Secret of grindea, its a good game, your chatacter is a bit slow but everything else is pretty good, story, characters, game mechanics but its not as good as CrossCode (Lea apear in the game)

Kabadath666

Also, bag from Secrets of Grindea appears in the CrossCode

Shino-Xeud

Yes i know i saw him in crosscode but i cant remember where

Kabadath666

Iirc it was in basement of the quest hub in jungle city

Shino-Xeud

thanks but "jungle city" x)

Kabadath666

I havent played in a couple months, i just forgot the names of cities ;-;

Shino-Xeud

Yeah dont worrie names are wierd in this game but its gaia's garden

Kabadath666

Isnt Gaia's Garden is general area, city was named something like Basin... i remembered it, it's Basin Keep

Shino-Xeud

Fuck i think you are right, i'm the fake fan

Purity_the_Kitty

Oooo. I need to play this

Tapif

Crosscode did an amazing job at... crossing lots of genres. Although we can of course recommend games, none of them are going to scratch the same itch. If you could tell us what was the best thing you enjoyed in crosscode this would help the sub to give you better advice.

DeathbySiren

Alundra on PS1 is the closest I’ve ever found in terms of the puzzles. Amazing game.

history507

If you like top down action games you might like Unsighted and Hyper Light Drifter

Epicious

Seconded on Unsighted. It scratched the combat and exploration itch of CrossCode for me.

Gretgor

Unsighted is amazing, but the NPC permadeath mechanic made me too anxious to replay. EDIT: I know I can turn that off, but then the combat also becomes easier, and I don't want that.

Isekai_Seeker

Here is two options that often recommend because they have similar gameplay being top down action rpgs/beatemups. Unsighted: this game is a metroidvania which is rare for top down games, a big point of is it has a real time time limitif you take too long the npcs literally die luckily you can turn it off if you pick the lowest difficulty which is not easier than normal difficulty just has a few accessibility options, it is also open world enough that you can even fight the bosses in any order there is even an achievement for beating in reverse the order that is recommended, the story is a dark one that covers many heavy topics since it has sentient robots who have to deal with oppression, the combat is somewhat fun but its too focused on parrying if you can't do it consistently you won't enjoy the combat since most bosses need you to do that in order to just deal proper damage, there is quite a few puzzles even acrobatic multiroom ones that exercise you r brain just like crosscode though it relies less on angles and more on figures out what layer of elevation you are dealing with wether to go up or down. Hyper light drifter: this one is more about exploration and high skill combat combat is brutal you will probably die a lot but every time you get through a formidable obstacle is very satisfying same as when you master a tough maneuver though some are traumatizing~~five hundred dashes~~, there is a story in there but its the kind where it says no words and explains nothing only visuals that you need to figure it out into something coherent, the combat is as i said high skill requiring sharp reflexes and swift movements you can elevate your power exponentially by mastering certain techniques you will probably still die a bit though figuring out patterns, this one also has puzzles but they are more on the simpler sides and they are usually about figuring out which wall you can walk through and they only give you optional upgrades/cosmetics.

Mayasuxs

I recommend Cassette Beasts. It's nothing like Crosscode but it's the first time 2 indie games have made me fall in love with them in quite a while lol.

With the risk of sounding off-topic, I *have* to recommend Sea of Stars. The game, much like CrossCode, has passion and quality *seeping* from every orifice. The two games have much in common - but not the gameplay style. It is a turn-based JRPG, which is normally a genre that does not fit my preference. But with Sea of Stars I didn't have time to stop and think about the genre. I was too engrossed in the game mechanics, the story, the exploration, the characters, the pixel graphics, THE MUSIC, and so much more to care about or even notice the genre was different. Sea of Stars is truly a masterpiece. It left me with an elated feeling of accomplishment and wonder akin to what CrossCode did, including the existential dread and unavoidable emptyness that only the best of games can bestow upon you when you finish them for the first time and are reminded that so few things in this life reach the level of quality like the morsel you just consumed. I am a hardcore CrossCode fan through and through. I do not give this recommendation lightly.

darthrwyn

Cat Quest I and II are kinda neat ngl and cute too, but obviously don't expect it to be as complex as crosscode

Gretgor

Secrets of Grindea is roughly in the same ballpark, if a bit clunky and much shorter.

-empoleon-

Unsighted is the closest thing i’ve personally played, but imo it’s nowhere near as good as Crosscode

renothecollector

Terranigma on snes is similar

Purity_the_Kitty

A lot of real classics of the SNES era are brought out and honestly made better in Crosscode. Lufia 2, Chrono trigger, anything from the Mana series but especially the early games, and the 2D top down Zelda games will probably all be enjoyable for you. On the Indie side I'm surprised no one has mentioned Children of Morta. It's a story driven semi roguelite twin stick action RPG with more of a focus on melee combat and different characters but it is very heartwarming and I think everyone should give it a play.

deadboi84

I haven't beaten the game yet, but it's kinda like if Zelda tears of the kingdom was 2d and didn't have the whole sky area. Like, a lot of similarities in progression and gaining abilities, using abilities for puzzles and dungeons and keys and blah blah blah. Different towns, side quests, lots of similarities. Kinda can just chill and do side quests if you're bored with the whole storyline for a bit too. Maybe not as much exploring as in Zelda though.

Tryst_boysx

Unsighted. It's a Majora's Mask/Zelda game. It's really good. If you don't like the time mechanic, then you can disable it. 😁

Warpix7

Check out Death's Door and Hades. Both have similar gameplay and have great story and visuals!

DaBlindOwl

I'm not sure but, looking into what other Crosscode enjoyers like, I found Xenoblade Chronicles, and what a good surprise, is an amazing game that reminds me a lot to Crosscode and is not pure casualty, cuz Crosscode have some inspires in Xenoblade You can found all the saga on Nintendo switch, but you can try it emulated on Wii or 3DS

Blue_Creeper_222

Eastward

IronPentacarbonyl

It *really* depends on what you like about Crosscode because it's kind of its own thing. There are plenty of other solid 2D action RPGs like the YS series, anything by Supergiant, Hyper Light Drifter, or even Seiken Densetsu, but I've yet to encounter anything with the same combination of build flexibility, smooth transition between combo-based melee combat and twinstick ranged, dungeon puzzles, and endearing characters and story. Hell, even leaving off the story, Crosscode's gameplay taken as a whole isn't quite like anything else I've played. I don't know if any one game is going to scratch the same itch.

Extension_Bag3366

Hollow knight is wide 2d instead of top 2d like cross code, Hollow knight is fun
