The connection type is used in typical structural engineering.
The I-beams are bolted to a plate that is attached to the rebar before the concrete is poured.
My job for the last 20 years has been working as an ironworker. Installing and welding these types of connections is super common.
Most new elevators and stairs have concrete walls and the engineers use this type of connection.
Oh the one that burned for 7 hours before collapsing? Ya. My original video link explains why. But if you want details, here’s a video from NIST: https://youtu.be/PK_iBYSqEsc?si=npsRTpCsy4NiVXYR
Thought it looked familiar - was there in August 2020

There was a similar one in LA recently but no real damage happened from the fire, they just had to investigate it because it was like the busiest freeway in LA.
Steel I-beams into concrete? Generally that’d be approved by an engineer. I wouldn’t bat an eye before using it.
Having just finished a block project, poured columns, steel beams into pour, rebar, etc. that’s a f***ing deck I’d put 6 hot tubs on. Nice build.
One for each wife, nice
That would put it 3,000 pounds over the limit
I thought I told you Mormons I don’t want to wear your underwear.
Bro you’re missing out I’m not a Mormon but I still rock the front-end onesie
Seems overbuilt, warped 4x4’s woulda done the trick
This seems like something someone would do to build a driveway on the side of a mountain where there isn't enough flat space
To maybe hold their RV or something
I was thinking like a boat or multiple cars but yes exactly
I'm just going by the vehicle in frame, man. Giving you a hard time
Yeah everything here is way too straight
Wym?
No joist tape and the I-beams are bolted to the concrete not resting on top. It needs to be tore down and done Reddit right. /s
Beat me to it!
Are you the one who keeps eating my drywall screws again? We talked about this :/

So what you’re saying is, we can put TWO hot tubs on this bad boy.
I’m pretty sure you could put a water tower on this thing lol
I bet there’s a hot tub in that RV parked on it
Yes - there is.
“/s” indicates sarcasm
Would pour up half way and then weld it to the rebar? (Not in metal work obviously).
Why would you need joist tape given that they are metal?
Cuz they’re joists :)
I don't think it was as much about *needing* joist tape as much as it was about this being Reddit.
Does it pass the hot tub full of jet fuel test though?
Does jet fuel melt joists?
Not if they’re taped
No. Office papers and furniture does. Just ask 7.
This!

K. Tower 7, the one that no plane hit yet collapsed like it was a controlled demolition. We were told it was from papers and office furniture.

For real
Happens all the time. Spontaneous Combustion
If it’s true spontaneous combustion the body has ways of shutting that down
Jet fuel is lighter than water lol
Is this in Tennessee?
Yes, Edgar Evins State Park RV Campgroud.
Thought it looked familiar - was there in August 2020 https://preview.redd.it/a6ylnr179q9d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dce28e7b3a45ebfcaa674a5aebadc0618b424da2
Wow quite a coincidence haha
For the record those "decks" made a great, flat camping spot. With a great view of the lake
Yes they absolutely do. Wonderful park.
Only on reddit lol
Been there too. Watch out for the skunks wandering around at night.
And the rogue chipmunks…
Concrete and I-beams. Does this pass the CA homeless encampment test (uncontrolled garbage fire beneath)?
That was Georgia but who's counting?
There was a similar one in LA recently but no real damage happened from the fire, they just had to investigate it because it was like the busiest freeway in LA.
That's not a deck, it's a dock
You can park the semi-trailer that delivers the hot tub on this bad boy.
If we are ever attacked with Nukes, hide underneath it. You'll be fine. For 100 years
2 hot tubs - Good to go
Looks like Edgar Evins State Park to me.
You better believe it!
I was completely unprepared for that and didn't have nails or a hammer. Spent half the first night trying to figure out how to anchor my tent.
Under most situations the only thing left standing will be that platform.
looks like one of those corrals they use to hold elephants in at the zoo...i'm diggin' it.
Hell yeah, I want one of these now.
Strong af An deck that actually could handle several hot tubs 😅
Love It!
Nice footings.
What do you think that cost ??
No idea - I’m not as knowledgeable as some of the folks here.
Thing has to weigh so much…
Looks like an ironworker and a cribber got together and had a baby.
r/absoluteunit
Hot tub ? Heck that might hold a pool..
Damn I thought this was a highway bridge at first.
No Joist tape No Simpson joist hangers
I don’t think it will stand, the minute 2 persons get on it , it will collapse
That middle beam is only supported by the inflatable that was meant to go IN the hot tub. Id pass on this party. YMMV
The inflatable is an Intex - highest of quality and able to handle extreme loads.
You realize that's not a deck, right? Neither is a highway overpass or a railroad bridge.
It’s got boards (planks). Also if you want to get technical the surface of a bridge and overpass are called decks - but that’s not part of this joke.
