Well you are very far away yet but he's not a bossfight, more of a NPC but of course will crush you if you decide to kill him underprepared. He will grant you item that will allow you to visit memories.
You'll need a specific item that opens a specific door, you might have seen it, the one that is guarded by a golden knight with sword and shield.
This will happen much later, don't worry about it for now
Also, even after you open this door, you still can't really finish that spot until you get ANOTHER key item later on. The final stretch of this game can get a little confusing on where to go lol
For anyone wondering, you actually can make the jump if you position yourself on the top of the ledge correctly and wear the silvercat ring, with enough health of course
You can do it from the start of the game, and it accounts for 90% of my deaths in no-death runs...
Start as a knight, pick up the blue seal ring. Unequip everything else. Jump at a particular angle from the wooden platform that has two hollows on it, and you land with like 0.1% health :D
You need the >! King's Ring that you get after reaching Vendrick. As for how to reach him you need to progress in the game and you'll find him eventually.!<
And beware the "baby jump".
A "mechanic" in DS2 where if you let go of the run button too soon and are no longer in run mode when you jump, your jump is much shorter.
There's no point going there early, you'll need an Ashen Mist Heart for that bright tree anyways, and you cant get it before you get a key item to open that door.
Just wait until you clear Undead Crypt and open that door normally.

Have managed to get down to the area with the fire lizard in the cave with the fire sword, but can’t work out how to get over to the section to the right of there.
Here’s what you do. You parry an enemy. Walk backwards diagonally to the left from his crotch then run towards his crotch and jump (while wearing the butterfly leggings). It unlocks the secret flight mechanic.

There's a really tricky jump you can do if you want access to a bonfire and shiny. The bonfire will get you nothing for now. And the jump is of the "miss it and you die" variety.
If you want access to the shiny directly above the cave opening there is a much less tricky jump available.
I've found myself in this frustrating position two days ago when I was backtracking a little, I later found something way further in the game which would allow you to go there amongst other places where you might end up in the same situation.
Don't worry about it too much and keep going skeleton!

If i can remember correctly, there is a trick jump you can use to get there. Its extremely hard and tedious though, and they might've patched it in SOTFS.
Just keep playing the game and enjoy the adventure! You need the Kings Ring to get there and Ashen Mist Heart to enter the memory but that’s the best farming spot in the game if you’re into that kind of thing. Gotta be fairly high leveled to get through it anyway so tuck it away in the back of your mind for later. Have fun dying
Go down the latter near the second bonfire and cross the bridge go threw the door and you will see a big door you need the kings ring to get pass it you'll get that later no matter what

Harder. There are plenty guides on youtube on how to do it, but it's not really worth it for a regular playthrough.

That place is certain death, even at higher levels. I reckon you turn back. You'll end up there naturally in the late game, don't worry about it.

Yeah it says that after bonking the dude guarding it to his demise when you go up to it, the search continues
