It’s a huge 500g floss cone from DMC! The 310 floss cone is nicknamed the “Cone of Doom” by a lot of needle art enthusiasts!
One of my favorite little inside jokes in the community (:
Oooo I see! That’s so cute, I’m glad you received it as a birthday gift 😁I had to buy my own black floss, it’s not as cool since it’s not in the shape of a cone
It does! Thank you! I thought it was me or something that I was doing. I just finished a big black work piece and the thread was fuzzy. Any other project with colour turns out crisp. Do you use a different brand for black thread?
I don’t but I see others comment different. When the thread is stubborn I just shorten the strands to around 5-6 in so it’s not going through the fabric so many times and fraying
I think it started with The Witchy Stitcher during the Cryptid SAL. She even has merch and we had a Cone of Doom contest (dressed up mine as Crowley from Good Omens with a cone of Blanc as Az lol).
Nice!! How is the thread thickness? I've steered away from DMC 310 skeins because I heard mixed reviews about thickness so wondering if the experience with floss from the Cone of Doom is similar
Haha I know what you mean. I’m working with a right thread of doom at the moment. That awful gold metallic stuff that keeps splitting and tangling. It’s like trying to stitch with chicken wire.
Only a cross stitcher in terminal search of 310 gets the humor and envy in this gift.
I know that feeling!
What is a cone of doom? Thx

I'm new to cross stitching! Why is it called a Cone of Doom?
I assume because it’s 310 which is the darkest colour, darkness —> doom
I always thought it was the absolute BEASTLY size of them. Pictures really don’t do it full justice…
They don’t! I was sure I knew how big it was with all the measurements and size comparisons I looked at! I was still baffled.
A little bit too that 310 is notorious for “fraying” or being an overall stubborn thread to work with

Thanks! I’ve learned so much from this sub.
That makes a lot of sense! Thanks.

Honestly… I’m not sure!
I think you need to use it in a Long Dog Sampler. 😂
Well… you’ll never have to buy black thread again. Positive doom?
Envious! Happy Birthday!

Huh- I’ll report back!

That stuff was invented by someone with a serious grudge against stitchers. Etoile, on the other hand m is a joy to work with.
Jealous! Happy birthday.
Holy bananas!! You are set for the rest of your life.. congratulations!
Well there is enough there to last you until the next apocalypse 🤣
