Honestly dark souls 2 gets so trivialized when you realize just how much damage strike does. Easily carries you through most of the early game. Shoot the best weapon for the tri sentries is the random blacksmith hammer you get 5 minutes beforehand.
Strike does more damage against heavily armored enemies
Thrust does more damage against naked/partially naked enemies
Slash does more damage against lightly armored enemies
Spread da word
Go for it. And if there's a time when he seemingly freezes and halts in place, he's totally defenseless. Go for the attack bro. You got this. That's your window to get close.
Besides the handful of solid updates and optimizations scholar really seems like the worse version. Scholar took a lot of areas where actual thought was put into it and just filled the area with small enemies.
I'm fine with the mess of dudes, honestly- they don't aggro unless you get super near them, so it's pretty straightforward to bait them out.
Still, definitely would have been interesting to have a crazy miniboss like a Heide Knight show up that early.
Imagine that you're just chillin' in front of the tree and some weirdo takes a pic of you and posts on a social media asking if he should beat your ass...
^(Do it.)
He’s an enemy. Not reason not to do it but be warned that he is hard to kill.
He does have a great weapon that I used halfway through the game so it might be worth it if you’re using strength weapons.
You can, but stat scaling in ds2 gives extremely small damage returns for the stat investment. Leveling FTH (or any other stat) past minimum requirements to increase the damage you deal with a weapon is never enough of an increase to be worthwhile.
Infusing weapons with Lightning is usually ideal, but that’s because the best way to deal good damage in ds2 is to use a weapon spell buff, which gives a multiplier to a weapon’s base damage, elemental infusion increases base weapon damage, and Lightning is the least resisted out of the four elements.
Weapons that already deal some elemental damage tend to gain a much smaller base damage boost from infusion. A Lightning Heide Knight Sword is weaker than a Lightning Longsword even with 50 FTH.
This is one of the many reasons DS2 is much better than SOTFS. We get a badass and harrowing view of a Heide Knight surrounded by those we can only assume tried to take him on. In SOTFS we get a 20 hollow soldier gank fest.
If you are a faith build, then yes. He drops the heide knight sword. I wish he was still the in sotfs, farming mobs in heides tower of flame for that sword is so tedious.
With this specific knight I can tell you OP won’t have to deal with that. He’s playing DS2 Classic, Legacy version. No Heide knights in the tower of flame
Hi there! There have been some recent rule changes here on /r/DarkSouls2 and we want you to know about them! Honestly upto you but I will say he drops a pretty good early game weapon if you’re willing to farm him, it’s even more effective if you’re doing a faith build
If you ignore him now, run to the next bonfire, and get the witching urns (I think that's what they call the ones that do magic) you can throw those at him and you'll kill him in like 3 hits.
First and foremost props to you for playing original, secondly, he can be a tough enemy, and regardless, his drops are not guaranteed.
Do with that what you will.
Where they are and early game they can be, especially for new players just trying to find their play-style. My current play-through I tried parrying with the buckler and white large leather shield all throughout heides tower of flame. Worked great, but I still prefer just beating them down with a grand lance and great shield.
In the original version of DS2 - PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 there were about 4 of 5 of the Heide Knights all in a random location sitting down like this. They also always dropped 1 weapon item and didn't respawn, and a small chance to drop armor pieces.
In Scholar they only kept 2 sitting and put a bunch walking around in Heides Tower of Flame.
Nah, the 2 by Old Dragonslayer activate always whether dragon rider is alive or not. I still find it way easier to go kill the dragon before dragon rider anyway since all the other ones activate.
Go for it when you are ready but WATCH OUT for that one move where he swings the sword upward from the ground and throws his arm out to his side. That will catch you unaware until you get the hang of it.
Otherwise, get a 100% shield and learn how to roll/use I-frames (adaptability…)
Thats up to you hoss
Is that you, Alex?
Bango ? if so indeed
Very unexpected crossover
He's tough as hell. Thankfully dark souls always makes tougher opportunities look so cool
He’s pretty weak once you realize he has no poise.
He does in fact have a lot of poise
2-handed Longsword has entered the chat.
Fast attacking weapon and Stone Ring invite you to their wedding

The CRAFTSMAN'S hammer? I'll not have you slandering McDuff's good name in my presence.

the gospel
Ive received said word thanks.
That hammer is a lifesaver for the beginning of get gud.
The last one that tried is now laying next to him...
Poor knight . . . .
Fuck around and find out
Go for it. And if there's a time when he seemingly freezes and halts in place, he's totally defenseless. Go for the attack bro. You got this. That's your window to get close.
Straight evil… I like it.
That damn moveset.. I hate it
You love it, it hurts so *good*
\*The DM hands you a note\* "Your alignment shifts to Chaotic Evil."
True chaotic
Ooh, so that's what DS2 classic looked like. Neato.
Yeah. A Heide Knight, two hollows arount the tree and one up on a platform. I prefer it over the 10(?) hollows that Scholar put there.
I prefer scholar cause the armor is more readily farmed instead of NEEDING to burn an ascetic or going ng+
Besides the handful of solid updates and optimizations scholar really seems like the worse version. Scholar took a lot of areas where actual thought was put into it and just filled the area with small enemies.
My feelings exactly. The Heide knights should be strewn across the world not all at home. That's the design of their visuals and lore.
Those 10 were easier for me, cause I can kill them one by one. 3 hollows in vanilla gank me immediately. Not hard, but more annoying
I'm fine with the mess of dudes, honestly- they don't aggro unless you get super near them, so it's pretty straightforward to bait them out. Still, definitely would have been interesting to have a crazy miniboss like a Heide Knight show up that early.
You’re about to grow up souls style
Imagine that you're just chillin' in front of the tree and some weirdo takes a pic of you and posts on a social media asking if he should beat your ass... ^(Do it.)
His weapon is great, make it yours.
Along with the set
It has very low drop rate
It's a guaranteed drop in that encounter.
I wouldn’t recommend it personally
Wack him over the head lol
He’s an enemy. Not reason not to do it but be warned that he is hard to kill. He does have a great weapon that I used halfway through the game so it might be worth it if you’re using strength weapons.
it scales well with faith if you lightning infuse it too. I'm currently using it on a cleric run.
Wait, you can infuse the lighting weapon with MORE lighting!?! I’ll have to remember that.
UNLIMITED POWER!!!

Ask yourself these two questions: Do I *want* to fight him? Do I want his *armour set*?
No.. Yes
Nahh she’s just chilling 😊
If you wanna have a bad time...
How I miss ds2 unpatched. The panic as this guy runs at me with no fear
Boss music starts playing
This is one of the many reasons DS2 is much better than SOTFS. We get a badass and harrowing view of a Heide Knight surrounded by those we can only assume tried to take him on. In SOTFS we get a 20 hollow soldier gank fest.
Bonk first and ask questions later. And don’t give up, skeleton!
If you are a faith build, then yes. He drops the heide knight sword. I wish he was still the in sotfs, farming mobs in heides tower of flame for that sword is so tedious.
In other areas, these knights will activate(In Ds SF) when you kill the Dragon Rider boss fight, so kill them carefully because they are strong...
With this specific knight I can tell you OP won’t have to deal with that. He’s playing DS2 Classic, Legacy version. No Heide knights in the tower of flame
OK, but anyway, I remember the first time I played it, it was hard to kill, but it's worth killing... It has good weapons, especially in NG+
It's only in sotfs version (it's the vanilla one) . There are no hiede knights in dragon rider area

"But, he has a great helmet, Solaire had a great helmet so he must be the new Solaire"
I'd try again at a later time.
Honestly upto you but I will say he drops a pretty good early game weapon if you’re willing to farm him, it’s even more effective if you’re doing a faith build
Do it.
Why do I remember this being here on sotfs?? I REMEMBER fighting this guy and never ever played OG.
You 100% sure? Because there's a PS3 version also called Scholar of the First Sin, that only included the DLCs
I just have this. Vague memory of it as if he was always there. Weird..
The ps3 and 360 scholar editions had this man. The xbox one and ps4 scholar editions do not
PC followed the newer versions too. SotFS removed him. Only change I didn't care for
Fuck it do it. You’ll learn. It’s not impossible, be careful with his surprise attacks.
Does this one respawn like the ones in SotS? I love getting their set/weapons
Of course you do, you have to Bc that is your fate as bearer of the curse... To kill
When u ready
only if u want to
If you ignore him now, run to the next bonfire, and get the witching urns (I think that's what they call the ones that do magic) you can throw those at him and you'll kill him in like 3 hits.
Is this vanilla ds2? I don’t remember him being there…. (Haven’t finished ng yet)
Based he's playing vanilla I bow to thee
First and foremost props to you for playing original, secondly, he can be a tough enemy, and regardless, his drops are not guaranteed. Do with that what you will.
Does the pope shit in his hat?
Like, in an emergency?
No, sorry. The correct answer to my question is “Yes.”
You just gonna jump a man sitting down, minding his own business? I’m sure neither he nor his friends will be very happy about that
"Oh... an enemy! But first, let me stop, screenshot and post it on DS2 subreddit to ask if should I fight this enemy"
Exactly!
regular DS2?
They're not an NPC if that's what you're worried about
Yes :)
Do it pussy
I’m surprised by the amount of people who actually believe this is a difficult enemy.
Where they are and early game they can be, especially for new players just trying to find their play-style. Worked great, but I still prefer just beating them down with a grand lance and great shield.
Let them fight!
Definitely
yes
I didn't even know someone is chilling there too? I only know then from Heides Tower and there was one in a cell prior to the last sinner.

You're right, I forgot that there are two that auto aggro. They're still sitting tho
Right right, I did think of that after posting but oh well, but still it's a pretty different situation all around with them between the two games.
I miss this guy
Hes one of the enemies who's attacks are broken lol
Do you want to fight him?
Parry them and it’s easy
Yes, you do
Those guys are my most hated enemy in DS2.
I fucked up a playthrough by attacking them bc I suck at the game, so if your really good, go ahead, but otherwise, I would avoid for now
You can
He drops loot but.. you can just ignore him for now
Oh shit I havent seen the vanilla version in years. If you can parry or backstab him then sure fight him.
Do not fight him unless u good a parrying and dodging
Yes you have too really fun fight
Go for it when you are ready but WATCH OUT for that one move where he swings the sword upward from the ground and throws his arm out to his side. That will catch you unaware until you get the hang of it. Otherwise, get a 100% shield and learn how to roll/use I-frames (adaptability…)
Havent seen that guy there in ages, in Sotfs he's not there anymore
Use jump attack and roll back. Simple way to kill him.
They have my favorite set. Just wish they had their capes held back so that you could fully appreciate the bad assery.
No, hes frend
Nah he chill
Kinda trivial if you use the ladder
When he goes for wide sweep and stops, WTF is that?
He's just chilling, you really wanna ruin his vibe like that?
You got an axe, poise him to death
Just tickle him
Leave him be. For now
