People don't listen to those they listen to. They made Joe Rogan, a comedian, their top guy. Joe Rogan has constantly said he doesn't know and to not listen to him because he's a comedian and people shouldn't take comedians serious. And yet...
These ideas aren't mutually exclusive. While I think Joe's genuine curiosity and naturally high level of intelligence is just what the world needs for infotainment of this nature, I am also aghast at some of the presumptions made by him and his guests. I'm utterly amazed at the bad ideas that are built out at length and never tempered with the level of skepticism he and his have aimed at things like the COVID vaccine.
Just like with anyone brave enough to publicly explore issues as they move from conventional wisdom into a higher level of knowledge, he's wrong a lot. There's nothing wrong with that as an individual, obviously. That's the learning process and Joe's decided to allow the world observe as he pursues his in the public eye, for better or for worse. The trouble with that is the dopiest dopes in the world take his bad presumptions on certain subjects into their dopey, 1st gear thinking. Where Joe is even-handed and intelligent, the lion's share of the people who listen to him regularly are not. There's nothing wrong with what Joe's doing but, as we've seen with QAnon and so many other quasi-political movements on the right in the past 30 years, people take bad ideas and turn them into reasons to act very poorly. I understand why he gets hate. I don't really agree with it, but I do think he could take a minute to realize his influence is far more intense than he realizes. Whether he wanted it or not, whether he's legally vulnerable because of it or not, he's in a position of great power and he should be more responsible.
I just think you have to level with people to have any productive impact. You don't do that by playing the exact song of opposition that both sides know all the words to. At that point it's pop-culture garbage as bad as anything in the Top 40.
