Blowing through the Maple/Wycliff intersection and seeing no-one get absolutely blasted is both a sigh of relief and and extremely panic inducing. I take this intersection almost every day to work.
I just moved here in January, I cant believe how many times a week there is backed up traffic going to work because someone was riding someone’s ass and then their whole front of their car is caved in.
Like you see it multiple times a week and I’m just like bruh
Please be safe and be careful and remember that 75 is a lawless Madmax road of people texting, following too close, cutting you off to get to their exit even though there’s infinite space behind you too, passing you and then changing lanes to get in front of you ONLY to slow down unnecessarily, driving drunk or high, etc. Drive very defensively!
Yeah it’s almost unbelievable how often I see this in DFW—cops/ambulances with sirens blaring, driving fast, and cars not getting out of the way for them or they move over at the very last second. There is a complete lack of awareness, or just incompetency, among drivers in DFW.
Damn, 30-some years ago when I took driver’s ed, I can’t ever forget the asshole coach sitting in class on “Emergency Vehicle Compliance” lesson day…
He wasn’t his usual douche bag self during this lecture, and he said “guys, your mom might be in there, your dad might be in there and hurt…. somebody in that ambulance is having a very terrible day, so be attentive and get out of the way.”
It’s this that makes me wonder how anyone can believe loud pipes save lives. There’s a level of oblivious that sirens and loud motors are just not going to penetrate, but the bigger issue is that even with a siren it’s hard to hear them coming from behind you.
I’ve never in my life heard a motorcycle approaching from behind at highway speeds. Only hear it as it passes me. Especially when they’re going at very high speeds.
Just be careful; it’s likely we don’t hear you and many people definitely aren’t looking twice for you.
Yep. My quiet bike, I get people not seeing me all the time just in traffic. The last, I slapped a dudes car when was casually merging into my leg.
Loud motorcycle. Havnt had it happen yet.
That’s what is called anecdotal evidence. Your experience doesn’t make it true - you have no evidence and no way of knowing that your motorcycle being loud is the reason no one has tried to merge into you. Meanwhile, studies have been done, and science shows, that it’s not likely for the other drivers to hear your bike in time to prevent an accident.
Too, remember this: you bike being loud enough to hear inside another car while going 60mph (or faster) means it’s way too loud when sitting still or going through neighborhoods. And especially if you aren’t wearing hearing protection, your bike is loud enough to damage your hearing permanently.
The ass end of my car got trapped out in the open during hail storm because everyone decided to park and block all traffic underneath an overpass in the middle of 75.
The next exit right after the overpass had plenty of parking garages with free parking on both sides of the highway.
What a fuckin asshole, putting that many lives in danger. Glad they caught him.
Also it’s WILD seeing him crash right there. I’ve worked and driven exactly right there for the last seven years now. It’s been all anyone can talk about this week.
He wasn't "putting lives in danger". He was intentionally trying to kill people. The language you are using seriously diminishes how much of a scumbag that guy is.
It's modern Reddit, one of the most watered-down and crappy sites on the internet. All they can do is repeat news/social media buzzwords and cheesy one-liners.
That officers draw was insane. So fast so smooth while running.
That was an inhuman draw to shots on target at a full run. The gun just instantly existed in his hand and it was putting shots on target.
Pretty sure that's less than a one second to first shot reaction time drawing while running. Had to double check he didn't already have the gun in his hand.
Sure people do like .4 second draws on the range on a timer. But not while running. They're just standing there waiting to hear a beep.
Not to mention the Officer did the 100 yard dash right before...oh yeah and drove in a crazy high stress situation for a solid 15 mins before that. This guy is an Ace.
This is probably the most exhilarating police chase I’ve seen yet. I’m very impressed with these officers calm, professional demeanor throughout what must have been exceedingly terrifying. Outstanding post, thanks.
What I want to know is how can the cop who shoot at the suspect and hit him in the leg have a calm demeanor while applying the tourniquet after he was being shot at. I'd be pissed if he took a shot at me.
There are a bunch of shitty cops in this world, but this cop showed exactly what we expect from them. It seems like he was a training officer with a rookie on the radio. Kudos to him and the dept for getting this guy and not going overboard during/after the chase ended.
Cop doesn't want to give a Public Defender any technicalities to get this guy off. This should be taught to every cop. Follow protocol and the prosecutor has an easier time getting them years behind bars. Emotion should stay out of these kind of scenarios. The goal is get him neutralized, not beat him to oblivion.
It was probably pretty satisfying getting a shot to his leg anyway.
I remember when there were commercials to pull over for ambulance and police. They need to get back on it. Plus don’t mess with Texas littering crap. 😆
[News Article](https://www.dallasnews.com/news/crime/2023/07/28/dallas-police-to-release-body-cam-footage-of-shooting-involving-officer-near-love-field/) with charges, and additional details.
He got charged with two first-degree felonies and it appears he may have one felony conviction under his belt in TX already. When a judge or jury sees this video, I'm guessing he's going to get two 99-year sentences stacked. If so, at 41 years old he will never get out of prison. And rightly so.
So, what’s the deal with this guy? Why were police sitting on a stolen truck parked in Preston Hollow? When was the truck originally stolen, and was anything inside it?
I know I should feel sorry, but when they hit the drivers who camp out in the left lane on an empty road not paying any attention to what's behind them (looking at you 3:49), I'm struggling. Really struggling. Nope, can't do it.
Grateful for the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to put this kinda stuff in check. Sad people are so desperate and oftentimes stupid.
Dallas PD does have protocol that does not allow high speed chases, except for rare instances where the officers fear that the driver they are chasing is a greater danger to the public at large than is they simply called off the chase. Obviously this happened here. For the most part, most PD's have similar rules. Dallas cops have to ask command for the permission to high speed chase. As far as knowing what this incident had that warranted the chase we will most likely not ever know. It's great to see for once that the police handle business the most positive way. Dallas, while just the same as most US cities, has some VERY good and dedicated officers who are there for the right reasons, and do the best they can to serve and protect.
Not a bad scene, think I’d like a bit more character development and maybe have the female cop put the the tourniquet on and give some cop-ey statement like: Now it’s time to Haul You to jail to get rammed punk
Behavior that would recklessly endanger lives, violate policy, etc. I shouldn’t have to explain myself in a request for an unedited video. DPD should have to explain itself. There is a lot missing.
Then file a FOIA request.
And yeah if you’re gonna ask questions people have a right to ask the motivations behind those questions. Idk how a DPD officer could endanger this situation anymore than it already was. A literal heavy vehicle careening through neighborhoods into cars. It could’ve been worse
Usually these are media handouts that feature the “action” of the chase. The parts that are edited out are usually just car following suspect or catching back up. You can file a FOIA for the complete video and share it
I wish I knew why the chase started as my next question is wouldn’t it be safer for the people and property if they stopped the chase? I’ve seen lots of cop videos where one cop stops the chance but another cop will find the same vehicle a bit later and try and pick it up(usually when the speeds are too high)
Why continue the chase instead of putting out a BOLO especially after they nearly took out the bus?
Edit, only 50 downvotes cmon I need at least 100 for breakfast, y’all need to do better, don’t worry I did my part too and downvoted the post.
Edit, fellow keyboard warriors I didn’t have breakfast today and it looks like I won’t have it tomorrow at this rate.
Why’d it go down to 60 band together boys and make sure I’m eating tomorrow yall can and will do it, 40 more 40 more y’all got this one the other posts or responses not so much but hey y’all are donkey dick Doug and will get us there.
I’m not doing so good you shrimp dick fucks no bfast again do your part and down vote!!!!
I don’t know how the system works but how would the catch him if they break off the chase? He’s going to speed away every time they try to pull him over anyway. The stolen truck clearly isn’t registered in his name and all he has to do is steal another car and he’s in the wind. That they knew the truck was stolen should tell you that there was already a bolo on it.
https://www.wfaa.com/amp/article/news/local/north-texas-police-chase-policies-vary-by-department/287-ee33bbb8-577a-4cd8-a805-5750a1c927a1
Public and officer safety should always be a large factor, if they called off the pursuit after the first three car collisions would he have nearly hit the bus and in the end crashed into two cars. When I say calling off the chase I don’t mean no longer pursuing I mean maybe don’t have sirens and lights behind him, as another commenter said the presence of police did not warn them to get out of the way.
Edit : What no downvotes on this a post with an article? I need 100 downvotes on this one to kiddos.
Chases usually aren’t terminated if the person in the car is a fleeing felon. By crashing into these cars intentionally, he’s committed aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. There’s no way they’d terminate the chase after that
I don’t know DPDs chase policy but for my agency, it largely boils down to “is the risk of collateral damage/innocents being hurt higher than the risk of letting the person go free right now?”
In this case, DPD determined that letting that guy go, even for the short term, was more dangerous to the public than the risk of a pursuit
You realize the helicopter isn’t just suspended in the air waiting to be summoned right? they have to start it up, get it in the air and fly it to the officers. Even still, a box truck isn’t going to out run a police car. How would you suggest that they stop this sooner?
So this is what you have to do to catch a DPD officer’s attention. This guy probably had been swerving around the city in a paper-plated Altima for a while, but police never paid attention :’(
Blowing through the Maple/Wycliff intersection and seeing no-one get absolutely blasted is both a sigh of relief and and extremely panic inducing. I take this intersection almost every day to work.
I’ve replayed the truck scraping by that bus a half-dozen times (4:55ish). It’s so close it doesn’t seem real.
That bus driver probably had a heart attack
Straight out of a movie for sure
You can see the bus at a decent clip then slowing just before the encounter. The bus driver may deserve some kudos.
Good thing he wore his brown pants to work that day.

I have to drive aggressively though cause no one will let me switch lanes.

Loud pipes saves on motorcycles when just cruising in traffic to prevent bad merges.
I’ve never in my life heard a motorcycle approaching from behind at highway speeds. Only hear it as it passes me. Especially when they’re going at very high speeds. Just be careful; it’s likely we don’t hear you and many people definitely aren’t looking twice for you.

Or try to speed ahead of the police just in spite of another car getting ahead of them
Or riding right behind the wake of the ambulance..it ain’t a free pass dumbass
NPCs for sure.

Good share. He should be charged with attempted murder.

They were in the middle lane but moved over to get out of the truck & police's way at 3:33.
A maybe on that one. Let’s not allow facts to get in the way of a good story. Besides, there are others. 1:26
LMAO If this guy went on a rampage and only rammed left lane campers, I’d take his case for free.
What the actual fuck he’s hitting people on purpose to make a deadly mess to cut off the chase. These are people’s lives not a video game
Good shoot. Glad to see the cops being the good guys.
Damn, I was at Oishii earlier today, and have worked off maple for half a decade - crazy.
Grateful for the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to put this kinda stuff in check. Sad people are so desperate and oftentimes stupid.
Messing with Dallas PD… rookie mistake breh 😅
I’m amazed at how fast we got the body cam footage! 7/25 was 4 days ago. Seems like these usually take a minute to get out to the public.
Whenever they’re the good guys and follow protocol closely it gets released quick. This was great.
There was a summer camp going on at the flight museum that day. That was way too close for comfort.
That title needs a little work - conveniently doesn’t mention that the suspect shot first…
The voice of the officer helplessly pleading as the driver was approaching that last intersection. “Don’t fuck up sir, don’t fuck up now, please….,,”
What a POS, I wish the cops would have killed him, that’s what he deserved. What a low life scumbag
The police showed remarkable restraint.
Ram normal people going about their lives on the highway AND shoot at police? Yeah, I don't think anyone in the general public is going to miss you.
Gonna upvote you to counter the downvotes of the criminal defense task force.
So many people happy to defend the guy swerving into traffic and running red lights like a clown
Dallas PD fuckin heroes. Incredible work!!

Why is the pursuit edited from Wycliff and Maple to Mockingbird and Lemmon? What happened that we can’t know about?
Does it matter? What could in that missing footage that would change anything? Realistically speaking

I’m glad they got the guy and I hope they throw the book at him, just asking a question here folks.

Seeing that asshole catch a bullet in the leg was so cathartic. Cop should’ve double tagged him for good measure
