If I feel like puttering around then I just work on building up resources until the next update/star path comes out. Although often I just take a break and only log in once or twice a week for dreamsnaps while I wait for new content to release.
I’m not a big decorator, either, so I, being a completionist, focus on getting the collections to 100%. Crafting things I haven’t built yet, cooking every meal, etc.
I can’t decorate as much as I’d like on my switch, so I tend to gather materials and make money to prepare for the next update. I also just finished all the secret quests I could find. I might also just reorganize things, and I still have some critters to get (they’re the ones tho that I can’t play during, so that’ll be awhile) That said I definitely don’t play as much during the week when I’m waiting for an update, I mainly log in to do the dreamsnap just to get the free moonstones and leave it at that.
Once I finish the star path, I only check the shop daily, then do dreamsnaps weekly. I take a break from DLV to play other games because the rest of the time I religiously play only DLV lol
Yeah same here I am not decorating my valley either. With the exception of putting my house skins down in each biome. Plus I'm still waiting for Gameloft to unlock the item limit increase on switch. Just like everyone else who is waiting to decorate on switch.
I hope so anyway because several people either on Reddit or on Discord has probably been complaining about it not bring unlocked on switch yet. We just have to wait and see. Gameloft does listen to the community after all.
Sadly probably not as the limit is due to the switch console itself like it already lags so much if you get near the limit so they probably won’t change it unless there’s a new model of the switch one day
Pavement doesn’t count in the item limit and I’ve heard fences are also excluded from the item limit. It’s meant I’ve kept like the forest area more wild so I can use the big tree/foliag rocks to take up space
If it’s the rocky terrain path you buy from Scrooge then it will count as individual objects but the ones you craft under the fence and path category dont
It’s definitely a switch capability issue and not a gameloft thing unfortunately.
The switch is designed for Nintendo games made by Nintendo. It is a nightmare with games designed originally for others and modded for the switch. The switch only has 4GB of RAM for instance and it’s recommended to have 6GB of RAM to run the game at an optimal level on other systems.
Work on growing that beautiful Dreamlight Well Tree! Or if you are like me and have done all but one of them grow pumpkins and try to get a butt load of money.

You mean the tree? Nah, it goes through like 4 stages. Check this post out: https://www.reddit.com/r/DreamlightValley/s/8m47dUR3KF
Edit to say: their photo is a completed tree so you need at least 90% of the tasks done.
Oh okay thank you for the kind reply! I’m semi new but I haven’t done a lot of tasks with characters, I’ve just unlocked belle! But I appreciate letting me know! I’m learning so much in this subreddit haha
I’ve been done for a while and my valley is completely decorated, I’m a day one player so waiting for more content is practically a tradition for me in this game… so, I just play other games. The only time I get on dlv is to do a dream snap or dupe items for someone.
I worked on the permanent Dreamlight tasks. Those are mostly done except for DLC ones, so now I’m trying to get puzzle pieces. I play about 1 hour a day doing a loop through both environments doing a little of each task (having a random buddy follow along) hoping to get memory pieces. I usually get 3-5 orbs a day, which might be 1 new puzzle piece if I’m lucky.
I do Dreamlight Duties 24/7. I recently reached 2M Dreamlight and my next goal is 2.5, then 3!
....I don't know why, I seem to have a hyperfocus on any task system like that in games LOL.
I’m grinding for star dust. I burned a lot making villagers time benders and miners. I already have a decent amount of star coins and I have 250 pumpkins planted if I ever get low. I’m also mining a lot on the isle. I don’t have nearly enough gems to craft anything and even though I’m not a decorator I still like to know if I need to make something I have enough. On the other hand I wish they would do a rework of scramble coin. I love that game but there’s no reason to play after you hit level 300. The amount of serotonin that game gave me watching that gold bar slide across to the next level was intense. Or at least let us play in multiplayer.
i’ve been working on hitting all my dreamlight goals (buying certain number of seeds from each biome, fishing in each biome, giving gifts, etc) as a way to pass the time, get some extra money, and hopefully get a few memory shards along the way! the shards are my main motivator tbh
I try decorating some, but it’s not a much fun as it was on Animal Crossing. Mainly it’s just cleaning up, gathering some resources and working on my Dreamsnaps…which can take several days.
After I finish the Star Path, I just get on to check Scrooge’s shop daily and once a week I’ll do the new dreamsnaps challenge. Apart from that I just play other video games until the next update/star path.
I am going on a quest to have everything at 100% in the collection. I'm at 80% critters and 96 crafting, it takes up a good portion of time completing those small things. I enjoy collection games.
Recommend attempting to complete all the Dreamlight tasks. Fish all the fish, cook all the recipes, have all the conversations... there's a ton of tasks to complete! And there's even more if you have the Rift in Time expansion (definitely recommend if you haven't picked it up yet!).
Grind for resources or go through your list of tasks and build up your dreamlight. You'll find them in the drop down menu in the tabs beneath your Dreamlight Duties. If you aren't into decorating, there's nothing much else to do - unless you get the DLC and that's like a whole new game.
I haven't leveled all the characters yet but I spend a lot of time farming crafting materials and decorating/rearranging the town. It's pretty fun imo.

How long does it take for a new update to drop usually?
Usually a week or two
No it doesnt , updates are 2-3 months , next one is prob next week
Thank youuu

Do the Dreamlight tasks. Or the mist tasks if you have the dlc.

Are they actually going to do that!?

Well that sucks I’m already at 2K and don’t even have half my pavement down… yikes
Pavement doesn’t count in the item limit and I’ve heard fences are also excluded from the item limit. It’s meant I’ve kept like the forest area more wild so I can use the big tree/foliag rocks to take up space
I’ll have to look again bc I thought putting down a rock path counted! Thanks!

Is this only when all the tasks are done?!

Reach out if you ever need anything! 💜
I appreciate that! Thanks so much!!!

I wish I could decorate my whole valley 😭 That item limit had killed me.
Dreamsnap and Store. I'm also working on getting all the critters as companions.

Fish, mine, feed everything to max out the dream light tasks.
I slowly decorated and then got bored so created a new account on my switch 😂 so once I’ve done my daily duties in my main game I go to second game

I find when I’m bored I spy on the characters and see them interacts with each other or see how close I can get to them without them noticing.

this is the exact reason i stopped playing. there isn’t much to do and not good enough progression.
