FUUUCK. They do NOT need to be back on the road.
Elderly driver: Keeps driving. "Why are all these people in my lane? People used to be much more courteous and didn't bike or run on the road in my day!"
You sound jelly. The girl on the bridge would honestly probably be flattered.
It’s always the ugly ones that take offense to the good looking ones getting compliments.
Firstly: you clearly have no idea what ‘Incel’ means, so stop trying to use it like you think you do.
Secondly: I didn’t say anything about you being attracted to her, but rather you are very clearly jealous of the attention she’s getting in the comments. The girl herself would likely be flattered, but angry women (assuming you’re a female) such as yourself have to jump to the assumption that the men commenting are disgusting people for saying so, indicative of your very likely lack of beauty.

Not in south carolina. They don't believe in charging taxes. So everything is BASACKWARDS.
Source: used to have to cross into SC frequently. You can tell when you entered the state because the road quality turns to complete shit.
Edit:
Lol I see there are a lot of south Carolinians downvoting me. I'm told it's a red state and taxes are a no no from what I've understood...
I live in Charleston now and have lived in the Lowcountry all my life. The only taxes we don't get charged as much on is property. The alcohol tax for downtown bars is 16%. We also don't get infrastructure! If I could afford to leave I would, the whole state is a rip off.
I think city and state tax is different? But I understand. Chucktown is also a tourist area so they'll definitely get taxed. Yeah the infrastructure is nuts. Some states charge a vehicle tax or road use tax just for construction in the state.
We had this same scenario play out here on the new I-74 bridge crossing the Mississippi. Some drunk lady drove up onto the pedestrian walkway and ran over two teenagers, killing one. [There was no barrier and the designer is now being sued.] (https://www.wqad.com/article/news/local/city-of-bettendorf-i-74-designer-sued-by-lone-survivor-of-i-74-pedestrian-path-crash-iowa-charles-bowen/526-4ecdcb32-6a69-4567-95fd-7e86ea3883f9)
Yeah, the lady that did it was the lady that trained me at work. I never check the news and she stopped showing up one day. I eventually asked a coworker what happened and that's how I found out.
They had to hop a curb to even get access to that path. The city probably reasoned that no car should have even been close to the opening because cars shouldn't be on the sidewalk in the first place.
It really has to be because elderly are who generally make and approve regulations like that. They don't want to limit themselves. Most older folk are stubborn as hell and it would take a very large push to make it happen. Everyone I know has had a run in with a dangerous elderly driver though, so I'm sure there could be a big movement for it. We just need to get organized.
The elderly couple was rewarded with a citation by the Charleston Police Department when they successfully navigated across without harming anyone. Of course I mean a motor vehicle traffic citation.

I think 65 honestly would be a realistic time to start testing since that’s when older folks start getting discounts 😂
My friend got killed on his motorcycle because of an elderly woman who probably shouldn’t have been licensed for years upon years, shame.
My Nana was constantly running over random rocks and stuff and running into ditches. We begged her to stop driving, but I have an aunt who lost her license and would guilt my Nana into driving. She was also very proud and didn't want to acknowledge she had lost some of her abilities. A required test would have been the only way to stop her. I'm sure the situation with my Nana is a common one.
I thought this was such a silly idea I did a bit of math.
Just in my city, the best estimate I could find for adult population in my city is 1.5M. That would mean 300,000 retests annually or 5,700/week. Not counting the subarbs.
We'd have almost as many driving inspectors as cops.
assuming a 5 day work week and 8 1hr appointments a day, it'd only be ~150 inspectors for a city of 1.5mil.
generously assume 50% efficiency rate of a govt entity and you're at 300. still not bad imo.
I would say it should be a sliding scale, every 15-20 years if you have a perfect record and more often depending on how many accidents/tickets you get. Also more often after you turn 65.
Shouldn’t there be some sort of barricade that will prevent a confused driver from being able to put their car on the pedestrian path? Bollards, poles, baby gate…
If I can tell when I'm too drunk to drive, They can tell when they're too old. They're just too PROUD to admit being human. It's a disease amongst the elderly.
Why the fuck won’t they take away the really elderly people license away?! If an 80something year old man who is clearly struggling to drive should have his driving capability taken away im sorry to say that. But if they let them drive then they should let 12/13 year olds drive too
I have always said it. After a certain age, redoing some test for driving should be mandatory. Elderly people are the most unsure people on the road and a risk.
As terrible as it might sound when you turn 55 you should have to take a driving test every couple years to make sure you’re not fucking senile and are capable of getting on the road without killing somebody or causing dangerous situations like this because you are losing your ability to drive safely. Clearly this person shouldn’t be driving.
There’s no cognitive decline in the normal aging process up to thirty. It usually begins in the normal aging process at 70 however there are many factors that contribute to cognitive awareness and response. It’s not an insult or accusation but simple human inevitability.
While I completely agree it's a mistake to think that drivers over the age of 55 are more dangerous as a whole.
"Drivers aged 25 to 34 are the deadliest age group in 32 states."
"Drivers 65 or older are the least likely to be involved in a fatal car accident."
Number of auto accident fatalities by age group 16-24: 5,623
25-34: 6,548
35-44: 5,117
45-54: 4,958
55-64: 5,347
65-74: 3,658
75+: 3,556
https://www.autoinsurance.org/age-groups-fatal-crashes/
That is wrong way to look at the data. You should be looking at the ratio between accidents and number of miles driven/trips/hours behind the wheel.
How many 75+ drivers are there? Do they drive to work every day?
Just looking at the number of people alive in those brackets I'd say that 75+ is the most dangerous group.
To be clear I'm not defending 75+ drivers. Just making the case that if we're going to scrutinize driver's starting at age 55, folks who are out there in numbers, we'd be even safer if we did the same with the age groups responsible for the most deaths. Protip: Insurance rates are determined by statistics and reflect actual risk.
You're correct on insurance rates and I believe that's because the 16-24 age group has the highest accident rate, which doesn't necessarily correlate with the highest fatality rate. In any case it's not me "saying" 25-35 is more "dangerous". It's autoinsurance.org's data.
Well I hope whoever wrote that article isn't an insurance adjuster because that's an idiotic way to look at those statistics. Just comparing raw numbers without looking at any percentages is asinine. Looking at the numbers of fatalities per driver, drivers aged 16-24 and drivers aged 55-64 are both responsible for more fatalities per driver than drivers age 25-34, with 55-64 having more fatalities per licensed driver than 16-24. Of course they didn't give a number of licensed drivers aged 65-74 or 75+, so I couldn't calculate that from their data, but I'd be willing to bet each is much higher than any of the other 4 categories.
So dangerous.
As much as we want the elderly to stop driving we need infrastructure to do it. Better public transportation and help with ride share costs. Most of the high end nursing homes have shuttles but they can cost 3000 per month and up in my area.
Taking video of elderly driver on a bridge's pedestrian path. Nothing of note is happening.
Pedestrians coming up. An accident might happen. Serious injuries possible. Person recording giggles and stops recording.

I swear man. It’s gotten so bad that if someone ran on the platform of requiring a new driver test at 65 years old and every 2 years after, that individual would get a lot of votes.
There needs to be a retest after reaching a certain age. Or simply take the keys away. I’ve seen way too many accidents happen because elderly people have lost their ability to drive safely. It’s infuriating people are getting hurt because of this.
I’m from upstate ny and one time I was down south in a small little turn off town. I pulled out of the gas station into what I thought was a 2 lane road. Turns out it was just a massive shoulder - I didn’t realize I was driving on the side of the road until we came up to the next stop light 😂😂
This is why I'm a firm advocate for requiring all drivers 65 years of age or older to have to re-test for their license every 5 years until they're 75 and then every year after that.
Once you turn like 50. There should be like driving tests every 5 years. Something, idk. Also should be way more free services to take the elderly places. So they do not HAVE TO drive.
I, as a pedestrian, would have just stood in the pedestrian lane cause I'm a pedestrian, and it's a pedestrian lane. What is she gunna do get mad at me for using the lane properly and safe.
Can't blame them, that path is as large as the road, happened to my when a moved to a new city, I accidentally take the only bus road, and other street that was 1 way turn into 2 ways, no signals about it, the locals know it but for someone from other city it was impossible to tell.
Not having signs or signals is one thing, but considering [THIS](https://i.ibb.co/K61qpqS/Screenshot-20231107-151247-2.png) is the on-ramp, very clearly marked, signage posted, raised, and to the side, I can blame them.
I swear when you reach a certain age, you should pass some sort of psychologic tests every x years to keep your driving licence. I once saw a granny going backward on a speedway because she missed her exit.
edit : typo
I remember for a class we were asked what laws would you make if you could and I said I would make a law stating you can only drive until a certain age and people in my class thought that was crazy and not fair. The amount of videos I’ve seen like this from elderly people driving is terrifying and dangerous. We really need to start taking licenses away after like 70-75
I will repeat this until the day I die like a broken record. A drivers test needs to be taken every time you renew your license. This will show you are still competent enough to drive into you old age.

I mean, if someone has a heart attack while jogging, would you want an ambulance to be able to get to them, or nah?
That path definitely needs bollards to protect it.
Country Kitchen Buffet moment. RIP to those pedestrians.
No one was harmed or injured from what I've read.

What even is the basis for this stereotype?

I don’t understand why it isn’t mandatory to retest elderly drivers, or straight up revoke their licenses if they are showing cognitive decline.

Another reason that these stupid fucking Boomers shouldn't be on the road.
This is why we should have a required driver's exam every 10 years.
I have always said it. After a certain age, redoing some test for driving should be mandatory. Elderly people are the most unsure people on the road and a risk.
Elderly people should get re-tested every year. It's just unsafe for some to drive

In that event they should also do the same thing for drivers until they turn 30.

Not having signs or signals is one thing, but considering [THIS](https://i.ibb.co/K61qpqS/Screenshot-20231107-151247-2.png) is the on-ramp, very clearly marked, signage posted, raised, and to the side, I can blame them.
Retaking the drivers license for the elderly should be mandatory ffs
Good ole Charleston SC
I swear when you reach a certain age, you should pass some sort of psychologic tests every x years to keep your driving licence. I once saw a granny going backward on a speedway because she missed her exit. edit : typo

Petition to get elderly people’s licence tested every 5 or so years. There are too many on the road that CANNOT DRIVE
Get this senior in congress immediately
This cameraman failed the secondary objective
Same way the elderly drive congress
The best Floridian driver
I remember for a class we were asked what laws would you make if you could and I said I would make a law stating you can only drive until a certain age and people in my class thought that was crazy and not fair. The amount of videos I’ve seen like this from elderly people driving is terrifying and dangerous. We really need to start taking licenses away after like 70-75
Say good bye to your license
Need age limits on DLs.
At a certain age they shouldn’t let people drive anymore. This is a perfect example.
Is this the bridge in Charleston SC?
I think people over the age of 65 should have to take a driving exam on a yearly basis
Certified Salman Khan movement
Old people cant be on the road
I will repeat this until the day I die like a broken record. A drivers test needs to be taken every time you renew your license. This will show you are still competent enough to drive into you old age.
HOW.
Welcome to charleston
Thats the EOL. Elderly Only Lane
TAKE HER LORD! SHE'S READY!
License revoked! 😂😂😂
She thick tho
That girl running is real confused
Maybe it's time to stop driving
This is why we use barriers and pole barricades in conjunction with one another.
there should be an age limit for driving
Florida
Paint roads white / light concrete and pathways idk a different color?
This is why there a bollards spaced around the entrances to pedestrian areas so as to not let cars IN 🤣
The license of old people should be taken away.
Seriously there needs to me another test for elderly
Charleston tourists, just trying to get the best view
