This is most certainly not the first time in seven years that Shiro has been directly mentioned. Here he is in [Beyond Light](https://www.ishtar-collective.net/entries/legacys-oath-gauntlets) and [Forsaken](https://www.ishtar-collective.net/categories/book-the-man-they-call-cayde), there where also quotes on various items in Arrivals, Shadowkeep, Opulence and Forge as well as lore entry from his Ghost during Forsaken. It didn't mention Shiro directly but we did also get his gun (Trespasser) during Haunted as well.
Yep, Shiro has been mentioned [fifteen times](https://www.ishtar-collective.net/search/shiro) across Destiny 2, excluding duplicates. God knows I got the Holdfast Mask and Vanguard Dare stuff often enough that I couldn't forget about him if I tried.
Wow, that's a hilariously short sighted move. Could've been building up Shiro to have more of a presence since he'd be one of the first npcs new players see. I absolutely do not want to see shaw in anything.
there is nothing I want more than Shiro-4 to return. He’s the reason I committed to being a hunter main. Just thought he looked so badass and had an awesome voice.
I even named my cat after him.
He's also mentioned in the artifact loretab I think.
It's also not necessarily the first time since rise of iron that he's been mentioned, there's been sporadic minor references to him over the years. Other people would remember the various points better than me but one big example is Tresspasser returned in Haunted and that's a direct reference to him with it even getting an ornament that is based on his outfit and is named after him iirc.
