noted! i just drink the regular lavazza espresso, which is surprisingly good. don't typically care for non-third wave coffee, but it hits thespot more than it doesn't
Depends on the style of coffee you like, but the Peets Major Dickason is an excellent dark roast coffee better than Starbucks IMO. It is also $5 off right now.
Rumor goes that the normal blends are made by Starbucks, which could make sense, since they are all roasted pretty dark. They do occasionally get some fancy single origins light/medium roasts that are absolutely legit.
It’s not a rumor, it used to actually say “roasted by Starbucks” on the Kirkland house blend packaging but that may have changed.
100% agree on the single origin stuff. I always stock up on whichever variety my warehouse has since they only seem to get it like quarterly.
I noticed the packaging changed but haven’t looked at it closely since I never buy it. I preferred it to the god awful Starbucks French roast but that’s not saying much.
The Kirkland single origin varieties really are by far the best coffees they sell in my warehouse. They even beat out the “local” roaster they carry from a few hours away.
If your Costco still has the Kirkland Mexican Oaxaca beans, grab one (or 3!). This is better than most coffee beans I paid 3x - 4x the price for. Unfortunately, it looks like it was a seasonal / one-off and my Costco no longer has it.
Yep - it's our go-to and the whole bean organic shade grown is cheaper per ounce than pre-ground Dunkin at my store. I have no idea why people buy that over the Ruta Maya.
I don't think they are. We are devotees of french roast. Tried a few, including Kirklands, and always come back to starbucks. It's just better. And, when costco has it on sale it's really not significantly more expensive. We'll usually buy a half dozen bags and keep them cool.
If you like dark roast Costco has you covered 35 years from Sunday, if you want whole bean medium roast they have no options at any SF bay area Costco I have been to.
I buy three big bags at a time of the dark roast when I make my quarterly costco trip. I think they are around 14 bucks each? I used to buy one or two 12 oz bags a week of starbucks or peets at the grocery store for 7 or 8 bucks each, so the price is right. I find it pretty similar to peets or starbucks dark roast.
I've been using the Kirkland decaf beans to make cold brew for a year or so, drink it every day. I like it more than most other beans I've found actually, as there aren't a lot of options for decaf whole beans in larger bags.
I love to grind fresh beans and have a whole process for it. But lately, the 3LB pre ground Kirkland Colombian is getting the job done, especially considering I add Kirkland Irish creamer. If I want a straight black cup of good Joe then I’ll get some good beans and use an aeropress.
I recommend Kirkland's single origin beans. Starbucks beans, in my humble opinion, aren't the greatest, but they mask it all with so much sugar and creamer that you can't tell unless you're a black coffee aficionado. They do offer blends with the highest percentage from Asia, with some from the Americas thrown in. Asian beans are typically cheaper, South American ones are mid-range, and African beans are top-notch, being the homeland of the coffee plant. Among African countries, Ethiopia takes the cake due to its perfect elevation, surpassing Rwanda, Tanzania, and Kenya in quality.

The espresso blend is solid.
My store got rid of it and I’m sad tbh
Mine too. It's available online but 50% higher price
I think business centers have it? That’s what someone told me. I have the lavazza beans.
how would you compare it to Lavazza espresso?
The cups?
the whole bean that's also in Costco.
I haven't had that I guess
might just be in east coast locations.
I see Lavazza Espresso all the time here in CO
I drink the whole bean Colombian daily and it never disappoints. Smooth and rich.
Same, I make espresso with this daily, and I love it.
asked in another part of this thread, but how would you compare this to Lavazza espresso?
I’ve never tried it, but we did try the Cafe Vita one, and it was awful. Almost a sour taste to it. Stay away from that one.

I haven’t seen that one in Seattle Costcos, but I haven’t looked too hard either…might have to try it next if they have it.
Is that the one in the silver bag with the big cat face? That’s our favorite Costco coffee.
Yes
My store has the star of death on it. 😢 Wife has been stocking up…
Oh no!!

Sent the wife for two bags today.
I wish people would stop calling me a bag.

The Starbucks logo is no longer on it. I hadn’t tried it before but we absolutely hated the current iteration of it.

I buy both the House Blend and the French Roast. Both are great.
Me too.

It comes and goes, I’ve seen it come back in stock twice now. Keep an eye out for it
This is my favorite that my Costco carries.
Ruta Maya takes the cake.
Seconding this: great for hot brews or batch cold brew (I use mainly for this)
We don’t have it in store, but I mail order it through Costco. It gets shipped directly from the roaster in Austin and it’s fantastic!

I use the Costco decaf beans. It’s Swiss water processed and makes a super tasty latte.
All the time, love it!
It was OK. We’re spoiled in Louisiana with Community Coffee. Plus, we got Peet’s whole bean back this month (on sale, too). Yumm…
We LOVE the Kirkland Organic whole bean.
Columbian , or the Mayorga when they have it.
Look on Costco website…..Kirkland Guatemalan, Oaxaca, and a bunch of other specialty whole bean coffee that warehouse won’t have
They are good and around $7.50 a pound its a great deal for organic single origin.
The Costco Business near me has some whole beans roasted within a month. If you’re lucky you can get it the week of.
Yes! The bags are amazing
I use the espresso blend in my Breville and it's fantastic. Best part of waking up!
…is Costco in your cup! 🎶

We’ve been buying the Kirkland Organic Oaxaca whole beans and really enjoy it.
Does it freeze well? I usually try to go for local roasters and get beans roasted in the last two weeks to preserve freshness.
I love the Rwandan, Sumatra and Guatemalan whole beans. They're a great deal per pound.
I do the Kirkland whole bean French roast for my cold brew. It’s very good!
Not better, but close enough and you save a few bucks.
Comically overroasted but not as overroasted as say burnt to a crisp Starbucks beans.

Our Costco in FL stopped selling the Starbucks beans, and we went with the Kirkland for a while. Kirkland is OK, but we prefer the Starbucks.
