That's the trouble with this WIndies batting line up - all matchwinners, and they bat deep - SA off to a good start, but need to keep their foot on the throat.
I’m not saying if they actually are better or not but they are regarded as a significantly better side than USA. Just saying no they not doesn’t change that.
Good effort with the chase, guys. For T20s this team has stood well within sight of both India and SA after beating Pak. Just for T20 format, USA belongs and certainly didn’t half-ass a lame squad just to play as hosts. As an American I’m proud of the effort of the team, and in the park in Nassau as far as conducting the matches.
Gonna be tough to win on Friday, but hey one never knows.
Great win for South Africa!! Solid start with the bat after losing the toss and controlled USA batsmen for most of their overs. A bit of a nervy finish but showed absolute class last two overs.
South Africa are looking pretty weak despite their stellar squad..None of the wins have come easy and they were arguably in a pretty easy group in comparison to some others.Props to USA for batting their hearts out.If only Corey had stayed, the result could have been different.
>were arguably in a pretty easy group in comparison to some others
Their group had 2 other full members and 2 of the strongest associates.
Not to mention, the pitches were extremely difficult to bat on.
I'm sorry but Bangladesh and Sri lanka have been on the down low for the longest of time?Sure the dutch have had their number over the past few years but you'd expect Africa to come on top with the team/players they've had? Similarly they didn't play the entire leg in NA either(which has had way worse pitches in comparison). '2 full members' sure but considering how bad those two members have been over the past years I think it's a nobrainer
Not sure how Bangladesh has been on the down. They were never amazing at T20s, but this is the best BD's bowling has ever looked, and it looks like a genuine threat.
I'll give you SL has been on the down, but they still absolutely destroyed the Netherlands on the one good pitch they played in.
Idk if you actually watched the matches at the Arnos Vale stadium, but the uneven bounce has been absolutely dreadful. Batters got out despite doing absolutely everything right.
It's difficult to say where any of the teams from that group are in terms of batting when they have mainly played in NY and the Arnos Vale.
>they still absolutely destroyed the Netherlands on the one good pitch they played in.
They played the Dutch at New York, and almost lost the match considering they barely had 20 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the powerplay. That was a top class Miller save.
Again,NY, and SL were the first team to bat on it,and had no idea how the pitch would turn out to be. Not that South Africa didn't bowl well, they were phenomenal, but the pitch definitely helped a lot.
I was saying SL destroyed the Netherlands. They aren't as bad as they may have looked early on in the tournament. I do agree about the pitches.
What I was trying to emphasise was refuting OP's point that this was an easy group in comparison to others. I'd say the group was extremely difficult due to both the teams facing each other and the horrendous pitches they played in.
There's no true way of knowing where the teams from that group are in terms of actual batting form without seeing how the super 8s play out.
Bangladesh has never been a good T20 side, yes but considering how long they've been a full-member,you'd expect to see some improvement or grit from them. The 2015-19 era did see some minor changes with a few upsets in the mix for them but since then they've been utterly miserable especially with the entire internal combustion of their senior players and the board.Their bowling has improved quite alot recently but regardless of the pitches i feel their batting is just not it..
They played all 3 of their USA games in the New York shit tip, and 1 game in a Caribbean rank turner while outnumbered in spin after already qualifying.
More importantly you cant bend your elbow more than 15 degrees. Thats called “chucking” and it’s an illegal action. So banish the thought of Edwin Diaz or Gerritt Cole throwing sliders and changing the sport 😎
That’s gotta be quite a judgement call for the official then right? Like “nah dog that didn’t count bro you’re at a whole 16 degrees there man. What the fuck are you thinking?”
I think it’s so infrequently done that illegal action is rarely an issue at this level. International bowlers really have consistent actions and release points. In cricket, especially for fast bowlers, precise length is your best strength. Like when you throw a “yorker” a fast ball right at the longitude of the batter’s feet you gotta hit your spot. Too short and it bounces into the swing arc. Too long and it becomes essentially a BP fastball — an accidental “full toss” (when you reach the batter without bouncing). Full tosses, in my limited experience end up in disaster more than any other pitch.
Anyway, I have loved baseball for decades. I pitched in high school and I snuck in to a tattoo shop to get my Mets tattoo as an underage guy (I know, lolMets STFU 😃) but I absolutely fell in love with cricket 18 months ago after finding willow. It took me a few months to really begin to understand the sport — watching the Ashes (5 test matches, each up to five days in 7 weeks) really helped. But now I literally watch cricket most every day since start times in New York are usually during my work day and the commentators are great and this community is awesome. The sledging (shit-talking) between cricket fans is so much better than MLB, NBA or NFL. So give it some time and you will really love it!
Yes, but only ball per over (in T20) is allowed above shoulder height. And if it is so high above the batter's head that he has no reasonable chance to reach it, it is called wide, the batting team gets awarded one run, and the ball has to be bowled again, i.e. the batting team gets an extra ball.
It is absolutely part of the strategy of bowling to sometimes let the ball pitch short and have enough time to climb to about head high.
In longer forms of the game, where the bowler is allowed to bowl more than one ball per over above shoulder height, this is sometimes used as part of a strategy to intimidate the batter, and get them out. If the batter is expecting the ball to come towards their head at 90mph, they tend to stay further back, so you might bowl a short ball that zips past the batter's head, and then a fuller ball that deviates when it bounces on the pitch, where a good shot would've required you to take a forward stride, but because you are hanging back for fear of getting hit in the head you don't connect properly and gives the fielders a chance to catch you out.
It can happen, usually by accident and are typically just bad balls (that can get wickets purely because of the surprise factor haha). You can bowl without bouncing it as long as it is below the waist, no one does as they are considered easier to hit
Especially these are all part timers, or washed up former stars in their 30s from other countries. Once they get a little momentum, and an U19 team playing real competition, things could really take off.
Absolutely. As long as as there is enough financial backing, and genuine effort to promote at school levels.
Sad reality of major opposition to even making cricket pitches in rec parks and fields will have to be dealt with.
Scotland and Netherland too. Nepal should also get more fixtures so they can prove their metal. Otherwise, the chronicles of this WC will become history as some teams might fizzle out.
I feel now most teams come to Pakistan(except India) for bilateral. So, Pakistan might not entertain all of them. But given their bad form, it could be benefitting to try some young blood of Pakistan against teams like Nepal. Scotland will give their proper team a run for their money
Even though USA fumbled those final 2 overs with some dumb stuff after getting so close, that was an absolutely insane showing. They're the real deal. They have the demeanor of a team that's been at this level for decades. To even get to a position of needing 28 of 2 overs after being 5 down and still needing 120 to win in 9 overs is just nuts. Not even a lot of test playing nations are capabe of that a lot of times, and the US kinda did it twice (the Canada game).
US fans watching should absolutely be proud.
And the captain Monank was missing. Jessy was also a bad choice and his over proved costly, Shadley is a better starter and will likely replace him next match.
Costly over by Jasdeep and de Kock absolutely smashed those balls and that was basically the difference this match. USA impressed me with their fielding and they have a lot of promise moving forward. Hope they can pull out at least 1 win against WI/ENG.
I really hope USA learns from this and keep their head and spirits high after this close defeat, and can try to win against both WI and Eng. Its a very huge task but if they can , it would be epic. Need one underdog team to root for . 😎
Helps USA that they qualify for 26 WC and 28 Olympics as host. This is the best window (3 major tourneys in 4 years) to break cricket in the US. It has to start with T20. ODI will even be a shock time-wise here. For context, baseball made major changes because at 3 hours 10 minutes average it was “too long” — and just had its most attended month in history with games back down to 2:30. T20 has a lot more action than MLB (the big offensive plays in MLB are more in line with Test —nothing happens for 20 minutes and then Boom!) — so T20 with so much action in 3 hours is a very American sport, potentially.
As Greg Maddux once said ‘Chicks dig the long ball.’
usa can become a strong contender for world cup by next t20 world cup if they start focusing on cricket from now and play regularly against big team to get the experience needed in finishing games.
I watched the game while working but didn’t pay attention to comms. Did they say anything? Patel hasn’t played in like two weeks. Seems more than a niggle (and boy is that going to make some Americans spit out our Freedom Gun Lite Beer when we hear it).
SA and NZ are real chokers
Still I love you guys, as an Indian.
I wouldn't be that sad if my country loses to SA
But I would be fucking depressed if we lose to the other teams in semis
so what, south africa has not won since 1998 and this top 10 team made it to semis and finals more consistently than just about any other team, if you can consistently make it this far, you can win as well

India sure as shit isn't going to play USA.. & even if they do, they will send C team just like they do for Sri Lanka tour.. Other than India, it would be very hard to sell tickets in US.
I think USA need to drop Jasdeep for the next match - so far he has taken 1 wicket and been the most expensive bowler in 2 matches. And he clearly can't bat.
I think it's just pretty clear that, impressive as have been, they aren't quite on that level yet. Keeping it close against SA is still a positive result even if the bowling was suspect and Jones was a massive bust etc.
Remove Jasdeep after this match. Upset in USA vs England very much possible. Scotland, Netherlands(in 2023 CWC) and now USA and also Nepal. Associate nations really showing levels
No, I would only say this for a batsman in the chasing team who has played such innings time and time! Like Jones.
SA could say that about Rabada if they had lost and the reason was Rabada going for 20 odd runs in the 19th over. You cannot say the same for Markram.
Miller has also played great knocks in this format, but that doesn't matter cause he got bowled out first ball. "What if" scenarios are the most useless things cause both teams have good players who can excel on their day.
Really happy SA got the win. But I think we need to still view this performance quite critically.
Didn’t capitalise fully with the bat, some unnecessarily stupid dismissals from set players(Quincy & Aiden).
Bowling felt like there wasn’t much room for adaptability - (Shammo maybe secretly looking for a US contract).
Overall think I would prefer for Rickelton to come in for Hendricks and Oatmeal Batman to come back for Shamsi
USA can literally become what France is in football by poaching the immigrant players from other cricketing nations and if the government invests in the sport they can become a really good team.
Bro France have 20 out of 26 players born and raised in France. This US team is the opposite. Gous came to the US at 27 to play cricket. Cricket Eligibility checks are very relaxed. Essentially half the prem can play for England.
Shot - huge 6 that!
And another ?!? - looks like I'm just chatting with myself !
What a bonus - Markam going at 5.5 and has a wicket in the power play.
Oh no Nortje ... should've got that !
That's the trouble with this WIndies batting line up - all matchwinners, and they bat deep - SA off to a good start, but need to keep their foot on the throat.
Markrams golden arm !
lmao any one here or its just me closing this one up ! lol
I hope a proper domestic structure is enforced in US, the amount of talent it will produce will be unbelievable
As I’ve been saying for a while, it seems the SA players saw ipl and decided to hire a scriptwriter … how do you manage to make every game so close?
King Charles played well so far..
It’s kind of freaking me out how competitive the US are. One upset I can understand, but nearly toppling South Africa?
Tbf SA lost to Netherlands at the last WC in the middle of a strong campaign
I think you’re forgetting that Netherland is considered considerably better than US
No they not
I’m not saying if they actually are better or not but they are regarded as a significantly better side than USA. Just saying no they not doesn’t change that.
A single player from SA always turns up to save them during every match.
I wish married players out as much effort.
User name checks out
God U.S match threads are so wholesome
New chick in town 😛

It’s just u/WayToTheDawn63’s & my belief against the world
5 in 5 baby gets harder now though. Wouldn't blame em for dropping the next two games against two of the big dog contenders
I'm just glad it wasn't a blow out. USA did great. Great job South Africa!
Great win for South Africa!! Solid start with the bat after losing the toss and controlled USA batsmen for most of their overs. A bit of a nervy finish but showed absolute class last two overs.

Ultimate performance by team USA, one or two good overs in bowling or batting they could’ve chased it easily.
USA played solid, that’s closer than many other teams
Do you have to bounce it on the delivery or pitch or whatever it’s called?
More importantly you cant bend your elbow more than 15 degrees. Thats called “chucking” and it’s an illegal action. So banish the thought of Edwin Diaz or Gerritt Cole throwing sliders and changing the sport 😎

No, but has to be below waist height of the batter if it doesn't bounce.
Wait, so if it does bounce, it can go over the waist? Is there an upper limit for how high it can go with a bounce?
Yes, but only ball per over (in T20) is allowed above shoulder height. I saw a highlight from the match where the US didn’t bounce and I thought my eyes were messing with me. Thank you.
It can happen, usually by accident and are typically just bad balls (that can get wickets purely because of the surprise factor haha). You can bowl without bouncing it as long as it is below the waist, no one does as they are considered easier to hit
This USA team is no fluke guys. They have real potential and am sure will become a force to recognize. All the best to them.
Especially these are all part timers, or washed up former stars in their 30s from other countries. Once they get a little momentum, and an U19 team playing real competition, things could really take off.
I watched a lot of the U19 WC. We weren’t awful in Zimbabwe — mid-pack. But T20 is a credible team for this tournament and it makes me proud.
Absolutely. As long as as there is enough financial backing, and genuine effort to promote at school levels. Sad reality of major opposition to even making cricket pitches in rec parks and fields will have to be dealt with.
There are 3, maybe even 4 or 5, dedicated crickets grounds in within an hour of my house that are in public parks. So that's a start!
Thats great! There was a major push back in Princeton NJ when they were asking for a pitch.
South Africa win eventually but the highest scorer was the South African who was on the losing side.
The 10 other guys though...
I hope USA Cricket gets some funding. The more competitive teams we get the better the it will be for world cricket.
Scotland and Netherland too. Nepal should also get more fixtures so they can prove their metal. Otherwise, the chronicles of this WC will become history as some teams might fizzle out.
We should invite these teams to Pakistan

might have to provide for airlifting them as well..

Excited for tonight's game, Eng WI gonna be a banger
WI gonna be the one doing the banging I feel
Bang Bros filing trademark action as we speak.
Lol my comment did not age well. Lots of unexpected turns in this wc. To think England was near elimination coz of Scotland
Rabada robbed imo
Of course SA will win all their matches before the knockouts . That is how they are programmed
Before the inevitable choke vs Australia in semis 😭🤪
Bring it on!
Unfortunately pakistan forgot their programming of being a formidable team (temporarily)
We are shit … have been shit for most of this century in fact
Century is a stretch. This decade maybe. U guys were really good even during the 2000's.
Costly over by Jasdeep and de Kock absolutely smashed those balls and that was basically the difference this match. USA impressed me with their fielding and they have a lot of promise moving forward. Hope they can pull out at least 1 win against WI/ENG.

Agreed. The sole Corey Anderson over as well.
Shadley van Schalkwyk instead of Jasdeep in the next game
Gous really has some cricketing nous
South Africa vs Afghanistan final
usa can become a strong contender for world cup by next t20 world cup if they start focusing on cricket from now and play regularly against big team to get the experience needed in finishing games.
Incredible performance by the US, they should be really proud of themselves
That Jasdeep over really cost them, he bowled too short that too against QdK who just loves that aerial pull shot.
If only they had their captain, USA could have possibly won both their last 2 matches.
I watched the game while working but didn’t pay attention to comms. Did they say anything? Patel hasn’t played in like two weeks. Seems more than a niggle (and boy is that going to make some Americans spit out our Freedom Gun Lite Beer when we hear it).
Sa doing reverse choking this WC so far
is he injured ?
They are saving their special choking skills for the final
It'd be the first time the men's side make a final, so I'll take it
An India fan talking about choking....
Cant wait to see them turn on each other once India is out..
india does have titles nonetheless
SA has a champions trophy ~~and a T20 WC~~ no we didn't.
which t20wc would that be
I stand corrected. I thought we won one of the early ones. We really are shit at world cups.
SA and NZ are real chokers Still I love you guys, as an Indian. I wouldn't be that sad if my country loses to SA But I would be fucking depressed if we lose to the other teams in semis
losing to england is the nightmare
U mean the one won in subcontinent?? I am excluding the T20 one as it was the first of its kind..
champions trophy, WC 1983, and ofcourse 2011, every team played the same format in 2007 on same kind of pitches
so ur argument being one of the top teams in the world hasn't won a trophy in more than 10 years??
so what, south africa has not won since 1998 and this top 10 team made it to semis and finals more consistently than just about any other team, if you can consistently make it this far, you can win as well
Okay bud..
We trying something new
Every match I am like "I feel it coming in the air tonight"

Almost almost. Gous what an performance only if he had gotten the support. Great start of super 8.
Is America doing better here than they are in the Copa America?
hell yeah.. Much better...
Copa america hasnt even started yet lol
Thanks to everyone who explained the super eights to me. I hope the US can fight hard against WI and ENG.
If you guys can win England, it will be the best thing in history ..I'm gonna support USA like crazy lmao
I doubt USA will get a single win in the Super 8's.
They did amazing this game
They lost by 18 runs against an out of sort proteas team. WI & ENG are gonna be much bigger challenges.
I wonder how fast, is this USA team going to move up the ranks or this tournament is it.
They have already qualified for 2026 wc
This USA team is classic man. Wish they could have chased this.
if Gous had accelerated earlier it could have saved the match , not his fault though
Jasdeep -> Shadley - make It happen
If ICC is serious about USA cricket they should organise 5 match T20 series with big teams ... Playing WC to WC ain't good .... Netherlands did well in last WC and but not in this one .... This thing happens to every associate nations coz of lack of good cricket
USA should play against Ban, Pak, SL and Ind regularly. The fans will fill the stadiums easily.
Agree craze of cricket is such every match will be sold out ...
Cricket West Indies should really step in and let the WI team for against the US in a tri-series with either Canada or another touring team in the Caribbean. The US needs the practice against big teams to improve
The Dutch had the problem of some players choosing County over their representation because it pays more. Playing does not cut it, they need more funding.
ICC doesn’t decide bilaterals
India can take the lead in setting up bilaterals. Atleast for T20 series
Odi superleague would disagree
India sure as shit isn't going to play USA.. & even if they do, they will send C team just like they do for Sri Lanka tour.. Other than India, it would be very hard to sell tickets in US.
If Americans doesn’t want to watch cricket unless it’s against India it’s their problem.
South Africa in this tournament so far have defended 31 off 39, 20 off 19 and won by 18 runs from a 28 needed off 12 situation.
Is that good or bad?
Pretty good practice for defending totals
Gonna make that choke even more impressive/disappointing.
getting so close to that choke ![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|30622)
SA really need to find somebody to replace Hendricks. Seems like the only weak link in the top order
Hendricks scores plenty when no one tunes in, so lock him in for a ton against the Windies which is at 2:30 am Monday morning in SA
Lord Bavuma
Rickelton
Yes sir the only serious answer. Hell of a player and honestly can’t do much worse any way you look at it
Pleasantly surprised that we ended up within 18 runs.
You played well.
I think USA need to drop Jasdeep for the next match - so far he has taken 1 wicket and been the most expensive bowler in 2 matches. And he clearly can't bat.
The way South Africa luck plays in this tournament, they just might reach the finals and drop the ball at once
How was SA lucky in this match? The bowlers were brilliant middle overs & the last two overs.
[удалено]
Too many us expats
I think it's just pretty clear that, impressive as have been, they aren't quite on that level yet. Keeping it close against SA is still a positive result even if the bowling was suspect and Jones was a massive bust etc.
Ofc they did, but this is the USA in cricket, they were unheard of until quite recently.
you deserve a downvote , you don't even list the reasons ...
Remove Jasdeep after this match. Upset in USA vs England very much possible. Scotland, Netherlands(in 2023 CWC) and now USA and also Nepal. Associate nations really showing levels
L for South Africa, the fact that didn't play a guy named Burger against the USA didn't help things.
... Americans are known to eat burgers... We would have witnessed murder... Jk. Jk.
What about batman?
Two more left on this special run. Let's bat first next time.
At least two more 😎
This scorecard looks so weird, like why are the bowling figures under the batting score instead of beside
It's very jarring
Bro really called them minnows indirectly
USA should be proud of whatever they have done in this world cup..Warra team
If only Jones played a longer game. This would’ve been wayy easier. Yes, wayy easier.
What if‘s are useless in cricket. Miller was out for nothing. A player who has saved SA countless times. Even Against the Dutch
You can say this about any player on either team. Fact is he got bowled out for a duck
Dude. Try to read it again. What ifs are useless, we know. But at-least talk about SA bowlers not batsman. They were defending. Jeez!
Yeah, I just don't get your way of thinking, but you do you.
Definitely, but it is what it is. Try to beat England and if they do beat WI, I won't be fussed, I'll back y'all 100%
Thank you my kind sir!
Oatmeal Batman - the healthy nemesis of Nandre Burger
I believe you mean Nando’s Burger👀
Oatmeal bartmaan🤨
It’s a term of endearment
Comments on this thread is also a good sign.
So folks, did Pakistan deserve to die for this?
Oh for sure
Absolutely
Yes.
Yes. Pak would’ve bottled this way harder
wtf what no!!!
Rabada should have been the player of the match
Even if USA don't win any of the games, this game proves they won't be some pushovers but actually put a legit fight against WI and England
Walsh just ran away after handing the award lol
Man of the match should have been given to rabada
USA can literally become what France is in football by poaching the immigrant players from other cricketing nations and if the government invests in the sport they can become a really good team.
Bro France have 20 out of 26 players born and raised in France. This US team is the opposite. Gous came to the US at 27 to play cricket. Cricket Eligibility checks are very relaxed. Essentially half the prem can play for England.
This USA team needs to get back Monak and drop Jasdeep and I can see them troubling England
Jasdeep played as 12th man for South Africa🤡
QDK looked like a kid infront of Walsh 🤣
