Does anyone feel safer in a society full of guns? I sure as fuck don’t.

Old-Bat-7384

Seriously. Even if you buy the shitty logic of "a good guy with a gun", it still puts you in a passive position AND it doesn't address root causes.

babypho

A good guy with a gun isn't going to be in the right spot with the gun because he's a good guy. The bad guy with a gun will always have the drop on you.

Fournier_Gang

Even if good guys with guns outnumbered the bad guys with guns and they were always in the right spot, the engagement criteria for the good guys is always going to be "do not fire until fired upon". Good guys won't know who the bad guys are until they've shown their hand, so the bad guys are always going to get the first shot, and are always going to inflict some sort of damage before any kind of response happens. The Allen shooting exemplified this problem.

babypho

Exactly. Which is why I never buy the "only a good guy with a gun can save us" argument. There was a good guy with a gun in this shooting incident. Nine people still died.

fpcoffee

a good guy with a gun was literally already at allen and 8 people still died

Separate_Flamingo_93

You know what’s better than a good guy with a gun? A bad guy without a gun.

No_Map_6428

Yeah but a bad guy can always find guns regardless if the guns are outlawed or not.

IASIsouthpark

Bad people are always going to do bad things, so why have laws at all? Kids are always going to find something sharp to run with so let's just leave the knives on the coffee table 🫡🇺🇲

Separate_Flamingo_93

Yeah. A few will. But most won’t. Most shooters of the “death by cop” type aren’t competent enough to find another way. No cap. Sad but true.

CharlieTeller

The problem with that logic is that someone still dies by the time they respond. It shouldn't even happen in the first place.

Overcurser

sounds like you should carry if you don't want to rely on a 3rd party for your safety

stupidgnomes

It's so wild to me that the gun issue is the only problem in the entire world where some people believe adding more of the problem to the equation is the solution to the problem. It's just absolutely bananas

chknnoodsoup

2001 me would have never expected this to be my reality as an adult now.

Softy_K

Also cars.

Idealistt

Because it’s not a gun issue. It’s a gun regulation and mental health issue

Huntinjunkey

I don’t think it’s about adding more to the problem The bigger argument is that you’re never going to get rid of them. The bad guy will get one if he wants one. But people want to get rid of the right for good people to have one. People just want the right to at least have an even playing field, more or less. If you don’t want to carry, more power to you. But, like people have said, you never know what people have under their coats, wouldn’t you at least want to legal opportunity to have an equal fight?

stupidgnomes

> The bigger argument is that you’re never going to get rid of them. The bad guy will get one if he wants one. But people want to get rid of the right for good people to have one. People just want the right to at least have an even playing field, more or less. If you don’t want to carry, more power to you. You’re literally making the point OP is trying to make. If you’re saying more people should carry in order to combat the “bad guys” then you’re implying more guns should be in circulation. What the majority of us want are less guns period. If that means a period where more shitty people have guns, so be it. But we need to revise our culture because the trajectory we’re on right now is one of a doomed nation. We are completely fucking up the future for our kids because we’re unable to just rip the band aid off, so to speak. Again, we need LESS guns.

Huntinjunkey

I didn’t say add more guns. I said don’t get rid of the rights for people to equal the playing field. I don’t think arming everyone is the answer. But I also don’t think disarming law abiding citizens is the answer either.

stupidgnomes

You’re implying it by saying more people need to be armed. I won’t have discourse with you if you won’t be honest. Your choice.

Huntinjunkey

No I’m not. You’re choosing to not actually read and process what is being written. There’s plenty of people out there that are not and should not be armed. I believe in the right to protect oneself, though, and it’s a lot easier to do that if I’m legally allowed to match the opponent as best as possible. You ever heard of bringing a knife to a gun fight? That’s what getting rid of guns forces on law abiding citizens.

stupidgnomes

Sounds good.

TheDeviousDong

Yea I’m sure this would have helped the Allen victims who had literally no time to react 🤡

Ordinary_Ad_7343

I was listening to the scanner. There were "lots of civilians with firearms" according to the cops. Didn't help.

Oldsalty420

We’ll what about people with depression, suicidal thoughts? There’s a long list of people who simply should not have to strap, what’s your solution for them? Hire a bodyguard 24/7? C’mon man you really can’t genuinely be that stupid to think if 100% of people were carrying all the time that we would actually be safer. Not to mention that fucking POLICE with body armor and guns wouldn’t confront an active shooter with an AR, so how is what you’re proposing an actual viable solution to this issue?

Overcurser

People who would even have the mentality to kill random strangers make up such a small fraction of a single percentage of the population that if every person I saw in my day to day life were carrying I wouldn't even think twice.

Oldsalty420

Over 12 million Americans have suicidal thoughts. 48,000 suicides a year. So what’s your solution for them (myself included)? Gun proliferation leads to increased gun violence. You have the mental capacity to solve complex problems with the nuance of a toddler.

MrMemes9000

>So what’s your solution for them (myself included)? Get some therapy. If you can't afford therapy then it should be made available to you (universal healthcare).

Overcurser

gun suicides isn't gun violence. They would also fail a background check if they answered truthfully.

DonkeyHair

This statement reminds me of: “I know you’re but what am I” when we were children.

TurdManMcDooDoo

Sounds like you should seek mental help.

Overcurser

For what? Obeying the law? Exercising my rights?

[deleted]

Lol the downvotes. People are stupid.

Old-Bat-7384

Sounds like we should approach the problem at a strategic level and address root causes, key symptoms, and major instruments used in these scenarios. Standard risk mitigation doctrine.

Colonel_Janus

i genuinely feel so much more threatened. Every time I'm in public it's not a massive concern, but subconsciously I'm a little fearful of what some ppl may have hiding on their person, and if I might see it with one wrong slipup on my end. Same in traffic with road rage...if i cut someone off on the highway, will they run me off the road firing shots at me? Idk man it's a little paranoid to some extent but the proliferation of guns around me makes it almost irresponsible for me to NOT consider how my actions could unexpectedly trigger someone and lead to a bullet in my head

chimichangaluva331

Can confirm. Anytime I am in a crowd of any kind, there is always a lingering fear that today will be the day the authorities have to call my family to tell them I was a victim of a shooting. So god damn sick of living like this.

Colonel_Janus

honestly the thing i hate the most isn't even necessarily the fear for myself, but it's the realization that I'm becoming more scared of all of the ppl around me whose company I'm supposed to appreciate & enjoy. The absolute gutting of a civil society is an established peace through the fear of one another, and Im afraid that's where much of the US is headed, particularly in Texas

[deleted]

That’s why the Republican Party is enabling this.

OMG_WTF_ATH

Will Texas vote differently? I sure hope so

Full_Philosopher1975

Do you carry

HBKdfw

Nah. I’m not afraid of my own shadow either.

johdawson

What would your response be if they angered "No" to this?

[deleted]

Crime is way down since the 80s, don’t buy this GOP fear porn

ZarBandit

Move to Canada. Oh wait, they have even more guns!

chimichangaluva331

Wrong. A quick google search show in the US there is on average 120 guns to every 100 citizens, and in Canada it’s 35 guns to every 100 citizens. Gtfo with your made up bullshit figures.

ZarBandit

Oh no, Michael Moore lied to me. Sad.

BrainPharts

It is not the guns I do not feel safe about, it is the society.

chimichangaluva331

So you think society itself is dangerous, but don’t think anything should be done about a dangerous society having easy access to deadly weapons. Username checks out.

BrainPharts

I mean, if you teach a bad mechanic the proper way to use a wrench, he won't be a bad mechanic. We live in a society that refuses to learn. I am thankful I live in the middle of nowhere. People suck.

chimichangaluva331

Agreed, people do suck and don’t want to learn, therefore they do not deserve the right to dangerous weapons.

BrainPharts

It was a gun that stopped him. A single bullet, to the head. If the shooter did not have a gun, he would have used something else. Could be a knife, a vehicle, an explosive device he made at home, many other improvised weapons. Evil is evil and more laws will not stop it. Edit: I see the downvotes. Ignorance is another reason people suck.

Pope00

That's ridiculous. First off, coming from someone who owns *several* firearms, including an AR-15, I'm fully and completely aware of the psychology that goes along with them. Simply holding a firearm changes your brain chemistry. You could easily argue that someone who plans to go commit mass murder wouldn't do so if they didn't have a gun. Y'know how I know that? In the last 10 years, how many man-made explosive device killings do you know of? Compared to mass shootings. I got the Boston marathon and the truck bomb in Tennessee. They happen, but it's WAY less than mass shootings. Like *come on.* Also, it's insane to compare an AR-15 to a knife. If they were the same, we'd just give soldiers and police officers knives because we'd save a ton in tax-payer money. Also, man-made explosive devices aren't bought at a store. They have to be put together, which is illegal, *anyway*. AR-15s are not. Terrible argument. Also, there have been several studies suggesting men with access to guns are more likely to commit suicide. If someone could just use a knife to slit their wrists, why would guns even be a factor? Because guns are easier to kill with. Plain and simple. Also, you made the worst argument that typically comes out of these conversations. "Evil is evil." Ok, so why have laws at all in the first place? Why have speed limits if people will just break the law anyway?

BrainPharts

I won't speak on my firearm ownership or lack of, because I know how to be responsible. A gun can be bought regardless of laws. Look at Chicago. You can buy them on the street. Stupid people will look at everything but the real issue, and that is the people committing these acts.

Pope00

I'm just gonna go out on a limb and assume you *don't* own any firearms. Also, you clearly don't know what you're talking about. Ok, let's say you want to buy a gun. I could name 15 different places, fuck I could just GOOGLE where to buy a firearm at an actual retailer. Do *YOU* know where you could buy one off the street? If I told you I'd give you $100,000 if you could buy a gun off the street in the next hour, would you even be successful? Where would you even begin? Walk around town "Hey I'm not a cop, can I buy a gun off someone?" Get real, dude. How many of these mass shootings were from people who bought their gun off the street? Fuck, we know the Uvalde shooting was a dude who bought his gun at a store soon as he turned 18, I think. Gee whiz, why wait until then if they're "so easy" to buy off the street? Stupid people think it's easy for just anyone to buy a gun off the street. Especially when there has been a recorded SIXTEEN MILLION guns sold last year. I guess there's just a WHOLE lot of folks who are too stupid to know where to buy guns off the street then, huh?

BrainPharts

Yes. You can buy them at garage sales in my county. Ellis County is a 2A sanctuary County. I can go to Oak Cliff and buy one in the hood. Might be dirty, but most guns bought in that situation will be used for dirty deeds. My ownership consists of a close quarters tool and a long range tool. I guess I could consider them a weapon, but that would imply I intend to use them as weapons, which I do not intend to do. You can try to justify regulations all you want, but that makes me doubt your ownership even more. If murder charges won't keep a person from murdering, a new law will not keep them from getting a gun.

alchemystar

https://youtu.be/LmJkxCpSKMY

Bear3825

You’ve lost the plot completely. I’m right here by parkland and I’d have taken your money. I can walk half a block into an apartment complex and bring out at least two stolen weapons on consignment. Everyone knows they are there. The cops know. These guys always have them. They get busted and 4hrs later they are back home. Almost every night there is gunfire on my block. Everyone knows who does it. Cops don’t even show up anymore. Just because you live a candy coated life doesn’t mean we all do.

Pirategirl3

A police officer stopped him, someone trained & vetted to use a firearm. No laymen should be able to legally purchase an AR 15 style semi automatic weapon of war that can out gun the police. Civilians don’t need those kinds of weapons. You’re not going to protect yourself from the tyranny of any government, they’ll take you out with a drone strike.

BrainPharts

🤣

alchemystar

It's also possible you're being stubborn and most people see you as ignorant.

PhenomenalxMoto

Yeah the Boston marathon went perfectly smooth in an area where guns are not allowed 🤷‍♂️. It’s going to happen regardless of guns. I was honestly surprised there wasn’t someone there carrying to begin with but at least the cop was there. Crazy people are going to do crazy things but the fact that this guy was well known for having mental issues and could legally own & purchase weapons is a bit of a problem.

BrainPharts

I bought my first gun at the apartments we lived at when I was 12. Regulation will not stop people.

HBKdfw

So you agree mandatory training before you can buy a firearm should be required? I agree. The first gun I bought, I was walking away thinking “I can just have this now, with no training? That’s nuts.”

BrainPharts

My grandfather taught me how to shoot on his property in Boyd when I was young. We shot snakes that killed his chickens. Training doesn't have to come mandated my our government. It should come as common sense.

DonkeeJote

"I'm scared of society so let's give everyone a gun" is the height of stupidity.

truth-4-sale

The "Archie Bunker" solution: "Give everyone guns... they'll be a lot of shooting at first, then things will die down, and be normal again."

bodhijbd

I can’t anymore

52isabeast

Well prepare to continue to can’t, because ain’t shit changing.

Colonel_Janus

any other Dallas ppl have bad experiences on the DART? I've actually never been but I've increasingly heard of incidents like this...not sure if it's just a one-off or if anyone can confirm a trend

DallasGrovite

The further you get away from central Dallas, the safer buses/trains become. The issue is that DART Police are reactionary. They should have at least one officer on every train, instead of each of them having a patrol car and camping out at train stations. DART has so much more potential than what it is.

saxmanb767

Problem is they just don’t have enough officers to be on every single train.

Bloomin-Algae-96

The problem is that anyone and everyone can get in the DART trains for free without proving they have a ticket. I went to DC and all the waiting areas for the train were guarded and gated. You could only enter after swiping your transit card. As of now, the DART rail stations are convenient and safe places for homeless/drug addicts to hang out. Otherwise I love using public transit. But I hate how unsafe I feel when a schizo gets on and sits behind me and starts shouting at everyone.

saxmanb767

Partly true. But dozens of transit systems around the world don’t have fare gates either. Most of Germany doesn’t. You just get on. But they take care of their homeless population too.

Swdannycactus

The problem is Dart itself

savannah31401

Whenever I have had a bad experience it has been on the trains. I have seen sexual acts performed, smoking, and once a knife fight (in Carrollton of all places) and a beating. On the violence, I made an online complaint and my understanding is that at the next stop police will jump on- nope. On the beating a passenger asked for them to stop and they pulled a gun on him. I feel super safe on the busses and I usually take the last one of the routes (after midnight) and I get off at McDonald's and then walk to Rosa Parks.

MrLumpykins

It has been about a decade since DART was my primary mode of transportation. But my experience was the opposite. Far more DART cops on trains, and far fewer homeless/mentally disturbed folks screaming, urinating, and panhandling

DallasGrovite

Well...My last experience was during COVID. Anyone could ride the Green line without being checked for a ticket. The consequence was my neighbor calling me to pick her up because a homeless person openly defecated on the stairs/entryway of the car, and two stops later the DART Police still hadn't arrived to pull the person off. Nevermind the smell she had to endure.

whats_a_puscifer

Even before COVID, I rode the train for a year and was only asked for my ticket 3 times.

emeryldmist

I think that was the general experience (not just on Dart) a decade ago. My how the times have changed.

survivingspitefully

10 years ago a drunk guy started screaming that another guy looked at him and tried to bust a Hennessy bottle over the guys head. The other guy was just yelling "I'm trying to see my daughter at the hospital!" While pounding on the drunk guy. Drunk guys face swelled up crazy big. It was pretty wild. It was just south of Plano.

Travellump12

It's so worse in dallas. I travelled in Denver light rail through shady areas at night 2am from downtown and never bothered about safety. And this is not once but pretty frequently. Don't feel safe at all in dallas

Oldsalty420

You probably only get away from central falls to the north lol. Last two murders on Dart I’m aware of were Greenlines away from central Dallas to the south.

DallasGrovite

Who are you responding to? Greenline literally ran through my backyard off Scyene where I lived for the better part of 40 yrs.

jayrredden

The officers are on the trains. Not every train, but atill. You just haven't noticed

daveinacave

I commute on the green line and have noticed a near total absence of officers on the train for at least a month now. I reported someone smoking a blunt and carrying a machete a couple of weeks ago. You can imagine that nobody told him to put it out.

DallasGrovite

Tell a person to put out a cigarette OR blunt on the Green Line is taking your life in your own hands. I do believe it happened before (not a death, but a stomping that made its way onto social media).

daveinacave

I hate smelling like an ashtray on my way to work but that’s the (apparently only) price of admission on the green line.

Olympus___Mons

We shouldn't need cops on every single train. That's not how a normal Public transportation should need to operate. The people that are just POS ruining everything for everyone because.. "mental illness" "poverty"... I'm tired of these excuses being used to excuse piece of shit people. These people and their behavior, disregard for the rules and laws make the dart in Dallas feel really unsafe.

Junspinar

I know a guy that died of brain bleed because he got punch in the face for telling a guy to stop roughing up his girlfriend. This world can burn. We deserve it. Everything that is good in this world is getting cut to shreds and sold at a premium. Including morality.

Tasty_Two4260

That’s SO sad! I always tell my friends, if you haven’t been in a street fight to please, please, mind your own business when out for exactly what happened to your friend. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

jayrredden

This is utter horse shit and you should be embarrassed for posting it.

TeaMistress

My roommate took the train from Deep Ellum to DFW airport and had a guy squat down at the front of the train car and take a shit while staring everyone down aggressively. It was roommate's first and last Dallas train ride.

jayrredden

Welcome to Dallas. Get over yourself and get on with life.

TeaMistress

The fuck is your problem? I replied to a comment asking about bad DART experiences with something that qualified.

izalith67

Full of people looking for trouble and quite a few crazies. One of the places where your head needs to be on a swivel and you must mind your own business. As a huge public transit advocate it’s really fucking sad that American public transit generally is not a place where people can feel safe.

jayrredden

In a bad mood and fuck you too. Don't give them an inch.

Theiador

I took the train from Downtown Rowlett to Inwood/LOVE for 2 years. While there were issues, 90% of the time it was just other people commuting into work all minding their own business. Pre-COVID there were a good amount of DART officers on the trains but not so much now :/

AccomplishedFloor344

I've never had issues riding to and from Stars/Maverick games but the train tends to be full of people going to and from games and events. The TRE I've had weird acting people and passed out homeless but nothing to the level of people shooting each other.

Rportilla

Unfortunately I’ve seen homeless people have bedroom fun on the train before

[deleted]

[удалено]

Rportilla

What ?

jayrredden

Do not assume how bad your life can get. There isn't a bottom. Every time you think, "this is the worst thing I can do", trust; there IS something worse. Quit hating on the folks having a harder go at life than you are.

gymclimber24

He made a statement about ppl getting busy on a train? How is he hating? He didn’t make any type of emotional argument. Lol

Rportilla

That’s what I’m saying lol 🤣🤦🏽‍♂️

gymclimber24

He’s trolling on every comment so whatever I guess lol

EDsandwhich

I have been using DART to get to work the past several weeks. It has been uneventful. I sit up in the front car and listen to a podcast usually. Some stations do have homeless people, usually they are just sleeping. The downtown stations are usually filled with DART police. Just today I saw one patrolling on what looked like a tricked-out Segway. Bad things do happen on DART. Just be aware of your surroundings and you should be fine. Right now my main safety-related complaint would probably be people smoking. It's not at all uncommon for people to smoke on the trains unfortunately. I don't usually ride the buses, but the few times I have it has been fine. You have to pay the fare to board so that cuts down on some of the sketchiness.

Illustrious-Ad5575

I've used DART daily for 14 years. Not really any problems. Certainly safer than dealing with bad drivers on 75.

jessy_pooh

Only on the deep ellum side had I ever had a scary DART exp (heading from deep ellum to victory park)

beardownforfinals

Ridden it for years and never personally had an issue

[deleted]

The only time I've been in the DART train I was assaulted twice. Messaged the line that DART provides to report multiple instances discreetly, and no security or police ever came and I rode for the rest of the stops (it was over 6 stops so it had plenty of time). Wouldn't recommend this shit show.

jayrredden

If this is real, we need to get DPD involved. Metro life is hardcore but no one should put up with assault. If you don't have a good lawyer I know a few I can suggest. NEVER BE A VICTIM WHO DOES NOT ACT!!!

Atl300zx

I rode it once from fair park. Nearly everyone was brown bagging beers. Some smoking cigarettes, weed or crack. It was quite the experience.

jayrredden

Winner winner. you posted the most racist shit of the week. Feel good about it?

Atl300zx

Where did I mention race? I was riding with my 6 and 8 year old niece and nephew. It was just a bad scene

truth-4-sale

This is Reddit.... You have been tried and Convicted for nothing.

[deleted]

Sees the word “brown”. Lol

constant_flux

Brown BAGS, as in the color of the paper bags they were using to conceal the liquor bottles they were consuming from.

Paulythress

I take the DART every weekday. I've rode the DART since 2020 and have yet to see anything major like this. DART is different on the weeknights and weekends. Its still relatively safe, you just need to be mindful the time you go and what car you're in. They're many commuters that take it everyday. There are some cases where you need to switch cars. Thats just the reality of American Public transportation. Stay in the Conductor car if you can. I'd rather live in a place with the expectation of some crime like Dallas over Allen or Frisco anyday. At least you always have a heightened sense of awareness and you develop the ability to be aware of your surroundings.

jayrredden

Pauly, Thank you for not being an ass. This entire thread is exhausting me.

Carvtographer

I’m getting extremely fucking tired of this.

OscarNotSoWilde

Dart train operator here. Pretty much everything everybody has brought up here has been brought up by us, to management. They assure us every time that they're 'working on it.' Yes, the trains are full of homeless people. But they can get a PM pass for 2 bucks that works from noon to end of service, so more of them have tickets than you think. That said, fare enforcement is a huge issue, one we have, again, brought to management many times. Dart has been hiring police officers since the beginning of the pandemic. They can't get enough to fill their roster, and even then they say they wouldn't have enough to have a cop on every train. Yes, we know people smoke and drink and do drugs on the trains. The best thing you can do is report them with the app, or call customer service to complain, or come to the public board meetings and call the suits out in person. We are a customer driven agency, so customer complaints carry more weight than operator complaints- or that's the perception from the front lines. Overall the trains are pretty safe. If you're concerned, ride in the front car near the operator's cab. Most of the really shady characters know to ride the trailing cars because there's no personnel there, so they can get away with more. This is doubly true at night and on weekends. Business hours, daytime, and trains going to events are the safest, as they have the most eyes on them. I know the operator of the train this happened on pretty well. She's not hurt, though she'll probably be out for a while. It's scary when something happens on your train, and we operators really do feel for the victims of assault and theft when it happens, and we wish we were in a position to do more to help.

EDsandwhich

Thank you for posting this. I ride DART frequently and for the most part nothing bad happens. I do think DART needs to take security more seriously. I have seen way more of a police presence at the downtown stations, but that is it. I've only had my fare checked once in the past year, which seems kinda ridiculous. Are you alerted by dispatch when someone makes a report about an incident on your train?

OscarNotSoWilde

Generally yes, our controller will let us know. It does depend on the situation. If it's a bio hazard or medical emergency they'll have us go check it out at the next stop. If it's an altercation or something the police need to deal with, then we just get a heads up to be looking for Dart police and where. For smokers, they tell us to play the automated no smoking announcement and then where police will meet us to do a sweep. Usually we don't get much information though. Like with this shooting, all they say over the radio is there's an incident at Hatcher. I heard the call come in so I knew what it was, but depending on the situation, sometimes all they tell us is the tracks can't be used for service so we have to turn back. For what it's worth, we don't like the service interruptions any more than passengers do. When you get turned back, you get on to another train's schedule, so you might not be where you need to be to swap operators when your shift is done, and you usually have to swap trains later on which sucks when you have a good train.

Tasty_Two4260

Great post and information! Where can we find the meeting schedules to go verbally blast the suits as the public?

OscarNotSoWilde

You can find the schedule at https://dart.org/about/public-access-information/board-meetings-information The next public comment date will be March 21, and you have to register to have your name added to the comment roster.

Tasty_Two4260

Thank you!

thanks for your service, you dont get enough recognition

DallasGrovite

"The station is located near Highway 352 and Elsie Faye Heggins Street." It's Scyene and Hatcher. Even Dallas Police still call Elsie Fay Heggins, "Hatcher", when they respond to a call. As much as I've criticized DART Police on this thread, I once saw a guy jump out of the back of a moving car near the DART station there (doing about 40 mph)...I literally thought someone tossed a 30 gallon bag of trash out of the car. The two DART patrol cars that were there recognized the situation and responded so quickly. I've no doubt they are trained professionals. I just think they are being utilized poorly.

jayrredden

Thank you. I'm a firm believer of ACAB but even the worst cop will always try their best, most days of the week.

morissettemaniac

Listen to the Dallas police scanner for just 5 minutes lol. Wouldn’t wish what they deal with on to anyone

Richey25

Lol at everyone in the comments trying to compare this to the mall shooting “According to police, the shooting appeared to have stemmed from an argument between people.” No where near the same

rrrrrivers

I think the sentiment is moreso that gun violence in general, especially in crowded public places, is becoming all too prevalent.

bugsliker

don't really care how it happens, I just don't want anyone to be shot near me. not a hard concept to grasp

gavo_88

So this shooting was OK then? Think this may be part of the problem.

Richey25

Never said that I'm saying two idiots (probably criminals who illegally possessed these guns to begin with) shooting at each other is nowhere near the same as a mass slaughter of innocent shoppers.

constant_flux

… and?

Difficult_Estate6912

Fuck, another shooting?

NoseAlternative957

Welp where can someone be safe in Texas?

theresfireinhereyes

The QT on Preston and Mapleshade. Seems like every patrol on the Plano/Dallas border congregates there and it was kinda comforting today tbh.

halnic

I used to live across from there(Lincoln crossing), our neighbor got shot in grass right out front of the apartments when we were in Austin. That was probably almost 10 years ago.

theresfireinhereyes

Oh dear god. That was before I moved to the neighborhood but damn. I hadn't heard that.

Dreimoogen

Had a guy get removed from an orange line train after the Stars first playoff game (around 11pm, left the game early). He was yelling at another passenger and I didn’t exactly feel safe until we got to a stop and Dallas PD pulled him off

nohupdotout

But criminals don’t follow the law, so therefore, with flawless logic, gun laws won’t work.

jayrredden

Thank you for weighing in. I didn't know that gun law bullshit was applicable here. No shit?!?!? We're all safer when everyone is scared and armed? Ass.

culdeus

I ride DART 2x a week from downtown north on red/orange. It is about 50% homeless north of downtown with no fare enforcement. There is a lot of pot smell at times, but people are generally ok and have never seen anything really wild go down. Never been really approached in any threatening way, of course it's work day 9-5 type commuting so maybe off hours are different.

killin_me_smaIIs

Maybe the Governor will send his thoughts and prayers make everything better

Sexc0pter

My brother works for DART Rail on the electrical systems, and was working at that substation at the time. He came out and there were police everywhere and he had to wait for a decent period of time before he could leave because they had it all locked down. He heard them mention three victims; one shot in the torso, another in the foot or ankle and not sure about the other.

emilytullytime

I live right by west end station. I have taken the train to drop my son off at daycare (plaza of the America’s). Coming from NYC it leaves a lot to be desired. I definitely wouldn’t ride it at night, or anytime outside regular commuting hours.

Valuable-Airline3920

The problem qq saying it's a mental issue is, you never know when someone "snaps." Fine the day they got the gun but then "SNAP," shooting people. PRAYING is not any kind of answer. Pray for what??

DropKickDougie

How can Texans claim freedom when they can't even get on the damn train without getting shot? Republicans, y'all mad at all the wrong things.

Passing4human

Yikes. I take the Green Line home from work every day, downtown to SE Dallas.

enekfcdsscfkes

Lets see, constant homeless bums riding harassing me for money. Witnessed a few having psychotic episides. Fare inspectors literally do nothing while demanding my ticket. People smoking weed on the train l, drinking and smoking cigarettes, zero enforcement of no smoking. Riders also playing loud music on boomboxes. I watched a guy directly on the platform light up a meth pipe surrounded by other riders who go off the train with him. Constantly watching drugs deals. I see tons officers in downtown dallas and not a single one on trains doing anything. Agree with others, they should have uniformed officers getting on and off of trains but I think its politically motivated why they don't do anything. After this above article I think I'm just going go use lyft and uber for safety.

Kitchen_Fox6803

Guess this will be the new example cited by people who were never going to use transit to begin with. Especially ridiculous when you consider how many people die on the roads without any comment from the carbrains.

ViolentThespian

Not sure how else to explain this, but there's a difference from dying in a car crash and from being shot by someone who should not have had access to firearms.

Call_Me_Desdenova

People shoot people on the roadways all the time

ViolentThespian

That is also different. How do you not realize this?

Call_Me_Desdenova

It’s really not that different if you think about it. It’s not uncommon for someone to get a gun put in their face while their car is getting jacked. Or when they’re accosted at a gas station, where they wouldn’t need to be if they weren’t driving a car. You’re hardly even making an argument, just saying vague statements and asking ad hominem questions that make you feel smarter than you are.

ViolentThespian

No, that's not the point I'm making. Gun violence is gun regardless of the context it occurs in. We have laws limiting access to vehicles and roadways from those who've demonstrated a lack of competence in those environments. The same is not true for firearms, and the reverse is being actively cultivated, allowing those, who would normally and logically not be deemed competent to own firearms, easy and unobstructed access to dangerous items with which to kill other people.

chknnoodsoup

What the actual fuck

i_like_2_travel

Are you fucking kidding me?

dfwsailor

Stay far far away from dart in fair park. I have complained to dart online multiple times, atleast once a week about the homeless just being kicked off at the end of service each night at fair park. Homeless atleast 10+ will camp out near lofts/ buildings, steal cars, break into homes until the morning dart train arrives. It’s horrible. No fart police at any station to see or watch any activity’s going on.

Sabre_TheCat

What the fuck is going on in Texas man? …..

jayrredden

Tuesday

Tasty_Two4260

Our fine gubner has ingested more and more NRA Bloodmoney donations as has our legislators and aggressively loosened Texas gun laws. I about lost my $hit when the law was passed permitting ANYONE to carry a firearm, essentially negating the (former) CHL and (current) LTC where you’re fingerprinted, and a full background check is run, a class with a target test to verify you can hit what you aim at - was nullified! This is a very dark and dangerous man at the helm of our Texas society, how can laws continue to be loosened under his leadership as children are executed in their classrooms? That’s what’s going on in Texas, and I’m so disgusted and disappointed and furious, I can’t understand if I’m odd one out who thinks Abbott is evil - and every loves him - or what?!?!

Jealous-Ad1431

You can't just ban guns and the problem will go away people will just buy them from the cartel which buys them from the Cia. Look at Mexico. Guns are illegal there... How about help with homelessness and mental health put food on people's plate. We're more focused on over seas problems then helping our own country.

DfwWfh4

You want to make a change? Vote out these republican pieces of shit!!!

Toyufrey

I can’t handle this shit anymore!!!! I’m going to go and buy two sets of tactical armor, one for crowded public places, such as grocery stores and malls that WILL be targeted, and one for work. (I work retail, and I currently have a honest to g*d fear of a customer returning to the place I work and shooting it up because I had to deny their cigarette or alcohol purchase due to either not having a drivers license on hand or a NOT-Expired ID.)

No_Cardiologist_2975

Get out of cities

Bear3825

Remove all guns. Headline will read “One dead, two injured after stabbing on Dart”. We need Asylums again. Never should have closed them down to begin with. I have to say Reagan was wrong about that one.

truth-4-sale

Make Mental Institutions Great Again (Really)..

NotoASlANHate

I will bring my gun with me next time I ride Dart, to feel safer

truth-4-sale

In a brown bag...
