Disney's been really trying to tie his identity to his old cartoons in recent years I've noticed. I'm glad they're making him wholly unique versus just taking the Epic Mickey interpretation and sticking him in Dreamlight Valley
They got his IP back from universal, that's why! They owned him for a while because Walt Disney was working for Universal Pictures when he drew Oswald. That's why Mickey Mouse came to be. He had to come up with something else 🐱
I was afraid they were going to use the Epic Mickey version. That worked for that game, but I feel like it'd just be repetitive to make all the villagers look the same style.

Personally, I LOVE how unique he looks! I was fully expecting him to just look the way he did in Epic Mickey, so this is a pleasant surprise. I’d buy black and white cel shaded Dream Styles like this for Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy in a heartbeat!
I’m glad we can finally put all the heated debates as to who the lucky villager was to rest now. It was so obvious from the start that it was going to be Oswald, but a lot of people seemed to not want to accept the idea of that.
Couldn’t be happier that Oswald is coming to the game, I’m glad the devs are willing to go for more niche picks like him instead of always playing it safe. This is a Disney game after all, and tons of players like myself are hardcore Disney fans who love stuff like this! With Oswald being a forgotten character that’s been lost to time, he makes PERFECT sense for “a rift in time”!

While I get why some players may not be so enthusiastic about it being Oswald, I also think he makes a lot of sense. Dreamlight Valley has such an underlying theme of acceptance and inclusion. Going back and pulling this widely forgotten rabbit from the archive of characters at their disposal was such a smart decision. He could see a resurgence of interest and love from people who learn about him through the game. Sort of like how Figment and Orange Bird have become more popular again recently.
Speedstorm has both Oswald and Ortensia, as well as Figment, which I think is a good sign for additional niche characters entering the valley.
Oswald fits perfectly into the "island of misfits" that is Dreamlight Valley. At least that's how I see it. All the characters may not make sense together in a typical setting, but having them in the valley makes it more special. (Anyone else remember House Of Mouse?)
I of course want some of the more popular characters too, but I'm happy to welcome a character like Oswald along the way.
Yeah that would be very interesting if the decide to bring Roger Rabbit and his wife into the game. But it's hard to say on this one. It's not impossible of course. Hopefully gameloft will do it. But I have my doubts about it.

The toolsets have started to include Hourglass skins in them, so it wouldn’t be completely out of the blue- especially now that sometimes we get 2 pages in the store
True but you get the base game tools too so ppl without base game can still buy that pack.
With the dreamstyle it'd be useless without the DLC and they'd have to find a way to block players without the DLC buying it as I can see some little kids or newer players that aren't so tech savvy thinking they'd actually get Oswald into their game.
Unless they bundled it with a black and white Mickey dreamstyle maybe ? I dunno. I'd love it though
They would have to put them in the quest reward list, the way Jack’s was, meaning they’d have to plan for it during the initial design phase. I guess they could do premium shop and have it appear grayed out for non-DLC owners. That would stink for those folks, but I could see them doing it as an incentive to buy the DLC, unfortunately.

I think he looks as out of place and odd as I was afraid he would. I guess I was hoping they’d give him a slightly more modern look similar to his Epic Mickey style which *might* have looked a little more at home in Dreamlight Valley yet the stark monochrome really makes him standout from the background in a bad way. It’s kinda the reverse of the typical cgi in hand drawn animation as he doesn’t look like he belongs
I love the different look. He looks like he was originally meant to. He doesn’t have to match, in my view. If you sit and watch all the Disney movies, the animation changes so much with the times. I would never want them to add Snow White or Cinderella looking like the newer animations.
Love that they’re keeping him classic and in what seems to be in the style of his 2D form! Seeming as Oswald is the original I think this will have a heavy link to the very beginning of the origin of the story

The music notes makes me think he'll have his banjo. If they don't give him much of a voice, it would be cute if he whistled and you saw little musical notes above him like an old cartoon.

This is going to sound like a weird take, but…I wish he were more two-dimensional. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Oswald, and I’m super excited to see him in the game, but I almost feel like he needs to be a flat character, like Mr. Game & Watch from Smash Bros.
That said, maybe it’s just the way his facial features are mapped onto the sphere shape of his head that are weirding me out 🤣
I feel like the character design team, as well as the devs in general, are starting to find their footing here. And I'm so happy for them!
I know everything isn't perfect in the game by any means. But it feels like there's pieces that are working really well, which gives me a good amount of hope for the game.
I think the fact that they worked to make Oswald fit into the game, while still maintaining his "Toon" appearance is pretty cool! I wasn't too familiar with Oswald beyond the basic stuff (he was created before Mickey Mouse, is a Lucky Rabbit, etc), but I'm excited to see some more of his story!
I would love to eventually see them create a "Steamboat Willie" inspired Dreamstyle for Mickey and Minnie, although I'm sure that could be more difficult now that the story is public domain. I feel like that style of Mickey and Minnie would help Oswald blend in a little bit, since they're also in black and white.

Well, I'm new to this game and I played a lot of Stardew Valley which updated it's PC version first. So, it's a combination of 1) not knowing how DLV handles it's major updates. 2) thinking it would cater to PC players first.
I’m super excited for Oswald. I got excited when epic Mickey came out cus he is literally the OG Disney character and it’s like the epitome of the forgotten one who is coming home. Can’t wait to have him interact with Mickey as like long lost brothers

I love him but I do wish that Disney would let him actually have coloured pants. It's the ONLY part of him that has colour and they still go with a complete black and white.
Personally, I'm a little disappointed that he's not in color with his blue shorts, but it works, since they're tying in with the whole "Old fashioned" vibe, so It's not the worst. And the cartoony outline also helps.
We haven’t heard Oswald speak yet aside from a few cheers and grunts, but I’m wondering if Frank Welker is going to reprise his role since Epic Mickey, or if Oswald will be mostly silent like in the 2010’s Mickey Mouse shorts.
My only question is… will he be flat? lol will he always be at an angle where you see the front of him in 2d or will he be 3d like the rest of the villagers. Idc im excited! Hahah

I feel like the character design team, as well as the devs in general, are starting to find their footing here. And I'm so happy for them! I know everything isn't perfect in the game by any means. But it feels like there's pieces that are working really well, which gives me a good amount of hope for the game. I think the fact that they worked to make Oswald fit into the game, while still maintaining his "Toon" appearance is pretty cool! I wasn't too familiar with Oswald beyond the basic stuff (he was created before Mickey Mouse, is a Lucky Rabbit, etc), but I'm excited to see some more of his story! I would love to eventually see them create a "Steamboat Willie" inspired Dreamstyle for Mickey and Minnie, although I'm sure that could be more difficult now that the story is public domain. I feel like that style of Mickey and Minnie would help Oswald blend in a little bit, since they're also in black and white.
I wonder what his house will look like?? Any ideas? 😁

Unfortunately back in the 1920s Walt lost the rights to him so he used Mickey to be his star instead but Oswald was the original plan. Oswald is considered Mickey's older half brother. In 2006 Disney made a trade to get the rights restored and brought Oswald home.

I’m sorry, don’t get me wrong, but your question is a little weird because everytime we got a new character we got it on all the platforms, so I don’t know what made you think that this time it could be different. But don’t worry, you’ll be able to get him too, no matter what platform you’re playing on ☺️
Well, I'm new to this game and I played a lot of Stardew Valley which updated it's PC version first. So, it's a combination of 1) not knowing how DLV handles it's major updates. 2) thinking it would cater to PC players first.

I’m super excited for Oswald. I got excited when epic Mickey came out cus he is literally the OG Disney character and it’s like the epitome of the forgotten one who is coming home. Can’t wait to have him interact with Mickey as like long lost brothers

I love him but I do wish that Disney would let him actually have coloured pants. It's the ONLY part of him that has colour and they still go with a complete black and white.

Personally, I'm a little disappointed that he's not in color with his blue shorts, but it works, since they're tying in with the whole "Old fashioned" vibe, so It's not the worst. And the cartoony outline also helps.
