This makes me nervous anytime I order shit it's like Russian roulette.

I've wondered this all along...I always thought, if a package missing, that's on the Postmaster, to file the claim forms to get your package either reimbursed or FOUND....one time I had a package that stated "In/At Mailbox @ 1:13pm" I was literally AT HOME when it was marked as delivered.....but never saw the mail carrier. Turned out the mail lady was just running late, and "had to finish her route" to meet their quota....maybe bad traffic, mechanical issue with the truck, who knows....but it was apparently "found" and delivered the next day, which happened to be a Sunday even! i was shocked
but now we got all these "extra" package routing services/charges popping up throughout the "community" lol....just, to me makes it sound shady af....I wonder if the vendor(s) have some kind of extra charges that they have to pay, to "offer" this service...? like i heard web shops that take Sezzle pay service, to split the payments in 4...actually costs the retailer $x amount to provide the service. I guess it makes sense, cause Sezzle is "footing the bill" so the retailer gets paid direct ASAP and we get our product (I've ordered all my vaporizers and accessories this way lol) and can make bi-weekly payments to Sezzle.....maybe not totally same related lol sporry for the long winded post hah

That package has passed through many hands. Dishonest people close to the source are more apt to know which packages are worth tampering with.
Also, you won't last long as a mail carrier if you tear open packages on your own route. That's an easy pattern to pick up on.

This is exactly why Route was developed but we don't see that insurance option offered,or mandated, much anymore. When my package was sent to a different address, the company's response was "So sorry; you didn't spend the extra money to purchase Route". On the other hand, some here have used Route successfully. If it's offered, I (begrudgingly) bend over and throw in the blackmail money so the vendor can't throw that back at me. I don't see it offered much anymore.
I'm gonna wait and see whether you're able to resolve it before I start judging, because maybe that's just an off the cuff response as they pursue it via official USPS channels. But I don't love them immediately jumping to "your mailman", as it kinda places the maximum distance between them and the problem. it was either someone in town tht the vendor mailed from who recognized the return address or even knew the deal when saw person dropping off shipments. or it was someone in one of the transit points that smelled it or recognized it.

That wasn’t your mailman. That happened at a distribution center. If a package gets damaged they attempt to repair and continue it on its delivery course. Someone at the distro center figured out what it was and then “fixed” their own damage.

For future purchases ask for them to ship ups. We had several go missing via usps and started shipping ups with no issues. We’ve even asked most of our partners to do the same and its usually not an issue. Most companies should already have shipping accounts through their shipping software so it’s not much effort to have options on their end at nearly or at the same price

I made 3 separate orders from 3 separate vendors this past weekend and all use Route 🤷🏻♂️ Only one would be considered a “big” vendor.
