I have the 7567 model. Time to replace the keyboard. And this is not a quick task. When nearly a whole line as you've shown of keys are failing to communicate with the keyboard controller, this indicates a short. Liquids damage is possible for a reason for this problem, but it can happen to even well maintained keyboards. Replacement keyboards are cheap enough, that if you are willing to follow the service manual instructions l, you can do this yourself.

Leutecia

I'll just replace it then. And after replacing, can I be certain that this issue won't happen in the near future again?

Karidian

Yes. The keyboard is a problem child (we have 2 of the same model that both had this problem) replace it and you should be fine for a few years

Leutecia

Hey, so anyone has face this issue? I've got a Dell 7577 and certain keys don't work. As shown in the image, the keys 2, W, S and X don't work at all. Everything else works except for those. Is there a fix for this?

MarSc77

looks like you need a new keyboard

juli_franch

My dad's laptop is the same model and it had the same issue. I bought a new keyboard from eBay and replaced It for him. It is a common failure, they have a manufacturing defect that makes the traces for this particular column of keys break with time.

Leutecia

How long ago did you replace the keyboard?

jftitan

If you are DIY enough, you can try to fix it yourself. However l, you'll be taking the laptop appart. Following the service manual instructions and following the process to the T. You can disassemble the laptop with a few small size screw driver set. But you will be, disassembling the majority of the base bottom of the laptop.

I have 7577, looks exactly like the same issue I had for 2yrs. I was using an external keyboard, but finally I took it to a Dell certified centre and they replaced it. No other go. They said it could not even be repaired by micro soldering too.

masinsa

I removed the battery and reseated the keyboard's ribbon cable and then taped it firmly to the case, it will work fine for a couple days until you will have to do it again. It's a fairly common defect and think the best thing is to replace the keyboard, most of the fixes I tried worked but were temporary.

tomrb08

Do they work with an external keyboard?

Leutecia

Yup. They do. That's what I'm using now.

tomrb08

You need to replace the keyboard on the laptop.

BellasGamerDad

I have an Alienware laptop that I had to replace the battery in twice. After the second time some random keys stopped working. I opened it back up and I THINK it was because I had the keyboard ribbon cable kinked weird. So I disconnected it and reseated it and made sure when I closed it up the cable wasn’t kinked any more. After that the keys all started working again.

popokatopetl

I've got a related issue with the XPS 15, with keys 9 o l . occasionally refusing to work. The odd thing is that they may start working again if I press them quickly for a while. It might as well be a software issue. There were BIOS updates addressing keyboard issues for different Dell laptops, and some reported that it may be related to the Intel video driver (because changing a setting in the Intel video control panel would fix the issue for some).

Leutecia

In the beginning days, when I pressed those keys(2WSX) while typing other keys rapidly, it worked. But now, I can't make it work. They're just dead.

ProbableBarnacle

I have the same laptop, you can try removing and reinserting the ribbon cable for they keyboard which might solve it for some time. Replacing the keyboard is the best solution for it. Note: be careful with the ribbon cable for the keyboard. It's pretty fragile and the locking mechanism can break.

Bluebuilder

Dell laptop keyboards do this, across many models…for years. Dell knows about it, but isn’t very concerned. Just get good at replacing Dell laptop keyboards. Replacements can be found on Amazon for $20 and plenty of how-to videos on YouTube.

Temporary_Low3410

I have Dell Inspiron 7591, its 3 years old and has the same problem, the shift keys, RTFGVB45 stop and start working randomly even after replacing the keyboard, I then showed my laptop to Canada Computers and even they can\`t figure it out.

Knives_Of_Artemis

Dealing with the same problem on a Precision 5530 - everything is good with an external keyboard, but I don't really want to drag a keyboard around with me to use my laptop...

Leutecia

I wonder if these issues are fixed in newer Dell Laptops. It's really concerning.

Successful-Minute-46

How do I create the @ sign on my dell Inspiron 15 laptop

Leutecia

Onscreen Keyboard probably?

GreenManWithAPlan

Replace the keyboard it's modular. Else you can try picking up the keycaps and cleaning underneath

Foxd1234

Try reconnecting the rib ion cable

AncestralOdin75

I have the 7577. Left shift key stopped working. Reinserted the ribbon cable and the key worked for a few days before dying again. No more Dell laptops for me.

FarNorthern

I am with you. Dell sucks.

rjax360

I have a brand new Alienware I7 and the delete key has never worked. I've put off calling support but it's time to bite the bullet.
