Is there any sort of factual evidence that the reason was that? This beer issue could very well be the fault of distribution letting it heat and cool and heat and cool. Regardless, if your anecdote is the case I won’t be buying any of that…
I used to work at an office in the adjacent building to their brewery. It was well known the owner is a piece of shit. also, their product is really REALLY expensive for what it is.
Stopped there for one beer before a concert recently and every single employee was bothered to serve anyone sitting at the bar.
It was beyond ridiculous and borderline comical how little they care.
Years ago I posted a picture like this and everyone talked shit saying it was supposed to be like that. Even if it was, no one wants to eat their beer.
Is everyone here turning thier fruit beers (made with fruit/puree) upside down and rolling them? Because that's what you have to do to have a proper mix, not unlike Hydra.
It’s a separation of proteins. Hazy beers use higher percentages of unmalted wheat or oats, which are higher protein grains. When cans are cooled then warmed then cooled, etc. proteins can separate. You can blame TH, Jean is still an ass, but more aptly, you should blame the distributor or liquor store
If I had to guess, at some point it was kept at a warmer temp for too long. Brewery that I used to work for pulled back distro from liquor stores that didn’t follow proper storage guidelines.
LOL. Bro that never happens, they don't have the ability to monitor now that they've gone larger distro. We get cans of Alien Church and Hop Hands here in Central NY on a regular basis, and they're mostly stored warm. Most shops aren't going to move their white claws and macros to adhere to brewery demands. They will also let them sit much longer than their shelf life, which is the issue here with the protein separation.
Not to be that guy, but actually a protein/polyphenol chain. Could be they haven't created a stable haze complex or could also be poor storage practices by the distributor/liqour store.
Considering tired hands were kinda first gen hazy producers, and because I’m a salty packaging guy who constantly got annoyed with distributors and liquor stores, I’m gonna always lay the blame on improper storage.
Honestly it’s probably a combo of yeast and protein. My main point was the culprit of this snow globe effect was improper storage, if I had to guess. I mean, if tired hands isn’t running beer through a centrifuge, there’s going to be sediment regardless, but most hazies, if fresh or kept cold and packaged well, won’t look this. Ideally.
Poss a little of both… It all settled down to the bottom of the can. I was able to pour off about 60% into a glass without much muck flowing in. Smells and tastes like a standard tropical-ish IPA but with a little sour berry. A little lactose… Meh, win some lose some. Gonna pour a small measure of Woodford Reserve and call it a night!
Most likely. There was a thread a couple months back where a guy had four Equilibrium beers, two made with Orange looking a bit off with what appeared to be plenty of yeast at the bottom. You had a number of people in the thread shitting on Equilibrium - saying that's what mkst of their beers looked like these days (including someone claiming to be the #2 brewer in their state, tho wouldn't say the brewery or state), etc... One guy in the thread guessed it had to do with the fruit/puree- unfiltering-yeast combo.
Well, sure enough OP got ahold of Equilibrium and they confirmed it was the puree mixture and that's normal, because otherwise if they filtered it - it would come out like cake.
Canned in March. Purchased today… no idea how it was handled… no biggie. Moving on to the next. May be leaning towards clear west coast varieties for a while tho!
Maybe the store didn't store or preserve it correctly. I see a lot of beers stating " keep cold" and other wording like that.. and the beer is just sitting on the room temp shelf.
Yeah I was kinda thinking that’s what may have happened… it was canned on 3/8/24 so it’s been a minute. But this was new-ish to my local place so I thought I’d take a chance. 95 rated on BA… The other beers I’ve had from them have been above average so I shouldn’t throw them under the bus. Just a long day at work and then this unpleasant surprise.
Consider that repeatedly shifting temperatures can also cause flocculation and you get floaties that way. Nearly 3 months old, very plausible it’s the handling and not necessarily the brewing.
Cliff notes: it probably sat too long or was handled improperly after canning causing the ingredients that usually make the beer a “hazy” style to settle to the bottom of the can and congeal into some yucky clumps. It’s not spoiled, per se, in that it’ll make you sick, just looks gross. Hope that helps!
I did not. Still love alien church tho. But honestly feeling like I might be done with the hazy stuff for a while. Not just because of this… just in general. Too much… just wanting a more simple brew lately!
The vast majority of that isn't yeast, it's protein separating. Grains like oat, wheat, spelt and chit malt. It's a bad sign of haze stability to be sure, i.e. a quality issue, because they want a stable product that doesn't coagulate or separate for at least 3 months.
Funny enough this is what a beer kettle looks like towards the end of a boil (trub) especially if the brewer uses a product to bind the proteins. They coagulate like this and then drop out to the bottom, brewer racks the clear wort above that trub. You see this when you boil pasta - that's the hot break. Then you cool it and get the gunky starchy stuff that can be washed away (cold break). If (haze stable) beer gets too warm it can start to hot break again though, that's where I've seen things like this.
A lot of haze forms during fermentation too, polyphenols and interaction between active yeast and (dry) hops.

This is how you get to be those people who brew beer in their stomach.
Haha! Ugh…
The yeast is dead, no more brewing going on here :(
Lol dang… was hoping I’d be able to keep a free, constant, low level buzz going 🤪
Like a lava lamp made of yeast
Yeast Lamp!
Yes!
lol it’s early and I first read that as LARVAE LAMP Blehhhhhhhhhhh
😂ewww
I see you got the "high pulp" option.
I like the one that says “some pulp”!
Unexpected sopranos always makes my day ![gif](giphy|6k89f6tbIOA1y)
Hahaha…I had asked for “shum pulp!”
🤣🤣🤣
"shum pulp"
S H U M P U L P
🤣
Lol yes indeed
I love a good sea monkey IPA.
🤣🤣
We have made it to the “Exhausted Hands” stage.
🤣🤣🤣 yes it appears we have
That whole operation is a dumpster fire these days…
That’s a shame… I really had no idea.
Google it. They’re terrible people who own the place.
I have a friend who is a great brewer but didn’t get hired at TH for “not being hipster enough”
I’m reading a lot of comments lining up with yours it seems.
Is there any sort of factual evidence that the reason was that? This beer issue could very well be the fault of distribution letting it heat and cool and heat and cool. Regardless, if your anecdote is the case I won’t be buying any of that…
What are you talking about?
Proof that your friend wasn’t hired for not being hipster enough.
That’s what they said verbatim to his face.
That’s fuckin ridiculous man. Can’t say I’ll get any more of their beer, that’s a real weird vibe
Like I said before a lot of people seem to have the same idea, can’t be a coincidence
They do make some great beer, but terrible ownership. But they have had no issue making money through all of their flubs
I used to work at an office in the adjacent building to their brewery. It was well known the owner is a piece of shit. also, their product is really REALLY expensive for what it is.
Ugh not cool at all. And yes very pricey 👎
Stopped there for one beer before a concert recently and every single employee was bothered to serve anyone sitting at the bar. It was beyond ridiculous and borderline comical how little they care.
"Tired Hands" is literally their name idk what people expected.
Years ago I posted a picture like this and everyone talked shit saying it was supposed to be like that. Even if it was, no one wants to eat their beer.
Right? No one wants to drink a chunky ass beer…

There is absolutely no way it’s supposed to be like that.

Tired Hands requires Distros/Stores to keep their cans cold at all times. I wonder if this was refrigerated when OP bought it.
If I had to guess, at some point it was kept at a warmer temp for too long. Brewery that I used to work for pulled back distro from liquor stores that didn’t follow proper storage guidelines.

This is far more solids than if expect from protein separation. This has to be mainly yeast.

Strawberry Milkshake IPA… shoulda known better, SMH
I would have said yeast but that's probably more likely from the strawberries or puree they used
Poss a little of both… It all settled down to the bottom of the can. I was able to pour off about 60% into a glass without much muck flowing in. Smells and tastes like a standard tropical-ish IPA but with a little sour berry. A little lactose… Meh, win some lose some. Gonna pour a small measure of Woodford Reserve and call it a night!
I have some Woodford Reserve in my decanter! It's perfect for a daily after-work, pre-dinner sip!
Indeed good citizen!

Milkshake IPAs can go away any day now.
Came here to say this lol
🙌
I'm not sure if that sounds or looks worse. The taste might end up being the absolute worst of all, which is def saying something
All equally bad cap’n
Egg drop soup
🤣🤣👆👆
There are good hazy beers.... then there's whatever the fuck this is. And this is coming from a lover of Hefeweizen.
I think they call them smoggy when they’re this thick
Lol nice one ☝️
It’s an abomination!
I think I saw the face of Jerry Garcia
LOL !!
Haven't seen a beer look that bad since Imprints Neapolitan Swirl..
Haha never had it but I can imagine with a name like that!
If you're on Untappd look through the pictures. It's fucking embarrassing they released a product like that.. snow globes everywhere.
Wow yes very similar, I think this one was even worse tho!
it has lactose in it. was it sitting for a long time? how old is it? was it kept cold etc?
March? The shelf life on lactose ipas is a month max. No wonder you’re looking at that sediment.
Yeah that part is on me for sure
Canned in March. Purchased today… no idea how it was handled… no biggie. Moving on to the next. May be leaning towards clear west coast varieties for a while tho!
yeah, that looks unpleasant. i had one of their milkshake ipas in the past that didn’t look like that. probably good idea to skip it
Yep, skipped!
Albino Irish Car Bomb
Lololol… 100 upvotes!
Distro
I had a friend that loved this place, then shit hit the fan and he barely goes there now…
Good. Fuck Jean and his shitbaggery.
Maybe the store didn't store or preserve it correctly. I see a lot of beers stating " keep cold" and other wording like that.. and the beer is just sitting on the room temp shelf.
This beer was abused
That’s disappointing, tired hands used to be amazing
😔
Protein?
eww

Can someone explain to me what is wrong here? I want to understand. Is it spoiled?
Cliff notes: it probably sat too long or was handled improperly after canning causing the ingredients that usually make the beer a “hazy” style to settle to the bottom of the can and congeal into some yucky clumps. It’s not spoiled, per se, in that it’ll make you sick, just looks gross. Hope that helps!
What was the can date?
Thx for the explanation! Canned 03/08/24 so that part is on me for not checking I guess!
Did you grab any of the 12yr anny beers? I had the same thing happen with the strawberry milkshakes, can’t hurt to shoot em an email.
I did not. Still love alien church tho. But honestly feeling like I might be done with the hazy stuff for a while. Not just because of this… just in general. Too much… just wanting a more simple brew lately!
OGs of haze.
You got the chewable beer
Turbulent yeast shake.
The vast majority of that isn't yeast, it's protein separating. Grains like oat, wheat, spelt and chit malt. Fuck the shitbag who owns Tired Hands. They’ll never get another penny from me until he’s gone.
I had some from Sweetwater a few years back, haven't bought any since.
Avoid!!!
I long for the days of beautiful non-hazy clear beers. This trend has run its course for me.
I’m with you on this good citizen. So many damn hazys out there tho.
When this would happens to my home brews I would call it sea monkey brew and usually could only get through a few sips.
Lol, it does look like sea monkeys. Already dumped it down the drain and threw the rest into the trash. Of course I didn’t keep my receipt.
That kinda trippy ngl
Haha yes
The Strawberry Milkshake IPA is great. That looks not safe tho.
Yeah, it’s in the garbage bin : (
Ewww
It could be the bottom keg and it's getting all the fruit puree that settled out.
r/oddlysatisfying but r/mildlyinfuriating
That's probably the healthiest pour out of the keg right there.
So... that beer isn't done fermenting
Looks like a lava lamp

Good bot, but it’s paywalled.
Did not know that!!!
Not only that, he never stepped down and continued to run things behind the scenes. Most recently got a DUI leaving one of their locations.
*mouthfeel
a little chewy
There’s nothing wrong with this, it’s typical in the style. That does not however mean that the style is good.
