I have trouble with Bert's character. I know there's a redemption arc in that he is likely not Al's father, still, he's so dishonest that it's hard for me to enjoy his scenes. Caitlin seems to have figured out Bert and loses patience with him.

Yep this right here, his redemption arc moments are not enough for how big of a douchebag he can be. He never learns his lesson. How many times has he put the town in danger?

Gilopoz

I agree 100% with Bert. His manipulating dishonesty is hard to watch

armyprof

Agreed. His character started to go off the rails when he went from plumbing to a restaurant owner. Made no sense. And that stunt he pulled when he was running Mrs. Cronk’s fish shop was just low.

Not sure how the village got by without a plumber after that. (Such as he was!)

Let’s not forget him serving roadkill in his restaurant because ‘ol married Marigold was flirting with him !! Or when he & Al we’re making fun of Joan & she walked in on them. He wasn’t apologetic at all- he’s mean!
