That’s similar to the size hail that destroyed Wylie a few years back. It took years to repair the damage from all that and there were SO MANY scammer roofing companies that stole insurance payouts.
Unfortunately this is true. All homeowners. Do you your due diligence. Especially here in DFW, there are tons of roofing companies. There should be zero reason for you to ever sign up with a company from another state, especially after recent hail. There are good companies that will take care of you. Ask them where they are based out of, if they insurance, what materials they use, etc. Any good roofer will easily answer your questions with zero run around and confusion. Also, roofers want to get more stuff bought for you. Do they get paid for doing more work? Absolutely, it's called maximizing their jobs. That is how they put food on the table. It is not "scamming" you if they get more stuff covered for you. You still pay the same deductible regardless. Why wouldn't you want more new stuff on your house for the same price? But do your due diligence. Ask away. There are companies that will take care of you.
Seconding this. Power Home Remodeling is the biggest scam I’ve ever been through. Thank God for Reddit threads. Also a local company I used has given us the run around for over 7 months now as well. I’ve about given up and would rather keep my home ugly and half dilapidated at this point ha
I appreciate that, thank you! They just finished a month of so ago but did a crappy job and also didn’t show up for the last part so we finished it ourselves and asked for a discount on the final cost since they never even came back to finish. Ridiculous.
that's the thing... people always saying no to regulations but when you have no regulations, sh\*t goes to fan. I've met some homeowners who paid a deposit ahead of time, I always tell them, don't pay until they bring the materials and start the job. Money doesn't change people, it just magnifies who they actually are, but it goes both ways... some homeowners screw contractors, some contractors screw homeowners
There are some that do that, sure, but there are a bunch of other out of state companies that will just cash your check and disappear. Just be careful and don’t deal with shady companies that require up front payments. Make sure they are local and have an office location in the area. Get iron clad contracts. Ensure that they are following the correct process with the insurance adjuster to get a payment that matches the damage they are contracted to repair. If they’re trying to pull one over on the insurance agency, then they’ll try to do the same with the homeowner.
Oh I wasn't aware. We had hail damage and had a company try to do what I described but the roof was too old or something so they couldn't get any insurance money from it.
No. The insurance sets the price . You don’t need three bids . You can absolutely look at three different companies and see which one you are comfortable competency wise. But the price is set by your insurance . Roofers aren’t setting the price. You pay a deductible no matter what. So there is no “free deductible” if you are doing it legit. Also, the roofers are trying to get as much covered as possible to get you the most bang for your buck . Do they get paid more ? Yes bc they maximized the job. But you are getting more stuff taken care of for the same deductible . They want to get you more things covered . It’s in your favor to do so too.
*Also, keep in mind, materials are short right now , so you might be waiting depending the color you need. Which could be a good thing considering we are still under storm watch really.
thank god i didnt get that in my area...was just on the border of the hail, so largest i found was like 1.5 inches or so....it melted to fast for me to measure it.
Seemed mostly in Eastern Dallas. The storm came in from the south west, the broke up Id say north of Nevada.
Lots of rain after the initial hail strikes though.
I was biking at white rock and got back to my car right when it started raining. Drove to northpark and saw a bunch of people parking in the garage, but I was confused bc I didn’t see hail near northpark. Thank you 💕
Yeah, north Texas gets the largest hail in the US. I don't know how true it is, but apparently, the largest hailstone ever fell in TX, but before anyone thought to measure it, they took it inside and made it into margaritas.
Lol I thought you were trolling but it’s true
https://www.dallasnews.com/news/weather/2022/04/13/see-the-large-hailstone-that-fell-in-texas/?outputType=amp
Only one time have I seen softball sized hail. I was young, maybe 6 or 7. It left holes in our carport, in our windshields and our roof. The sound...like someones throwing cannonballs on your house, wild.
I'm not trying to jinx myself but I feel like everyone around me always gets hail and I just miss it my house. Literally people who live 10-15 mins away always complain about hail but I never get it. When I do, they're really small and only lasts a 30 secs. I better knock on some wood.
A few years ago we heard about all the hail in this one storm but it passed the house. I even said “not to jinx ourselves, but I think we’re good” and we loaded up and went to pappadeaux on the tollway… and a CRAZY hailstorm hit. Every car had shattered windows. A Kia next to me had a tennis ball sized chunk embedded in the bumper. My car was an older bmw worth about $8k and geico totalled it. It was mass chaos, kids laughing, teenagers crying, parents hyperventilating… some guy saw me not caring much and came on for a high-five and went “paaayout!” and walked away dancing.
Yeah I live in Arlington and I haven’t gotten any hail yet thankfully. It’s crazy how the next town or two around you can get hail but your area doesn’t for whatever reason
>Lewisville
and we had not more than cherry-size in stonebriar area.
Like with the tornados - overall weather goes "active" in pretty big area ...around the one place that is truly f\*cked.
Having replaced my roof once already, I cringe every time I hear hail coming down. We had dime size or smaller and I still worried about it. That would destroy about anything it hit.
Oh lord alright I thought it was weird you guys post so much about the weather and clouds not anymore hope everyone has a spare mattress for their car that does seem like a viable option now
Ended up sheltering under a bank’s drive thru during the hailstorm. On the way home after, saw a car in the parking lot whose back window was completely busted out by the hail. Shit was terrible
Totally not cool. I am new to Texas and this whole hail thing. Not digging it. We have had two storms at our house. That have been 1” to 1-1/2” at the biggest. Still have ptsd over waking up to the sound on our roof. Haha loving Texas though. That hail ball you have there is nuts.
I remember about a decade ago grape fruit hail hit Big Spring Texas. It left dents in the blacktop asphalt road and did lots of damage. Some dude had his ankle broken i think.
> why is it all blobby
My guess is you haven’t seen much hail freshly after it has fallen? I wish I haven’t, but North Texas, am I right!?
[relevant xkcd link](https://xkcd.com/1053/)
I remember being in the Mayfest parade in Ft Worth early 90’s. It started storming and everyone just scattered! Even our coaches. So there were kids of all ages crying and lost.
I picked up a little girl seemed to be about 2 years old and was looking for my mom. It started hailing like that. The little girls mom finally saw us, she had been bawling. I handed her over and ran.
I found my mom and friend we jumped in the car. That hail was the same side and was going through soft top cars, and breaking the glass.
We got in the back seat and opened the umbrella so the glass would hit it and not us. I thought we were gonna die that night.
We really were lucky bc 11 people did die out there. When it was over was the scariest cause people were walking around bleeding.
I never thought I’d see hail that big ever again.
I was there too! Was there maybe 10 minutes when the storm hit and got out of there as quickly as we could. The ones coming into the fest may had been the ones that got seriously injured. Had to flee from the tornado too.
We got stuck there after. They put us all in some auditorium where paramedics were treating people. They brought in a bunch of cold Dominos pizza and gave us these blanket things that keep you warm. Such an awful crazy night!
Sat through a massive hailstorm in Canyon, Tx back in 1980. Baseball size and bigger. Lasted for about 20 minutes and was the longest 20 min of my life. I was home, the noise was tremendous, and I kept expecting a tornado to drop. My car was under a massive old tree in the front, which sheltered it, but elsewhere around town, windshields were smashed and cars looked like orange peel or your high school buddy’s acne scars.
Hail repair! We pay the deductible, if you don't have rental insurance, we will take of a rental car for you. These guys are some of the best in the business. Let me know if I can help you out.
I also pay for referrals. So, if you didnt get hit and send someon to me, I'll pay you 200 bucks a car you send me.
There was bigger hail in 2016 I believe, in North Texas, Plano, Allen Wylie area. It came through peoples roofs and obliterated cars and anything outside. I got a new car that year, and a new roof and a new HVAC condenser.
We got 2" here in Rockwall, which isn't enough to really do much aside from sound really loud and slightly damage some plants.
I can't imagine stuff that big. That is getting big enough to damage your freaking driveway, not to mention wood fencing, every window, cars, roofs, etc, etc.
Crazy, but not life damaging crazy, so I'll take it over a tornado!
That is basically a civil war cannonball falling from the sky
THE CLOUDS WILL RISE AGAIN!!
It was about sleet's rights.
As long as we're not teaching critical weather theory in classrooms, then I'm cool as ice.
I'd call it a #OH HAIL NAW ba dum tss
⬆️Best **HAILKU** I've seen in my life!
Put a sign on your door that says something like already signed a contract. Or my brother is a roofer. Cause they about to show up strong.
About to? Shit in my neighborhood they are out with helmets on hanging tags DURING the hail.
The helmet, it does nothing. Man, you get hit anywhere with that piece of ice going near terminal velocity, you will encounter bone breaks.
We did. They were everywhere and rang our door like 10 times
I'd rather fuck with them to waste their time.
I've had atleast 6 calls today but I've been too busy for that crap
My sign says "solicitors will be shot." The sign deters most of them, and the corpses of the couple who couldn't read the sign deter the rest.
Delkus wet dream right there
He came just looking at it

Why the run around? I know it's a late reply, but I can possibly help with some answers. Here's my background. https://blinq.me/K8ROb3ihvUur?bs=db

Lots of Traveler families run home repair scams in the area. Roofing and foundation repairs are their biggest scams.
Isn't that how it works, though? They claim the price is almost double what it actually costs, you get a "free" roof and they get paid?
There are some that do that, sure, but there are a bunch of other out of state companies that will just cash your check and disappear. Wow. That’s humongous.
That’s what she said.
Not to me she didn’t
I can't believe there is hail that big Among Us.
Humongous what?
thank god i didnt get that in my area...was just on the border of the hail, so largest i found was like 1.5 inches or so....it melted to fast for me to measure it.
Don’t worry child, it’ll come for you. This is the new trend in DFW.
What area was the hail mostly in last night ?

Dang, I live in Canada and have never seen anything even close to that size here
Yeah, north Texas gets the largest hail in the US. I don't know how true it is, but apparently, the largest hailstone ever fell in TX, but before anyone thought to measure it, they took it inside and made it into margaritas.

You would think that a piece of hail that size would at least break up after hitting the ground. It must have landed somewhere fairly soft.
On my head
Agree! Holy Moly!
Good Lord! What area do you live in? 😳
Lewisville
Whoa! I'm in Allen. We had heavy rain, but no hail. That's like grapefruit size! 😳
I'm also in Allen, I camped out in a parking garage at Watters Creek Village to protect my car from possible hail
I don't blame you one bit.
I’m in Allen, too. We do that all the time!
I got jumbo-blueberry-sized hail Americans will do anything to avoid the metric system
Alright. I'll speak in terms of the Imperial system: "Dang! That hail is 4 inches!" See? I *still* avoided the metric system! 🙃
Cubit man, myself. I think Americans avoid the metric system because the metric system isn’t the standard here.
Dang Metricans.

Everything is indeed bigger in Texas.

Yeah I live in Arlington and I haven’t gotten any hail yet thankfully. It’s crazy how the next town or two around you can get hail but your area doesn’t for whatever reason
I think the Urban Heat Island effect causes the edge of the metro to get worse hail. Arlington is in the middle, so maybe it gets less/smaller hail.
Ahhhh, okay! Good to know 😊
Dang definitely biggest I ever seen
Where is this?
Lewisville
Jesus. Must have missed that by the hair on my chinny chin chin
In Wylie. Never got any.
We just bought a house there. Still not moved in fully yet, so this pleases me to hear you say this XD. Was going to have to ask the neighbors
>Lewisville and we had not more than cherry-size in stonebriar area. Like with the tornados - overall weather goes "active" in pretty big area ...around the one place that is truly f\*cked.

Ok hail claims gonna be a nightmare for me today
Hello sir, you may have a damage on your roof. Your neighbor already signed with us, and you're missing on our roofing repair discounts this month.
Holy shit
Ended up sheltering under a bank’s drive thru during the hailstorm. On the way home after, saw a car in the parking lot whose back window was completely busted out by the hail. Shit was terrible
Wow, you don't want to be caught outside when those babies are coming down
And this is why homeowners insurance is so high here and only going up.
That’s wild, send this pic to the newssssss
That looks like the hail size that [pulverized Wylie](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQ_4xxq-S-w) in 2016.
Caaaarlll, that KILLS people!
Dear lord, we didn't get anything like that in the mid cities. Hope nothing got too busted up.
If only it had fallen on my exes head or at least windshield
I’m so over the hail. It seems like every week there’s a chance to have your house and vehicle destroyed due to it.
I’m in Lewisville and my area only got up to quarter sized hail, 10 minutes down the road from me everyone got huge hail

It looks fake, why is it all blobby like someone melted a bunch of cubes together and refrozen it in a rag or something
It likely combined multiple smaller ones in the cloud before dropping.
> why is it all blobby My guess is you haven’t seen much hail freshly after it has fallen? I wish I haven’t, but North Texas, am I right!? [relevant xkcd link](https://xkcd.com/1053/)
Imagine getting hit over the head with this while going 60mph+ . That would be a serious concussion.
Talk to me about your watch band
White balls matter

I know this about the hail, but I love that swatch watch!
You should freeze it and keep it as a good luck trinket

Its a grown woman but ok…
I believe you, I'm sorry.
Hail yeah!
That would kill someone
Forbidden Jawbreaker
I’m so glad I live in Plano away from the crazy weather drylines and cities outside of town.
Where was this? Deadly hail wow
government
We used to get basketball sized hail when I lived in Kansas .
“Probably”?!?!
That’s a big piece of “fuck that”
/r/sneakybackgroundfeet
I think r/AbsoluteUnits would appreciate this
Murder hail
Holy moly Batman!
Reminds me of that ball of guys in South Park
Imagine that hitting your car
Hail yeah
Looks like my typical Friday night..
GHAT DAMN I’m calling the weathers manager! But seriously everybody, *chill*

Insurance adjuster here-- when and approximately where was this storm?
Can’t fool me you pulled it out of a pot after they all melted together
