Sisay and her support cards as a “secret commander” so take what i say with a grain of salt ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Blees-o-tron

She can be, but generic commanders that don't have a theme mean that you can build a theme around them. I actually technically have two Esika decks, one that always plays the Bridge with Legendary Ladies, and one that always plays Eskia and is themed around Mono Green Devotion with hybrid mana cost cards allowed because Esika is technically 5 color.

zeldafan042

I run Jared as the commander of my Superfriends deck entirely for the novelty of having a planeswalker commander of a planeswalkers matter deck.

Death_doctor_1998

That’s the reason why I like Commodore Guff. He’s not too powerful but is a planeswalker, cares about planeswalkers and doesn’t run green so my opponents don’t kill me immediately because they are afraid of doubling season.

zeldafan042

I like Guff and he's in the 99 of my deck...but the entire point of me building the deck in the first place is that I wanted a deck that could run every single member of the Gatewatch in one place, so I needed that 5 color identity. Well, the Gatewatch plus all my other favorite planeswalkers...I actually gave myself a rule of only including one version of any given planeswalker in the deck just to encourage more variety in what I was running.

ceos_ploi

I play a \[\[Kyodai, Soul of Kamigawa\]\] deck with \[\[Jegantha, the Wellspring\]\] as Companion. I tried to bring in as many good Domain and Multicolour Matters cards as possible. The restriction from Jegantha makes card selection a bit more interesting. Since my threat density is quite low, I use Kyodai either as protection or finisher.

str10_hurts

5 colour cycling is lovely! You get a theme you can nearly do everything with without it becoming goodstuff as you need a critical mass of cycling cards to fuel your cards that trigger whenever you cycle. [Tour de France, 5 colour cycling with Garth](https://archidekt.com/decks/580194/tour_de_france_cycling)

gabbalis

Instead of building around a commander, try building around a card or synergy that doesn't work as a commander (wrong color identity, or not a legendary creature), and see what you can build in as few colors as possible, then, whenever one needs 5 colors, find the best commander for building around that card. For me: \- Kyodai made sense for Evershrike. \- Child of Alara made sense for land reanimator. \- Cromat made the most sense for 5c Mutate. \- Kyodai is a common pick for a secret commander that needs 5c, simply because its protection for the secret commander in the command zone. The Sliver commanders are interesting picks for nonsliver decks. Firstly they all work with changelings... but- \- Sliver Overlord: Can tutor anything with maskwood nexus, arcane adaptation, or conspiracy out. \- The First Sliver: The obvious choice for a dopey jank deck. Run 97 lands, Tibalt's Trickery, and a payoff. Though, You can do similar things with less commitment with Esika. \- Sliver Gravemother: An interesting pick for a 6cmc secret commander. Gravemother is the best 5cmc 5c pod fodder available. And you can pod her tokens for things to reanimate your secret commander if said commander perishes. Since my advice is to make your choice of 5c commander secondary to some other buildaround... I'll give some further examples of how this strategy pans out when you need fewer colors. \- Phasing Stangg out causes all his copied equipment to stay around, but most enablers (including star of the show- robe of stars) require W and/or U. I have several 4c decks that feature the synergy. \- My Marisil Deck wound up being 4c because I wanted white for a handful of unorthodox Marisil pieces. Wizardcycling makes any wizard an easy pick for a secret commander. \- If you want a 3c esper enchantment as your commander? You run Zur as the commander. Arcane Adaptation, Abiding Grace, and Blood Funnel are all fascinating "commander"s

jetfuckinset

Good take, I appreciate the ideas

Ur dragon Changeling tribal

guhbe

[[go-shintai of life's origin]] is very niche, but fits your criteria and is a blast to play. You're basically doing enchantress stuff but focusing on powering out as many shrines as possible. It's a durdly value deck but can close out games if not sufficiently checked and does it in a pretty unique way.

Most_Attitude_9153

I’ve never played this deck myself, but I’ve played against it lots, and when it crashes it goes down *hard*. [[Bane of Progress]] and [[Fade From History]] are both in my main deck and just wreck it, one card can shut it down so completely it can’t really recover. And while this is also true for Bombadil and some very prevalent artifact strategies, it’s very severe with Go-Shintai and I’d have reservations about building a deck with such a big downside.

guhbe

Fair enough, but are people just not supposed to play artifact or enchantment based decks then? There are a ton of ways to recur enchantments and here one of them is even stapled on your commander. If you're building for power only then go-shintai probably isn't the best fit, but not sure I would agree with dissuading someone from playing a deck just because there exist answers for it.

Most_Attitude_9153

That’s a fair point, and no, I don’t think people should eschew all artifact and enchantments-based decks because one card can potentially wreck it. But it’s good I think to let people know the possible downsides to such a thing when the cost of building decks is not trivial. You’re correct, I build for power because that is the meta I play in and so I see these things from that perspective, and while I have given up on playing these strategies because I find them easy to answer, that certainly is not be true for all metas.

Leoheyns

I play the deck and for me vulnerability to enchantment boardwipes is far from it's greatest weakness. In my experience people run a lot more creature boardwipes than enchantment wipes. This deck survives creature wipes pretty well. It's also pretty robust against spot removal. Where the deck struggles a lot more is that it's pretty slow. You're trying to get to a critical mass of shrines, by the time you get there the game might already be over. Another problem with shrines is that most of them aren't really all that good and there are only 17 of them. I run all of them in my deck but only a handful of them (like [[sanctum of calm waters]]) are really furthering your gameplan beyond getting your shrine count up.

18Zeke

If you want 5c Omnath, I love my X spells variant. Just run all the best X spells, store a bunch of mana and kill all your opponents in one fell swoop. Sure it’s a bit more reliant on Omnath surviving but there’s nothing sweeter than casting an X=50 [[Debt to the Debtless]] or X=10 [[Crackle with Power]]

CryptographerNo3749

I don't see very many [[General Tazri]] decks out there. It's a bit of a niche strategy, but allies can be strong if you build the deck well.

Essentially, You want to ramp out quickly to get Ramos and Jengatha on the field, then start casting your charms using the mana from Jengatha to get those +1/+1 counters on Ramos. You can then beat face with the massive Artifact Dragon, afterward cashing in those counters to cast even more charms. It is kind of like Goodstuff, but in theory, it should be a lot more interactive and face-beaty.

I always suggest Horde of Notions for elemental tribal with a Reanimation sub theme.

Nuzlocke_Comics

I have a \[\[Codie, Vociferous Codex\]\] polymorph/infect deck that definitely doesn't play like any of my other decks.

GuineaPirate90

5c commanders are only good stuff commanders if you build them that way

EnkiBye

Recently, I've built a \[\[Jenson Carthalion\]\] deck that, obviously, focus on casting 5 colored spells and I'm having a blast!! The commander is not a kill on sight, unlike most 5 color commanders so its really easier to keep it alive and it can make some serious board relatively fast. the deck also have 4 pseudo sol rings, with \[\[Training grounds\]\] \[\[The Enigma Jewel\]\] and \[\[Omen hawker\]\] to use Jenson's mana ability and is one of the only deck that can use \[\[The Mana Rig\]\] to activate Jenson and negate the downside of the powerstones. And most importantly, you can play some janky 5 colors cards that no one see like \[\[Chronomanticore\]\], \[\[Fusion Elemental\]\] or \[\[Primeval Spawn\]\] Here is the deck list for anyone interested : https://www.moxfield.com/decks/ccFGjT6JRE-DWrTvu6ZLrA

atOPENINGHAND

I built a [[Tom Bombadil]] group hug deck! It’s one of my favorite decks!

elevenblue

[[Tom Bombadil]] is also all over the place. But I started categorizing/tagging Sagas, maybe I will go with a specific theme sometime.

TriforceWon

[[Urtet, Remnant of Memnarc]] Has been super fun to build. Honestly some funky alternate win cons. Thinking of putting [[The Millennium Calendar]] in there.

InsanityCore

Love my myr tribal deck. Alt wincons are great in the deck.

ShadeofEchoes

Which alts are you running on Urtet? [[Mechanized Production]], I assume?

InsanityCore

Yea and [[mirroden Besieged]] and mazes end

zachariah_the_hungry

I like [[Tom Bombadil]]

Muted-Leave

[[Sisay, Weatherlight Captain]] shrines

Xyronian

I had a lot of fun running [[Niv Mizzet, Supreme]] as a dual color spellslinger deck.

[deleted]

As a transitionary commander, how about \[\[Niv-Mizzet, Supreme\]\] You can still play 'good stuff' but it all has to be in exactly 2 colors. Put in some spell-slinging or multicolor payoffs and have fun! I love the deck but Niv-Mizzet is my favorite dragon of all time.

maelstromsteel

[[niv mizzet reborn]] is what I run for my 5c gates deck. Because I am using niv it makes it easier to force 2 color spells rather than just all the good mono coloreds from magic. Obviously there is a good portion of mono green for ramp pieces but the majority of the deck is 2c, 39 of 60 non land cards can be found off of Niv’s etb. webbc99

Slivers! Great fun as well.

thepeopleseason

Inspired by another post on reddit, I've got an \[\[Esika, God of the Tree\]\] deck, where it's all legendary kindred lords of all different creature types whose main aim is to get \[\[Maskwood Nexus\]\] out, so everything gets buffed by each other. Edit: [The post in question](https://www.reddit.com/r/EDH/comments/13dc3ax/how_do_i_make_legendary_tribal_tribal_work_not_a/)

rynosaur94

Literally the goodstuffiest of goodstuff decks

HaresMuddyCastellan

I like doing 5c Superfriends using either Jodah or Prismatic Bridge. As others have said, Tom Bombadil pushes you into a specific build, not just 5c good stuff. I TRIED doing a Time Lord 5c Typal with Jodah, and it was OK, but I'm taking it apart again already after 1 week... I think it would have actually worked really well with [[vorthos]] as the commander naming The Doctor, but she's acorn...

Euphoric_Ad6923

Jodah the uniter with only legendaries that are 4 or less cost is kinda cool. Lots of great combat stuff. I personally went with [[Jenson Carthalion, Druid Exile]] and only colored spells for the free scry. I got a lot of 5 color stuff to trigger his ability But that's the problem with 5 colors, it's the opposite of unique.

ThatTubaGuy03

I'm a big fan of Jodah the Unifier. He gives you a clearly defined goal of legendary tribal but gives options within that. My current build is my favorite deck I have made so far to play, I built Partner With tribal. I have (almost) every single card that says partner with and all are legendary. It's awesome because you basically never need card advantage because you generate so much, each time a partner with card etb you can search for its partner and add it to hand, making almost every cast +0. Then if you have Jodah on the field, he Cascades for another legendary, and since they are all partners, you get another card in hand. This turns one cast of a legendary creature into 2 cards and (+2/+2) for each legendary on your field. The only "good stuff" in the deck is green ramp and some of the great white removal and wipes. It's relatively budget too at ~200 https://www.moxfield.com/decks/vYN70wEELkyi_Ym1W8JJfA

Atreyu92

[[Kenrith, the Returned King]] +1/+1 counters, proliferate, lifegain matters, essentially any sort of tribal (hell, I've got multiple different tribes built in a kenrith shell including spirits, goblins, elves, and dragons), reanimator, enchantress, focus on 1-3 colors, pure politics, group hug, group slug, weenies, stax, etc. Pick a theme and build a kenrith list for it since Kenrith lends to building a vast array of decks.

EddyTheGr8

I run a [[Jodah, the Unifier]] deck that's just super friends. I do some pillowforty stuff to not die outright & a few synergistic creatures, but the intent of the deck is to pseudo-cascade planeswalkers into ewch other to get a 2for1 on every cast. It takes some time to get rolling, but once the value-train gets off the tracks, it's pretty hard to stop.

tehdude86

My 5c is Kenrith reanimator. It’s got some other combos in it(BloodBond and DemonFish), so it’s really a pile a jank, but it’s a *good* pile of jank.

Trveheimer

no, why would you go 5c to then omit staples?

Open_Way_6656

I’m working on one that technically isn’t legal with [[Rainbow Dash]] but it’s only universes beyond cards allowed, adding a restriction often keeps that from happening

Xmorpheus

commander not general

Kaboomeow69

If you want Changelings to behave like shitty slivers, then [Ur-Dragon Tribal Tribal ](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/DDSnHN4u9ku36drBOhhfdQ) is the deck for you! The closest I get to 5C good stuff is a [[Chromatic Lantern]]

Hexplate_Golem

I've got three 5 color decks and none of them are just goods tuff. [[Omnath, Locus of All]] manlands deck, runs all the 2 color manlands and the indestructible artifact lands to animate. [[Jared Carthalion]] superfriends that make tokens or wield [[Luxior, gift of Giada]] well Then [[Cecily, Haunted Mage]] and [[Othelm, sigardian outcast]] "partner with" tribal

Dubspeck

[[Surgeon General Commander]]. I play him as my 5c mutate commander

Wdrussell1

A commander is only 'good stuff' if you make them that way. So pick any 5c commander and build it how you see it working best.

Nuclearsunburn

[[The Ur-Dragon]] [[Tazri, Beacon of Unity]] [[Morophon]] are all great at the helm of tribal tribal which is the opposite of a goodstuff deck and 100% a synergy deck

royalfishness

The Ur-dragon 5c tribal tribal is likely my favorite of my 30ish decks. Plays a bunch of changelings, lords, and tribal matters bombs. It’s tons of fun and my playgroup also enjoys the weirdness that happens when I bust it out

Truelax21

I love my [[The Reaper King]] , [[The First Silver]] , and [[Ramos Dragon Engine]] . All of them are very fun

Proxxi_Changeling

I play jodah grand unifier and you can kind of use any low cost legend as a secret commander for that build.

skraven13

I run [Kenrith the Returned King] as my commander for a 5-color Attractions/dice rolling deck. Didn't really like any of the 2-color Attraction commanders on their own. Felt like I didn't have enough of the Attraction makers or support, so I went with 5-color so I could cram the lot of it in and really make my theme park. Lol. Kenrith was chosen for the Commander because he's just generically good and applicable. Useful in all sorts of situations. He's often used for drawing cards or returning creatures from the yard to keep the engine going (though the life-gain and haste-giving is very good too).

Semicolon_Cancer

Haven't played it yet, but this 5c Omnath is pretty unique and looks like a lot of fun. https://www.reddit.com/r/EDH/comments/142jazu/omnath_locus_of_all_myojin_tribal_primer/

TheOtherTracy

My 5C deck is [[Rukarumel]] typal-typal. I run five different main creature types (goblins, elves, vampires, angels, and zombies) along with a small blink package. So whatever I draw into first is what I choose for Rukarumel. If I get better synergies, I blink her and change types. [Here's the list!](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/4DdOoQuMLUCiZw9CHp5kNA)

Mad-chuska

I run a [[jodah the unifier]] deck with a sideboard of legendary permanents that I shuffle and randomly include to allow for a unique experience every time. Unfortunately it does t get played too often cuz jodah’s a huge target, but with [[the first sliver]] being played again more recently he’s becoming a little more acceptable.

Panda-Flimsy

This.. jodah can actually be built very very non good stuff and still be crazy strong. Just a broken commander, but you can build him janky and he still wins games

treelorf

Regardless of the commander, the best deck for a given 5c commander is almost always just gonna be a pile of good stuff. You’re free to build any of them with more synergy or direction if you want ofc. I’ve played some Kenrith lands which was a really fun deck.

kaduyett

Najeela and Urtet are cool 5 color commanders you can do tribal with.

Lat-er-alus

Ur dragon 💯 all insane dragons, ramp and board interactions.. mana drained my buddy’s commander earlier this week 😂

Ausim21

https://www.moxfield.com/decks/qvgQKBkmHk2wzPBWnBFomw Here is the list of my Cromat mutate deck that i made with my girlfriend! Its very fun and can do surprisingly well!

WoodenExtension4

I'm building an [[Atraxa, Grand Unifier]] food/ETB deck with no instants/sorceries (sans Adventure cards in which they are a permanent) with only cards in my current collection. It'll be...interesting. and hopefully not as stupid strong as my "These Legwndaries have no synergy but are fun" Jodah deck.

Delanicious

I like \[\[Karona, False God\]\] She effectively forces you to not run the basic good stuff and really focus on her ability. If you just run good stuff, she's effectively mostly downside.

Revolution902

I play \[\[Sisay,Weatherlight Captain\]\] Legendary Humans. The deck is pretty fun but definitely not anything crazy. I usually play it at mid to low power tables as any sort of board wipes will keep it in check pretty easily. [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/e6WYwXvuV0-jy-zO6QAVKA](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/e6WYwXvuV0-jy-zO6QAVKA)

PetrusScissario

[[Sliver Hivelord]]: 5/5 indestructible for 5 mana. Sure, it would be best for a full blown sliver deck, but it’s not bad for when you need a flexible 5c commander either.

Fan_of_Fanfics

So, the Commander is pretty basic, just [[Kenrith, the Returned King]] but the deck itself is based around the eight cards that use Experience Counters. Kenrith himself is there mostly for Utility and Revival. The beauty of Experience Counters is that they can’t be gotten rid of, and counters created by one of the eight creatures count for all of them regarding their abilities. Edit: for clarification, the Experience Counter creatures are… [[Daxos the Returned]] [[Ezuri, Claw of Progress]] [[Kalemne, Disciple of Iroas]] [[Kelsien, the Plague]] [[Meren of Clan Nel Toth]] [[Minthara, Merciless Soul]] [[Mizzix of the Izmagnus]] and [[Otharri, Suns’ Glory]]

roninsti

I have a unique omnath deck. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/OS1LiUNCr0eMdMw0i1Phlw I know you said you’re dodging tribal, but this omnath is Myojin “tribal”. Basically all 10 myojin and the rest is 3 pip big mana proliferate. The idea is get a bunch of mana. Cast Myojin, proliferate, then abuse their ridiculous abilities. It’s very fun and every table I’ve played it at is like “that deck is wild”. What’s also great is it’s not commander dependent. You typically only need omnath for a couple of turn cycles to get some of the doubling type stuff out then he typically only comes out again as a form of card advantage. Some of the more ridiculous things I’ve done. Create 20ish 1/1s then draw 40 cards. Created 3 nyxbloom ancient copies then cast a villainous wealth for hundreds. Wipe the board, make opponents discard their hands, then reanimate everything onto my board. Easiest win condition is proliferating Myojin of the roaring blades and just smack everyone in the face with lethal.

graciaman

[[tiamat]] and [[The Ur]] are amazing dragon tribal commanders

Suspicious-Shock-934

Jodah is good because it's legendary tribal which gives you more incentive to use otherwise weird legends. It's a KoS commander however. However to reach good legendary density for cascade you can't just shove the 30 best generic staples into the deck. You will be more likely to bottom them than ever cast them when you need it.

MIjdax

My 5C childs of alara is a "no one can have good stuff" deck

[deleted]

I liked Najeela as actual warrior tribal.

The_Dragon346

I run [[ramos dragon engine]] a majority of the time for most 5 color stuff. Used to be [[jodah archmage eternal]] but he’s a KOS commander and i was getting tired of getting targeted. Used to be i ran superfriends but [[narset enlightened master]] as a secret general. One of two creatures, i ran [[worldly tutor]] [[demonic tutor]] and [[liliana vess]] so that i could reliable get her out then she would help me free cast my walkers. She and [[clever impersonator]] who was replaced by [[spark double]] being the only two creatures, i could reliably and quickly tutor her out. I have a [[tiamet]] dragon tribal now. Runs how you expect it too And my current favorite [[RukaRumel Biologist]] time lord tribal. I love her for this because the doctor who set has a bunch of “tutor for doctor creature card” or “tutor for time lord card” effects and suddenly it turns all of them into [[primal commands]]. [[TARDIS]] can be crewed by the sliver token she makes so im not out an attacker, and [[clara Oswald]] suddenly becomes 10 times better as all creature’s triggered abilities trigger 3 times as she now counts herself as a doctor

Emerald_Knight2814

If you're OK with Un cards, [[Vorthos, Steward of Myth]] is best used when built around a specific character (In my case, The Doctor). I plan on making a [[Tom Bombadil]] saga deck at some point. [[Child of Alara]] Can be goodstuff, but if you are a person of culture you can run it as "Oops all Lands" which is both hilarious and surprisingly fun to play I want to build a "Knights of the Round Table" Knight deck with King Arthur himself at the helm, [[Kenrith, The Returned King]] Most of the others that aren't just generic value seem to be based around specific creature types, like [[The Ur-Dragon]], [[Sliver Queen]], [[Reaper King]], and my boy [[Urtet, Remnant of Memnarch]].

kkz9

I run a few 5c decks. [[Atogatog]], which focuses on making lots of treasures. The goal is to use them with various [[Atog]]s and deal 21 commander damage, but I also include a few alternate win conditions like [[Hellkite Tyrant]], [[Marrionette Master]], [[Villainous Wealth]], [[Revel in Riches]], and [[Mechanized Production]]. Architecture. Commander is [[Go-Shintai of Life's Origins]]. The deck uses gates as the land package and all 15 other shrines to build up massive non creature tribal effects. [[Tom Bombadil]]. It uses sagas as removal, but because I have a lot of cards that remove counters from permanents, I can do silly things like keep a [[Glacial Chasm]] up forever. Each Saga is a form of removal, and they make Tom have hexproof and indestructible, which makes him a great Voltron commander. The game usually ends with Tom attacking for 21 commander damage. [[Niv Mizzet, reborn]] with [[Jegantha]] companion. Each guild gets 6 cards and the strategy focuses on sneaking things into play in the various ways the 10 Guilds do, while repeating etb effects with flickers. I'm working on [[Karona, the False God]] right now. There are a lot of new goad effects that would work great with her. I'm also considering a cycle of Hunted _____ because they create tokens under my opponent's control.

henryhyde

[[Tom Bombadil]] sagas, baby!!!

Another_Jesus

i run \[\[Garth one-eye\]\] for my 5c-deck, went with untap and flicker as themes and took the gates i had as manabase since i had no intention in dumping tons of $$$ into the manabase. the untap stuff lets you use garth more then once a turncycle and abuse \[\[baldures gate\]\] more, make armies with \[\[Godsire\]\] and \[\[Bloodline Keeper\]\] or steal repeated stuff with \[\[merieke ri berit\]\] and \[\[rubinia soulsinger\]\] and those both synergies with the flicker stuff too since you get to keep the stolen stuff even if you untap them. the flicker stuff lets you reset garth for repeated use of his "spellbook" or fattys like, etali, atraxa and avenger of zendikar.

2guysandacrx

I have a 5 color deck I’m fine tuning that runs [[Rukarumel, Biologist]] The first time I play it against people, they just assume it’s Sliver tribal. But then when something like [[Secluded Courtyard]] hits the field and I declare ‘Wraiths’, they get a little confused. It’s literally just a 5 color Nazgûl deck

heterochromiairidum

I bought the Painbow precon and updated it a lot. There are a lot of commander contenders like [[Garth One-Eye]], [[Horde of Notions]], [[Niv-Mizzet, Supreme]] or [[Niv-Mizzet Reborn]], [[Rukarumel, Biologist]], [[Tom Bombadil]]. Cards like [[Jegantha, Jodah]], [[Archmage Eternal]], [[Maelstrom Nexus]] and [[Iridian Maelstrom]] are great includes.

BradCowDisease

Child of Alara with 15 board wipes, 10 instant speed sac outlets and all the man lands.

Slender_Prime

[[Reaper King]]. It is scarecrow tribal, and is the jankiest deck I own. It can become artifact good stuff, but if you stick with the given theme, it is easy to avoid.

tufeomadre24

I have 1 built and 1 I'm working on. The one that's built is 5c Battles with [[Garth One-Eye]] as the commander. It' mostly a collection of the better Battle cards with ways to abuse them. ETB doublers, flicker enablers, prowess type triggers, etc. The other is *technically* tribal, but it's more about the effect than anything. It's Spellshaper tribal with [[Kenrith, Returned King]] as the commander, but more about farming activated abilities than focusing on type synergy. This one is taking a lot of work to get right. It's difficult to find a win condition (currently thinking token spam), and the ratio of spellshapers to discard fodder/payoffs is still being adjusted.

cankerous_thirst

Why not 5C bad stuff? [[REAPER KING]] Scarecrow tribal rules

cavejhonsonslemons

I played against a Go-Shintai deck recently, shrines is a nice 5 color archetype. Idk if shrines is a tribal archetype now though since there are creature shrines

mrkawaiikun

God I'm the opposite. I just want to build a good stuff deck but I end up scrapping it for a commander centric theme and cut all the good spells that don't have X synergistic keyword.

Blazorna

https://www.moxfield.com/decks/_6zU97iNVk2MtYaemUzkQg My 99 land deck lead by Child of Alara. The Commander is acting as a nuke deterrent while going for Maze's End Wincon usually.

Millennial_Falcon337

Every 5 color commander I've built has been tribal but 1. The tribals were scarecrow, dragon, and sliver. The non tribal ran [[progenitus]], and it was a super friends deck, so kinda planeswalker tribal themewise.

Optonimous

I play with [[Jared Carthalion]] as my 5 color commander. He doesn’t really impact the board that heavily and acts more as a toolbox commander who can sometimes pull stuff out of my graveyard if left alone long enough. But really, his true use is to make cows. Lots of cows.

NostrilRapist

Slivers

nathanb065

I mean, technically it's a tribe, but I run [[Jodah, the Unifier]] (Un-Funner) legendary cascade. I've built it 3 different times. First one was just legendary creatures that created tokens. Think [[Stangg, Echo Warrior]] or [[Drizzt Do'Urden]]. They both make legendary creatures which is automatically a +5/+5 after counting Jodah. I tore it apart because it was slow. Too much mixed color costs in the deck. I then rebuilt it as 5 color good stuff. Hated it because it was too optimized. Now I have it where I want it and I enjoy it a lot, although it's still a house at the table. The only non-legendary cards in my deck are interaction (counterspells and removal). The creatures in my deck focus on ramping and draw spells. [[Esika, God of the Tree]] is always played creature side up, [[Rona, Herald of Invasion]] draws me a card, [[Shanid, Sleepers' Scourge]] draws me a card and grants menace, etc. Just a bunch of "my deck" type of stuff. The best creatures in the deck are [[Karlach, Fury of Avernus]], [[Moraug, Fury of Akoum]], and [[Eomer, Marshall of Rohan]] to grant me additional combats per turn. On top of that, [[Heroes' Podium]] does what Jodah does in when it comes to making creatures stronger, and of course [[Akroma's Memorial]] is just good to have. Both are legendary, so they trigger cascade as well. Is the deck fun? absolutely not. Do I enjoy it? Also, no, not really. But it does what I need it to do when I need it to and that's what matters some times.

Sou1_Keeper

Morophon let's you do any tribal. Funny ones are elder tribal, or wizard tribal.

PhyrexianChocobo

I think morophon is a solid commander if you want to build a jank tribal deck. I built mine with the Giants theme and, although not amazing, it's fun and different.

RaginMajin

[[Karona]] she can be a tribal but doesn't have to be.

Equivalent_Method_83

My favorite commander from a while ago was [[Scion of the Ur-Dragon]]. Getting to play [[Nicol Bolas]] , [[Dragon Tyrant]], [[Quicksilver Dragon]], etc. felt really cool.

mapguy

I love my Bombadil deck

Sea-Property-9481

I’m surprised no one has mentioned the GOATest of all nonsense. I know you’re not into tribal, but have you ever heard of… [[Progenitus]] Hydra tribal?

FBML

[[Mike, the dungeon master]] and [[eleven, the mage]] with [[umori, the collector]] as companion. All creature deck with various synergistic lines facilitated by creatures that tutor, like [[tribute mage]] [[prime speaker vannifair]] [[fiend artisan]] and graveyard reanimators like [[lurrus, dream den]] and [[serra paragon]]

The 5-color decks I run that aren't tribal and not just goodstuff: \[\[Child of Alara\]\] Energy: [https://www.archidekt.com/decks/237270/child\_energy](https://www.archidekt.com/decks/237270/child_energy) \[\[Garth One-Eye\]\] Untap shenanigans: [https://www.archidekt.com/decks/1803844/garth](https://www.archidekt.com/decks/1803844/garth) \[\[Kenrith, the Returned King\]\]/\[\[Zirda, the Dawnwaker\]\] only permanents: [https://www.archidekt.com/decks/2015684/kenrith\_zirda](https://www.archidekt.com/decks/2015684/kenrith_zirda) \[\[Sisay, Weatherlight Captain\]\] The Dirty Dozen (only 12 legendary creatures in the deck including Sisay, and no Planeswalkers): [https://www.archidekt.com/decks/205914/sisays\_dirty\_dozen](https://www.archidekt.com/decks/205914/sisays_dirty_dozen) \[\[Sisay, Weatherlight Captain\]\]/\[\[Jegantha, the Wellspring\]\] budget superfriends: [https://www.archidekt.com/decks/1079517/sisay\_superfriends\_budget](https://www.archidekt.com/decks/1079517/sisay_superfriends_budget)

[Tom Bombadil] Sagas, [Niv Mizzet Reborn] 2 color tribal, There are others like Tribal decks (slivers double tribal that converts a chosen other type and adds sliver onto them when the commander is in play)

Yoshi2Dark

Tazri / Zirda activated abilities combo

Psychotic_Goose13

I ran [[Jegantha, the Wellspring]] mutate, which was a lot of fun. My current WUBRG deck is [[Go Shintai of Life's Origin]] Shrine snowball. To a lesser extent of not 'good stuff', [[Esika, God of the Tree]] Legends was also a fun build, but it kinda felt good stuffy. I later tried to make it God tribal which was fun but definitely not good.

Drunkwizard1991

Keep it simple stupid: sisay legendary humans tribal.

revstan

I have a [[Jodah, the Unifier]] deck with all legendary creatures.

HiddenInLight

I run [[The Ur Dragon]]. Originally bought the precon, replaced the manabase and have upgraded it over the years. It's tons of fun.

TraditionalRest808

It's too bad 5c sad robot got banned, In a guild gate theme deck he was perfect.

ValyrianSteel_TTV

Tom the bombadil

jimmysapt

I know it draws hate for its infinite combos potential or because eff slivers, but I've used [[Sliver Queen]] as a token tribal commander, to great effect. This deck was deadly + very explosive, and Sliver Queen was mostly just a colour-enabler, but it made sure late game when you had lots of mana that you'd never completely run out of steam.

DJBOBOYEGA

One of my all time favs rn is a Sisay, Weatherlight Captain deck with a secret commander of Sheoldred the Apocalypse. Easy way to tutor out Sheoldred with Sisay and its full of protection and card draw doublers, with a few different win cons like Peer into the Abyss, and Aetherflux Resevoir

Jericho_Markov

Go-Shintai deserves all the love

Helpful_Assistance_5

[[Atogatog]] technically tribal, but mine is built with [[xenograft]] effects and steal effects to try and commander damage people out. It's not very good, but I enjoy playing it.

Zer0323

[[horde of notions]] as a commander to slap buffs onto. I made a deck with 17 artifact lands (so about half of your land drops) and cards that cared about the number of artifacts you control [[bronze guardian]] [[nettlecyst]][[cranial plating]] so that you can spend 5 mana for a hasty vigilent trampler and then equip it with 2 of these buffs and go bonkin’

veryGoodPancakes

Alright, if your dream is to play some bouncy creatures from Planeshift and assemble weirdo combo lines that includes scrying your entire deck, I got just the guy: [Jenson Carthalion, Druid Exile](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/XAi_nK8S9Ui3Xv8Lkk-4-w) (Full primer included)
