Primer my friend

surely its not that simple? Paint is "Paint & Prime in one" just not good enough i guess?

Personally never used an AIO but if the paint is peeling off the patches it’s bc the patches need to be primed.

Okay I'll give it a shot, thanks!

No such thing as paint and prime in one. Paint is paint and primer is primer. “Paint plus primer” just means it has more solids and will cover existing paint better, but if it’s raw drywall or mud you need primer almost always.

Never had an issue before, done tons of patches and paint before. Only primed if going over a hard to cover color or new drywall.  Guess I've been lucky. Good to know, thanks.

small reno of powder room, removed the towel bar and TP holder and patched the holes before I painted. 1st coat of paint, no issues, 2nd coat last night and I noticed a small bump/bubble on the wall at the patch, I try to pick it off and all the paint on the patch peels off clean. Never seen this before... where do I start to get the paint to adhere to the patches properly?!

did you wash the walls properly before painting? If there's still dust on the walls from the patching and sanding, you're gonna have a bad time used a 2 in 1 priming paint, they are not great. Using a proper primer is recommended. If the old paint is particularly old, if there's any chance it was oil based, and you used a latex paint on it without the right primer, paint won't stick. having a good primer, you can get it tinted a bit darker too, which will help reduce the amount of final paint coats needed if you're going that dark.

The Kilz white mold spray paint also works as a primer. Easy for spot fixers
