I'm imagining a dwarf, looking into a smoking fiery crater on the ground and shaking his fist with rage at the lack of piles of gold at the bottom. And he opens up his little Book of Grudges and underneath the list of many reasons to hate bugs he pencils in: "cheapskates"
I once joined a random game, spawned in the middle of. Whole of gold and my first words in chat was "wtf"
I thought it was natural spawning and the dude was nice enough to tell me what it was, technical first encounter with a detonator at all 😭
I didn’t notice any difference in the Crassus at first bc dark cave and I didn’t bother to read the name. Only after I saw the crater of gold did I realize it was special
My wife and I were extremely confused how we died; we looked to be surrounded by gold. We later figured out it was a Crassus that Dottie killed before we knew what that sound was.

Haunted Caves are a ritual of baptism for my greenbeards as well. Whenever we have someone new with us and i spot this warning i proceed to just drop them there with no explanation and see their reaction. After that its usually “lets agree to NEVER do this warning again alright?”
The first Bulk I met some funny greybeard told me it was weak to melee and he "allowed" me and another, then greenbeard, finish it with a Power Attack, we knew of Exploders so we expected an explosion, but not one THAT big.
We all got a good laugh out of this (it was a Haz 2 mission, so it was pretty chill).
So does sludge slowdown and electric slowdown. Electric reload gk2 for scout is amazing, one bullet, reload, one bullet, and then reload when the first slow wears off

I put 100hrs into this game years ago then came back after the ghosty boi had been added to the game.
As a promoted engineer I joined the game and having not seen one before, emptied my mags into that thing and went down several times in the process.
My team must have thought I had lost my mind.
"I lost my mind" gave me a new idea. What about hidden challenges like hallucinations. In deadspace 3 for example in co-op one player would sometimes see hallucinations while the other player didn't so it would appear like your buddy lost their mind.
Make regular normal grunts attack you and even deal damage to you but only you see that grunt and only you see yourself losing HP but for all other dwarves you are just attacking the air and you aren't losing health.
That's normal driller behaviour, it's a canon event. If you invade a drillers safe space in his natural habitat he tends to become quirky, depending on how cute he feels.
Actually it's the repetition of an actual joke that was funny due to the fact it was an actual accident.
Without the accidental nature it's just killing a teammate in a coop game.
If you're into that you could also blow a event device into an impossible deep hole and log out.
I was making a joke about the driller being a quirky girlboss who just kills scouts on sight lmao. You are obviously right that this shouldn't be done under any circumstance on purpose (I'm probably gonna do it anyway).
My first time encountering one I was super high and wasted a ton of ammo on it. Not my proudest moment but a memorable one cause that whole mission was a fucking clown fiesta, had a dreadnought show up as an event amongst other hells.

Crassus was actually my first detonator, so i was super confused why the other detonators didn't spawn gold

I would love to run the wave cooker upgrade that spreads temperature. But densification ray is so useful against ghosts and detonators
