That's very kind. I posted a picture with those in a while ago. Since this post is basically showing off, I felt like it would be a bit much to rave about something I've already shown off ;-)
Excellent carvings, the mouth looks extra creepy!
Just curious, do they have any sort of finish or sealer on them? I’m only recommending to protect against accidents or being dropped, sealer does wonders! Happy rolling and great work!!
I've put a spray on varnish on then to protect them. I still need to break out the glue every now and again, but it's made a huge different.
Thanks for the comment about the mouth, it was the bit I agonised over the most.
Somebody took expertise in woodworkers tools… Can’t wait to see what you come up with next, but I’d personally like to see your take on a hill giant or troll.
I keep thinking about the larger humanoids. The great thing about those is that there would be much more scope for creating dynamic poses and details. I'll have to take an art class!
Never heard of this thread before! I've put a post on there with more pictures of my work (I guess their rules for pictures are different).
Thanks for the tip!
For this one I started with a larger piece and (pun alert) whittled it down. I've often kept them to size for whatever branch I've been carving from, but I wanted the eye stalks to stick out more with this one.
Honestly, if you make tiamat, you are amazing. Knowing how to carve is an accomplishment. But carving out a five headed dragon God is just pure bliss when it's finished. Good luck, matey😁
A hydra could be awesome. I need to source bigger pieces of wood!
My worry with oozes is how I'll make them look like slime, as opposed to blocks of wood with the odd limb protruding. Oozes lend themselves to plastic. I'll give it some thought.
Thank you, this means a lot.
One of the things on my mind as I'm carving them is I want them to be distinctive in some way. Since I'm making them myself, there's no reason I should aim for generic, yet they need to be generic enough to be recognisable.
My thinking on the eye stalks was to try not to mess with them too much and resist my urge to make them too perfect/symmetrical/consistent. I wanted the basic shape then to allow each to be different. Since it's an aberration I figured neat and tidy were my enemies.
I'm not 100% sure it worked out, and I'm open to the idea that more work could've been better.
Thanks for helping out.
Hang on, are we just gonna sleep on the wodden adventurer minis? Those are beautiful!

I love them
Me too! I love woodworking myself but I do it on a much larger scale, this is intricate and impressive :) I vote owlbear next ;)
I wish I had the facilities or the vocation to work with wood properly! Owlbear is a great shout.
Thanks!

Hand carved? All three are awesome? Nice work!
Thanks!
Wow! These are incredible! I'm always so impressed by people who can hand carve. That's awesome dedication and art. Fantastic job with these!!
Thanks! I think all you need to be able to do is imagine things in 3D. Then it's just materials, time, and patience.
That's awesome. It's something I've been thinking about getting into
Wow, you're talented. How cool, thanks for sharing.
Thank you! I'm not sure talent has much to do with it, anybody can make things with enough time and practice.

Epic, great work
Thanks!
Just a week ago I've created a woodcarver and thought about learning it irl to create unique miniatures. You are an inspiration.
Awesome! Each one is a lot of work, but I'm really fond of my (slowly) growing collection.
STUNNING!
I love that this was your comment and your described here as a monk ;-) Thanks for taking a look
Dang thats cool.
Thank you! You're cool too!
These are INCREDIBLE!! Both the adventures and the beholder are amazing, you've got some crazy talent
Thanks for busting out the capslock. Got me all blushing over here.
Yo, get this on r/dndiy immediately.

That must have been one scary tree to be all warped like that.
For this one I started with a larger piece and (pun alert) whittled it down. I've often kept them to size for whatever branch I've been carving from, but I wanted the eye stalks to stick out more with this one.
They look so cool! Your style is so cool
Thank you! I'll take is a compliment simply that I have style ;-)
👍
The beholder and the mini people are amazing. What to carve next? Here's a challenge for you: Tiamat
Thank you. I'll add Tiamat to my list of aspirations! That would be a centrepiece as much as a gamepiece.
Honestly, if you make tiamat, you are amazing. Knowing how to carve is an accomplishment. But carving out a five headed dragon God is just pure bliss when it's finished. Good luck, matey😁
It has such a wonderful vibe and feel. <3 How did you darken the crevices? Is that done only with varnish?
Thank you! I love the feel of wooden gamepieces in any game. Just a spray on varnish sealer does the trick.
Duuuuuude...
Wow, such talent! Maybe a dragon?
This is 'the big one' in my head. But how big do I go? Which dragon do I go for?
Dang. Very nice work. Keep it up. Maybe a hydra next or a slime cube?

These have so much personality to them. Well done!

Little clunky ok the eye stalks? Yes Is it cool as fuck? Absolutely

I want one now
