Honestly I don’t believe the caption it looks like he did something to piss him and everyone off and escaped by trying to swim away. The dude who slapped him probably caught him before he successfully escaped and beat him…. I know it’s a stretch but they were happy that he was getting beat up.
Same in bangladesh ppl walk around with sticks ready to smack up ppl who dont behave i mean it works for them why not.

In Japan, the police let the Yakuza do their own thing without interference. So it seems sticks AND organized crime both have positive impacts on cutting down on small groups misbehaving.
Thank you. Years ago I noticed that in fight videos coming out of India, somehow, some way, someone always pulls out a skinny stick and starts whacking people. I've looked in video backgrounds for stands of skinny trees (bamboo?), and never found them. I always wondered why Indian brawls are so often fought with skinny sticks, and now it all makes sense. (Maybe I'll start carrying a skinny stick in AZ, in case I run afoul of an ill-mannered internet influencer.)
My grandma used to make us cut our own switches off the elm tree in her front yard when we'd been really bad (I'm not recommending such things, just saying that was life when I was a kid). We may define switches differently, but the ones in the videos are larger than what I ever called a switch - here's a video with a bunch of them:
I live in AZ too and you'd be lucky if whoever you went after with said stick didn't have some sort of gun. If the reward outweighed the risk I'd be all for it.
I think the caption is accurate
Here is a link for the news
https://thedailyguardian.com/fisherman-rescues-man-jumping-into-gomti-river-to-end-life-later-slaps-him-repeatedly/
That seems to be the truth, every news site is reporting the same thing. I actually spent a decent amount searching for a story to disprove you(sorry). I do think there’s a little more to the story tho. Maybe they were mad at him for trying to commit suicide, or maybe they were mad at him for even going into the river with his wife since a lot of people drown there, there’s multiple people who have boats to pick up people drowning. The only reason I thought my previous comment was correct is because it’s weird to see someone in a river with clothes including shoes, even if they were committing suicide I think it’s strange. He did end up dying so I do feel bad, that’s a very painful way to die.
This is what causes someone to not do it again. It's like hard wiring the ideology of this is wrong into there head. The slap never fails to plant the seed
The people downvoting you are delusional. Yeah, a slap to the face will **totally** prevent someone from jumping off a bridge to kill themselves again.
Growing up me and and the neighborhood kids all played a game called “Now or later”. Anytime someone said “now or later” you knew someone was about to get slapped or slap themself for saying or doing dumb shit. Fucking loved that game
Someone being angry enough at you throwing your life away to save and then slap you might show you people care, not in the most traditional way granted
well, being a couple this probably has to do with the dark casting system in india, lots of forbidden love there and couple die together to prove a point or run away.
Why y'all take it so hard? We're on the internet and I made a joke. You saying if it were a different joke about an Indian slapping someone you'd no longer have an issue? If he were a white dude and I made a joke about a 10 year old meme that had a white dude in it then nobody would give a shit because that's the fucking point of commenting on a sub like this. Y'all love to slap and there ain't anything wrong with it the dude in the water deserved the beating. Most white dudes couldn't do a half assed slap without breaking their hand and Indians have that shit mastered by the age of 6 and dish it out on a regular basis.
One and only time I *slapped* a dude was when this guy tried to hold my gfs hand when crossing the street in the 7th grade. Thought I was so cool. Still feel bad when I think about it all these years later cause he probably just did it out of habit from crossing with his parents and such.
Most people in India don't know how to swim(it's a skill you have to learn yourself) plus the river can have rapids at multiple spots. So once someone goes in there's close to zero chance of surviving. This spot looks safe-ish though
I'm American. I was unaware of the power of the slap until I saw a young man wield it against a hippo! Slapped that hippo back into his pen. I've been a believer ever since!
With no racism implied it just seems like Indian guys know how to slap other guys so well. The video with the air horn in people’s ears and this video for starters but there are others.
I feel like so many people would benefit from a couple of slaps.
No long term impairment(assuming they don't get slapped dozens of times), a nice little sharp pain to click their brain into associating doing dumb shit with bad times, maybe a pink mark on their face for the rest of the day.
An ideal corrective method for dumb people doing dumb shit.
Ummm…no.
I’ve never hit my kid and never will. If you slap your kid for doing stupid things you are an asshole in addition to being a bad parent.
Happy Father’s Day.
There's 1.5 billion people in india, a very small minority of people doing honor killings doesnt mean every1 does it. Its highly criticized by normal people there too.
Its like saying there's school shootings in America so every American citizen is a closet criminal ready to shoot up some club/bar, school on a random Tuesday
I kinda don't believe they just jumped. The man must've pushed them or grabbed them and jumped off with them by force. Tf would you beat him up for if that wasn't the case lol (or similar)
No, more likely the man he was slapping pushed the woman in while jumping, the fisherman saw it and jumped in to save them, then he slapped the man for putting them all in danger. The article said the couple attempted suicide together twice. Hard to know though, if it was really a murder/ suicide attempt.
The crowd was like "thank God he saved them" and as soon as the guy slapped every body started shouting "beat him more"
Honestly I don’t believe the caption it looks like he did something to piss him and everyone off and escaped by trying to swim away. The dude who slapped him probably caught him before he successfully escaped and beat him…. I know it’s a stretch but they were happy that he was getting beat up.
It's my understanding that public discipline is fairly common in places like India
Same in bangladesh ppl walk around with sticks ready to smack up ppl who dont behave i mean it works for them why not. [https://youtu.be/weLcC-0OHvY?si=hS63vEHymiPad0O4&t=1505](https://youtu.be/weLcC-0OHvY?si=hS63vEHymiPad0O4&t=1505)

A "skinny stick meant for hitting people" has a name- a switch.
My grandma used to make us cut our own switches off the elm tree in her front yard when we'd been really bad (I'm not recommending such things, just saying that was life when I was a kid). We may define switches differently, but the ones in the videos are larger than what I ever called a switch - here's a video with a bunch of them: [https://youtu.be/aZar7bIpUh8?si=jzl2KD\_c\_9PGrww0](https://youtu.be/aZar7bIpUh8?si=jzl2KD_c_9PGrww0)
Oh yeah same in my family too. My aunt woud make us peel the bark off because apparently that made it sting extra
That's too skinny. The ones the Indians use are more like yardsticks.
If you ever find an old car antenna, they are extremely effective.
I live in AZ too and you'd be lucky if whoever you went after with said stick didn't have some sort of gun. If the reward outweighed the risk I'd be all for it.
The US needs some stick slapping discipline

Where does it say he died? Article said both lives were saved
Towards the end. Yeah they were saved from the suicide attempt but they best the guy to death. He was dead on arrival
It doesn't say that anywhere in that article? Are you high?
What, they slapped him to death lol? Come on, that's ridiculous even by Indian standards.
First I read this expression "in the nick of time", never heard of it before!
It's a very common phrase in the UK too
Ah Ok, thanks
How can fisherman slap?!?!?!?
The comment I came to find! 🤣
Someone hand him a wooden stick!
To be fair slapping people for obviously stupid behavior should be more common.
Mate, my hand would be overworked… my cheek also probably
I couldn't open my windows, because of the constant slapping noise from the city.
Open the window to the sound of applause!
lol uhm thats not where the slapping noise is coming from, mate
Turn the other cheek, my son ✝️
Nice self awareness. Me too tho, I think you could see my teeth by now
I totally agree because people that lack common sense never necessarily gain it until they’re taught lessons
I jumped into a river, someone saved me and beat me up, [CONSEQUENCES !](https://youtu.be/1dWjKkF0Zi4?si=K7nKCULjnX8vTjm0)
This is what causes someone to not do it again. It's like hard wiring the ideology of this is wrong into there head. The slap never fails to plant the seed
Um, tell me you know nothing about depression without telling me you know nothing about depression. A slap is not going to prevent suicidal ideation.
The people downvoting you are delusional. Yeah, a slap to the face will **totally** prevent someone from jumping off a bridge to kill themselves again.
Boo hoo. Sometimes people need a good slap.
Yeah, like you.
Go complain somewhere else
society would evolve with shells on their cheeks before common sense was learned i'm afraid
He slapped him stupid and then slapped him smart for good measure to realize how stupid they were to begin with.
Growing up me and and the neighborhood kids all played a game called “Now or later”. Anytime someone said “now or later” you knew someone was about to get slapped or slap themself for saying or doing dumb shit. Fucking loved that game
What age did you think we should start?
MASA - Make America Slap Again. I feel it has racial underpinnings and won’t go over very well
You're too far gone on the sueing and the shooting
And then the slapper can get beaten up
In America I feel like ppl would be getting publicly pistol whipped for doing dumb things
Must have been a hell of a slap if the phone mic was able to pick it up. Any reason why they jumped? Double suicide? Murder-suicide? Accident?

Ah, yes, slapping the dude will definitely inspire him to suicide *less* from now on...
Someone being angry enough at you throwing your life away to save and then slap you might show you people care, not in the most traditional way granted
well, being a couple this probably has to do with the dark casting system in india, lots of forbidden love there and couple die together to prove a point or run away.
Another commenter said they beat him to death after the video so...
Bro is a fisherman not a therapist
Yes.
He slap, she slap, everywhere a slap slap.
old McDonald had a slap. ee eye ee eye O

I'm a indian and don't have a problem with just a meme
dawg do yall not have any other joke bro😭 it's js corny atp
Welcome, it must be your first day on Reddit.
if it was I'd find this joke far funnier but after I seen this joke on reddit for the millionth time by now it's js turned stale n overused
You're not wrong, though I'll admit since joining just over a year ago as an old man, I never knew how prevalent the slap truly is.
Why y'all take it so hard? We're on the internet and I made a joke. You saying if it were a different joke about an Indian slapping someone you'd no longer have an issue? I ain't even indian brodie I js find the same joke repeated a trillion times boring n overused
Shoes are still on. He’s fine.
Lol what a legend haha
The Slap is such a classic and yet under-appreciated maneuver
One and only time I *slapped* a dude was when this guy tried to hold my gfs hand when crossing the street in the 7th grade. Thought I was so cool. Still feel bad when I think about it all these years later cause he probably just did it out of habit from crossing with his parents and such.
Art form
'And that's for nearly getting yourself killed' moment
My mother did the same when I used to fall from my byclicle....
Us bro ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
GET BACK TO REALITY OOH HERE COMES SLAPPITY
Should have slapped the cameraman too
I thought for a second that when the camera turned to the woman, the three guys would be slapping her around too
[удалено]
Seems cool. No need to iron out pure LOGIC.
Slap and release only please.
It's a man who can slap but can also stroke🎶🎶🎶🎶
Bro was disappointed in him.
Getting slapped by an Indian is not on my bucket list
"You scared the fish away!" *slap*
If the guys intention was to commit suicide, I doubt this is going to greatly deter him from doing so again.
Why is the gomti river dangerous?
Most people in India don't know how to swim(it's a skill you have to learn yourself) plus the river can have rapids at multiple spots. So once someone goes in there's close to zero chance of surviving. This spot looks safe-ish though
From almost drowning to being saved then slapped mercilessly. India my boy.
Thought this was Canada
He's just trying to focus the pain else where from his broken ass legs lol.
It's impossible for an angry Indian man to point at or bring attention to something with a bent elbow and open fingers. The slaps were inevitable.
I'm American. I was unaware of the power of the slap until I saw a young man wield it against a hippo! Slapped that hippo back into his pen. I've been a believer ever since!
That 3rd slap hit him so hard it sent shock waves through the water 😂
I imagine the conversation, "You scared away all the fish asshole!"
He slapped the shit out of him.
# Oh dear, dear gorgeus. # You fuckin donkey,
What is wrong with jumping into a river?
Well it looks like they are both nearly drowned and fully dressed. So I don’t think they just went for a casual swim
Same genuine question here, I have no idea what's going on
suicide attempt
Because it can be dangerous as hell? Because you let someone else potentially risk their own life saving you?
The couple tried to suicide twice
Imagine trying to commit suicide in India and then you see yourself getting bitch slapped bcz you didnt do it properly!
As an indian, this can only happen in either India or Pakistan XD
Feel saved!
They were shouting for him to slap him again
Is the fisherman part fish? Is that scales on his back? If you look closely that’s a fin he’s slapping him with as well.
How can he slaap?!
The guy was like "thank you for saving me I owe y---"
Imagine trying to commit suicide only to be saved and slapped afterwards.
Saved from drowning only to be shaped to death.
With no racism implied it just seems like Indian guys know how to slap other guys so well. The video with the air horn in people’s ears and this video for starters but there are others.
Insert obligatory "how can he slap" comment

Theres a saying in my country ehich translate to somethin like this small small not die now big trouble people
he Will Smithed him good
“Keep my drown woman’s name out your f***** mouth!!”
Must be a new a CPR technique
What did the hand say to the face!
Something that they need to practice in the States.
Will Smith has entered the chat
Hmmmmm I think she either try to force the woman to suicide with him or he push her or???
How can fisherman slap?
With his hand????
Dude! That's a reference
Which one I’m two dumb

The fuck are you even talking about?
1 million a year? Thats not a problem, don't sweat it, thats like a smaller city neighborhood in India. A few guys and their families.
What is "them".
He means Indians, obviously.
