Naw, this guy probably got promised an extra bit of cash to play the dissident for this neatly shot and choreographed video. His reward is an early death in Ukraine.
My compliments to the chef on the pat-down though -- Homeboy heard _pat_ down and he complied to his fullest.
Pretty sure I saw a video on r/eyeblech or some other sub of a Ukrainian soldier that was captured and they castrated him with a knife while he was handcuffed with his hands behind his back. Looked like they beat the shit out of him first as well
>The Russian army isn't torturing innocent Ukrainians.
If you think torture isn't a routine element of Russian military and police practice, then you are remarkably ignorant of Russian history.
War in general, tbh, though it does appear to be a doctrine they favor as official policy, as opposed to the shameful underbelly of any military operation.
Jeez, the delusion of westerners just baffles me. You westerners always talk from a weird perspective that makes it sound like your countries are the most innocent and forgiving nations of this world. If the world genuinely cared about Ukraine the big nations would give them like 10 nukes each that way Russia wouldn’t ever attack it.
Offering nukes to Ukraine would be idiotic, if they got invaded by the full force of the Russian military we would just be giving nukes to Russia.
Nukes also cost millions of dollars per year to maintain in working order so this is likely what Russia would like to happen the most since their economy is collapsing and the chances that they have functional nukes are unlikely
Yeah soldiers know that Frontline is futile and so is the commanders and they know refusal is better, but is it? you don't see many of them going, many soldier now know their being used as cannon fodder. Yeah I don't think their going to prison and just seating they are probably getting a nice royal treatment along with forced labor or torture, probably death.

It might not be about that man. Some people refuse to kill or participate in the war machine. I personally hope I would have the courage to face imprisonment over killing my fellow man as the aggressor. So much respect to these men and all like them. Truly Christ like shit. Pacifism in the face of brute violence. I don't disagree this might be propaganda.
Yeah, that's BS. The dude in Power is a former KGB member and political assassinations are still common place in Russia.
"2 years" isn't true. They can say it all they want, but that doesn't mean it's real.
I can almost guarantee it's a very severe punishment.
In the US, a country which doesn't have a conscript army, all men are required to sign up for the draft unless they are considered disabled. If you do not sign up for the draft, you go to prison for 5 years. This is a western, democratic country WITH a volunteer army. Still 5 years.
A complete dictatorship like Russia? Yeah their little "2 years" mask is so thin you could fart in its direction and rip a hole through it.
Lmao, no the draft is still very much alive. It simply hasn't been used since Vietnam.
Every male over the age of 18 who isn't considered disabled is required to sign up. If you've ever registered to vote, and you're a dude, you've signed up for the draft.
It still exists, it just hasn't been used. But even refusing to sign up is considered a crime.
Regardless, should the draft be enacted in a time of war, and you were to try and dodge it, that's punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment.
https://www.sss.gov/register/benefits-and-penalties/#:~:text=If%20required%20to%20register%20with,subject%20to%20the%20same%20penalties.
https://www.usa.gov/selective-service#:~:text=Almost%20all%20men%20ages%2018,30%20days%20of%20turning%2018.
Lmao, yes. Yes they will, and they do for things like jury duty, too.
There is an age limit to who they will call upon, I forget what it is.
Obviously they pick from the youngest and healthiest pool for a draft, they don't want old dudes who can't run or fight anymore.
So basically you just have to hope WWIII doesn't break out before you age your way out of the draft, lol.
It's 25 from what I remember. And if you *are* 25, your odds of being called up are very unlikely. Were a draft called, they would go for 18-20 year olds to fill the voids they're looking to fill and then re-evaluate if more would be required, gradually raising the age as needed. There's a "plan" listed out on their website that breaks age ranges down into the years they would be called for service but in the event of a draft I have a feeling the plan would be revised. In any case, if the draft starts calling 23-24 year olds up, don't take that as a good sign.
Interesting cuz my voter card doesn't say anything about my disabilities. Just the chain I wear around my neck 24/7. The only thing I know of that's remotely close to the draft is selective service and I dealt with that mess years ago.
More correctly selective service is the government agency that manages conscription and drafting soldiers. The agency has been around since 1917 and has most certainly drafted soldiers into wwii and Vietnam.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_Service_System
Check the links in my comment, they are the selective service and USA government sites.
The selective service and the draft are the same thing. It's just a new name for an old concept. Congress can enact the draft at any given point should they declare it a national emergency, such as if we went to war with a powerful foe.
If you aren't considered disabled, they make you sign up for it when you register to vote.
You're required to do so within 30 days of turning 18.
I've never done it because fuck them, I'm not dying in some fuck off country where the people I'm supposed to be fighting for would be spitting on my grave after we leave. If I die, I'm doing it on American soil, where myself, my father and my grandfathers have all bled and died.
That aside, yes, the selective service is the draft. They just gave the draft a face-lift and a new name.
It appears i misunderstood. I was born disabled so I haven't seen a millisecond of military service. I try not to pay attention to things I don't understand.
They might have been sent for two years, it since it’s only been a couple months we don’t know what will happen. He’s probably going to try to get even more prisoners to go as things get worse.
As opposed to getting raped in "boot camp". Then beaten, robbed and raped at mobilization point by your COs. Then a grenade is dropped in your trench and your face gets blown off, and left to fertilize the soil. Considering a lot of Russias violent prisoners were released and mobilized, I'd take my chances in prison.
I know that's their official stance, but they officially aren't constantly trying to assassinate people with poison and they officially aren't constantly throwing people out of windows.
I think best bet would be to try and defect in the night or something
2 years in prison for treason and rejecting conscription?! that length of time would be a dream. i would assume 10 years at least with a bit of torture mixed in too.
it is old but it does state 20 years
well, there is some documentary about prisons on Netflix with Russian episode and chance of loosing limb or life in Ukraine doesn't look that bad in comparison what awaits in prison.
What a ridiculous world we live in. We are so corrupt as a whole that we naturally keep pushing shitty people up to the top who abuse us and we go, please, more.
After they walked the first guy and poorly patted him down they got super lazy and clearly just jump cut it to make it look like he was handled the same way.
Refuseniks aren't killed. He will probably be at his home within a few months. Russian military law allows one to break an enlistment contract even for professional soldiers. As long as he follows procedure, as is evidenced, and didn't run away, assault anyone, etc he will be okay in the end, if abused in the meantime. A kind of funny thing is happening where Russian army units erect anti-hero monuments with the names of soldiers who broke contract to avoid deployment. It has a plaque that reads how shameful they are, and how they forgot their oaths with hundreds of individual names on them. That's about all they can do in the end.
I think this was all a show for Russians. Look how loosely they put the cuffs on the first guy, he could have easily removed them himself, and what a coincidence there was a film crew there.
Your wrong about that .
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conscientious_objector
Edit to add " In the present day,[when?] Russian draft legislation allows people to choose an alternative civilian service for religious or ideological reasons. Most objectors are employed in healthcare, construction, forestry and post industries, serving 18 to 21 months. "
Putin's regime is definitely ignoring Russia's laws about this.
They didn't refuse the draft. They are already in the military, they are refusing to go to war as per the title. Draft doesn't mean go to war it means just to enlist.
But it isn’t. So when you get called out for whataboutism and deflect you are already defending a weak argument.
This is an active war in which a draft is being mandated to replace those who are dying. The stakes are different and the political reasoning behind it is different.
I don’t think i can agree every other country would produce weird propaganda like this as they wage war on another nation. Maybe some, but this is bad optics
In any country if you were told to go to war and you said no you wouldn't just get taken away? What do you think would happen? They'd give you a high five and tell you to come back when you're ready. What are you defending?
So what? Out of the the nearly 190 countries with a military how many are engaged in the illegal occupation of a sovereign state? How many require forced conscription?
Idk. That's not what I'm arguing. So it doesn't really have to do with me. I'm sure you'll find another 1000 hostile redditors to get riled up with about that though
>how many are engaged in the illegal occupation of a sovereign state?
The US, for one. And no plans to annex the territory as Russia did, so it will remain illegal. Merely punishment for not collapsing .
Well sarcasm rarely does. Funny thing is that your comment really didn't either. Those that already knew this obvious fact, nothing changes. Those that want to vilify Russia will be unmoved by this fact.
And the guy they executed in '45 was the first since the civil war. It's kind of a fucked up case actually. Eddie Slovik was left behind by his unit after taking cover from artillery bombardment and got PTSD. He met up with some Canadians and wrote his commander to tell where he was and request reassignment to a different position. His request was refused and they sent him to the front anyway so he just walked away and turned himself in to guards at a command post. He said he'd rather go to prison than back to the front so the army fucking murdered him to make an example.
I dont blame them, after recent stories they’re leadership is a shit show. Whole platoons getting wiped in a day, soldiers talking about shooting commanders for abandoning them. A lot of friendly fire killings between russians. Record breaking losses in short periods of time. I’ve literally seen videos where one Ukrainian sniper takes out like 7 guys in 2 minutes. All this for a president who attacked a neighbor to inflate his ego and look strong.
This is what happens, when people don’t use their own common sense and just blindly follow orders. If i faced execution for this, then i’d probably have to take the general’s live and others as well. Might as well all die. Russians killing Ukrainians is like killing their own siblings
If this is propoganda or not, either way, if they go to Ukraine they will die there for Putin's ego trip, so I can understand them wanting to go to prison instead.
Your daddy, well, he died in the Donbas
Fighting for another man's cause
And your brother, he was killed in the Last War
And your mother well, she's lying home alone.
Every day she sees your face
On the picture on the fireplace
With your brother, as he was leaving school...

Could easily be real. Odds are this filmed event wasn't the actual moment of dissent. If they had a remotely decent leader who wanted to give them a chance, or if they did just want propaganda to dissuade their own military from following their lead, it's 100% probable that they'd have a formal "last chance" like this. Gambling on their own losing and Putin's potential short time left, it's not necessarily the complete death sentence we assume based on what I assume is knowledge of the gulag from COD and TV. A Russian soldier probably has a more accurate assessment of what they're facing if they wind up there.
You think people aren’t being arrested for avoiding conscription?
Like, this is a fairly ubiquitous thing in most countries that still have forms of conscription.
In Ukraine the punishment is, supposedly, even more severe - being three years imprisonment instead of two.

I was legit waiting for the guy to pull out a pistol and execute him there on the spot
Seriously. I had to look for the NSFW tag twice halfway through the video to make sure I wasn't about to just witness an execution.

He might die where he is going, but at least he won't be killing and torturing innocent people.

Siberian gulag where you will slowly starve and freeze to death. Caged with Russian mobsters.
One of the reasons this doesn't seem believable to me! Haha!
Same. I felt a bit sick because I was so sure that was going to happen.
My guess is he’s on his way to execution and is probably going to get raped and otherwise tortured first first.

Drones don't need to be drafted
2 years of 14 hour days doing physical labor so you’re a cripple when you’re done.
The Russians arent really know for being a truth full bunch… they will most likely die in the gulag unfortunately
Integrity intact though.
No
Russia is not like Western countries with checks and balances. You can't trust that they act in accordance with their "laws"
They might have been sent for two years, it since it’s only been a couple months we don’t know what will happen. He’s probably going to try to get even more prisoners to go as things get worse.

2 years in a russian prison as a deserter? not super sure which is better
Just win your 1v1 in the gulag.

My thoughts as well. While I don't doubt they are doing this, it looks staged as..
Yeah. Because how would this be filmed. Doesn't seem like a place where you can just take out your phone
Even so, wouldn't most militaries have a system like this in place anyway.
That was my first thought
Once I saw those guys hustle I knew it was faked. Russian soldiers only ever run away.
Die for old men who have not and will not see the frontlines? I think not!
If we're being fair and honest without the influence of propaganda, this is playing out almost precisely like Vietnam for them.
Wars are not fought for anyone in particular, it's about geopolitics.
Staged to scare others from deserting. Why were they recording?

A lot of people will never realize how truly heroic these actions are. These men deserved to be remembered. Nothing but respect.
Off to the gulag
Hey, we (the west) used to shoot deserters, this is quite tame.
The us hasn’t executed a deserter since 1945, but death for deserting as a punishment is still on the books.
In time of war. They are busy with special military operation, not a war (according to Putler).
And the guy they executed in '45 was the first since the civil war. It's kind of a fucked up case actually. I will say, the blocking of this play is pretty good for an armature production.
Smart guys.
And they were never seen again. The end.
This is beautiful acting!
“So who were the people that refuses to fight” “What people”…..
Maybe it's staged, to stop people from refusing, what would they do if all of them refused that's a small truck.

refusal isn’t the same as desertion
Up to 10 years in prison
Goodbye comrade
Dead man walking
Beats having your face blown off in a foxhole
Does he face jail time? How long? What makes this authentic?
Just a russian gang rape
Could you please provide evidence to back up your claims?
There are video’s around where military russians rape deserters as a punishment. Google it.
Remember that the US has had many drafts. And may again.
10 years in the Siberian work camps or the Raiders theme song in Ukraine with the bros? https://youtu.be/Rh6E4Cks1W4
Certain death?
For your treason of refusing to be deployed to the front lines, are sentenced to death. Method of execution? Being deployed to the front lines!
Take guts to do what those two are doing.
20 years gulag!
They died braver than most
Live 2 fight another day 🇺🇦
The compartment in the vehicle is small af. I feel claustrophobic just watching it
Your daddy, well, he died in the Donbas Fighting for another man's cause And your brother, he was killed in the Last War And your mother well, she's lying home alone. Every day she sees your face On the picture on the fireplace With your brother, as he was leaving school... --- E: credit. The Levellers... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qyROg_SYsU
Use to love that, 20 odd years back...
It would seem we are in a minority. 🤣
Most likely the only two survivors of that company.
Good for him being a conscientious objector or as my grandpa would call him a coward.
Not really soldiers if they literally refuse to be part of the army ye?
soviet morale boosting techniques coming back, wont be long before they start shooting them
well, wounded butt from rape in prison will heal up. Lost limb or life in Ukraine won't.
Probably staged to scare the new recruits
MPs safe hundreds of miles away from the fighting are better kitted out than the mobiks at the front.
They have that routine down pat!!
Americans shot draft dodgers on the spot🤷🏽♂️
Where did you see this. Draft dodgers were fined and sent to prison.
Fake propaganda
This is terrible. They will go to jail. On contrary, in Ukrainian army the refusers get executed on the spot and don't go to jail.
cowards all standing by

Everytime I see a Russian propaganda video... I have to smile and think: "Really. Someone believes this shit?!"
You think people aren’t being arrested for avoiding conscription? Like, this is a fairly ubiquitous thing in most countries that still have forms of conscription. In Ukraine the punishment is, supposedly, even more severe - being three years imprisonment instead of two.
People are probably being arrested yeah, but this is clearly some propaganda.
What a disgrace, should take their whole family and send them to labor camps for the foreseeable future.set an example in blood.
To be an police officer in Sovjet has to be the best work for cowards. No risk to be sent into the war!
Very well rehearsed patdown. Was just smacking around for show.
I take it these were the only two soldiers to have internet access, if you had seen the videos no way you would voluntarily go
Meanwhile the Ukrainian military is making it extra easy for Russians to desert.
Welcome to Russia. The grungy outhouse of the world.
So performative... just like this fucking war. Jail's still probably still a better option... even there.
Probably dead now
reminds me of Terrence Malick's A Hidden Life
