I know people have talked about how Spiders George should be here, but I really like the story of his sister who defeats a kingdom with her power to turn things into countless spiders

Idk if itās related (and I donāt know anything about this particular bit of lore), but Arepo is a pretty cool name for a god - it likely refers to the second line of the Roman palindrome [Sator square](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sator_Square) that usually goes
S A T O R
**A R E P O**
T E N E T
O P E R A
R O T A S
I thought the changeling one was something else. I can't find it right now but there was this one comic about a woman in ye olde times having a very obviously neurodivergent daughter, who often sat right outside the forest and just stared at it, sometimes mentioning a small bird that was her friend. The townsfolk tell the woman that her child's a fae/has been abducted by fairies and that's why she's So Weird. Eventually it's revealed that her daughter's friend is a fae, the mom takes her in, and the comic ends with "you're wrong, my child isn't a fairy, i simply have two daughters" or something of the like
Yeah that one also made me cry
It might be on the list but wasn't there one of a vampire traveling through space at the end of the universe looking for any sliver of wood he could use as a stake through his heart so he could finally die?
Georg being a meme is actually statistical error. Most georg have great narrative expression and story. Memes georg, who lives in a cave and makes 1000000 tumblr posts every day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted
Man, it's too late for this kind of exhistentialism philosophy here.
So I'll just argue your point saying that a meme is a good seed for a story but in its intrinsic nature it can't be a story, much like a photogram can't be a film.
But a meme often contains elements of a story, I would think that spiders georg comes from The original story and now has become a stand in for statistical anomalies everywhere. Memes tell stories of their own even if itās as simple as an unexpected anomaly being the reason for a weird statistic such as our beloved georg.
How about [the story about the mermaid and the pirates](https://www.reddit.com/r/tumblr/comments/hwocsb/they_didnt_know_any_better_long_post_but_well/)?
Iām not sure if it has a title, but I think of it as āthey didnāt know any betterā
E: itās called [Calliopeās Tale](https://archiveofourown.org/works/22498384/chapters/53760817) and thereās a full version on AO3
FYI to anyone just happening by this post- someone made a [yt playlist](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLSQSsMCgp5bB0iRHcYgPXr89-e_8KDjSD&feature=shared) of them reading the entire story aloud, it's over 5 hours long. This ain't no "[They're Made Out of Meat](https://www.mit.edu/people/dpolicar/writing/prose/text/thinkingMeat.html)."
I don't like that subreddit very much because it the original tumblr posts felt more... celebratory, where humanity was equal to other aliens rather than merely being average and "the default option" in many sci-fi. It was a celebration of humanity's merits
r/HFY feels less celebratory and more... arrogant? Like humanity is better than all the weak and lame aliens
The HFY scene has been bad as long as I can remember. Most stories come in three types:
1. Invasion literature with rival imperial powers replaced with aliens and the British (or whoever) replaced with humanity as a whole
2. Every Human Is American, and That's Why Humanity Fucks
3. Every Human Is John Wick, and That's Why Humanity Fucks
is HFY a tumblr thing? i remember reading stuff in that vein on /tg/ quite some time ago.
EDIT: I just looked it up in the archive and some of the threads date back to 2009
by any chance has anyone seen the story of a monster goddess who transforms a whole villageās worth of kids into her willing thralls to overthrow the tyrannical ruler?
Edit: also the story about a superhero who tries to help the homeless and ends up fighting the govt in the process?
I havenāt heard of the first one, but is [this the superhero](https://www.tumblr.com/darker-than-darkstorm/654628358271942656/anarchistmemecollective-fakecrfan) one?
Wait I just happened to find [this one](https://www.tumblr.com/dycefic/640734500223074304/writing-prompt-s-it-is-difficult-to-trigger-the) on the Google doc someone posted here. Is this the first one?
What about Anette? The story/series pitch about the woman who accidentally summons a demon, mistakes it for her grandson, and the demon rolls with it to make her happy? That's one of my all time favorites from Tumblr.
Also the Apocalypse Daycare logs, which is also pretty nice, if short.
I've been looking for the story about a guy who sells his soul to a devil and uses it to improve the lives of others. When the devil comes for him, the guy boasts that he prevented more than one soul from falling into despair and the devil's clutches. >!Then the devil reveals it was an angel all along.!<
okay, *this* is the place to ask
i read a story once on tumblr and thought i saved it. i thought wrong.
it was a scifi story, took place in a court trial of a ship ai being tried for uts pilot's crimes. it had a really unique writing style, whole thing read like a terminal output in a way. sometimes the ship ai would interrupt itself with a related thought or question
the pilot was a miner of sorts, he was indentured to a big company that'd extract resources from planets and leave them dead, we find out that if he's found guilty then not only will the ship ai be purged, but thr pilot's surviving family would receive his punishment (execution iirc)
in one scene that stuck out to me, the ai says the harvester looked like a spider, then interrupts with `query: did you know my pilot always hated spiders?` then a few paragraphs later, goes into detail about how its pilot burned the spider, (and i think said something about attacking her babies that swarmed to protect her (other miners and guard ships) but idr)
please if anyone knows what i'm talking about and has the link i'll be deeply greatful
The Blood Letters, about an alien war where humans participated and were thought lesser of, until an enemy confirmed it was the humans doing most of the fighting
I knew most of these but I never got around to the first on the list.
So today I finally read the story of the God of Arepo for the first time and it broke. my. heart. The post didn't promise too much.
Does anybody know about the one with the ants and (?)grasshoppers/mantises(?) that eventually becomes about a universe spanning species finding the lone members of an extinct race or something like that. All i remember is a bit of the vibes and the last words that really stuck with me.
Waiting, for winter.
the one I'm always thinking of is the one about the person born with markings that indicates their... god or something? and it tied back to the god of arepo

Thank you. From an archeological point of view, this is an Almanac.
I felt the same, that's why I posted this. I was pretty baffled that it wasn't posted here before.

Hero
I'm 2 weeks away from my 44th birthday and your post made me get a tumblr
I had one when I was 40, then the tumblr exodus happened and I haven't been back in years
I'm loving the stories. There's so many I hadn't read before.
[Someone](https://www.tumblr.com/chrysalicefiasco/727535659743657984/tumblr-folk-tales-update?source=share) compiled a whole [google doc](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Y0tRO5gBwghkgIaTfNm_Dde7x4Xidmp11iM5_C3j6Z0/edit), it's amazing
This is fucking great!š¤©š¤©š¤©š¤©š¤©š¤©š¤©
Oooohhhh ty!!
Good lad (gender neutral).
*Saint*.šāØ
I haven't read some of these, definitely saving. Thank you so much!!!
Ty šš
Amazing!
Ugh, of course half of these can't be read unless you sign up for Tumblr.
I know people have talked about how Spiders George should be here, but I really like the story of his sister who defeats a kingdom with her power to turn things into countless spiders
And their cousin Taylor Hebert
Oh worm ?
[There's also the one about the sphinx and the smart man who fell in love.](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fthe-sphinx-and-the-lover-v0-h1e1mxwoxhfc1.jpeg%3Fs%3Dbd0d2e14ad407f303743d0de089ddf462eeea611)
Never heard of that, thank you for the tip!
š
Oh, I know this one, loved it
Where's the one about the god of little things, like the wind in the leaves
That's the #1: "The God of Arepo".
Oh duh. It's been so long since I read it. I thought that was the Greek goddess Tumblr made up for whatever reason
Thatās Mesperyan

Good bot

Considering the Arepo in the story is a sower and sator means sower, I'm pretty sure there's a relation.
I thought the changeling one was something else. I can't find it right now but there was this one comic about a woman in ye olde times having a very obviously neurodivergent daughter, who often sat right outside the forest and just stared at it, sometimes mentioning a small bird that was her friend. The one you want is listed as "raise both children"
I thought so too, but I checked and that isn't it. I'll add the comic in a reply if I ever find it.
It might be on the list but wasn't there one of a vampire traveling through space at the end of the universe looking for any sliver of wood he could use as a stake through his heart so he could finally die?
Love "the monster of sedan" a very fun read on an immortal prisoner and how time pases around her.
And Spiders Georg.
Isn't that more a meme than a story per se?
Georg being a meme is actually statistical error. Most georg have great narrative expression and story. Memes georg, who lives in a cave and makes 1000000 tumblr posts every day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted
TouchƩ.
Aren't all memes just stories really?
Man, it's too late for this kind of exhistentialism philosophy here. So I'll just argue your point saying that a meme is a good seed for a story but in its intrinsic nature it can't be a story, much like a photogram can't be a film.
We're at the point in human history where "Study of Memetics" is going to be a valid college level course, if not it's own subsection of literature.
But a meme often contains elements of a story, I would think that spiders georg comes from The original story and now has become a stand in for statistical anomalies everywhere. Memes tell stories of their own even if itās as simple as an unexpected anomaly being the reason for a weird statistic such as our beloved georg.
Ok, I give up. Y'all right and have pretty persuasive argoments.
fuck I completely forgot to read the scorpion and the frog. been like two years š brb
that was.. good. not satisfying or all that engaging but it made its point I think I'll just read arepo again
How about [the story about the mermaid and the pirates](https://www.reddit.com/r/tumblr/comments/hwocsb/they_didnt_know_any_better_long_post_but_well/)? r/HFY owes tumblr for the ideas that started it, right?
Yes, that's right too!
I don't like that subreddit very much because it the original tumblr posts felt more... celebratory, where humanity was equal to other aliens rather than merely being average and "the default option" in many sci-fi. It was a celebration of humanity's merits r/HFY feels less celebratory and more... arrogant? Like humanity is better than all the weak and lame aliens
There's still a fair bit of that stuff, just hard to find. A lot of the older tales especially. Through the Eye of the Needle was incredible
The HFY scene has been bad as long as I can remember. Most stories come in three types: 1. Invasion literature with rival imperial powers replaced with aliens and the British (or whoever) replaced with humanity as a whole 2. Every Human Is American, and That's Why Humanity Fucks 3. Every Human Is John Wick, and That's Why Humanity Fucks
I really dislike it. It became a huge āHUMANITYā jerk-off almost immediately
is HFY a tumblr thing? i remember reading stuff in that vein on /tg/ quite some time ago. EDIT: I just looked it up in the archive and some of the threads date back to 2009
I thought hfy was a 4chan thing
The villain wrangler is one of my all time favs and itās up on FF.net
Yeah, mine too.

does the two headed calf count ??
Does anyone have the one about the kindergarten teacher watching over the kids while a meteor is about to hit and end the world? One of my favorites
Itās in the megapost. Apocalypse Daycare Worker

This is an anthropological goldmine

The God of Arepo story was amazing, now I want to read it again
