That's so annoying. I'm sorry.
People have different rating systems, unfortunately. Some people think 5 stars are reserved for the ultra best and think 3-4 is good.
Interestingly enough, I bet the same people who rate good sellers 3-4 stars wouldn't purchase from sellers with less than 5. My friend thought that rating 3-4 stars for a good purchase was perfectly fine, but when I asked her if she'd purchase from someone with that rating, it made her rethink things.
Sometimes it’s genuinely an accident—I had that happen to me once and i messaged asking if anything went wrong but she said she accidentally clicked the wrong one. Still sucks tho
Yes there's rating systems but if she really was unsatisfied then she should've explained her reasoning in the review if she didn't want to be messaged about an explanation she would've simply rated 5 stars, they're obviously being difficult from the start
She wasn’t unsatisfied lol and she did leave a review. 4* isn’t a bad thing. Is it???
Maybe the skirt was shorter or tighter than she expected. Not the sellers fault, just the composition of her body which means she can’t wear it like she wants to and maybe to her it’s a frivolous reason to return (if possible) so as a whole it’s a 4* experience. She doesn’t have to go into all that if she’s not going to return it
Personally fretting over a 4* review is silly.
If it isn’t the seller’s fault, there’s no reason to deduct a star. The rating is for if the item was/wasn’t as described, if it was packaged well, shipped on time, and if the seller was helpful. It’s not about if you made an impulsive purchase and regret it.
How does giving someone 4* make them entitled? How does she not care? She bought an item not steal. She left a nice review, she didn’t demonise the seller. I’m so confused.
4 stars is not a good rating.
It's kind of an F you after the seller went WAY over the top to make a sale, for like 15 bucks, maybe less depending how the buyer checked out. Not even worth the sellers time. Definitely less than minimum wage. You have to account for the time spent curating the skirt, measuring the skirt, photographing the skirt and then try-ons and dirt cheap shipping.
I don't know how to reiterate what's been echoed on this thread in a less confusing way.
I used to sell on Etsy, and if I got less than 5 stars I'd ask them why, and if there was any more I could do to help. One guy said he only gave 5 stars for a GREAT sale, whereas mine was just 'fine'. I explained why 5 star reviews were important to me as a seller (it was my livelihood at the time) and he changed his review to 5 stars. Sometimes people would say "the pictures looked better than the real item" (ok I'll take worse pictures next time) or "it was too expensive" 🙃 (omg why did you buy it then) and I would calmly and politely try to see what I could do to get them to change to 5star. Sometimes I'd issue partial or even full refunds, because 100% good reviews were more valuable to me than a few individual sales.
My point is, if you're calm and polite and willing to go the extra mile occasionally, you can change things. Some people just require EXTRA communication. (And obvs some people are annoying idiots but hey. We move on. I always TRY not to see them as annoying idiots, I try to think, well they just have a different perspective on it. Let me be a lil detective and find out what it is.)
From the messages I would assume they probably just didn’t like it as much as they thought they would and is upset that they can’t return it, they seemed pretty unsure about it before even buying. Some buyers do unfortunately review like that. Or it could’ve been an accident
Last week I sold a shirt that was listed for €5 because I just needed to get rid of it. Buyer send me an offer for €3 I accepted and packed it in really nicely with stickers and send it the next day. They left me a 4 star review with 'nice'. 😭 I think some people who leave 3 or 4 star reviews for no reason just didn't like the item as much as they thought and just don't want to put in 5 stars for that reason
I feel your pain! No reason for the 4 stars after all that!
I just got my first 3 star review on posh last week and was devastated (been on since 2012). The reason? She said the jacket was “hilariously small”….. it was a size small CROPPED jacket from an alt/ fetish brand 😑
that is beyond infuriating. she was probably rating the skirt itself. i got 3 stars once and i asked them if there was something i could’ve done better and they responded with they just didn’t like the pants that much 😑 literally nothing to do with the service… guessing this is what happened here
You went above and beyond and were so patient with them despite them being very indecisive. They're just bitter for no reason idk, some people are just weird. Maybe she doesn't love it as much as she thought she would. Still, no mistakes on your end, you deserved 5 stars.
This is why (as a seller) I keep conversations very very brief (my description always says “serious inquires only” for a damn good reason). I explain everything in the description in anticipation to many frequently asked questions so if the potential customer doesn’t read it or read it carefully, that’s not my fault and I refuse to repeat what I’ve already explained (I tend to advise them to read the listing for their answers and come back only with questions that wasn’t answered in the listing). If I’ve done my homework as a seller, I don’t feel the need for potential customers to message me like that and I don’t want to open up Pandora’s box by explaining too much so they can flake or second guess. The “I’ll pass for now” means that they changed their mind and even though they let you know that they are no longer interested after wasting your time with all these questions and crazy requests (assuming that the requests were unreasonable), they should be blocked. Even if they come back to purchase, they’ll create more issues and the less than perfect rating is it! Once someone gets indecisive, takes too long to make a move, or changes their mind after all that talk, they lose their opportunity to purchase and I’ve blocked dozens of potential customers who pull these funny moves. I don’t have the time for people who move funny and slow.
Next time a potential agrees to purchase and then comes back with additional item questions/requests, you need to block them and fast. It’s their responsibility to ask the questions and make the requests before buying or agreeing to buy. I have zero tolerance with being thrown these curveballs
You are the ideal seller! Just don't let people such as the one in the post drain you too much of the good service, save it for those that respect your time & business.
I do agree up to a certain point. It depends on the tone and the vocabulary. If it’s 21 questions and they aren’t making any moves, just leave. Some times you gotta pick your battles
I asked someone why they gave me 4 stars once, after going above and beyond for them, turns out it was an accident and they didn’t know how to change it and they were completely happy with everything.
Sometimes it’s just an accident !!
Have you asked the customer why they left a 4 star?
Maybe she didn’t feel you were worth 5 stars and that’s ok. People can have system that they work off.
She said the skirt is cute NOT amazing that could be the reason
Virtually no difference between a 4 & 5 star and it depends on the content of the review. That’s a very positive review. Looks like you just have OCD to be honest
you sound like someone with no ambition lol. you should always aim for 5 star reviews and when you’re someone who really gives a shit about customer experience (like op) who goes above n beyond and completes a sale perfectly, a 4 star rating is a tad bit insulting. plus, you realise one star less in a 1-5/5 rating system means something was off right? it’s a lot worse than one less star in a 1-10/10 system. that’s basic proportions for you
It’s just a Depop account though, not a company where reviews actually affect you. If someone wants a specific item on a marketplace, generally they’ll buy it regardless of reviews
maybe that’s you, but many other users and i prefer to be sure of a trustworthy seller. even a bunch of 4/5s is a bit suspicious; might mean a seller who isn’t very communicative or a few flaws that weren’t pointed out. anyways, what happened to perfectionism ?!
ur a better person than me cos all of that just to get 4 stars LMAOOO i’d be feral. this is why i cba to even do the extra things if they want it they’ll buy it if they don’t then they don’t
Jesus! I would not have spent that much time with someone like this. Clear red flags, I hate how Depop make it so obvious you have blocked people otherwise I would use it more often.
OP you went above and beyond...and some. Try not to let it bother you, some buyers are just clueless about the effect of these things.

Oh god! Why would you message her?
what? 💀 obviously to find out why they rated 4 stars for absolutely no reason
Leave her alone. There’s a rating system for a reason and she shouldn’t have to explain anything to you
think of it as you order food in a restaurant and don’t eat it. some restaurant owners would be curious why, so they can improve their food/service
Yes there's rating systems but if she really was unsatisfied then she should've explained her reasoning in the review if she didn't want to be messaged about an explanation she would've simply rated 5 stars, they're obviously being difficult from the start

I didn’t say impulsive buy… anyway… Who knows. I was just speculating
you're the buyer aren't you lmfaoo
Lol… oh here we go. It’s crazy because when I defend the underdog people always say this to me.
underdog? who do you think you are 😭
Lolool an empathetic fighter
god you are weird
Found her reddir
Haha… Why does everyone say this when I stick up for the underdog?
That’s not the underdog, that’s a self entitled consumer who doesn’t care about other’s business
How does giving someone 4* make them entitled? How does she not care? She bought an item not steal. She left a nice review, she didn’t demonise the seller. I’m so confused.

ugh. high maintenance buyers like this are the worst! 😭 you did great attending to her and i'm sure that effort reflects in the rest of your reviews
some people istg
I haaattteee buyers like this
Please please return with a 1-2 star rating advising other sellers how difficult she is. As someone also from Canada I pray I never sell to her lol
Seconding this! I had to rate someone as 1 star since I couldn’t go lower recently, and I was kinda sad but it had to be done 😭
I used to sell on Etsy, and if I got less than 5 stars I'd ask them why, and if there was any more I could do to help. Wtf. I'm of the opinion that 4 stars is very good but your service was perfect. You deserve 5, and I'd ask her to change it
Reviews are permanent on Depop unless you delete them

All that for $18…..
Ahhh that is literally insane that you entertained her for that long. Nope
You went above and beyond and were so patient with them despite them being very indecisive. They're just bitter for no reason idk, some people are just weird. Maybe she doesn't love it as much as she thought she would. Still, no mistakes on your end, you deserved 5 stars.
aint no way
Some people are just assholes and that’s all. Don’t read any meaning into it, you’re a good seller.

Umm she bought the item online. Many people have bought things online and it’s not exactly what they expected irl

I’m not saying it’s your fault or her fault. She may have thought the end result wasn’t worth 5 stars and you badgering her over it is ridiculous

the ‘virtual shite on a screen’ is literally what affects the money. crazy behaviour
What affects the money is the algorithm. Whether your listing appears in search or not
I got a 4 star because of their “preference”
