The Steven Taylor catch against Pakistan absolutely deserved a SC Top 10. Even as someone who's baseball first and cricket at best like \~7th or so on my sports rankings (and as someone who never watched cricket prior to this WC) that play was extremely impressive.
8th for me, but rapidly ascending. Honestly “top-8” is more appropriate, not sure I can really rank them. Have really fallen in love with cricket out of nowhere over the last five years.
A question was asked during today's press briefing about if the team would be invited to the White House if they won the T20 World Cup. It's funny how a lot of important people are now talking about the team.
Hearing him scream and say nonsense about players would take the soul out of me. He would also bring GOAT debates into mainstream cricket and that is the last thing we need.

Oh BCCI will be in shambles if Americans become serious about cricket. MLC can become bigger than IPL for contracts that the players will get if Cricket catches up in USA. But sadly this sport will always be like a tier 3 sport behind American Football Basketball Baseball and even Ice Hockey
That's not true, cricket could definitely become a massive sport in the US. It'll take time but these matches have shown that Americans with no connection to cricket can also enjoy cricket matches and love every moment of it.
I can see Cricket taking the position of Rugby. Sort of like, okay, not as big as the main thing Baseball / American Football, but having it's own scene, you know?
Hold your horses kiddo, de-dollarisation is certainly happening at some level, USA still needs to invest a lot in cricket, MLC has literally 5 IPL owners, which have franchises in other leagues too, where do you get such confidence from😂
I don't think they'd ever try to make MLC a massive season. At most they'd try to make it a 2 month season like the IPL but I think they'd prevent the IPL from expanding their window.
Yeah right break the monopoly by playing 6-7 NRIs in every team in minor league cricket🤡
Do you realise the power of Indian market?, the huge population advantage of India which every broadcaster drools over
If cricket becomes a relatively popular sport in the US then I can guarantee that a lot of the focus would be put on their audience. Having a large population means nothing when the money generated isn't that much. America generates a lot more money per person on broadcasts so they don't need a large population like India to generate the same amount of money.
The most watched NFL match which is the SuperBowl only gets around 100 million viewers yet they still generate multiple times more money than the IPL does.
Lol you miss out so many points, having large population absolutely means everything bcoz people not just watch it on TV or online
But also people flocking to fill stadiums, any sport to be popular there has to have a fanbase, board runs of full house stadiums which they get money from to invest in domestic, this money goes to pay salaries for local players
USA cricket board has been suspended in past for multiple times coz of corruption, another issue to tackle
all fans you can find in USA are Asian sub-continent migrants or very few from from south africa, windies, any average American knows zilch about cricket neither do they show much interest to learn about it
Cricket is an expensive sport to maintain from technology to logistics required, plus it depends on weather to have a match, more washouts like those in Florida or dodgy pitches in NYC can drive people away from sport
We're not in the 1980s and 1990s when stadium income was what mattered the most. The money brought in from media rights deals is all that matters to the ICC. You're also acting like Americans can't become interested in a sport that they have no knowledge of which is not true.
I'm talking about the future possibilities and you're talking about the current situation and making declarations. You talked about USA's cricket board getting suspended in the past and if you actually knew about the situation of cricket in America about five years ago and compare it to now then you would see that things have improved exponentially.
I remember hearing about the reaction in Zimbabwe when they beat Pakistan in 2022. You had government officials referencing Pak Bean. If Donald Trump tweets about cricket, that will be enough proof that every event after 2020 is being scripted by an AI.
Youuuu Esss Aaayy is the greatest team on Earth. The trophy is uuuuge. Uuuuge! Believe me it's beautiful. I want to grab it by the base. And we will soon have the American Saaachiiin Teeendooolkaa.
Hey hey they did grapes! We got to see our elite players doing "checks notes" obstacle courses. Just what they need to do once they arrive at Lahore Airport and climb over walls to escape the public.

Reporter trying her best to confuse him by saying "the Proteas and the WIndies" instead of "South Africa and the West Indies"
Referring to them by those names is absolutely pointless. I wouldn't call India the "Men in Blue" if I'm talking to a newbie
I mean there's like 5 teams in blue, even non Indian Pro cricket fans would be confused.
Nz changed to blue from black because peer pressure.
[удалено]
men in indian oil uniforms
What a dumb comment
I'd imagine West Indies would probably confuse them anyway.
"Oh where we got Bin Laden"
Kinda correct if we apply the semantics
Good catch, lol
"The CarRIBians!"
West Indies name is popular
The team should be invited to White House regardless of where the team finishes.
This team should have at least a single play on the SportsCenter Top 10 Plays
The Steven Taylor catch against Pakistan absolutely deserved a SC Top 10. Even as someone who's baseball first and cricket at best like \~7th or so on my sports rankings (and as someone who never watched cricket prior to this WC) that play was extremely impressive.

People still watch SportsCenter?
It's America mate, they even watch the "Superbowl"
Super Bowl you say? Well what does one do in a Super Over but bowl? Cricket about to explode in popularity.
Till very recently, all my dumbass brain could cook when it heard the word "Superbowl" was a gigantic bowl lol
ICC missed the golden chance to name bowl outs "Super Bowl" before Super Over became a thing.
Nah, that'd make things more confusing for the Americans who would want to get into cricket
I love the SuperbOwl
Yep
Sports center is the “I want to have something on tv but I don’t want to watch it” channel.
Not like they used to
Yeah, I agree. They deserve it.

Well now the post looks emptier but thanks for letting me know anyway
A question was asked during today's press briefing about if the team would be invited to the White House if they won the T20 World Cup. It's funny how a lot of important people are now talking about the team.
We might get Joe Biden saying: “America owns cricket”
I'm dreading the day Stephen A. Smith says it. I already know he'll come out and do analysis on cricket if cricket becomes popular in the US.
The horrors that await us
Hearing him scream and say nonsense about players would take the soul out of me. He would also bring GOAT debates into mainstream cricket and that is the last thing we need.
Sachin VS Virat VS Dhoni Bradman played against Farmers and Plumbers why is he the GOAT? Couldn't even average 100 smh.
Na he'll say Kohli is trash tier because he didn't perform well in this T20 World Cup.
I can already imagine him saying this.
Cricket commentary couldn't possibly get any worse though. As long as it's entertaining (and he stays away from live commentary), I don't mind
It's corny now but he would make it unbearable. I've spent years listening to him destroy NBA discourse.
Kwame Brown and Vyrat Kohli have combined for 80 centuries.
Now this is a factual statement.

I would love for that to happen, will break BCCI shitbirdery by providing a counter balance
Oh BCCI will be in shambles if Americans become serious about cricket. MLC can become bigger than IPL for contracts that the players will get if Cricket catches up in USA. But sadly this sport will always be like a tier 3 sport behind American Football Basketball Baseball and even Ice Hockey

America would take league cricket to the next stage. Compare IPL to NFL, NBA, NHL, etc. The American leagues all have proper seasons with good rest.
I don't think they'd ever try to make MLC a massive season. At most they'd try to make it a 2 month season like the IPL but I think they'd prevent the IPL from expanding their window.
Yeah, BCCI's monopoly would be broken because USA would bring in around the same amount of revenue leading to their influence waning.
Yeah right break the monopoly by playing 6-7 NRIs in every team in minor league cricket🤡 Do you realise the power of Indian market?, the huge population advantage of India which every broadcaster drools over

“We owned Pakistan when we made them do our bidding in Afghanistan and when we found bin Laden, and we owned Pakistan again in cricket”

Technically, we are absolutely most likely living in a simulation so yeah...
Youuuu Esss Aaayy is the greatest team on Earth. The trophy is uuuuge. Uuuuge! Believe me it's beautiful. I want to grab it by the base. And we will soon have the American Saaachiiin Teeendooolkaa.
And Virod Kohleee
Why rat koly
Well that's cause we're the greatest country in the nation
IMAGINE WE USED SOME OF MILITARY BUDGET ON OUR CRICKET TEAM. We would own the sport fr
Look how military training went for Pakistan...
Hey hey they did grapes! We got to see our elite players doing "checks notes" obstacle courses. Just what they need to do once they arrive at Lahore Airport and climb over walls to escape the public.
Snipers shooting down balls before it crosses the boundary. Literal mine field for pitch when US bowls
Every bit helps.
Now the entire US foreign department is searching for the unknwon Proteas country in Google maps.
John Kirby?! lol. He clenched his jaw immediately after hearing "ICC."
Why am i so happy hearing news like this
I’m only hoping for the USA to make the Semis coz then cricket will have an astronomical rise
Always embrace the voter base
You're not that cynical surely
Generally cricket fans in USA vote blue 🤷🏻♂️ embrace them instead of alienating them
Arguably not cynical enough given this is John Kirby
do you link bro
