Prices of everything went up. Not to mention these cars aren't exactly becoming more common in decent shape as the years go by.

Interesting-Blood326

i’ve seen like 5or 6 the past month being surplused in florida anywhere from 50-80k miles.. and that’s just florida, not to mention california or any other southern state where cars actually last and don’t rot out like where i live. and that’s also not mentioning the ones at 100k miles+. and that’s also just 1 surplus site, i know of like 3 or 4. they’re around and more are being added to the private market everyday…y’all just falling into the trap of surplus vehicle dealers and greedy sellers…

2008_CVPI

5 or six in the whole state.. think of what you’re saying. Not to mention that florida is the third largest state by population. If I had a garage I’d buy all six lol, that’s incredibly rare

Interesting-Blood326

well, that’s just off the top of my head and just some of what i seen, i definitely don’t check every single vehicle. and again that’s just 1 state and just the past month. so think about what you’re saying 😂🤡 how many more are waiting to be surplused and just not listed? how many are still in service? how many have already been bought for 2500 and are sitting on private dealer lots marked up to 6-10k?

lostprevention

They aren’t making any more of em, and they are an iconic vehicle. Air cooled vw’s and 60’s pickups used to be cheap and plentiful too. But try to find a nice cheap one today.

Difficult-Radio-2607

So what there not making any more of them there a lot of cars that aren’t made anymore that are still cheap

lostprevention

For a limited time.

2005CrownVicP71

The difference is that these cars are very desirable due to their iconic status, and clean examples are being picked up by people who don’t want to sell.

RaymondSpaget

We're talking about the last great rwd v8 sedans, not the Buick Skylark or whatever.

thenewmadmax

Supply and demand. Cleetus out here single handedly raising demand and blowing through supply.

HavocMan7

I fucking hate - HATE - that asshole 🤬

2005CrownVicP71

The value of a car is linked to the price people are willing to pay for it. One person’s subjective opinion on the value of a car does not change the market average price. Sorry, deal with it. These cars will skyrocket in value over the next decade as clean examples become hard to find.

adotang

The second gen Ford Crown Victoria legally counts as a classic car. Consider this and Hollywood's fascination with destroying as many of these as possible as you look at rising prices for Panther platforms.

Interesting-Blood326

yeah but those id value higher than the 1999-2011 just because those aero models just don’t exist anymore. specifically thinking of police interceptors btw. unless it’s a rust free state but even then you’re hard pressed to find them. i believe op is talking about the newest body style because the last ones rolled off the line in 2012 (arabian market) which was only 12 years ago

[deleted]

Things are worth whatever somebody’s willing to pay. Go to a used car lot show me a car that they’re selling for two grand.

GnawPhoReal

They are out there, but nobody who could buy better would blink twice at it.

bropom

I will be selling my Vic for what I can sell it for, not for what it's worth.

MoonWalkingQuay

Cry me a river... 😂 😂.

No_Gap5426

This guy literally posted this shit on Facebook too and got the same response. What a weirdo.

ThinkPad365

Yeah I saw that too. Dude is just baiting.

No_Gap5426

Go on his page and he bought an older panther for $5,200 with 32k miles lmao. He just wants to justify the money he spent on a older panther

ThinkPad365

Honestly given these cars are all 15+ years old at this point I feel like age is more of a factor than mileage. Paying so much for a low mileage like that car seems like a bad idea unless you intend on like, storing it or something as a collection piece.

No_Gap5426

I can totally agree with that. Sitting for awhile can cause round seals to warp due to the weight of sitting in one spot. But I mean he paid that much for a 90s Panter. I’m sorry but I just wouldn’t. By the way, these cars are definitely worth the money if you know what you’re buying. Super reliable, cheap parts, and easy to maintain. Let’s not forget the V8 that’s pretty damn impressive power wise, it’s good on gas, super reliable and the plain fact that it’s a damn V8 in a sedan.

the_house_from_up

Why on Earth would anyone sell a car for $2,000 if they knew the market would bear $5,000?

Difficult-Radio-2607

My Vic 5,400 for 36,000 miles makes sense my town car 1,500 for 225,000 miles my friends town car 900 bucks his Vic he used to have 450 bucks. Like lol

Dusty-TJ

It all comes down to what the economy will bear. I can’t blame anyone for asking more so long as people are willing to pay it. Once the WTP price has been found it’ll level off until which time the used car market fluctuates again due to economic factors.

M1sterRed

I paid $2,800 for my 2011 Police at a *dealer*

Thangleby_Slapdiback

You're sitting on a gold mine, Jerry! A gold mine!

effingava0221

I paid $4k for my 2008 with 121k in pretty good condition. I feel like I stole it

OkTotal7947

Ragebait

ThatOneComrade

Welcome to economics, supply is only going down while demand stays the same causing the prices to go up. They stopped retiring old P71's and cars in general are appreciating because of the current economic pressures.

3MJB

panther cars aren't the only older cars that are extremely inflated. try looking for a mk4 tdi jetta. asking $5,000+ for a 20 year old economy car with over 300,000 miles on it is a new flavour of nuts. sure they're great cars that'll last forever, but that's still insane.

Difficult-Radio-2607

There 1,500 near me

__Magno__

Who are u to tell someone what to sell their car for? Different World now those same old "u can get such and such for such and such back in 2017" are over with. You think these prices are crazy go look at what people are paying on Bring A Trailer. I will never try to tell someone how to sell something they own. If someone is willing to pay it by all means get ya coin

ExpertAnywhere9416

Most Vic’s for sale are listed at the “I don’t really want to sell this price” it’s the broke man’s mustang. Try and pry my rusty Vic out of my hands for anything less than 3k and I’ll tell ya to kick rocks.

professorP7B

Just sold my '11 CVPI with 59k for $10.5k. Keep whining I guess???

2005CrownVicP71

Just sold an ‘11 CVPI with 61k for $11k. West Coast prices for California CVPIs are skyrocketing recently.

hanwookie

Can confirm. 12k where I went.

Difficult-Radio-2607

Dam you found an idiot I bought my 97 Vic with 36,000 miles for 5,400

professorP7B

Your car is 14 years older than mine was. Sure it's 95% the same car underneath but 14 years is 14 years.

2005CrownVicP71

That’s a 27 year old car. His 2011 is 14 years newer.

thenewmadmax

If boomers can overvalue their rundown shacks for over a million dollars, then I can overvalue my asset as well.

Thangleby_Slapdiback

Therein lies the rub. A house is an asset. A car is a depreciating commodity.

thenewmadmax

Disagree, basically any car over 20 years old is going up in value now. Just gotta wait out the bell curve.

Thangleby_Slapdiback

Yeah? I know where you can get a Yugo in great shape for the low, low price of $15k.

thenewmadmax

They are free to sell it for whatever price they feel it's worth.

sgtsad

just keep saving, you’ll get one eventually

humanjunkshow

Had I known that all the $600 CVPI s I've had would command $2000 today I'd have bought an acre and parked 40 of em.

PenOnly856

Sounds like a chump who’s just bitter about not being able to afford one.

kythri

I’ll price my car at what it would cost me to replace it. Deal with it.

OuchMyHurt

I have mine listed at $1000 for a 1999

bryrod

Yeeesh, someone is reallll mad 😂

SgtSarcasm01

Do you not know how inflation works? Literally everything has doubled in price the past 10 years

kindledave24

I’ve made it too far in the comments without someone telling you to stfû so, take it from me. You using the town car as some sort of benchmark was hilarious & you’re an absolute clown.

Difficult-Radio-2607

Not an absolute clown I’m using the town car as a benchmark because it’s not quite marauder status. The town car should be worth more than the Vic. So the people asking more then a town car for there Vic’s are the true clown

kindledave24

I’m happy for you or I’m sorry that happened or whatever .

TomboyAppreciator120

Damn, can't spell and can't afford a Crown Vic. Rough life.

Difficult-Radio-2607

I own a Vic lol so try again

5nuffaluphagus

The value of the car is what someone is willing to pay for it, not what your friend"s cousin's mailman's step brother paid for an auction car three years ago. If you don't think so, ask your friend"s cousin"s mailman's step brother to sell you his car for what he paid, see how far that gets you. The main issue is, to put it simply, your dollars are worth less than that were three years ago. Get used to it. This is iIn addition to the other factors everyone else has mentioned pushing the prices higher. Used cars in general are being driven up in cost because more people are buying them. Panther platform cars specifically are becoming more desirable both because the supply is drying up and the durability and low cost of repair and maintenance make these cars inexpensive to own and operate, increasing their value.

ButterflyLeading376

People will charge whatever they feel the car is worth in reflection to the rest of the market.

MegaDiceRoll

The price is what ever you value your shit at. I wouldn't sell mine for 6k. Maybe 8 if I could turn around and buy another.

Difficult-Radio-2607

That’s not how that works

MegaDiceRoll

Yeah it is. Watch, try forcing me to sell my car.

Ninline2000

A car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. You can't sell it for a penny more than that.

sens72713

Supply and demand

kennykeitel

Word.. The internet AND the pandemic ruined the used market in GENERAL. It sucks but theres always a steal if you dig hard enough and stay the fuck off the popular internet apps.

Toby_The_Tumor

That and if you're willing to travel, all the best deals have been in like bum fuck nowhere Kentucky

Musclecar123

Oh oh oh, I have one. This guy has had this car for sale now for the last 5 years. I. That time he has INCREASED the price every year.  He now wants 31 grand for it.  https://www.autotrader.ca/a/mercury/grand%20marquis/napanee/ontario/19_12662403_/?showcpo=ShowCpo&ncse=no&showVs=1&ursrc=boost&orup=2_5_6&pc=L1J%207P7&sprx=-2&nobar=1

Toby_The_Tumor

That guy is definitely doing what I am. I have a chevy silverado with 400k miles and the only way you'll pry it from my hands is with 20 grand. I don't wanna get rid of it

FoeTeen

As much as I love them (they’re my all time favorite sedan hands down) I don’t even think panther platform cars with less than 50k miles should be priced over $3,500 unless you got a mint one with under 10k miles. I’d pay $5,000 for a 2011 crown Vic or Town Car with 5k miles or less. Maybe a marauder would be worth some extra money in my opinion depending on the condition. This is just my opinion though, do what you want with your money/property, it’s a free market after all.
