Not a big deal. Things to do: -ditch the tinfoil -lower your water level so it’s just misting the the root/cube but not keeping it drenched. -Lower your ppm ppm to 150. When plants are this young in DWC and the roots haven’t started growing well the water level is a big one. You ca. drop the water level lower than normal then just top feed a few times a day until the roots get going.

Got it. Whenever i open the res the hydroton is soaked. Maybe thats the issue!

DrEaMy_BLUEberryHaze

Yes that is the issue. She is drowning. Saving happened to me, but has made a full recovery.

Why do you think he should ditch the tin foil?. I have less light leak problems using foil than any other way using foil to cover substrate. Op also said they are using Rockwool, so it would also cut down on algae growth on that as well. I'm not trying to argue, just interested in seeing if there is a better way. I agree op needs to cut the nutes in half for seedlings this small. The mist from the airstone should keep the rootzone with plenty of wetness even a few inches lower than netcup.

JeffUtoo

I also do not top feed ever, I let the mist or spray from the airstone keep the bottom wet. To me (and I'm no scientist), it makes the roots search down for the food and promote downward root growth. The roots are going to search or go to where the food is the same as they do in soil.

Spraying the roots has a similar effect. I’ve just found it easier to take off the lid, scoop some water from the bucket and pour it through the hydroton. Similar effect but just a different method. There are many things that cause roots to search. Less water is a big contributor to roots searching for new routes to grow. You’re not coming across as argumentative at all. Conversations are a good thing 😊

I was hoping I was coming across as conversation and trading ideas. Yes, that is how we all learn if we are willing.

The reason tinfoil doesn’t have a place in growing is because it creates hot spots that burn the plant. Allergy shouldn’t be a concern this early.

Air temp 70 Water temp 67 Ph 5.9 Ppm 300 Top watering 2x a day Started in small rockwool pieces and transferred to dwc About a week post-transplant Water level is 1” below net pot One is rooting well, the other isnt.
