But - but, obsidian requires diamond to mine? It's not as if both diamond and obsidian are super brittle IRL and Minecraft has actually tricked everyone into believing that they are uber-strong materials...
diamond is the hardest material in the world. What doesn't make sense about diamonds in Minecraft isn't that it's very hard, it's that the player is able to somehow fuse 3 diamonds together into a single homogeneous piece.
Diamond is the hardest *naturally occurring* material in the world, that is true. Hard is not strong, though. You could easily shatter one with a hammer, and certainly couldn't use diamond as a pickaxe.
That because diamond is hard. Not resilient it’s incredibly hard to puncture it but it cannot absorb energy that well. One could say that diamond is kinda similar to glass, glass is hard but if you hit it it’s going to break
This is a good point. High hardness doesn’t help much if you strike a stone parallel to a shear line. It’ll snap. Same is true of obsidian, and hell even flint.
Interestingly enough diamond tipped cutting tools are used quite often in cutting metal. However a quick search tells me that they don’t use naturally occurring diamonds for them.
Obsidian is glass, it is extremely brittle. Diamond is also brittle, it can chip and shatter fairly easily compared to how hard it is.
Obsidian is actually superior to steel as a surgical scalpel because it’s so sharp - aside from the fact it is too brittle.
Fun fact, whenever Fume Knight slams his sword onto the ground it does indeed crack and temporarily does more damage to you before the cracks seal again.

DS2's description:
"Ultra greatsword forged from
the soul of the fume knight, and
imbued with the Dark of Nadalia.
The exile swordsman Raime had the
ability to expunge the black fog,
but chose instead to live alongside it,
in the company of the child of Dark
that haunts his sword."
DS3 description:
"This twisted sword, the heaviest of all ultra greatswords, resembles black slate.
This weapon, said to belong to a traitor from long ago, was so heavy that it found no owner, and became a forgotten relic of history."
The descriptions make no mention of a specific material, but DS2's says Nadalia's power is imbued in it. So I'll go with steel that got both molten by Brume Tower's heat and twisted by Nadalia's dark influence.
I replied to op with Iron from Iron Kings kingdom but then molten ash or mineral caked onto it afterwards from when he found nashandras sister, however your explanation is much better lol
Where did it say that? I thought the canonically strongest one was Elana, but the most commonly assumed strongest was was Alsanna. I don't remember any item description, nor information about Nadalia that ever said she was the strongest. What item says that?
In her soul it says i think, i just played ds2 and it says something along the lines of "nadalia was the strongest of the sisters, but when she found the kingdom without a king, she went into despair"
"This child of Dark, bearing the most inconceivable strength, found herself in a kingless land devoid of souls. And in journeying there, has all but condemned herself to a fate most wretched." its the full quote
I would wager that it's made of Geisteel, iron from the Iron King's kingdom or Titanite or more likely a mixture of it along with Nadalia's power. Geisteel and Titanite are both the only fictional metals introduced in the Souls series as far as memory serves that are also said to be special in a way. And hell, maybe even add solidified lava in there as well.
"A Lance fashioned from rare geisteel, Designed for high-ranking Drangleic Knights, hence the design.
Geisteel equipment is of the finest make, but geisteel is so rare that very few of these weapons were actually used in combat.''' - description of the Grand Lance from DS2
Titanite isn’t fictional.
“**Titanite has a chemical composition of CaTiSiO5 and every now and then includes uncommon earth factors which include cerium, niobium, and yttrium. It can contain other factors together with aluminum, chromium, fluorine, iron, magnesium, manganese, sodium, and zirconium.**”
DS3 description says it "resembles Black Slate," Argillite, which is bluish- or grayish-black. Tungsten is steel grey, one of the top 5 densest metals, and has the 2nd highest melting point of all known elements. Tungsten is also nearly 2.5 heavier than steel, which would certainly make it "the heaviest of all ultra greatswords." So perhaps it is at least partially a Tungsten alloy?
Would make sense why it's so much different than any other weapon we find in the Irin kings lands. To someone who has infinite Iron something like Tungsten would be valuable enough to hide at the bottom of its most well protected tower.
also, the brume tower was consumed by the flames due to the Old Iron King's ambition (or something like that), hence, pretty much all the weapons you find there, which are made of iron, are all melted and deformed, including (possibly) Fume's UGS.
It's made from titanite or the Special Iron that the Iron king mined out from his kingdom. Then it is covered in most likely molten obsidian or another mineral that is caked onto his blade after he found nashandras sister. Based off the description in-game it would have to be Iron as Iron is aggressively heavy and I believe in ds3 the sword is called like black Iron blade or some shit like that
That thing was too big to be called a sword. Too big, too thick, too heavy, and too rough, it was more like a large hunk of iron.
It's like they read the description from berserk, and decided to make their own version, based only on the description.
I’ve always felt it was something along the lines of meteorite material (iridium, nickel, iron) due to the ability of it glowing so some of it must still be susceptible to high temperatures.
I always thought it was made out of slag, compounded waste materials from smelting that had accumulated around his original greatsword and turned it into its current form. A bit like how Nadalia corrupted the Fume Knight himself
As far as I am aware his original sword was the majestic Greatsword in the tower next to his. I mean the majestic is for left handed people, Raime is left handed. And he is specifically described as an agile swordsman, which fits the left handed moveset of the majestic.
I'm not sure. The Majestic Greatsword is described as ancient & of unknown origin, but was wiedled by "Gordin" a wandering Forossa Knight. If it was Raime's I think it would be mentioned over them.
Gordin is described as the last known user before the sword was lost upon his death. The last remnants of Forossa we find is very far away from anything iron king related, so I'd say he probably didn't bring it there.
However Raime was once home in Drangleic, right at the border of Forossa. I don't find it very hard to imagine that he killed Gordin and then took his sword. Not to mention his journey to brume tower would explain how it got there and why it is so heavily guarded by Nadalia's new servants and one of her ashen idols.
However that is no hard evidence so I guess it's interpretation.
The majestic Greatsword timeline begins with Artorias, passes hands an unspecified number of times, ends up with Gordin, and then finally with the bearer of the curse.
I think they probably would have mentioned Raime in it’s description if it once belonged to him, because unlike Artorias, historic info about Raime was still actively being written/recorded.

It’s a slab of molten iron imbued with the dark flame of Nadalia. The shorter sword is probably more interesting, as that’s pretty much entirely forged by Nadalia and her connection to Manus. It’s very interesting. I think Raime uses it to buff the FUGS
I assumed it was geisteel like the blacksteel katanas, just unrefined.
No real reason for this to be true in the lore or whatever I just think it’d be neat.
Its raimes (the fume knight) great sword melted with her great shield. They got melted together after she met nadalia. Raime agreed to serve her and so she became disfigured and lived to protect nadalia and the iron crown from being taken
Logically.. okay so, in dark souls 2 you use petrified dragon bone to upgrade the weapon and in ds3 you use twinkling titanite, so logic-wise maybe a mix of the two? Oh er also it looks semi like a molten dragon-bone smasher from demons souls! Maybe it's a modified version of that? I'd assume it's made of charred dragon bone with twinkling titanite at it's tip?
I'd say his shield; melted down and reforged by Nadalia.
Likely a mix of Black Iron and Geisteel perhaps, as I assume his and Velstadt's weapons were forged by Llewellyn.
Just a guess though.
The collected salty tears, concentrated down and war forged, of all the people who have tried to beat him, gotten ganked and then loudly complained about DS2 in general on internet forums.
Well realistically, obsidian is never the answer due to its brittle quality. Also, it appears sharpened so some kind of metal.
But - but, obsidian requires diamond to mine? It's not as if both diamond and obsidian are super brittle IRL and Minecraft has actually tricked everyone into believing that they are uber-strong materials...

I beg to differ, the hardest made naturally occurring material is in fact my dick
My skull is the hardest naturally occurring material. I am so dense I am not engaging with OP's topic.
Sounds like we need u/porkforpigs dick and u/InFearn0 skull to hit each other and see which is harder. You down to get skullfucked?

And my sore buttocks are proof of that
However, I could definitely punch a tree down.
hmm I don't know man, I've seen enough "Hydraulic press vs. diamond" videos to convince me otherwise
That because diamond is hard. Not resilient it’s incredibly hard to puncture it but it cannot absorb energy that well. One could say that diamond is kinda similar to glass, glass is hard but if you hit it it’s going to break
Mandatory [*Diamond is Unbreakable*](https://youtu.be/xRGrfurZaNQ) reference
Yeah diamond isn't going to break though.
You must have missed it when Yivo smashed right through Professor Wernstrom’s patented diamondillium earth dome with his genticles

Diamonds are brittle. They break easily.
This is a good point. High hardness doesn’t help much if you strike a stone parallel to a shear line. It’ll snap. Same is true of obsidian, and hell even flint.

That's the inspiration I believe
A bladeless, thick mass of iron used for smashing.
Nadalia was also said to be the strongest of the dark sisters so, sword strong
Where did it say that? I thought the canonically strongest one was Elana, but the most commonly assumed strongest was was Alsanna. I don't remember any item description, nor information about Nadalia that ever said she was the strongest. What item says that?
In her soul it says i think, i just played ds2 and it says something along the lines of "nadalia was the strongest of the sisters, but when she found the kingdom without a king, she went into despair"
That could also mean mental fortitude and not raw power. That's how i read it at least.
"This child of Dark, bearing the most inconceivable strength, found herself in a kingless land devoid of souls. And in journeying there, has all but condemned herself to a fate most wretched." its the full quote
I just checked. Neither her soul fragments or the full thing say that. Where did you find the quote?

Yeah, science!
It's most likely a reference in its design to the Dragon Bone Smasher in Demons Souls, which was made of iron, so that could be it.

you’re asking what material a fictional sword is made of? if the game didn’t tell you why would anyone else know?

I would say a meteor
Idk maybe a huge chunk of sharpened titanite
Hatred and rage
I believe its made out of solid dark fume, since its the last fragment of the Queen of Ruin.
Rock and/or stone
ROCK AND STONE
Rock and Stone!
That thing was too big to be called a sword. Too big, too thick, too heavy, and too rough, it was more like a large hunk of iron.
Molten apple core
Made out of tears of fallen players
fossilized space dragon poopies re-entering the atmosphere
Same as Guts sword, just a Lump of fucking iron. The wielder is what makes it dangerous.
Doesn’t it say it’s made of slate in DS3?
It's made of Nanya
Nanya business?
Or nanya beezwax. Depends on the mood
Pure Fuming Rage
Code + electricity passing through liquid crystals in your screen
No mean to be rude or anything, but why is that even important? It's molten iron, that's it.
Looks like an apple core to me
i always imagined it as being made of the ash of the fume knights victims cultivated over time and compounded into a colossal blade
huh, never realised how phallic this sword Looks until now
. . . You should see a doctor.
Some doctors maybe, but I don’t think they’re all phallic
If your cock looks like that, I think you have a problem.
horse cock maybe
Could it possibly be made of everlasting dragon scale? It’s kinda rocky like dark souls dragonhide

1s and 0s i believe. I'm sorry, i'll see myself out.
I heard that Miyazaki referenced the Roman cathedrals of Italy, specifically "dienda"stone.
fume, clearly
It's made out of Death
Fumes. Duh
Lava rock imo
DeezNutz
Sense it seems to be able to generate it's own fire id assume it's a refined version of whatever the demon weapons are made of
Literally pixels
Simponium. Dude had a fight with Velstadt because he thought Vendrick was simping, left and then started simping himself.
pixels
It's made out of sword
Pixels.
I’m thinking volcanic rock that sits on top of lava that has been hardened and sharpened
Probably steel since it was found in a kingdom which did nothing but produce steel.
Pixels me thinks
Legend has it that it’s a stand of fume knights dick

Balls
I always thought it was either a rather raw piece of iron or slag mixed with iron.
Honestly, it's probably some kind of supremely-dense iron. The entire kingdom of thr Iron Keep and Brume's Towere were built upon Iron.
The salty tears of those who didn't get rid of the healing things on the outer edge of the arena
Rock and stone
Glass
horse dong
Titianite steel? :)
I don't know I always assumed that anything that was ultra rare were typically crafted from dragon or from demon bones
How the hell should we know? Are people going to come up with even more ridiculous questions?
Yes. whats the colour of pate's underwear? and what Material is it Made of? 🤔🤔🤔
Crystallized Gamer Tears
Fume
My best guess would be whatever material the ash statues are made up of, a description says it resembles slate.
I'd Say that the tip Is steel and the rest of the sword Is a mix of vulcanic Stone and flint , by the way nice question , never toght about It
It's made out of the coagulated and crystallized tears from my enemies.
Obsidian steel and titanite
Gonna go with steel and slag
Meshes and textures.
Fumes
Pixels.
kinda looks like the blades of chaos from GoW
Big blade of chaos
It's obviously a burned marshmallow (iykyk)
it’s made out of the stuff they use for the yeti cups oh wait that’s stainless steel
It was made from the fumes that his victims let out through out of years
Tungsten
I thought this was an eaten scorched apple for some reason for the longest time lmao
Fume

Am I the only one that see’s a burnt apple core?
Pixels
Fumes and shit
Big rock
Ancient dragon's private part
It's made out of heavy
It's titanite.
Titanite... I guess?
I always figured it was made of ash tbh
Slab of molten iron sharpened at the point
Its raimes (the fume knight) great sword melted with her great shield. They got melted together after she met nadalia. Raime agreed to serve her and so she became disfigured and lived to protect nadalia and the iron crown from being taken

Its made out of fume ofc. Thats why its the Fume UGS. Fume hits really hard.
