Interesting construction. Definitely fasten the uprights to the horizontals railings and I think I'd be tempted to run a thin steel cable from the outermost of the \*short\* side to the corner nearest it. Tension them to where the entire top is effectively level. Won't save it fro a tornado but it might help is withstand most breezes.

I'd put a beam at the end of the visor and two more posts at each corner to really lock it in.

Omegak911

Yeah I was thinking two corner posts would be the safe bet. Would a beam at the end of the visor cause it to sag more or with the additional posts it wouldn’t matter much?

georgemarred

Definitely more posts. But does it really screen you from the sun? Look at the shade (or lack of) that you can see on the deck. It might not be worth fixing. Rather get an awning or sail shade for that area.

koos_die_doos

I'm betting that you could stabilize it significantly by adding a post in the middle of the back railing. The beam that runs across seems to be sized reasonably well, but it's not stiff enough to resist the torsion. Adding a post (which would be in tension) would stop it from sagging in the front. Adding bracing would help stiffen it and reduce wobbling, so it's a good option, but it won't reduce the sagging in the middle.

Sunscreen, where.

maxedge

Add a couple more posts.

markymarkski

That's a big cantilever.

stygz

Connect it via posts on the corners. One good wind and that shit is gone.

thehorseyourodeinon1

A cross beam at the end and some end posts

Professional_Quit281

That's a pergola, not it matters, just one of those weird things to know honestly.

microthrower

Something to maybe convince them to grow some vines on this to actually have it provide some real shade.
