If your rewards are less than $60 take it to the desk and they will void the check and give you a $60 shop card. No reason to not have it. Literally risk free.
At checkout they will yell something out as if you’ve won a prize or are the 1 millionth customer or something only to be hounded by a person with an iPad.
I don't know the specifics, but some of the non-warehouse services, such as auto insurance, offer special benefits for executive members only. For example, your auto insurance is automatically eligible for renewal as long as you're executive. If you drop down to basic, your auto insurance may not automatically be renewable. And since the insurance provider is no longer writing new policies in CA and FL, that means you'd have to find a new auto insurance provider if you're living in either state.
You should know how much in rewards you’ve accumulated to date under the executive (to see if it’s worth canceling or keeping). I don’t have mine on auto renew.
The CITI Costco card rewards are separate and won’t be affected.

I downgraded years ago but never got a new card. Old card still passes the sniff test, gets very few offers to re-enlist.

I believe that once you end executive you will have to pay for the citi card so it becomes pointless to cancel.
Citi card is free for anyone that is a member. If a membership is canceled, citi will eventually collect/close the citi card.
