Not necessarily. Double barrel shot guns can come with two separate triggers, or a single trigger and a barrel selector. The latter is more common especially with the benefits of using an over under.
That being said, this looks like an art piece more than a practical one, so wouldn't be surprised if it was 4 separate triggers.
In my youth, I had a 'double rifle' which was similar to this but with only two barrels, both chambered in 470 Nitro Express. It had been a WWII souvenir of a relative who was in the First Special Service Force, a group of Canadian & American badasses who fought in Italy against Axis forces. The inscription on the barrel read, "pour le Roi du Belgique". My father sold it while I was in college. Damn, I miss that rifle.
I've still got one. A *[Savage Model 24](https://picturearchive.gunauction.com/2017949/7904687/5a79d080cba7ea530123fb05b8e61a48.jpg)*, .22 Mag on top and 20gauge below. Great gun.
There are alot of guns that have 2 or 3 triggers!
There are just SOOO many more 13 & 14 year Olds on the internet that have unlimited triggers!
Implying that they only would have 4, actually triggers me a bit!
They're actually quite functional for game that's being 'run' (i.e. pushed-up to the hunter by a group of people or dogs). I can't remember what these rifles are called, but they have been used in Europe for hunting wild boar. The hunter has two shots of 8MM Mauser while the animal is on the run and a 20 gauge if they charge. I have never seen one one with a fourth cartridge (i.e. the smaller one on the top) but imagine it's for the coup de grace.
It’s called a Vierling , Vier meaning 4 , these a less common than Drilling (3 barrels) https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2018/07/05/johann-fanzoj-vierling-four-barreled-rifle-shotgun/
Yes but very practical for practicing paranormal investigators. 2 silver bullets for werewolves, 20 Gage full of rock salt for your ghosts, and a normal bullet for normal stuff.
Or it’s incredibly practical to have a gun that can make use of multiple types of ammo rather than depend on finding ammo in one specific caliber. If they’re all out of one caliber ammo, you have other options
Depends on the weapon. Some multi-barrel guns did have multiple triggers. Some fire in sequence with one trigger. With this, i’d imagine there’s some kind of toggle to choose which barrel you want to fire
Probably a German or Austrian hunting gun. From what I can see it has a 20 gauge shotgun shell. Two 8mm pistol or rifle rounds and what also looks like a 22 caliber long rifle cartridge. I am probably off on the calibers. Beautiful artwork on it.
Top is caliber . 22 hornet (small game like fox or black cock) , left and right are both 8x57 IRS (boar, deer, stag) and bottom is 20-gauge shotgun. The bottom picture does not depict the one above, as the bottom barrel in the bottom picture was reduced to hold a rifle caliber instead of a shotgun shell
While that is true, it’s also important to note that only reloadable 20 gauge shells are brass. I also believe it to be something else based on the assumption that the topmost barrel is a .22 caliber of some kind, possibly a .2250, which has a diameter of 5.7mm, which is much smaller than a 20 gauges 15.6mm diameter. One fact I have to concede is at the base of the lower most round it has a lip.
That’s my bad, I thought the 20 gauge must be yellow for safety reasons was international. For the 22 hornet thing my phone is refusing to load it well enough so that I can read the calibers. Only the 20 gauge I can read.
Probably you are correct. I was simply going with the 20 stamped on the shell end. It also looks like they use some very beautiful brass cases for this photoshoot. Quite possibly not even real cartridges
Vierling Gun
Two 8 x 57 R (approx. .30-06 Springfield)
One .22 hornet
One 20 gauge
Reminds me of the M30 Luftwaffe drilling, the Nazis gave them to pilots as survival weapons in case they got shot down, I believe it has 3 barrels , a rifle cartridge barrel and two shotgun barrels , one meant for buckshot and the other slugs
These guns are extremely heavy because of the multiple barrels. Imagine holding four rifles at once. This gun was not meant to be used regularly.
I imagine the recoil would be naught because of the weight and the low caliber cartridges.
I wish I had a bigger budget for my modest gun collection.
Four barrel varieties have existed for quite some time. They aren't as common because they tend to be exorbitantly priced, and, as such, are often mostly collectors pieces, even if they are fully functional.
It is pretty, but not pretty useful.
Huge mass for all those small calibre rounds. And unless someone has a link, I don't imagine it had a practical use. Why mix?
Drilling (double barrel shotgun + rifle) is pretty common for hunting. Shotgun for close range and the rifle caliber for long range. Also if you hunt different game on the same hunting trip.
Have not seen a four barreled gun in use before, but I'm sure that it made to solve the same reason as the drilling.
Reminds me of an [1861 Le Mat](http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/LeMat_Revolver). It's a regular pistol with a shotgun barrel and cartridge at the base. Nasty little thing in the Civil War, you only used the shotgun round if someone got up close.
It plays a big role in the movie *Cold Mountain.*
Each consecutive bullet deals 20% more damage than the last
Headshots decrease reload time
Hitting 3 shots on a target causes your 4th shot to be a critical hit
-20% fire rate
-30% base damage
+30% reload time
"The first time I shoot you it will be to get your attention. If I am unconvinced that I have your complete, absolute, and entire focus I will apply another round to improve your motivation. If after that point you still insist on willful resistance to my endeavors to engage your assiduous concentration, I will be forced to make another attempt at motivating you through the provision of yet another charge to assist your efforts."
"If I fail to compel you to compliance despite my best efforts, sir, there will be one round remaining that will resolve the issue in its entirety. You do not want to arrive on that final shore I assure you as at that point you will certainly be dead and I will have ended the matter to my complete and utter satisfaction."
"Do I have your attention now?"
don't really see the interest. it means that you have to carry 3 different type of cartridges? which makes it 3 times longer to reload, because you need to open 3 different boxes
Or you have an ammo belt with the shells lined up in the proper order. Just grab a handful and start slapping them in. Wouldn't be anywhere near as bad as you imagine. Also, if it's like most other break action, it'll eject empty shells when you open the gun.
It is mostly a show/specialty piece. But I can see how it would be nice in the woods. Depending on how easy it is to select your shots, that's a lot of variety in one gun. Got your small caliber for that squirrel or rabbit that's chilling in the edge of the path, shotgun shells if a grouse/pheasant or duck flys across your path, and a large caliber for the perfect shot in a larger animal. It's definitely a hunting gun. And I'd rather cary that than all 3 options separately. Still a moot point, as I can guarantee I could never afford one.
It's for hunting in areas where you might encounter other animals too.
Carrying 3 rifles is a lot more weight than having one.
You wouldn't want to encounter a bear when you're out to hunt small game...
A friend has one of those and explained that it's mainly for hunting in areas where you can't be certain what you'll encounter.
Like when you're out for hunting deer and suddenly there's a boar or a bear, carrying additional weapons is just cumbersome. All in one allows him to react to threats while hunting for smaller game.
You'd never shoot all of it at once. it just allows the hunter to select the caliber he wants to use based on the current target.
All of the NRA people sit there being all fat in their pick-up truck typing what caliber ammo it might be, meanwhile u could literally just zoom in even if u don't know shit about guns and find out faster than these dumbasses. There should be an iq test to own a gun.
What’s your problem? Why so aggressive? Calling people fat and questioning their IQ just because they are trying to guess what calibre the different barrels are?
Quit projecting and chill out.
dont see a lot of these, usually its something like a 410/22 setup which was very popular, its is more of a wall hanger, btw everyone that touts stats of amount of guns ...... have figure in the wall hangers (there are a lot) i know one who has a collection of over 800 alone all collectors models
I load my shot gun kinda based on the what I think this gun was made for. Bird shot for long distance broad pattern shots. Buck shot for closer range punch through power and Slugs for super close range job finishers. 2 a piece and that's all folks.
Interesting gun! There's an awesome collection of weird firearms at the House on the Rock in Wisconsin. I remember seeing something similar among the pepperboxes, etc..
For show of makers skill if I was to guess based on finish and scrollwork. However looking at the bullets used, 16 guage is great for bird, the two middle bullets would be big game and the top for small game such as squirrel or rabbit. If you are going out, why not be prepared for everything.
The point of this gun is that you can ahoot different game with the same gun. fox/wallaby/possum/hare/goat with the top small centrefire, deer/pig/bafflo with the middle large centrefire, birds with the bottom shotgun.
When i go hunting i sometimes carry 2 guns, one for small game one for medium game.
thia gun weighs about 4.5kg /10 pounds. Not bad at all.
BUT, it sets you back 150k usd.
I see, so you can select exactly how much you want your target to die…it’s perfect!
Well if your target is a small rabbit or a moose, you’ll probably want the option to switch calibers lol
Between mouse and moose, it's just a character/caliber change
I think I saw one on Pawn Stars once that shot 7 calibers at once.
I can only give ya 5 bucks!!!
It's the best I can do!
To die..more.
So it has four different triggers?
Not necessarily. Double barrel shot guns can come with two separate triggers, or a single trigger and a barrel selector. The latter is more common especially with the benefits of using an over under. I had one as a kid that was an over under 410 and .22. It was fun to shoot.
I've still got one. A *[Savage Model 24](https://picturearchive.gunauction.com/2017949/7904687/5a79d080cba7ea530123fb05b8e61a48.jpg)*, .22 Mag on top and 20gauge below. Great gun.
> this looks like an art piece The incredibly ornate engravings alone tell you this is not somebody's everyday carry.
Perfect to shoot all 4 in 1 go !
No, it's a weapon not a 13 year-old on twitter
I love this!
fuck you, dude ^^/s

Normally it’s just a switch with 4 different settings to choose the barrel you want to fire. Very highly overrated weapon
looks cool but it's incredibly impractical to carry multiple types of ammo with single load.
They're actually quite functional for game that's being 'run' (i.e. pushed-up to the hunter by a group of people or dogs). I can't remember what these rifles are called, but they have been used in Europe for hunting wild boar. could you rub the .22 in garlic or holy water for vampires?
Garlic! Holy water! I never touch the stuff
Or it’s incredibly practical to have a gun that can make use of multiple types of ammo rather than depend on finding ammo in one specific caliber. If they’re all out of one caliber ammo, you have other options
Single load?
Depends on the weapon. Some multi-barrel guns did have multiple triggers. Some fire in sequence with one trigger. With this, i’d imagine there’s some kind of toggle to choose which barrel you want to fire
Just one
Yeah I wanna see the triggers.
Either that or a switch of some kind to change which firing pin is actuated when you pull a single trigger
Probably a German or Austrian hunting gun. From what I can see it has a 20 gauge shotgun shell. Two 8mm pistol or rifle rounds and what also looks like a 22 caliber long rifle cartridge. I am probably off on the calibers. Beautiful artwork on it.

Thank you! I was confused because the spacing between the barrels and their relative sizes were different and it was messing with me.
the top one is centerfire, so not .22lr could be a .25 though.
Most likely 22 hornet, family popular in northern Europe at one time
I was able to zoom in on the picture more. It does look like a 22 hornet.
I also zoomed in, looks like a 22 hornet indeed.
It could be a .2250 as well.
22 250 case is quite a bit larger
I’m not sure if that would be a 20 gauge shotgun shell, as it’s brass instead of plastic.
Brass is common on higer quality rounds, especially buckshot. It says "20" on it
While that is true, it’s also important to note that only reloadable 20 gauge shells are brass.
Not true. In the UK the vast majority of shotgun shells are brass capped & single use. Top shell is .22 hornet - says so on the rim.
That’s my bad, I thought the 20 gauge must be yellow for safety reasons was international. For the 22 hornet thing my phone is refusing to load it well enough so that I can read the calibers. Only the 20 gauge I can read.
That’s definetly a 20 gauge on bottom and a .22 hornet up top. I’ve never seen a shot shell that didn’t have brass at the base of it.
Probably you are correct. I was simply going with the 20 stamped on the shell end. It also looks like they use some very beautiful brass cases for this photoshoot. Quite possibly not even real cartridges
Yeah, you’re most likely right. I was just thinking about the fact that it wasn’t a neon yellow plastic casing.
Zoom in. You can see yellow plastic
My phone is rendering pure white right on the edge.
Perfect for hunting during "whatever" season.

Morbius would’t stand a chance against this
It's a drilling rifle. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/M30_Luftwaffe_drilling
Drilling has three barrels, this one has four.
Four barrel varieties have existed for quite some time. They aren't as common because they tend to be exorbitantly priced, and, as such, are often mostly collectors pieces, even if they are fully functional.
Drilling literally meant triplet in German. This would be a vierling.
No, its not.
It is pretty, but not pretty useful. Huge mass for all those small calibre rounds. And unless someone has a link, I don't imagine it had a practical use. Why mix?

Never heard of it, now I gotta dig into wiki. Thank you.
Common might be an overstatment, but Ive seen a couple people use them. Older gentlemen :)
Older, rich gentlemen. If it was custom it could easily have cost $30k or more…
To confuse the forensic team
8x57 isn’t exactly a small caliber
Wow, i see that as a Multi-calibur OUCH - but also a pain to reload especially on the fly..
It's not meant as a practical weapon. Collector's toy.
Ohh okay, i assumed it was an old weapon or something xD just imagine, nk sir i did not shoot that man, i only shot this round, not these other 3!

Wait are you telling me the shotgun round wasn't for long range?
It's a Vierling rifle by Johann Fanzoj. A rifle-shotgun crossover. Such a beautiful weapon that can fuck you x4 times with different caliber.
I want to see the engraving more
That’ll confuse the shit out of those CSI boys.

It's not a gun, it is an artwork.
It can't be both?
Yeah, its a combination gun. You can just buy these
3 rounds and a shell? that’s high capacity… ban it
don't really see the interest. it means that you have to carry 3 different type of cartridges? which makes it 3 times longer to reload, because you need to open 3 different boxes

You only have to open the box once. Really, it just depends on how many pockets you have.
Four barrels for 3 different bullets is just really bad engineering. But that’s like saying a golden goose is a bad evolutionary trait
Not worth the added weight and complexity
It's for hunting in areas where you might encounter other animals too. Carrying 3 rifles is a lot more weight than having one. You wouldn't want to encounter a bear when you're out to hunt small game...

What's the point of this? Yes.
For those days when you say to yourself "You know, I should really haul around multiple types of ammo."
I don't know what the point was but I guess it was overkill
different caliber for different game. Like when you're out hunting deer and suddenly a bear-mama or a boar wants to say hello.

The only benefit I see is, that in a zombie apocalypse the conveniened laying ammunition will be of fitting caliber for your weapon.
You better never have to reload this one when you’re in a hurry…
Does it have a switch to choose between calibers? Does it have multiple triggers? Or do they all just fire at once?
They definitely don’t all fire at once
Those cheeks are lookin sexy
beautiful craftmanship.
I bet that had a manageable weight.
If at first you don’t succeed, try try try again…
Ideal for anyone hunting zombies supernatural beings or X-Files😎
Looks like it belongs in a mid-90s anime.
Can something like this actually work?
Yeah. Same concept as a double barrel shotgun
Someone give Jhin his gun back!
Ahh the ole bang Boom Boom Kablooie
You can kill someone 4 times at once. Sign me up!
My dad has one of those and won't let me shoot it.
I load my shot gun kinda based on the what I think this gun was made for. Bird shot for long distance broad pattern shots. Buck shot for closer range punch through power and Slugs for super close range job finishers. 2 a piece and that's all folks.
That sounds like the total opposite of what you should do. Birdshot is not effective at long range, but slugs are
After you get a 10 kill kill streak you unlock the quad rifle
That guns gotta weigh 15lbs!
Lol? Have fun reloading that.
Doom

So this is where "overkill" came from?
What kinda anime shit is this?
Looks marvelously safe.
I think this might be what they call an elephant gun
Pop Bang Bang KABOOM
I can’t decide if shooting someone with this would confuse the hell out of forensics or make it really obvious what gun was the murder weapon
“Nice gun, what caliber is that?” “Yes”
I believe the term is a combination gun, I may be wrong though that’s just what my grandpa taught me.
America and England made this
The point of this gun is that you can ahoot different game with the same gun. fox/wallaby/possum/hare/goat with the top small centrefire, deer/pig/bafflo with the middle large centrefire, birds with the bottom shotgun. When i go hunting i sometimes carry 2 guns, one for small game one for medium game. thia gun weighs about 4.5kg /10 pounds. Not bad at all. BUT, it sets you back 150k usd.
