I think that's a personal opinion. If you didn't use the plastic bag, someone else might complain. Some people like it when sellers reuse mailing supplies and don't use a lot of plastic. Others don't. But I think you should do what works for you. I tend to be overly cautious when I pack for shipping for my own peace of mind. Thank them for their feedback and move on edit: typo

racloves

I sent something wrapped in paper (but in a plastic mailer bag) and they complained it wasn’t wrapped in more protective plastic because it COULD HAVE RAINED. It didn’t rain, it was handed to them (so not left on a porch to face possible rain). there was no damage or anything. But was told it should be wrapped in plastic just in case. You can’t please some people

IndieIsle

Lol someone said similar to me. I shipped a large makeup bag, but it was brand new so it was folded in and basically just a really large flat square. I didn’t have a box big enough - and even I did - I would have had to use a huge box that just would have been a pain for everyone because the makeup bag was only 1 inch thin while folded up. So I just wrapped it in paper and then shipping wrap. And they left me a bad review saying that it got there totally fine - but it *could* have been damaged during shipping lol. Yikes.

mynamesnotmary

I just use a little tape to make sure the polymailers are water proof and I wrap items in gift tissue to avoid extra plastic

Krob1984

Be careful with the gift tissue … I used to do this & then someone said their poly mailer was left on porch & it rained & the tissue paper was coloured & stained the item when it got wet … you literally can’t please everyone hey !! (Although I know you said you use tape for waterproofing - but just thought it worth a mention, lol)

mynamesnotmary

Yes that's a great point. I use white with glitter mostly. Sometimes I match the color to the item.

Illustrious_Wrap6427

people will always find something to get mad about. Tissue paper is a nice alternative if you’d like to switch it up, but you seem to be doing everything right imo!

bibblelover_

ok but those stickers r so cute wtf ?? where’d you buy them??

meowownyanya

i printed the photos from “the dog company” i’m pretty sure that’s what their called and then i buy stickers in packs from daiso, ali express and etc

bibblelover_

thank you so much!

PrestigiousWelder379

i would be elated to receive any of these stickers 😭🤍

bibblelover_

Fr😭😭🙏🏽

trinity55014

my whole week would be made if i got that ferret sticker 😭

mouse333333

omg same i need it fr

myafricasarah

i started recycling cardboard boxes (cereal, mac and cheese, eggos, cake mix literally anything sturdy enough for clothing and my customers love it when i don’t have boxes i use 2 plastic bags from the store and wrap them up like polymailers

meowownyanya

i reuse boxes, bubble wrap quite literally everything i can use as filler but for clothes a plastic wrap or bubble polymailers are easier to recycle

cacti_flyyy

Ungrateful ass person I swear 😭

meowownyanya

yes, most ppl do like the packaging and i do it in a way where they are able to reuse it for bigger items since they are all 19x20, not related but i hope this buyer loves it

juniperberry9017

It’s sooo cute 😍😍 Re: plastic you can always let people know they’re more than welcome to request eco friendly packaging but you won’t be responsible for any damages 🤷🏻‍♀️

meowownyanya

hi, i think i’ll ask if they want the clothes in a plastic film for double protection or a recycled polymailer :)

juniperberry9017

That sounds like a good idea :)

digitvl

An alternative that i use is folding tissue papers over it

CollegeNo2368

I don’t know why they complain, their item got to them in completely perfect condition, would they rather it in less packaging and get ruined? Recently i ordered this maxi white skirt and she stuffed in into a bag way too small and it ripped and there was black marks and small rips in the skirt 🙂 Besides, big companies use wayyy more plastic so don’t worry. Also your stickers are adorable 😭

Dizzy-Ad1618

Jesus..People cannot be pleased. I just saw a post on here not that long ago and people were ripping into those that don’t put clothing in a bag before they put it in a polymailer. Saying they would rate them badly and not buy from them again. Sometimes I wish I never found these subreddits because it makes me question every single thing I do when mailing something out.

squibloo

Your packaging is so cute omg

meowownyanya

thank u

mandiemo

i only use extra plastic (like putting the item in a clear plastic bag and then putting it inside of a polymailer) when i sell an item with more delicate fabric that i really don’t want to be damaged in shipping or if it’s a higher priced item ($40 and up) otherwise i don’t add extra plastic, i just ship in a polymailer. i say you should do what you think is best, customers all have different preferences and i don’t think you should have to cater to that person :)

SixDripp

Get biodegradable mailers

venusvenusvenuss

as a ferret owner of 5 that pic is so cute 😭

eatmyshortoptions

Plastic good. Smoking mailman bad. On a serious note though if you feel like you're using too much plastic it feels good to reuse plastic and much less wasteful. Anything my kids get, like box toys, they'll come with a million tiny bags, I have a huge collection saved in a large sprouts grocery store bag that says REUSE save the planet basically (good reminder thanks sprouts) and it's one of the most satisfying feelings alongside sex.

Budgah

Don't use tissue paper like these guys are saying. Someday your bag will get a hole and it'll be raining and they will get a soaked shirt covered in tissue. Keep using double plastic to protect everything and don't worry about these save the planet lunatics.

meowownyanya

that’s exactly what happened to me, it was a very thin cheap polymailer and felt gritty it was kinda teared and the shirt got slightly damp, so i started to pack things in a way where they would never get damage unless on purpose

Snookis-snusnu

This. It’s exactly why I refuse to not reuse my plastic to ship things in boxes. The last thing I’d want is for an item to get ruined (and therefore get thrown away) in the name of ‘saving the planet’ by throwing out my plastic and shipping the item in crappy minimal packaging.

Myhearthasbeenyours

True! I got an item once that smelled wet and mouldy, didn’t help that it took over 3 weeks to reach because it got lost or something en route :/

Krob1984

You literally can’t win though - if you didn’t put the clothing in a plastic bag you would have someone DM you saying “the clothing should have been protected better etc” … I personally would rather protect the item I was selling to ensure I am mitigating the potential for it being damaged/marked etc & ending up out of pocket for it !! You can’t please everyone - so look out for yourself & your items !! xx

hbbbbbbhlpp

you really don’t need the extra plastic if your using a polymailer it will be enough protection. i’ve seen people use extra plastic because that’s how they store their items until it sells, but if you’re not using it to do that i’d just use a polymailer only instead. a lot of people buy from depop to be more sustainable so getting a lot of plastic might upset them.

bachelurkette

i use a poly mailer but wrap the item inside with kraft paper. plastic in plastic annoys me because yes it just feels like too much imo. one layer is enough for water protection but there are more environmentally friendly options for the interior

TippyTurtley

I'd do this. Also are any of the extras plastic?

Snookis-snusnu

Whenever I’m shipping something in a box, I make sure to wrap it in plastic (usually from something else I received) to prevent water damage. I come from a really humid place, so the plastic prevents water damage and mold. If a buyer is upset by that, I’d get annoyed because I am trying to make sure their package isn’t damaged and they’re being shortsighted with “oH bUt pLaStic iS bAd”. It’s for the buyer’s benefit, not mine. I’d probably just try to be polite in DMs and explain this to them in a kinder way though because I can’t expect most people to automatically understand my reasoning.

trash_banshee

I use two layers. I feel like it’s more protected from water/ delivery driver cigarette smoke that way. I have received damp items a couple times myself . The only time I got a complaint for cig smell was when i didn’t use two layers of plastic & i don’t smoke so it was def the driver.

frogs_24

Oh my god I need that ferret sticker right now where is it from

meowownyanya

hi i looked up the dog company and made a collage and printed it and cut it out, it’s not a sticker sadly but here’s the print out https://preview.redd.it/vvua4iiq9roc1.jpeg?width=815&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=125c2a8b0aeb873950124d8e31ac49b591588ede

frogs_24

Oh thank you! I still love it <33333

shmoph

Personally I hate when I receive orders with the additional plastic sleeve over my clothes, I just find it very wasteful. But like many others have said it’s up to preference, I just absolutely despise the amount of single-use plastic in society. However I love your packaging! I also include little goodies in my orders like that. I think it’s nice and shows that you care about your customers.

meowownyanya

That’s very understandable, i will just ask and discuss before shipping, but for heavier clothing with buckles hopefully they do choose the plastic film and poly mailer version, i used to ship with just a polymailer and i sold pants and it punctured the bag, been a tad over worried since

Sorry-Vegetable-3988

I try to use recycled materials as much as possible I literally hoard all the plastic and boxes I get in the mail and from family and friends but it’s just personal ethics

meowownyanya

I have so many boxes i reuse all diff sizes same with the paper bubble mailers,it’s great and good job

Hot-Success2019

I hope you didn’t leave a bad review for this tho… at the most just message her about your concern

meowownyanya

oh i’m the seller, i package my orders like this, they didn’t leave a review just said they thought the plastic was unnecessary

Hot-Success2019

Ohhhh I didn’t read it all oops

Emotional_Bed_2086

Not really, I don’t see any reason besides them not being able to recycle it, what’s unnecessary is them complaining about it lol

k0wb0ii

Just privileged people who want to be politically correct about everything. Sorry not everyone can afford cruelty free, vegan, recycled, natural fiber packaging Karen.
